The Wolf Among Us is a mobile game, which is readily available to download on smartphones and tablets running on IOS 6 or above. It is developed by Telltale Games and was initially released October 11, 2013. It is rated 17 plus, this is due to a number of reasons including scenes of violence, drug use and nudity. The game is entirely free to download and play but does feature some in-app purchases, this is what is known as ‘freemium’. The in-app purchases range from £3.99 to £10.99 and are completely optional as to whether or not you choose to buy them. The games is split into 5 sequences, the first 4 being free to play, the fifth sequence is available via in-app purchase so it seems the user will find themselves spending real currency in order to play the final sequence. You can get The Wolf Among Us from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
The game is based on the award winning Fables comic books. The aim is to investigate murders which have taken place in Fabletown as the character of Bigby- The big bad wolf. Each scenario will bring the gamer to a new area, where they will be faced to speak with others and make decisions on how Bigby reacts, collect many items and occasionally face a quick time sequence involving fights and chases.
Getting started is relatively easy and straight forward. Once the user has waited for the game to download it is then ready to play. First of all the user must select which scene they would like to play from 1 to 5, each scene must be completed in order to unlock the next.

I have been unable to find any cheats during my time spent playing The Wolf Among Us, as it is a game series influenced by the users decisions and actions I do not think you can physically cheat this game.
My main tip however is just to think carefully about each and every decision made during the game, as the way you act will determine how others respond to you – and even the smallest choice can have the biggest affect on the game in the long run, it really is all down to the choices of the player!
The Wolf Among Us is an adventure game, where the user becomes in control of the character Bigby the wolf and actions and choices made by the user throughout the game will affect how the story plans out and influence many future events, including future scenes. These choices include investigating a murder scene and deciding which culprit to chase and which to allow to run free. All choices made by the user are recorded by Telltale and after each series they are able to view statistics and compare their choices with other users.
I found playing this game to be an immersive experience for me the story is engaging and made me want to continue playing in order to discover what was going to happen next. I liked how I became the character and made my own choices throughout the game leading to the affects of future events.
I think that the interfaces within The Wolf Among Us have been designed very well, all the buttons are placed evenly apart and choices can easily be selected. The developers of The Wolf Among Us have done a great job of achieving this and I cannot really fault them for this.
The artwork within this game really is beautiful, it has been well designed to suit the theme of a 1980’s comic book, even the colours play an important part in this. As this game does have a rating of 17 plus it definitely has been designed to suit adults rather than children and I think they have done this very well.
I was extremely pleased by the amount of advertisements that I came across – there were none, whatsoever. It was extremely satisfying, and I am so glad that the developers of The Wolf Among Us have chosen not to include any third party advertisements. I think that the developers have made a fantastic decision here – this is something that can be greatly appreciated by the user and it gives such a lovely user experience in general to not be distracted by annoying banners and popups. My only real complaint when playing this game are the freezes and lagging I experienced on my device which I made sure was compatible so I see no reason for this to happen. I believe this may be down to such good graphics however it did slightly ruin the experience having to wait for the game to correspond.
Ratings
Artwork: I am able to give the artwork a score of 9/10, the graphics are beautiful they really suit the theme which is based on the 1980’s comic books. The characters are all designed fantastically and are all highly recognisable from the fables comic book series which the whole game has been based on. The bold colours used play an important part in suiting the style too I think it has all been designed very well with careful planning. The only reason I cannot give a 10/10 for artwork due to a lot of lagging and freezing, also I felt the lip syncing may need a little bit of work.
Music & SFX: Whether it is a quick time battle or an important conversation with another character the sounds really set the scene and make the game feel very realistic therefor I will score the game a 9/10 for this. The music is mild and not too repetitive it suits the game perfectly. I think that music and sound effects play an important part in the overall enjoyment of a game and the developers have definitely done a great job in this department. My only slight complaint is that sometimes when the characters are talking their lips move at the wrong time so feel there is slight room for improvement here.
Story & Originality I am going to give The Wolf Among Us a 7/10 for story and originality. The story is great and engaging however I have come across other games of a similar style in the past therefor it is not particularly original. This being said it is unique in the way that every action the user makes changes the game and future events so even when two players are playing the same game they will both have very different consequences to their individual actions, I think that the developers of the game have made a fantastic choice by doing this. Also I feel there could be more of a deeper introduction at the beginning of the game.
General Gameplay: I am going to give the game an 8/10 for this, as much as I enjoyed playing this game I found it highly annoying when my device kept freezing. Apart from this it was an enjoyable experience I liked the comic 1980’s theme and how the music tied in with it all. It was great how even the smallest of my actions altered the whole of the game it made it very unique and fun to play. I really enjoyed recognising well known characters too it was great to see them all in the game and how they had been created differently by the developers.
Addictiveness: This is another strong point and I am able to score The Wolf Among Us a 9/10 for addictiveness as I felt that playing this game was a very immersive experience it made me feel involved and I enjoyed how my actions and decisions alter how the game will plan out, it made me want to carry on to discover what would happen next and unlock the next scenes. I found myself playing for longer periods of time than I had originally planned to which of course always indicates a high level of addictiveness in a game.
Overall, I give The Wolf Among Us an 8/10.
