Destiny Beta: Tower Walkthrough and Vendor Guide

After playing the Destiny Beta for a while two things become apparent very fast. Number one is that the game is very fun and the possibilities inside it are endless. There is even a rumor of one Reddit user named "mikeyyates" getting a random group of users to play a game of duck duck goose. The second thing that becomes apparent is that understanding the tower is crucial to any realistic enjoyment of the games features so without further ado we’d like to welcome you to the Destiny Beta Tower Walkthrough and Merchant Guide.

The tower itself is full of vendors but they are spread out across the map. It’s often a bit difficult to remember who sells what and where at a whim but with this guide you can be sure never to get your Cryptarch mixed up with your Postmaster. There are four areas in the Tower, Traveller’s walk (Hall of Guardians), Tower north, Tower hangar and the Tower watch. Since you spawn in the tower watch area it will be best for us to start there.

Tower Watch Vendors

Bounty Tracker

The bounty tracker vendor allows you to take up contracts in a similar fashion to the popular call of duty franchise. Completing these tasks on the side will get you additional rewards so it’s a good idea to take them on before missions.

Cryptarch

This shady character is a Crypto-Archeologist, meaning he can decode the past and make new discoveries. The practical use for this is when you come across weapons or items that are encrypted and thus unusable. For a fee the cryptarch will unlock these for you allowing you to add them to your arsenal.

Gunsmith

The gunsmith, every good MMO has one. This is where you buy all manner of weaponry ranging from rifles to hand cannons and rifles all the way to machine guns and rocket launchers. The guns themselves have class requirements as well as level requirements so be sure to check if your guardian can actually use a weapon before you trade all your hard earned grimoire for it.

Postmaster

This is the destiny universes version of a post office. You can leave messages and items for other guardians to pickup when they get back to the tower here. The postmaster also allows you to collect any loot dropped by the enemies you’ve encountered that you may have overlooked or failed to collect. It’s also worth noting that the postmaster can provide items that other guardians may have collected in your missions.

Special Orders

This vendor sells exotic and rare items from the world of destiny. It seems to have no items available yet in the beta but who knows? Maybe some people have had different experiences.

Tower North Vendors

Guardian Outfitter

This trendy character is an artist who sells emblems and shaders to help with further customization of your guardian. Shaders are usually locked until level 20 but it is rumored that some with lower level requirements can be found in the beta.

New Monarchy

The new monarchy will offer you items such as new emblems and armor for your performances in the Crucible arenas PVP modes.

Speaker

This merchant sells unique and exotic armor for your guardian as well as rare emblems that are based on the signs of the traveller. It is said that these items are for the Guardians who “explore the Light’s mysteries”.

Traveller’s Walk (Hall of Guardians)

Crucible Handler

The Handler guards the entrance to the crucible and equips you for battle in the arena. This is where you need to go to get access to the crucible.

Crucible Quartermaster

This merchant can help your guardian to compete more effectively in the crucible. This is where you come to buy weapons for the crucible or aesthetic upgrades for your guardian’s vehicles.

Vanguards

These three impressively dressed characters are the leaders of each guardian class. They are here to help guide new guardians and also offer high level armor and some emblems too.

Tower Hangar

Dead Orbit

The dead orbit faction recruiter offers customized crucible weapons, armor and emblems. They also recruit guardians to join their cause and battle against both the new monarchy and the future war cults.

Future War Cult

This war cult aims to arm and advise members of their cult which you can join here. They offer cult specific weapons and emblems like the other factions but surprisingly not armor.

Shipwright

The shipwright is the place to buy your vehicles. He sells both spaceships and shrikes, which are futuristic bikes. You can also customize your ships appearance here, which will make your cut scenes and loading scenes different as well as buying faster and stronger shrikes.

Vanguard Quartermaster

This guy provides high level weapons and vehicles for Level 20 guardians, which is the level when guardians become vanguard themselves. Although you cant reach this level in the beta this is a good thing to know for when you get the full destiny game released on the 9th of September.
