The developers from Kongregate are back yet again with another award-winning app, available for Android and iOS, Game of Thrones Ascent. Kongregate has managed to carve an impressive gaming experience from the original, expansive epic series, A Song of Ice and Fire; an effort which was overseen and approved by the man-with-the-plan himself, George R. R. Martin. Hardcore fans need not fear, as Game of Thrones Ascent doesn’t change the original story, but rather takes you down a winding, canonical, path that leads straight into the heart of Westeros, thrusting you into the story that lies within the land. Not only will this game excite the inner geek; Game of Thrones Ascent will force you to think through every move you make, exactly as if you were living among the web of relations, deceit, and secrets of Westeros.
As you start the game, you are immediately given choices on how to gain your first toeholds of power. You’ll be tasked missions by the King’s Hand, Lord Arryn, who will grant you a lordship if you complete the quests given to you; this will be the beginning of your great legacy. When you gain your lordship, you’ll have the ability to name your keep, and begin construction upon your lands to create a small kingdom. To help you grow your power and influence, your maester will be there to give helpful advice and answer your questions, along with the captain of your guard, and your master of coin (the bailiff).
After you choose your name and portrait (which is essentially your “avatar” for Game of Thrones Ascent), you will have to decide what life you’ve lived up until this point, such as whether you were a highborn bastard, a former mercenary, a merchant, a whisperer, a fosterling (or a “ward” as described in the books), a minor noble by marriage, or a hedge knight. Each choice will have an impact on the skills you will have later on, which means you must choose wisely. While it is important to focus on growing your own strength, rather than the strength of others, you will have to make an alliance with a greater House; without this alliance, you will surely amount to nothing. Before you align your powers with one of the greater Houses, however, you must first design your own banner to present to your liegelord. Game of Thrones Ascent provides a variety of sigils, banner styles, and colors for you to use for the creation of your custom House banner. Once you have completed your banner, you will have the options between all of the great Houses for an ally, each House providing certain perks and benefits. With the help of an ally, you will have a chance to grow your own House.
In your journey to greatness, you will have to complete many challenges and quests. To do so, you will have several courses of action to choose from, each path corresponding with a minor skill, such as sabotage, spying, bribing, fighting, etc. Your job will be to choose the course of action that is the most powerful, which is determined by the skills you’ve gained through your former career path and fealty. Using your most powerful skills to your advantage will ensure victory at every turn.
As powerful as you may think you are, you can’t walk your road alone; you will have to hire and acquire sworn swords along the way to do your bidding. With multiple sworn swords by your side, you’ll be able to complete more missions simultaneously, as opposed to waiting for your single sworn swords to complete one mission at a time.
The faster you progress, the faster your power will grow. Now that you’ve established your position in Westeros, you will be free to start your journey to greatness by completing the Game of Thrones Ascent storyline.
If you are playing Game of Thrones Ascent, then you know that there are in-game items you can purchase to help you through the game. These items include gold and silver, but these purchases cost real money, and this gets expensive really quickly. This is why AppGameCheats has put out a free hack tool, which you can use on both Android and iOS to get unlimited amounts of gold and silver for free.
Look at the picture below to see how the Game of Thrones Ascent hack generator options menu is setup, which is really easy to use, and it is completely safe for your device.
Simply download the Game of Thrones Ascent hack tool, which takes about 30 seconds, and the hack generator automatically installs, which also takes about 30 seconds. You will need to choose which device you are using, either iOS or Android. You can then input how much gold and silver you want to add to your account.
Click “Start” to begin the hack generator once you are ready, which takes about 1 minute to complete. Once the tool has finished working, all you have to do is open up Game of Thrones Ascent on your device, and you will see that the items have been added to your account. You can then use these items to help you through Game of Thrones Ascent, and you can come back and use the hack tool as many times as you would like.
Even with an advisor, strategy and a working knowledge of Game of Thrones Ascent will be the deciding factors in whether you will succeed in becoming a great power within Westeros, or just another beggar Lord. Luckily for you, we have a guide to get you started on the right foot.
When playing Game of Thrones Ascent, you will continually have to make decisions on your course of action based on your stats. For each stat, there are three actions that are more effective when the corresponding stat is raised. Your main three stats are Battle, Trade, and Intrigue.
Battle- High Battle stats increase the effectiveness of Fight, Harass, and Aid.Trade- High Trade stats increase the effectiveness of Barter, Swindle, and Bribe.
Intrigue- High Intrigue stats increase the effectiveness of Spy, Sabotage, and Steal.
For example, if you had high Trade stats, you’d mostly complete missions by using Barter, Swindle, and Bribe; using any other actions would reduce your chances of successfully completing the quest. Because of this, you should always strive to focus on one single area of expertise to ensure victory in all of your endeavors to focus your powers. Your sworn swords will also have special stats that effect your strengths and weaknesses, so make sure to train your sworn swords into specialization; this will increase the effectiveness of the actions corresponding to the stat you specialize in (Battle, Trade, or Intrigue).
After your avatar reaches level 5, you will gain one talent point for every level achieved from then on. Talent points increase the strength or effectiveness of some actions, similar to how increasing your stats will cause certain actions to become more effective. Utilize these talent points wisely, as they do not come often.
Up until now, I’ve been telling you that the easiest way to complete your quests is to choose the actions that are the most effective for your character. While this is technically true, the real secret to success is choosing the easiest route to victory while still making sound decisions. You need to balance the risk of failing a task with the risk of making a decision that could backfire and ruin your standing within Game of Thrones Ascent. Make a conscious effort to make choices as if you were actually living as your character.
Economy
The Counting House is the backbone of your economy in Game of Thrones Ascent, and you must give it all the attention that it is due. Your silver, collected as taxes, will accrue at the Counting House, which can only hold a limited amount of silver before the excess earnings are lost. If you wish to unlock the power of of your capital, keep withdrawing silver from the Counting House, which will in turn ensure that you never waste a single silver coin while playing Game of Thrones Ascent. As your funds continue to grow, upgrading your Counting House’s silver capacity would be a wise course of action; a larger capacity for silver storage reduces the chances of silver “overflow” resulting from the neglect of regularly collecting your funds.
If there was ever a game to get your friends hooked on, it would have to be Game of Thrones Ascent. If you add a friend in-game, you will be able to send each other helpful gifts via raven; some of these gifts could help to speed up missions and increase your power within the realm. The developers have even added secret missions, available only to those who have added their friends in Game of Thrones Ascent. One very important secret to defeating bosses with ease is calling your friends into the fray to aid you in your efforts; a luxury that other, uninformed players do not have. To add a friend, simply open the friend menu from the home screen, and select “add friends”. This will allow you to add your friends from the main Kongregate site.
Game of Thrones Ascent has been a fun, unique gaming experience based on one of my favorite book series, but some aspects of the game need improvement. For example, I’ve found the button interface within the game to be slightly buggy; I would often repeatedly tap a button without receiving a response, or some buttons that are meant to be displayed on the screen disappear! This could be an internet connection issue on my end, but it happens too frequently, even when I know I have a near-perfect connection.
I’ve also been slightly annoyed by the fact that you need to purchase gold via IAP (In-App Purchases) if you intend to advance through the game at a reasonable pace. There is a timer that makes you wait to for the completion of a mission before you can move on, and this timer can be forced to 0 by spending a few gold coins. While this is somewhat acceptable due to the fact that Game of Thrones Ascent is free to download, it is definitely frustrating when you’re eager to know the outcome of the mission you’ve sent your sworn sword on!
Apart from my minor quibbles, Game of Thrones Ascent is a solid app that deserves more attention than what it is given. The soundtrack is moving, and is taken right from the show. Game of Thrones Ascent also manages to perfectly intertwine your own journey with the grand plot unfolding within Westeros, all while staying within A Song of Ice and Fire canon. The ability to choose your fealty and customize your banner adds a certain element of reality to the overall experience; something that I am very much pleased with. Although it can take time to progress through quests, they are interesting enough to grab my attention and leave me in suspense. The only improvement they could have made is reducing the waiting time between missions.
Artwork- Game of Thrones Ascent doesn’t really have much to offer in terms of stunning visual content, yet I haven’t found anything to really complain about as far as artwork goes; it does its job, nothing more and nothing less. I’ll give the artwork a 6/10.
Music/SFX- Game of Thrones Ascent uses music from the show to enhance your gaming experience. Given how much I love the original music for all of its powerful waves of emotional energy, this rating will be a no brainer: 10/10.
General Gameplay- To be frankly honest, I expected a little more oomph out of Game of Thrones Ascent because of the great story it represents, but by no means is the game a letdown of any sort. I find gameplay to be amazingly complex, but also very enjoyable in its own way. The addition of fealties and sworn swords really added an element to the game that I didn’t expect to see in a free-to-play handheld release. I’ll give the general gameplay a rating of 8/10.
Addictiveness- While the main draw of Game of Thrones Ascent is its story rather than addictive gameplay, I still found myself setting my sworn swords to new tasks whenever they were available, trying to blow through missions as soon as I could. I’ll rate the addictiveness of this game a 7/10.
While I feel Game of Thrones Ascent has some issues, it has been an overall enjoyable way to pass my time and delve deeper into George R. R. Martin’s fantasy world. I will give this game an overall rating of 7/10.
