The Cores I am talking about are the asteroid core and the comet core. By themselves, they are very good core gear, but with the right pieces added to them they become very strong. The asteroid core has 3 recipes.
Troop Defense +27.7%
Strategic Defense +25.1%
Enemy Attack Debuff +10.8%
Troop Defense +27.7%
Strategic Defense +25.1%
Strategic Enemy Attack Debuff +9.3%
The second Core you can craft with a recipe and get additional boosts are comet cores.
Troop Defense +27.7%
Strategic Defense +25.1%
Troop Health +11%
Troop Defense +28%
Strategic Defense +25%
Strategic Health +9%
There are also certain pieces you can add to any core and get extra bonuses, so when you are in the core crafting tab, just start tinkering with combos of pieces and see what you can come up with. This is basic knowledge for those that have been playing for a long time, but for those that are new to the game or new to core, I hope this helps.

Let me know in the comments what else you want to know about core gear and I'll answer them.
