The high seas may not be one of the places Assassin’s Creed goes to next in our wishlist, but hey, we’re not complaining as long as it’s coming to our phones and tablets. Assassin’s Creed: Pirates is here, folks, and it’s got “brutal naval combat, Caribbean exploration and an epic quest for legendary treasure.”
You won’t be playing as Ezio Auditore (who Dave wants to hang out with in real life) or any of the main franchise protagonists. Instead, you will be playing as Alonzo Batilla, a captain of a ship in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy. As Batilla, you need to recruit and manage your crew, upgrade your ship, and get into real-time naval battles. The gameplay is not even close to the stealth-action tactics that the Assassin’s Creed series is known for. Here’s a demo:
If you like those graphics, that’s because Ubisoft has built a new mobile engine for the game with moving waters and lush islands. The downside is that this makes it a pretty resource-intensive game and you’ll need a high-end mobile device to run it perfectly.
So climb on board and set sail in your quest to claim La Buse’s treasure. And hey, you’ll even come across some famous buccaneers like Blackbeard as well as Assassins and Templars in your journey.
Assassin’s Creed: Pirates is available for iOS and Android for $4.99.
