Intro from Navi: I just want to preface this article by saying that Prince Todd is a BOSS for being the first one to discover these Max Set Bonuses. Get stoked because this article will single-handedly remove all your doubts on whether your Set Bonus is good or not.
Ever since the Set Bonus Tree people have been asking for the max special set bonus ranges you can get with each set of Cores. So now I decided I was just going to test them to try and find a pattern. After spending a lot of time and Resources, I have found the maximum ranges for each set of cores.
I first decided to cycle through a lot of sets and write down all the different outcomes that I got to see if there was any consistent part of the formula (Since this is a math game in some aspect). The one thing I noticed was that I would get duplicate values but with different abilities i.e Troop Attack swapped with Health Bonus but the Set 7 Bonus remained at 628.26% (Odin). After playing around with it long enough and using the information the Set Tree Research page gives us (which isn’t much) I finally figured out that answer.
For set bonus 5, the first numbers are the base bonus and it maxes out at 25%. The second number is the Extra Bonus and is a multiple of that Base Bonus. So once I had that I just needed to figure out the multiple to get the maximum range.
I tested it first on my Horseman Set. As you can see my base amount is 16.61% and the Extra Bonus is 233.39% and when I reset it my Base amount rose to 17.65% and my Extra Bonus rose to 247.97%. I then divided 233.39 by 16.61 to get a multiple of 14.05. I checked my work many times and every time the multiple came back 14.05.
After figuring out the Base 5 multiple I went on the test the set 7 since it is always the highest Extra Bonus. After doing the same tests on the Horseman set it was also 14.05. Since we know from our Set Bonus research page that the maximum special set bonus is 100%, the highest bonus you can get with Horseman is 1405%. While 1405% is the maximum range, and I have gotten close, you will probably never get 100% unless you get extremely lucky. From what I've seen getting about 50-60% of the max bonus is very high, any higher than that and it will be EXTREMELY rare to get.
Warning: Set Bonuses that are more attractive are hard to get. For example, the hardest bonus for the Four Horsemen set is Troop Attack. Other possible bonuses in the 4h are easier to roll higher percents on.
Further Clarification: According to the math of this theory, the multiples are correct. Although, from our experience it's much harder to get a Set Bonus higher than 60% of the maximum. For example, with the 4h set, the highest Troop Attack we've seen in the live game is 875.2%, which 62% of the theoretical maximum. We do have record of a 1,130% Troop Attack but the screenshot is from BETA. In BETA there may be a higher likelihood of getting a Set Bonus higher than 60% but we don't know for sure yet.
But now that we know the maximum range we can evaluate the bonuses better and make better decisions on if we should reset them or keep them. I also noticed a pattern with the probability of getting a high set 7 bonus was harder and harder to achieve with the Core Sets that have the highest multiple and also that the highly coveted Troop Attack bonus had the lowest probability to get close to the max. (a 1200% Defense Debuff on Horseman set 7 is way much easier to get than a 1200% Troop Attack set bonus). So with that said here are the maximum set 5 and set 7 bonuses for all of the Core Sets:
Best of luck with your resets. Next time we will look at how the special set bonuses and the regular core sets interact and which of them are the best.
