If you’re the type of person that would forget your own head if it wasn’t already screwed on, you may occasionally leave your system powered up while you’re not playing. This is fine, but can be costly – not to mention bad for the planet. Fortunately, the PlayStation 4 comes with a set of nifty power saving features to help keep your bills down.
1. Go to the PS4 Settings Screen
Once you’ve logged into your PS4’s primary account, push up on the d-pad to access the top layer of menu options. Scroll all the way to the right until you find a toolbox labelled ‘Settings’, and tap the X button.
2. Select Power Saving Settings
In the menu, scroll down to the option ‘Power Saving Settings’ using the d-pad and select it with the X button.
3. Enable PS4 Power Saving
Scroll down to the option labelled ‘Set Time Until PS4 Turns Off’ using the d-pad and select it with the X button. You can choose to set different parameters for ‘Media Playback’ (i.e. Blu-ray movies and Netflix) and ‘Games’. Enabling these will automatically turn off the console after the set period has passed, assuming that you haven’t interacted with the system during that time.
4. Disabling PS4 Power Saving
If for some reason you’d like to turn this feature off, repeat all of the above steps, but select ‘Off’ in the ‘Media Playback’ and ‘Games’ parameters.
