Destiny: Mobile Companion App Guide

Mobile companion apps seem to be all the rage at the moment, but with some disappointment over the performance of the GTA V and Battlefield versions its not hard to see why some gamers are simply not convinced. Bungie, the creators of the new Destiny game have released their own companion app and comparisons to the Battlefield 4 version have arisen due to its similarities. For many gamers the idea of a mobile companion app has already been tarnished but for those that are open to change and new experiences, let's just get one thing out in the open from the start… this definitely seems to be better than the BF4 application.

The app itself is so efficient that it's likely to increase your playing time. Instead of worrying about using your precious console time customising your character’s appearance and weapon loadouts, the Destiny companion app has these features built in so you can go straight to the action.

Downloading the app itself is simple and once you have seen it, the quality of its visuals will be the first aspect to impress. The app itself is packed with interactive features, you can take your 3D generated character that's rendered identical to the one you use during gameplay and change it’s look and it’s entire arsenal, weapons, loadout, armor, items and all. This development means you can now be anywhere in the world (with mobile signal) as far away from your console as you can imagine or even just at the sweetshop customising your guardian and it’s loadout from top to bottom. Or you can use it like we do and just show off your skill level to your fellow gamers and fill them with jealousy.

There are so many hidden rare and exotic items, rewards and collectibles to unlock throughout this game that serious game playing time is being wasted when going through your well-earned inventory trying to decide your best outfit and weapon. So why not do these tasks all through your phone instead? It can take several minutes to read through upgrades and stats to figure out the best combination for your Guardian. Handling this on second screen integration will be the future.

The app also has a feature called Grimoires, which showcases all of the grimoire cards you’ve collected during your adventure. This feature is interesting because the cards give detail about strengths and weaknesses of weapons, items and enemies in the game so without unlocking certain items for your inventory you may miss out on some precious information that will help you along on your journey.
Its speculated that the Grimoires are the destiny universes version of memoirs, which are historical accounts or biographies written from personal knowledge. That is exactly what you get when unlocking new weapons or facing new enemies.

The app itself useful with keeping track of game progress and also figuring out what unlocks you have compared to the ones you don't. The stats show how many games you've played, how many kills you’ve made and the amount of time you've been playing all of which can be accessed at will even in the middle of the crucible. Another feature is game history where key events are logged from each mission. This gives the player a long list of bragging rights (we can finally find out who’s the destiny headshot champion!)

Using the app instead of wasting time before the game to set myself up is such a bonus, especially in timed events such as the Iron Banner event, which returns today, the 25th of July. It will give us time to think about how we will play and what new strategies we can make use of if needed without necessarily losing some of the two hour limited gameplay.

As the full game’s features are released you will begin to understand the game’s story and history more as this application is pretty much a record of your entire experience in destiny’s universe. As far as we can tell the only thing that's missing so far is a leaderboard but we imagine once the game is released in its final full version that will be included.

The Destiny Companion App release date has already passed on July 22nd so what on earth are you doing wasting time? The app is available in the Apple Store and in Google Play Store downloads have gone past 100,000 already unfortunately there's no word from window's and their store at the moment... Sorry Guardians!
