How Android Users can Record

If you have an Android Device, you are in luck! It's a fairly simple process and we have found four options that should work for most people.

1. AZ Screen Recorder

For those that have at least Lollipop 5.0.

lollipop 5.0

What you need:

  • Any Android device with at least Lollipop 5.0.
  • The Free App, AZ Screen Recorder.

If you fit into this category, you're in luck!  This method does not involve jailbreaking your phone and the app required is free!  Also the process is so simple; download the app, open it, and begin recording.

2. Lollipop Screen Recorder

Another More Basic Option.

If you are looking for a more simplistic method, then look no further than the bare bones Lollipop Screen Recorder. Like AZ Screen Recorder, all you need is:

  • Any Android device with at least Lollipop 5.0
  • The Free App, Lollipop Screen Recorder.

Once downloaded, you can start recording by pressing the shutter button. Can't beat that simplicity! However, you cannot control the recorded resolution, so if want a bigger aspect ratio, look elsewhere.

Rec

For those with an older operating system; involves jailbreaking.

What you need:

  • A jailbroken device that is running on Android 4.4 KitKat. (If you want to root your phone here is the link).
  • The Free App Rec.

Once you have downloaded Rec. you can run the app in the background while you game for up to an hour.  Unfortunately, it does not record system sound.  After you are done, upload your videos to a YouTube with a voice over audio track for commentary. That's it!

Recordable

For those with an older operating system; no jailbreaking.

What you need:

  • Any Android device with at least Gingerbread 2.3.
  • The $6.99 App, Recordable.

Just like Rec., Recordable will run in the background while you are gaming, but sadly, it does not record system sounds either. Fortunately, the video quality is awesome.

How iPhone Users Can Record

If you have an iPhone, it gets a little trickier, but not impossible to record your screen!

QuickTime App

The free way for those with a Mac with Yosemite or higher and a device with a lightning connector.

What you need:

  • A Mac with OS X Yosemite or higher
  • An Apple device with a lightning connector.

To begin, connect your device to your computer. Next, open up the QuickTime app and go File -> New Movie Recording or press Command-Option-N.

When the program opens up, the webcam will engage; don't worry you can easily switch the source of the recording by clicking the small drop down menu next to the record button and clicking on your apple device.

If you do not see your device, make sure it is unlocked.

When you are ready, hit the record button! When you are done, make sure you save the new file.

Reflector 2

The way for those that have an older Mac or a PC, and have $14.99 to invest.

What you need:

  • The Desktop application, Reflector 2
    • It has a Free 7-day trial!

Once you purchase the app, you'll need to turn on Airplay on your iPhone running at least iOS6. It should appear when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen if you have properly installed Reflector 2. If you have problems doing this check out this link from the Reflector blog. Next you will need to make a screen recording from your Mac or PC.  Any of the following free applications will work with both types of computers:

  • QuickTime Player
  • Jing
  • Screener

That's it!  You can now publish your fresh recording or edit it to your liking.
