Clumsy Bird Review

When you first start playing Clumsy Bird, you will see a short story about why you are actually flying through trees. An evil dragon stole your eggs from your nest and you want to chase him to get them back. The graphics of Clumsy Bird are cartoonish and fit the whole gameplay. The SFX used are also fitting although I would have wanted a soundtrack during gameplay. That could have spiced things up a little bit by giving you chills while you flap trough trees. It is also nice that you are able to fly with different birds and if you want to and pimp up your bird with items which you can buy in the in-game store.

What bothered me the most about Clumsy Bird is that it is just a copied game from the original Flappy Bird. Of course Clumsy Bird has different graphics and more add-ons but the fact that the game mechanics, the gameplay and even the controls are the same, is just a shame.

Another negative aspect was the fact that you are faced with an advertisement right when you start up your game. The advertisement loads up before the game itself which is very annoying. You can click the advertisement away by clicking on the X in the corner, but it seems like this has been done on purpose so that people click on the ad on accident which generates an income for the game developers. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about free-to-play games having advertisements in their game, as long as it is not obstructive to your gameplay.

Artwork: I give Clumsy Bird a 7/10 for its artwork. I must admit, the artwork itself is pretty decent in Clumsy Bird. The trees, the background and even the bird itself are pretty detailed and nicely animated. The colors that are used are light and the game is perfect for kids and adults alike. There is even an in-game store where you can suit up your bird. The items in the in-game store are of a wide variety and are detailed nicely.

Music & SFX: I give Clumsy Bird a 6/10 for its music and SFX. The soundtrack used during the main menu in the game is not all that spectacular but it adds a nice touch to the game. There are not many sound effects other than the menu tap SFX, the bird flapping around SFX, going through the tree trunk SFX and of course the crashing and dying against a tree trunk SFX. It would have been nice if there was a nice soundtrack during your actually gameplay.

Story & Originality: I give Clumsy Bird a 3/10 for its story and originality. Clumsy Bird definitely does not deserve much points for its story and originality, in fact it only gets a few points from me because there is a tiny story about a dragon stealing your eggs from your nest and you chase him to get your eggs back. The game idea and mechanics are a total rip-off from the once popular game Flappy Bird. There are dozens of games like this on the Google Play Store.

General Gameplay: I give Clumsy Bird a 7/10 for general gameplay. The gameplay itself is pretty straight forward and it is clear what you have to do. You only have one objective which is to go through as many trees as possible. While the game idea is a rip-off from other games, it does not take away that the game is well build.

Addictiveness: I give Clumsy Bird a 7/10 for addictiveness. While the total download count suggests otherwise, I cannot see why or how someone can get addicted to Clumsy Bird. It is a nice time killer for when you are in the waiting room or when you are traveling on the bus, but it actually does not have a story or other objectives other than to fly through trees with your bird and getting as high of a score as possible.

All things considered, I give Clumsy Bird a 6/10.
