Guide: How to Setup PS4 and PS Vita Remote Play

Connected consoles

One of the PlayStation 4’s most important features is its compatibility with the PlayStation Vita. Earlier in the year, Sony announced that all developers would be required to support Remote Play on the next generation console, allowing you to play any games without a heavy emphasis on motion controls on the handheld device. But how do you connect your PS4 to the portable platform? Honestly, it’s quite easy.

1. Launch the PS4 Link Application

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to update your Vita’s firmware update to v3.00. Once you’ve completed this, you’ll find that a new application has been added to the handheld’s user interface. Tap it to launch its LiveArea, and then tap the start screen. You’ll be presented with two options here: ‘Remote Play’ and ‘Second Screen’. Tap the ‘Remote Play’ option.

2. Prepare the PS4

If this is your first time setting up Remote Play, you’ll be told to register a PS4 system. To do this, turn on your console and log in to your main user account. Once the interface has loaded, push up on the d-pad and scroll right until you reach the ‘Settings’ option. Select it and scroll down the subsequent menu to the option ‘PS Vita Connection Settings’. Next, click on the option ‘Add Device’.

3. Connect the Devices

Once you’ve completed this, the PS4 will display an eight-number code which you must enter into the Vita. You only have five minutes to do this, so make sure that you don’t hang about. If time runs out, you’ll have to repeat the above steps again. Once you’ve entered the code on the Vita, tap the ‘Register’ icon. If you’ve copied out the code correctly, this should initiate the connection process. Assuming that all goes well, you’ll see the PS4 dashboard on the Vita’s screen.

4. Connecting to a Different PS4

If you want to connect your Vita to a different PS4, you can do this by loading up the PS4 Link Application and tapping the ‘...’ icon in the bottom right corner of the handheld’s screen. Tap ‘Settings’ and then tap the ‘Change PS4 System to Connect to for Remote Play’ button. Then follow steps 2 and 3 to tether your handheld to the new console.
