Going deeper underground

Minecraft PS3 Trophy Guide

MineCraft: PlayStation 3 Edition may look simple on the surface, but it’s one of the most imaginative games currently available for Sony’s ageing home console. It also happens to sport a fairly straightforward Platinum Trophy, so as big fans of this indie escapade, we’ve pulled together a guide helping you to score the top trinket in this creative excursion. All you’ll need to excavate the rare award is a copy of the game and some 15-20 hours of your time.

Minecraft PlayStation 3 Road Map

Road Map

If you’re new to MineCraft, it might be worth playing through the game’s excellent tutorial before getting started. You’ll pick up plenty of tips during this session – as well as a few Trophies to boot. You may also want to peruse our quick start guide, which includes an introduction to the basics in the game. Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to start a new game.

Begin by gathering the basic materials: wood and stone. Craft some stone tools and kill some animals for food. Then head down into a cave to collect coal, iron, gold, and diamonds. Upgrade your tools to iron and then to diamond, and don’t forget to craft some armour. The next step is to collect some obsidian using your diamond pickaxe. You’ll need at least 16 in total: 14 for a portal, and two for the enchanting table.

Next, enchant your armour and sword and build a Nether portal. Enter the Nether and find a fortress to kill some Blaze, ensuring to collect their rods. Use the Ender pearls and Blaze rods to make Eyes of Ender, and find a stronghold. Explore the stronghold for the portal room, and then jump to the End. Here, you’ll need to defeat the Enderdragon by destroying the beacons on the towers and then attacking the dragon itself.

Once you’re done, sit back and watch the credits roll, while that sweet Platinum Trophy pings. Of course, if you happen to have missed any of the individual gongs, simply check out the guide embedded below.

Trophy Guide

Awarded all Trophies - Platinum
All Trophies have been awarded.

Collect every Trophy.

Taking Inventory - Bronze
Open your inventory.

A quick tap of the triangle button will open your inventory.

Getting Wood - Bronze
Punch a tree until the block of wood pops out.

Find the nearest tree and punch it until a wood block pops out.

Benchmarking - Bronze
Craft a workbench with four blocks of wooden planks.

Convert a piece of wood into four planks in your crafting window (press square to open it), and then craft a workbench out of them.

Time to Mine! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a pickaxe.

Grab some wood and craft a wooden pickaxe in the crafting window.

Hot Topic - Bronze
Construct a furnace out of eight cobblestone blocks.

Mine some stone using a pickaxe and craft a furnace in the crafting menu.

Acquire Hardware - Silver
Smelt an iron ingot.

Enter a cave and find some iron ore. Then mine it with a stone pickaxe and place it in a furnace with some coal. The ore will slowly smelt into an iron ingot.

Time to Farm! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a hoe.

Collect some wood from a tree and craft away.

Bake Bread - Silver
Turn wheat into bread.

Walk around on grass and punch the bushy tufts of it and you will receive seeds. Then hoe a block of grass near water and plant the seeds. You can then either wait for them to grow, or use some bone meal to speed up the process of growth. As a result, you will gain some wheat. Collect three and then craft a loaf of bread.

The Lie - Silver
Bake a cake using wheat, sugar, milk and eggs!

First you'll need to get wheat (see above) and sugar. Sugar is made from sugarcane, which is found in the world often growing near water. All it requires is a punch to collect, and then you can craft it into sugar. Milk is obtained by using three iron ingots to craft a bucket, and a simple click on the cow with the bucket will give you milk. Finally, find a chicken and wait for an egg.

Getting an Upgrade - Bronze
Construct a better pickaxe.

Grab some wood and cobblestone and craft the night away.

Delicious Fish - Silver
Catch and cook a fish!

Craft a fishing rod using sticks and string. Then find some water and cast your line. Wait until the bob on your rod goes under the water, and then reel her in. Throw the fish into a furnace with some coal and dinner is served.

On A Rail - Gold
Travel by minecart to a point at least 500m in a single direction from where you started.

This trinket can be a pain to get, but as long as you have lots of Gold, Iron, and Redstone, it's easy peasy. Craft lots of rails powered and non-powered, and then walk in a straight line for 500 blocks placing down the tracks. Simply hop in a minecart and ride it on back.

Time to Strike! - Bronze
Use planks and sticks to make a sword.

Grab some wood and you're all good. The key to all crafted things is the square button.

Monster Hunter - Bronze
Attack and destroy a monster.

Find a monster, and kill the monster. It's easier to find monsters at night, and it's best to kill them with a sword.

Cow Tipper - Bronze
Harvest some leather.

Slaughter some innocent cows until they hand over some skin.

When Pigs Fly - Gold
Use a saddle to ride a pig, then have the pig get hurt from fall damage while riding it.

This one is easier with a friend playing (or even your mum). First you need to find a saddle from a chest inside a dungeon. Then put the saddle on the pig and ride it. After this, get your friend to dig a four block deep hole and punch the pig into it while you’re riding it.

Leader of the Pack - Silver
Befriend five wolves.

In order to befriend a wolf you'll need bones, which requires you to kill a lot of skeletons. Once you have acquired enough bones, run around in a forest until you make some new toothy mates.

MOAR Tools - Bronze
Construct one type of each tool (one pickaxe, one spade, one axe and one hoe).

Get some wood and open the crafting window to make every tool.

Dispense With This - Silver
Construct a Dispenser.

Collect seven cobblestone, a piece of redstone, and a bow. Craft it.

Into the Nether - Silver
Construct a Nether portal.

Craft a diamond pickaxe, as you will need this to mine the obsidian. Get some water and lava using a bucket. Pour them out next to each other in order to make obsidian and mine it. Do this fourteen times, and then arrange the obsidian blocks in a five tall, four wide, and only one deep rectangle (leaving the six middle blocks empty). Finally craft a flint and steel using an iron ingot and a piece of flint (gained from punched gravel). Hit the portal with the flint and steel to light it.

Sniper Duel - Silver
Kill a skeleton with an arrow from more than 50 meters.

This can be tricky, but there are a couple of tricks to getting it. First off you need to use sticks and string to craft a bow. Also use flint, sticks, and feathers to craft arrows. Once equipped with the bow and arrows, head to a desert biome at night; as there are no trees to get in the way of your shots, it's easy to see from long distance and hit skeletons. Also the further away the skeleton is, the higher that you need to aim the bow.

DIAMONDS! - Gold
Acquire diamonds with your iron tools.

Make an iron pickaxe, and then head deep underground. Diamonds are only found very deep underground, near lava and bedrock.

Return to Sender - Gold
Destroy a Ghast with a fireball.

Enter the Nether and stand in the firing line of a Ghast. When its fireball comes close, hit it with your hand or sword in order to send the flaming projectile back in the direction of the sender.

Into Fire - Silver
Relieve a Blaze of its rod.

In the Nether, explore until you find a fortress. In the fortress, there will be Blaze spawners. All you have to do is kill Blazes until they give you a rod. We would recommend that you get full diamond armour and a diamond sword before trying to kill Blazes.

Local Brewery - Silver
Brew a potion.

Use the Blaze rod acquired in Into Fire (see above) to craft a brewing stand. Also craft some glass bottles by smelting sand, and lastly grab some Nether wart from the Nether fortress. Put the glass bottles and Nether wart in the brewing stand and it will brew an awkward potion. This can then be used in the brewing stand again with one of the following ingredients to make a potion: sugar, spider eye, Ghast tear, or Blaze powder.

The End? - Gold
Enter the End Portal.

This can take a long time to achieve, and has many steps to it. First you need to collect Ender pearls from Ender Men, which is easier to do in a desert biome at night. Second on the list is Blaze rods (see Into Fire), which you can convert into Blaze powder. Use these two items, Ender pearls and Blaze powder, to craft Eyes of Ender. Thirdly, go exploring once you have collected at least 15 Eyes of Ender, and every now and again throw one up in the air and then follow in that direction. After a while it will lead you to a spot where you have to dig down and find a stronghold. Lastly, explore the stronghold until you find the portal room, place the remaining Eyes of Ender in the portal frame and jump in.

The End. - Gold
Kill the Enderdragon.

Once in the End (see above), you will be faced with a dragon to defeat. Use either your bow or some blocks to take out the regeneration beacons on every obsidian tower. Then use your bow or sword to kill the dragon.

Enchanter - Silver
Construct an Enchantment Table.

Get four obsidian, two diamonds, and a book. Then craft away.
