Dark Souls Text and Video Walkthrough
Act 1.
Introduction
Dark Souls lets you pick between several player types, Warriors are good with all physical weapons but have low magic. Knights act as tanks, and have the highest Vitality. Wanderer’s have high Dexterity, allowing them to use advanced weapons, along with average stats.
Thieves have the highest Dexterity, and start with the Master Key item, allowing you to unlock certain doors early. Bandits have the best physical stats in the game but are slow and have low magic. Hunters use bows and high Dexterity to deliver long range attacks and quick but weak close up attacks.
Sorcerers have high offensive magic stats like Attune and Intelligence, and start with a Soul Arrow, a very useful magic attack. Pyromancers have the best balance of magic and physical weapons, their Faith and Dexterity are low, and not suited for healing. Clerics have high faith, starts out with a Heal Miracle as well, but has low Dexterity and Intelligence.
Lastly is the Deprived, has completely balanced stats, but starts out with poor equipment as well. This class isn’t recommended for beginning players, but for when you want to start with a greater challenge. Once you’ve decided your class, you have the choice of one of the following gift items.
Goddess’ Blessing will fully restore HP and clear your bad status effects. Black Firebombs are powerful expendable items that do major fire damage to enemies on contact, and will give you an edge on the first boss. Twin Humanities allow you to start the game with 2 Humanities in your inventory, these have a great deal of importance during the game.
Binoculars allow you to look further into the distance and can be used to plan your next moves. The Pendant doesn’t have any immediate use, but can be traded in for an item later on, or to speak to a hidden NPC. The Master Key can be used to unlock various doors through out the game unless stated otherwise.
The Tiny Being’s Ring actually does not regenerate health but increases the base HP, the in game description is incorrect. While the Old Witch’s Ring, like the Pendant, is used to speak to a hidden NPC later in the game. Once you’re ready, start the game at the Northern Undead Asylum.
Act 1
Northern Undead Asylum
Examine the corpse for a Dungeon Key and exit the cell, reading the messages and killing any Undead on your way out, while learning the basic controls of the game. When playing online, these messages found later in the game will be left behind by other players with hints that may either help or hinder your progress. Climb up the stairs and continue to follow the path ahead.
Fight off all the smaller Undead enemies with whatever equipment you may have on you, pay close attention to your stamina meter, as it is consumed whenever an action is preformed, and will regenerate the less you move. Follow the path up to a ladder and climb it to the top.
You’ll find your first Bonfire, which you can rest at to recover health, you also return to that location in the event of your death. Later can be used to level up stats and more, however, resting respawns any common vanquished enemies in the world back to life.
Once you are ready, open the gates infront of the bonfire to start your first boss fight, the Asylum Demon is a terrible foe especially this early in the game, and most likely you will be killed by him. If you feel the need to run away, dash to the left of the room and through an open door, which bars itself after entering, protecting your from him for the time being.
If you are feeling lucky and wish to take him on then any offensive items such as the Black Firebombs, spam them at a distance while dodging his wide club attacks. Otherwise just focus on avoiding his massive attacks and try to get in as many hits as you can, as he can easily break your guard.
Using magic and arrows can give you some breathing room, but make sure he doesn’t close the gap and attack you while prepping your attack. If you decide to melee him attacking him from behind is your best option.
If you won, you are rewarded with one thousand souls, the Big Pilgrim’s Key which will be used to escape later, and The Demon’s Great Hammer, one of many rare weapons which are earned by preforming special tasks all over the world with special abilities and strengths. And collecting all of them will lead into the Knights Honor Achievement/Trophy.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Exiting the boss fight, walk down the stairs where another bonefire is waiting for you, light it and move through to the next area cautiously, there is a Hollowed Archer at the end of the path so be ready to dodge into the left passageway and grab a shield from the corpse inside the room.
You can now close in onto the archer with some protection, he’ll run away so you can collect your first basic weapon, which changes depending on the class you started the game with. Once you have it, continue down the next corridor and finish him off.
Afterwards, walk through the white light and move to the right. As you approach the next corner you’ll see a flight of staircases, be weary of the one heading up, as a large iron boulder will roll down towards you and do damage. Try to trigger it and jump down to the lower stair case.
The lower stair case leads to another bonfire so rest there if you need the healing, the higher stair case has an enemy and a locked gate, so instead go into the hole in the wall created by the iron boulder. In the room you’ll find a dying knight, speak to him and he’ll tell you about the Bells of Awakening.
Accept his request and give you 2 items. Estus Flasks are used for healing, and can be refilled at any working bonfire. He’ll also give you the Undead Asylum F2 East Key.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Estus Flask. Acquire Estus Flask (15G/Bronze).
Continuing through the second floor gate, there will be 4 more enemies at the top, 2 Undeads and a Undead Archer. A Undead Knight will be further down the path near another locked gate. If you managed to kill the Asylum Demon you can finally use his key to open the gate, however, if not then you must go back through the near by white light and finish the job.
You’ll find yourself on top of a platform directly above the Asylum Demon, use this opportunity to preform a plunging attack and get a free hit on him, taking of up to half of his health. If you delay though, he’ll smash the platform with his hammer and send you crashing down, losing some health as well.
Now that you’ve got some better equipment this will go a bit easier, melee attack him from behind while avoiding his wide sweeps and pounds, or keep your distance and pelt him with magic and arrows while avoiding his lunging slams. Also if you died at anytime during the game, you will lose all your souls and start off at the last bonfire you rested at.
It is possible to recover them if you return to where you died and collect the green orb of light. But if you die at any point before hand, your souls and humanity will disappear permanently.
Once that area as been passed and the boss killed, use the Big Pilgrim’s Key on the large double doors, and exit the asylum, but before leaving there are 3 last things you can do before you go. There is a corpse behind a locked gate in a room that was near the white light, If you have a Master Key, you can unlock it and collect a Rusted Iron Ring.
Back at the cliff on the right path there is a small crows nest, where you’ll find Sparkly the Crow, who you can exchange certain times for various items such as rings, crafting items, weapons and more.
On the left there’ll be a corpse with a Lost Soul of an Undead, this will give you a set number of souls you can use anywhere. Its good to hold onto these unless you need it. Incase you die and and can’t get your souls back these can help you out, or give you a quick soul boost to level up.
After handing over the item you must save and exit the game, then upon reloading you item will be waiting in the nest. Walk to the edge of the cliff, where you will be transported to Firelink Shrine, and enter the land of Lordran
Act 1.
Firelink Shrine
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Reach Lordran. Arrive in Lordran (15G/Bronze).
Upon arrival to the shrine, rest at the bonfire, you’ll notice you can now level up your stats using the souls you’ve collected so far, and 2 other options, Kindle and Reverse Hollowing. Kindling will allow you to increase your Estus Flask use up to 10 times.
To kindle, you must first use a Humanity to Reverse Hollowing and become human again, then you need to sacrifice Humanity for the actual Kindling. Speak to the solider near by to learn 2 interesting bits of information, there are actually 2 bells of awakening, one in a church, the other underground.
And he also tells you about the 3 ways to earn Humanity, which not only can be used at bonfire, but also effect your item drop rates. The more you have, the more items and better quality you can find. Humanity can find be found in a variety of ways, from corpses or enemy drops.
Or in online mode, enter another player’s world and kill them while they are in human form. This method is risky as you could be logged in “The Book of Guilty” and you will be hunted down by other players. Take this time to explore a bit and kill any small enemies you may find to buff up your stats.
Avoid the Graveyard though, the skeletons there are extremely difficulty and don’t drop any souls after dying. There are some soul items and equipment in the graveyard, but only risk it if you are fast enough to grab them and run back to the bonfire for safety.
Near the bonfire you’ll see some paths going up with stone arches at the entrances, branching into 3 different paths, the rightmost one leads to a chest containing 6 Firebombs, the middle one leads to a man named Petrus, speak to him a few times and he’ll give you a Copper Coin.
Speak to him again and he’ll offer to teach you Miracles. Accept his offer to join his Covenant in order to do so. Miracles and Sorceries are dependent on stats like Faith, Intelligence. There’s also Pyromancy, which gives you less uses, but has no requirements other than having a Pyromancy Flame.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Covenant: Way of White. Discover Way of White covenant. (15G/Bronze).
But remember, joining a Covenant is a commitment, if you join someone else’s or do something they find unacceptable they will ban you. Only Oswald of Carim, who will appear after defeating the boss at the first belltower can fix this. But he’ll charge you 2000 Souls multiplied by your soul level.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles. (25G/Silver).
Moving on, continue up the staircase to find a soul item, and on your way there, you may have noticed 2 open doors that lead to a dark shaft. Head back down and fall into the shaft, you won’t take any damage and find a hidden path to some hidden goodies.
5 treasure chests containing the following items, 4 Cracked Red Eye Orbs, used for invading other player’s games, a Morning Star, a Talisman, used for casting Miracles, and 6 Homeward Bones, which can be used to warp to the last bonfire you saved at with no penalties.
The only way out of this area is to walk through the only opening it the cliff walls, which leads into the graveyard. So get ready to run for to bonfire, as they don’t seem to travel very far from the graveyard. If you are felling lucky you can risk trying to collect the other items in the area.
2 Large Souls of a Lost Undeads, a Caduceus Round Shield, a Winged Spear, a Zweihander sword and Binoculars are all that are in the graveyard. Then head to the stairs on the cliffside leading up, there are quite a few Undead Knights and Soldiers on the way up so move carefully.
It is easy to fall and die while fighting them. Also take care not to get hit by Firebombs being thrown by a Hollow near the top of the stairs, or getting shot be an Archer at the top of a stone bridge. Once all of the enemies have been taken care of, there are a few items in the area you can grab before moving on.
There are 2 Souls of a Lost Undead, one is guarded by a Hollow Knight, while the other is on the bridge. There is also a Ring of Sacrifice, and extremely useful item that allows you to be revived at a bonfire with no loss of souls or humanity, at the cost of shattering the ring.
The ring is located under the bridge at the far end of the bridge columns. You can get there by either risking to fall down from the top and try to fall on the ledges, or you also can run and jump from a cliff near the bottom of the stairs that is close to the ledges.
Both of these methods can get you killed easily, but they’re the only ways to get a great item that can save you alot of pain later in the game. After dealing with the enemies outside, head past the bridge and into a hallway with another corpse carrying a Soul of a Lost Undead, and an Undead Rat.
Alone its no threat, but many other Rats later in the game can inflict poison on you later, and appear in swarms so take care when approaching one. Head through the hallway, the gate infront of you is locked from the opposite side, so head to the left, and up the stairs.
Act 1.
Undead Burg
As you enter The Undead Burg there’ll be 2 Undead Soldiers waiting for you near some barrels, take care of them in whatever way you can, be careful when turning the corner as there are 2 more Hollow Soldiers and the first one will throw Firebombs at you as well.
Once thats done, head back to the barrels and break the ones nearest to the Northwest side, look down and you’ll see a corpse with a Large Lost Soul of the Undead that you can fall down to. Fall down again to the next level and be ready to fight 2 more Undead enemies.
Once they’re dead, turn towards the tower you jumped off from and climb up the stairs, make a left and climb more, you’ll find a room with another Lost Soul of the Undead. Go back down and continue the path downwards and across the bridge the other stairs here going upwards are blocked.
As you pass the bridge and through the next room, there will be 4 more Undead who are clinging to the sides of the platform, waiting to ambush you, get the jump on them by attacking their hands before they can climb up to attack you. You may not be able to get all of them so just get as many as you can to thin their numbers.
Collect some Rubbish from the near by corpse, it has some use later so don’t toss it away. Climb up the ladder ahead, there may be another Hollow ahead so get ready to take him out, there’ll be a corpse ahead with Humanity on him waiting for you when you’re done.
Head back and walk off the broken side of the bridge onto the lower stairs, these are the same stairs you started the level at, continue on but this time head left, where you’ll see 2 buildings connected by a broken wooden bridge. The building on the left of the bridge has a useful item, but you can’t reach it right now, you need to get to higher ground first.
We’ll come back to that later, for now, traverse the white light on the right building and move on. Break the barrels and crates to find another corpse with a Soul of the Lost Undead. Head up the stairs where you’ll be greeted by a lot of Hollowed Soldiers and Archers, one will run towards you the minute you get in view, so watch out for him.
There’s also another one hiding behind some wooden boards, along with an archer firing arrows at you. If you can try to quickly kill the archer first, then the soldier as the archer can take free shots at you while you’re trying to take down the soldier.
There’ll be a bonfire to the left of the archer’s position that you can rest at, however once you do they’ll respawn again so just try to kill them the same way you did last time. After dealing with them, head through the door in the room the archer was standing over, and you’ll find a corpse with a Wooden Shield.
Then head back opposite the direction of the broken wooden barrier and you’ll see 2 Undead Soldiers with spears. These guys are much more defensive than their brothers so it’ll be difficult trying to get a hit in. Your best options dealing with them are to either get behind them and attack their back, maybe even getting a back stab if you’re lucky.
Wait until after they attack and then take a few swipes at them, and if you are skilled enough, parry their attacks and retaliate with a letal counter attack. Try to lure one out of his area into the one with the boards, and avoid having to deal with both of them at the same time.
Once they’ve been taken care of, break the boxes and head down a flight of hidden stairs, in the next room there’ll be a Undead Solider hiding behind a bookcase and other things underneath the stairs. Make sure not to get ambushed by him. Head into the open area infront of the stairs and to the left, you’ll find your first merchant.
Who’ll gladly sell you many unique items for souls. It is suggested that you have the souls, buy a Short Bow and as many Standard Arrows as you can. There is a secret weapon that requires it not far from here so this will help you with that. Bows and Arrows are also very good at thinning out enemies at a distance so use this weapon to your advantage.
The Undead Merchant also sells a Weapon Smithbox, and a Residence Key, the Weapon Smithbox allows you to use Titanite Ores and etch it into your weapons, re-enforcing them at bonefires, it is possible to get it later though at a cheaper price of 2000 Souls instead of 3000 in the next area so if you want to wait till you have the souls you have the option to do so.
The Residence Key is also something to have if you weren’t able to get a Master Key at the beginning of the game, and allows you to access a very useful item that will be vital for beating the next boss.
You can also attack and kill him for the Resident Key, Humanity, Orange Sign Soapstone, and an Uchigatana, a powerful katana, but remember that once you kill any NPC in this game, with the exception of a few quests, they will never return until your new game+.
He will fight back using said katana so be ready for a fight, there is blacksmith that sells things later but he doesn’t sell some items the merchant does. So think carefully about what yo want from this. Heading back from the merchant, take a left instead and follow the path down some stairs.
This will lead you to the earlier building that you couldn’t access from the broken bridge, there’ll be 4 Undead on the way you can easily kill so don’t worry about that. Head up the ladder and onto the roof, there’ll be a corpse with 10 Throwing Knifes that you can collect.
Now, if you head forward and look down from the edge of the cliff you’ll see the broken bridge from earlier. Get back and start to sprint towards it and jump, hopefully if you’ve angled it right you should have landed on the opposite side. Go up the stairs and head to the right, left if you’re looking outside of the door.
You’ll see a corpse on a rail which you can collect a Light Crossbow and 16 Standard Crossbow Bolts, Crossbows can’t be zoomed in like Regular Bows can, and need to be use with 2 hands always. So if you’re interested in keeping you distance in close range combat this is a weapon to use.
Head back and continue beyond the bonfire, but don’t travel to quickly, look above the next area from the Undead Archer’s position, you’ll see 3 Undaed Soliders tossing firebombs towards you if you haven’t heard them already. They can’t reach you, yet.
While you have them in view, snipe them with your bow. This will also make the next fight easier as they will be coming down to kill you if you haven’t killed them already. Moving on, the next room will have 2 Undead Soliders and a Undead Knight.
It is very easy to get cornered by these guys, try to either snipe them like you did the earlier 3 or draw them out one by one and take care of them separately. Head inside the left building and get ready for 2 Undead Soliders, one right as you enter and another in a tiny room behind him.
Once their taken care of, you can head to the remaining room in the building and find a chest with 5 Black Firebombs. Leave the building and move on up the near by stairs. You’ll be greeted by 3 more Undaed Soliders, and one of them tosses firebombs so be careful.
If you have a Heater Shield you may be able to reduce some of the damage caused by them, also try drawing them out one by one down the stairs. Once they’ve been taken care of, you can climb up a ladder heading to where the 3 Hollow Soliders were throwing Firebombs at you earlier.
Walk along the platforms to collect a Soul of the Lost Undead, then head back, you’ll see a door that can be unlocked if you have a Master Key, or the Residence Key if you bought it from the Merchant. Head through the room and to a ledge with a chest, and collect 3 Golden Pine Resin.
This item will temporarily augment your weapon with the power of Lighting, which the next boss is extremely weak against so hold onto it. Don’t jump off the ledge to move on, as the 3 Undeads with spears will jump you along with a Undead Crossbowman at a top of a near by tower.
Head back and take care of the Crossbowman first so he can’t snipe you from the top. Once he’s dead, take care of the remaining Spearman. There is a Blue Tearstone Ring, which increases defense near death, at the bottom of the near by stairs, unfortunately it is also guarded by a Dark Knight.
Dark Knights are extremely powerful, even the Golden Pine Resin can’t enforce your weapons enough to kill them. So unless you have a large number of Firebombs or Black Firebombs that you’re willing to unload on him, avoid this area until later. Or at the least, until you get the up coming special weapon. If you beat him he’ll also drop a Black Knight Sword
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Moving on, head up the near by staircase to a spiraling staircase, up to a door with white light, make sure you’re prepared with healing, adequate equipment and Golden Pine Resin. Because the Taurus Demon is just beyond the white light, and he can be difficult for beginner players.
Taurus Demon
First thing you must do when entering is turn around and climb up the ladder, walking across the bridge will start the fight, and there are 2 Undead Archers atop this tower waiting to take shots at you, take care of them first, then move on. Remember this area though as you can use it to your advantage for your boss fight.
Now walk across the bridge to start the fight, but then immediately run back and climb up the tower again. Use your Golden Pine Resin on your weapon and do a Plunging Attack.
Normally it’ll do roughly 1/3rd of his health, but using the Golden Pine Resin will enhance the amount of damage done to him. Giving you a starting edge, and a solid strategy if you want to spam this as well.
Stay close to this tower as the other side of the bridge is more open, and it is possible to get tossed off by his attacks, so stay close in between his legs and hack away at them if you can’t get back up on the tower. He’s a bit easier than most bosses once you understand his movements so play it smart and you should make it out of this alright.
If you’re using magic, bows and bolts, stay on top of the tower and get as close as possible without falling off, be warned though because he will jump up there to take care of you.
so when he does quickly climb down halfway of the ladder to avoid the jumping damage, once he goes back down you can climb back up and continue the process. Once you’ve beaten him you’ll get 1000 Souls for your efforts.
Continue on the path, or if you want to take this opportunity to go back, heal up, level up and save. Because in the next area, there is a very high chance you will die, instantly. So spend your souls and humanity if you can. Heading on forward and through the next rooms, you’ll see some crates behind a staircase heading down, smash them and collect a Large Soul of Undead
Head down the stairs and to the right, avoid the left side for now, as a Hellkite Dragon will swoop in on you as you try to cross the bridge. If you do not have anything fire resistant, or at the least your shield up, you will die instantly so wait for now.
Down on the terrace you’ll meet Solaire, talk to him a few times and he’ll give you a White Sign Soapstone. Soapstones are used for the online aspect of the game, with Orange ones you can leave behind messages for other players to read, and White ones are especially useful, as you can summon a player or NPC to help you out at glowing signs on the ground.
You’ll also see the image of the person you’re trying to summon. Keep your eye out for Solaire’s sign, he can be an extremely valuable ally in your journey through Lordan. But you must be in Human form to do this, and if you are trying to go to someone else’s game you’ll need to be in Hollow form.
Now heading back to the bridge, you’ll also notice a locked wooden door, but can get a key for it a bit later. Here comes the hard part, a Hellkite Dragon will fly in an kill all the Hollow Soliders at the end of that path.
This can kill you if you’re not ready. Heal up to the max, get your shield ready, equip any armor you may have with high fire resistance, and mad dash to either the front right or left of the soliders. if you were lucky enough to survive or some how fast enough to make it to either the left or right sides of the bridge, head down the near by stairs.
Head through the door infront of you when you enter the room, look for a ladder. When prompted, kick it down and now you will have access to the bonfire from earlier in the stage. Rest and then head back up to continue the stage. Take the remaining door, if you try to go back up on the bridge, the Hellkite Dragon will try kill you.
Make sure to come back to it later, the dragon is protecting a Claymore and a Soul of a Nameless Solider. You also get 10,000 Souls for killing him, a new bonfire area, and a shorter path to the next area, so its definitely a place to remember for a later time when you’ve gotten tougher.
Once you’ve left the room under the bridge, you’ll be outside and under the bridge, there’ll be 2 Hollow Soliders, one with a Spear so be careful they don’t push you off the sides. Now that you’re finally here, you can proceed to collecting a very useful and powerful sword you can get with minimal difficulty
The Drake Sword is a weapon obtained from hitting the Hellkite Dragon’s tail roughly 20 to 30 times with arrows, you should see it in the distance on the right side of the bridge. You don’t worry about getting attacked while you’re hitting him as he can not attack you under the bridge, He’ll move around a bit but you can still hit him when he’s actually on the bridge.
Once it’s done, you’ll get the sword, it has a 16 Strength and 10 Dexterity requirement to use it 1 handed, but the sword’s true power comes from using it with 2 hands. That will give you increased defense, and access to a powerful ground wave attack that can even travel up ramps and hills.
The weapon has 360 Durability but using that attack frequently can take it down quickly so use sparingly. Look on the left of the bridge and you’ll see a door leading to the next area, there’ll also be 3 Rats who can poison you. Most likely, you don’t have anything to counter it so try to shoot them from a distance, don’t take them all on at once.
If you’re lucky they’ll also drop some Humanity as well. Move to the left and back of the room and you’ll see some stairs, climb up and get ready for the Undead Parish, and the Armored Tusk Sub-Boss.
Act 1.
The Undead Parish
Now you have 2 paths to choice from, immediately leaving through the door near by will take you to the Undead Parish, and into the area just before the boss. The spiral staircase that leads upwards, leads to a Great Sword Black Knight, who is extremely powerful. His wide attacks and high defense, coupled with the minimal moving room makes it difficult to take this him on now.
But however if you can successfully dodge his attacks, and manage to get some back stabs on him, you might be able to win. Also almost all of his moves can be parried, but you’ll take a great deal of damage if you fail.Try using your Drake Sword on him if you can, it’ll do alot of damage when his shield is down. If you manage to kill him, you’ll get a Titanite Chunk.
And possibly a Black Knight Greatsword, as it is a common drop so there is a chance you can get a great sword for your troubles. Do not rush in when you move into the next area, keep a distance and look around, you’ll see a Armored Tusk and a large number of Undead Knights. Try to snipe the Hollows with your bow, or lure them in one by one.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Whatever you do, do not provoke it yet, or atleast kill as many Undead as you can before that happens. Also make sure to head up the right staircase, and killing the Archers and Spearman up on the second floor. The Armored Tusk himself is weak against Fire attacks, there are some stakes on fire that you may be able to use and have the boar run into.
Also if you have any fire magic now would be an excellent time to use it. You should have the Drake Sword in your possession as well, now is a good opportunity to use it to your advantage, as it has to 200 physical damage. It’s 2 handed shockwave attack is extremely powerful, especially at close range.
Just make sure not to over use it and accidentally break it, the attack does take up durability. If you need to recover the weapon there’ll be a weapon smith up ahead, or you can buy some repair powder from the merchant and do it on the spot. Its not a full recovery though so remember that.
Stay on the second floor for these next 2 tactics, if you have any Firebombs or Fire magic, toss it at him from up near the tower staircase. You can also jump off and do a plunging attack as well and repeat that as well. Avoid fighting him face to face, killing him will nab you 1000 Souls, and if you’re lucky a Fang Boar Helmet, a strong but heavy piece of equipment.
Now that you’re done here, if you head behind where the Armored Tusk started and look to the right, you’ll see a staircase going downward. Walk down and you’ll see a Hollow running away from you as you enter, do not run after it. There are 2 other Hollows in the room as well who will ambush you when they get the chance.
Be on the defensive, either whip out your shield or start dodging the minute you see them, don’t let them gang up on you and you should be fine. Continue to be on the defensive though because there are 3 more Hollows waiting to ambush you again atop the staircase.
Once you’re atop the stairs another Undead will attack you from a lower area, this one should be alone if you took care of the other ones first so don’t worry about it. Behind him will be a corpse carrying a Mystery Key, this key will be used to activate a side quest in the upcoming area so hold on to it for now. Head back up and climb the ladder upstairs.
Again you’ll be attacked by 2 Hollows on the top of the ladder, so take care of them and look back at the ladder. You’ll see a corpse lying on some support struts with a Soul of a Lost Undead, so carefully make your way across the struts to collect it.
Head back and climb up the next ladder, there won’t be any enemies here but there will be some really though ones beyond the white light so get ready to fight.
A Undead Balder Knight, will be ahead on the right path guarding a Knight Shield. These guys are deadlier thantheir lesser counter parts, when extend their Estocs they can preform parries just like you can and do critical damage if not kill you instantly. They can also do backstabs as well so make sure they don’t get behind you.
Try to sneak up on them and backstab them yourself, or try to attack quickly before they do as they draw their weapon to strike. If you manage to get the Drake Sword you can use that as well to quickly take them down. They’re also weak against magic, so if you have any offensive magic you can let loose a few rounds on him for an easy kill.
Head to the other path, there’ll be a spearman by some barrels, take care of him. In the next corridor there’ll be another spearman and another Balder Knight, on the opposites sides of the path and will try to take you down with a pincer attack. Try to lure out the spearman as he is the closest to you so you can kill him first and then take care of the Balder Knight
There will be 2 paths to take after the fight, the one on your left will lead to the a gate which was behind the area where you fought the Armored Tusk, there’ll be 2 Undead Balder Knights however around the entrance of the parish so be careful. There are some items here, a Basement Key, and a Halberd, along with a level that will open up the gate.
Don’t head into the church yet, you’ll want to head back to the splitting paths and venture across the rickety bridge, as there is another bonfire and a weapon smith beyond it. And there are a few difficult enemies that live inside so you can go and get ready for it before hand. Heading past the bridge there’ll be 2 more Undead Soliders and 1 Archer.
Once they’ve been dealt with head to the right path all the way to the end and down the stairs. You’ll hear some hammering sounds that’ll tell you that you’re close. Once rested try giving Andrei of Astoria a visit. You can buy weapons from him too and he’ll give you details about smithing.
You’ll also notice a large fortess ahead of the bonfire in this area, this path will only open after both bells have been rung. But you can speak to Siegmeyer of Catarina for an interesting conversation, he’ll appear later on in the game at certain points as well for his quest so if you’re interested keep looking out for him.
If you’re ready, proceed back to the Parish, and face the sub-boss, the Heavy Knight, a large mace wielding behemoth. His attacks do massive damage, and his shield blocks many attacks, make sure not to go anywhere near the front entrance of the Parish during the fight, or the Balder Knights will make short work of you while you’re trying to take down this giant.
Avoid parrying his attacks, you can’t counter attack so try to dodge them altogether as he can break your guard very easily. He like many other enemies will try to heal himself, you can use that as an opportunity to deal damage. He’ll either swing his mace from side to side or slam it ahead towards you, when he’s pulling the mace back, close in and attack him before he strikes.
You can also use any distance attacks like magic or even spears like the Halberd to poke at him from a distance and slowly chip away at his health, killing him rewards you with 350 Souls and a Titanite Chunk. Its also worth mentioning that enemies like him do not respawn, so you have no fear of him returning if you need to goto a bonfire again after the fight.
You’ll notice behind him he was guiding a corpse with an item, pick it up and you’ll get a Fire-Keeper’s Soul. If given to a Fire-Keeper, you can enforce the healing power of your Estus Flask. If you want, head to the elevator shortcut to the left past the stairs, there’s a Fire-Keeper back at he Firelink Shrine, down some stairs near bonfire.
Heading up the stairs there’ll be another Balder Knight, then in the next room you’ll encounter a Channeler, an enemy specializing in magic attacks and support magic for it’s numerous Undead allies in the room. Your best bet on taking these guys down is to lure them out so you can kill them one after the other, otherwise you’ll be completely outnumbered.
Killing the Channeler is much easier than it looks, he has very low defense, both magic and physical, so just avoid his Soul Arrows and spear attacks and you should be fine. If you’re interested in a little exploring, search the area for a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier, and beyond a Balder Knight there’ll be a Humanity.
Don’t leave just yet, if you break the door behind the corpse you’ll meet Knight Lautrec of Carim, you can use the Mystery Key to open his cell. But doing so will activate a quest that after ringing the second bell will kill the Fire-Keeper at the Firelink Shrine, and render it inactive, but it is possible to revive her and get Lautrec’s armor too. So think carefully.
The ladder will lead to the next boss fight, the Bell Gargoyles. Now would be a good time to try out the summon feature. If you are in Human form, you may see white writing on the ground, these are other players or NPCs you can summon into your game to help you out with fights, with no penalties. Confirm it and Solaire of Astoria will fight along side you.
If you want to try it alone, have some Fire based attack ready and get ready for a tough 2 on 1 fight, dodging will be tough as the Bell Gargoyles have very wide attacks, and can also break your guards so try your best to anticipate attacks. When you’re ready head through the light.
Act 1.
Bell Gargoyles
After starting the fight, try to hack at the Gargoyle’s tail, it’ll drop a Gargoyle’s Axe once you chop it off. This can be repeated if you die and chop it again when you return. But be careful as he also uses the tail as another weapon so watch out for that.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
As for the fight itself, dodge as many attacks as you possibly can while blocking the fire breathing attacks. Try to say on his sides where the axe swing can’t reach, having a partner distract him will make this easier for you.
He can also preform powerful jumping attacks, there is a delay so dodge as soon as he comes back down. Take off as much health as you can from the first Gargoyle, when his health gets halfway his buddy will join the fight. Don’t let them both stick around to deal damage, focus on killing one so you can kill the other easier.
If they do they’ll become extremely difficult, they can co-ordinate their attacks and cover the entire screen with swings and fire making it harder to focus on just one. You can also get around them when they’re suck on the ground breathing fire.
Don’t get trapped in any of the corners of the roof as well, they’ll team up and you won’t be able to escape. Also avoid staying close to the edges because you can fall off. Using Fire magic and keeping your will also do great damage to them, but otherwise avoid weapons like Bows or Crossbows because they move too fast and you’ll take damage before you can get a shot.
Once the fights over you’ll get 1500 Souls for your troubles, head towards the bell tower, all thats left now is to climb up the ladders and ring the bell on top. Your next stop is an extended area of the Undead Burg, but the key to it is hidden in an area called the Darkroot Garden, which is located across from Andrei the weaponsmith.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Ring the Bell (Undead Church). Ring Bell of Awakening at Undead Church (15G/Bronze).
Act 2.
Darkroot Garden
Once you’ve made it back to Andrei’s, head through the door opposite of his store. If you don’t have any powerful lighting magic or a Gold Pine Resin, get ready to run fast. A Titanite Demon will be standing in your path to the forest, he’s strong, and even weapons like the Drake Sword will do minimal damage to him unless you have anything lighting based.
Fighting him is rather easy if you have the right gear, he’ll swing his pole at wide angles, and will try to catch and toss you aside with it. Dodge these and his lighting arrow magic attack, which moves very slowly and can hardly turn. He also has a jumping attack where he’ll land and try to impale you with the pole.
Killing him will earn you a Demon Titanite Shard, and possibly a Titanite Catch Pole. After the encounter you’ll end up at the entrance of the Darkroot Forest. You’ll see an Ent as your first enemy, they’re extremely weak against Fire attacks. Just don’t let them get too close, they have a nasty grab attack along with wide and narrow whipping attacks.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Keep walking down the path, head to the right and follow the path but not completely down. There are extremely tough enemies further in that area, just look out for 2 things. A Crystal Lizard, these don’t drop many souls, but they do drop rare and random Titanite. And there should be a corpse with a Leather set of armor, and a Longbow. Collect these and head back.
There’ll be fighting a few more Ents along the way, and one of them will be hiding underground. It’ll be shaped differently than the other plants, and will jump out when you run near it. A Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier will be
You’ll see a strange door after dealing with the Ents, it’s locked with the Crest of Astorias, which you can buy from Andrei for 20,000 Souls. Many Powerful enemies and useful items are beyond that door. But as you are now you don’t stand a chance to take them on. Instead, attack the piles of rubble next to the door to find a hidden entrance to a bonfire.
Continue down the path and cautiously move to the right. There’ll be 3 Ents guarding a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier underground, the minute you pick it up they’ll ambush you so get ready for a fight. Run back out of the clearing and see if you can take them on one after the other.
Pass through the white light at the end of the earlier path. When you enter the forest, Stone Knights will rise up to attack you, they are extremely slow but strong. And can use sorcery called, Tranquil Walk of Peace, and will reduce your movement walking only. This has a long delay so you can use this time to attack. If you kill it you may get it’s Stone Greatsword.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
If you look to your left, keep your eye out for a large tree trunk with odd moving texture. Attack it a few times and it’ll die, opening a hidden path. Proceed on through and there’ll be a red and black lizard like creature you can kill with ease.another Stone Knight will be in your way, and behind him down the path you’ll find a corpse with a Wolf Ring.
Head forward and stay close to the right side of the forest, you should see a corpse with the Elite Knight set, this armor set is a bit slow but has very strong defense and poise. Making it difficult to get staggered. Keep going and you’ll see a door guarded by a Stone Knight, deal with him and head upwards. The stairs will lead you to the Moonlight Butterfly.
Act 2.
Moonlight Butterfly
The Moonlight Butterfly isn’t very difficult if you have the right tools and techniques, it also helps so be able to dodge quickly as many of it’s attacks are ranged. So to prepare for the fight have some range magic, arrows or bolts to get ready for the fight. If you don’t have anything ranged thats alright you can still take it on.
After entering the white light the Moonlight Butterfly will fly slowly towards the side of the bridge, it doesn’t have many close attacks but it cycles from 3 ranged attacks. A scatter shot that spreads in 9 different directions, which is it’s weakest attack but fast. Really though you only have to worry about 3 shots that go downwards.
It’s most difficult attack is the homing shot, it does alot of damage and is difficult to avoid. But it is slow moving so try to dodge it at the right time before it hits you, as it can one shot kill you easily. After a few attacks it’ll tire and rest on the bridge. Don’t stay near for too long, when it’s about to leave it’ll charge a short range radial burst attack.
While you can attack the Moonlight Butterfly with regular weapons, Fire magic does massive damage to it, if you started the game as a Pyromancer, or even if you have skills like Combustion or Fireball will deal great damage to it. Firebombs are also another viable option, but you would wait till it rests so you can use them well.
Other attacks to look out for are a powerful swooping beam that can be easily dodged from any direction, and a bomb attack where it’ll toss a translucent sphere which explodes, and has large range so get away from it as fast as you can. That’s pretty much all it can do. Once you’re done, you’ll get a Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly and 3000 Souls.
The Soul of the Moonlight Butterfly can be used for making either a Horn of the Moonlight Butterfly, a magical spear, or a Crystal Ring Shield. They have unique properties but they have very low durability, and because they are crystal gear they can not be repaired so use them sparingly.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Continue on the path and up the tower, collect a Divine Ember from the petrified weapon smith, and a Watch Tower Basement Key. Give the Divine Ember to Andrei and he’ll be able to ascend your weapons and make them more powerful if you have the materials, and you can use the key to access a new area of the Undead Burg.
Act 2.
Undead Burg Cont.
Head back to where you meet Solaire, there’s a locked door near the bridge, use the key to open it. Head down the stairs then down a long ladder, you’ll come across a spiral staircase. Head up and kill a Undead Archer and keep going, following this path will lead to a short cut that connects to the sewer corridor in the beginning of the Firelink Shrine
A female Undead Merchant also resides at the entrance to this shortcut, she sells many useful but expensive items such as Purging Stones that can cure you of curses, and Transient Curses that allow you to attack Ghost enemies physically. She also sells Fire and Poison Arrows, and Charcoal Pine Resin which adds Fire to weapons.
Head back to the ladder and this time head down the stairs till you see a alley with burning carts. 3 Undead Attack Dogs will try to rush you in the next area, they all carry the Bleed Out status effect when they attack, don’t let them all rush you at once, draw them out one at a time and kill them.
Look for a house with a locked door, if you have either the Master Key or the Residence Key use it and find Griggs. Saving Griggs will allow you to buy new kinds of offensive and support magic at the Firelink Shrine. In the same building you should find a Sorcerer’s Armor set and a Sorcerer’s Catalyst.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all sorceries. (25G/Silver).
if you want to head back and save, look for the flight of stairs behind the flaming pile near the well. This will lead you back to the bonfire in the undead parish, near the area underneath the Firebombing Soldiers. Head out and move carefully down the street, Undead Assassins will jump out at you from the upcoming houses.
They’re not very strong but they’re fast, throw knives, and can cause Bleed Out. Take them out one by one and make sure not to get too far ahead as there’ll be more Undead Attack Dogs that will attack you while you’re trying to kill the Assassins. Search the houses afterwards to find a Leather Armor set and a Target Shield.
Do once last quick sweep of the area, there should be a Large Soul of a Lost Undead at the end of the path down the stairs by the white light. And recover your health and items before going into the light, the Capra Demon up ahead can be extremely difficult if you’re not playing with a friend or NPC.
Its helps to have a shield with high stability like a Balder Shield which can be dropped by the Undead Balder Knights. When you’re ready head beyond the white light.
Act 2.
Capra Demon
The Capra Demon is notorious for being a relentless foe, however with a few tricks we can make this monster easier. For starters as you enter the area, shield yourself. He and his 2 Undead Attack Dogs will launch and attack at you when you arrive. Try to take care of them first as they’ll bite you while you’re trying to attack the Capra Demon.
There’s a staircase at the back of the room, you can use this to your advantage and lure them up the Capra Demon. Jump down near the tree, he’ll follow but it’ll take him time to get back up. You can attack him in this moment, and repeat this until he’s dead.
He’s also weak against fire magic, Pyromancy is highly recommended here. You can also buy a Magic Shield miracle from Grigs at the Firelink Shrine which will help you block his attacks easier, or buy some Charcoal Pine Resin from the Female Undead Merchant and augment your weapon with Fire.
The Capra Demon attacks using both of his swords to preform jumping slam attacks or wide swooping attacks, which are also his most common and will knock you back badly. Having armor with strong Poise or the Wolf Ring can prevent that and maybe even let you heal while you’re getting attacked.
Ultimately, even though dodging may save you some damage, some times you’ll need to take a few hits to lay down some damage on this guy. So it helps to have high defensive and vital stats at this point, because you will get it, so all you can do is try to minimize damage for this fight.
If you do feel like staying back and avoiding damage, you can try to do hit and runs where you just do singular strong attacks and back off to recover stamina and avoid damage. Beating the Capra Demon will give you 1000 Souls and the Key to Depths.
Act 2.
The Depths
The door to The Depths is located at the alley leading to the Large Soul of the Lost Undead, look for a wooden door with 2 torches. Have lots status effect healing items like Poison and Curse before heading in, many enemies inside can hurt you badly with these if you’re not careful.
Head in and down the stairs and take care of the Undead. Some of them in The Depths carry torches which will do massive fire damage, so block their attacks with your shield. Be careful of an Undead Attack Dogs that will try to jump you on your way down. You’ll also encounter a Butcher, he carries 2 weapons, a huge butcher knife and a stick.
He attacks slowly but his butcher knife does wide spread damage, and if you get too close he’ll raise his knife horizontally and slam it into the ground. While his stick he uses for slightly faster attacks. As he is slow, after he strikes you can chip away at his health. Or even get behind him and Backstab him. Another one will be appearing later so remember this.
Collect the items in the area, such as a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier and a Large Ember to give to Andrei. Go down the stairs and through the water, an Undead Attack Dog and a Undead with a torch will be waiting in the water so move carefully with your shield up. Once you’re done head up the pile of broken bricks and into the hole in the wall.
Go left to the room filled with barrels, you’ll find Laurentius of the Great Swamp. Don’t attack the barrels, roll on them to set him free or he’ll attack you. He’ll return to the Firelink Shrine and teach you the art of Pyromancy. Also make sure to kill the second Butcher after this, or Larentius will be killed by him.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
Keep following the hallways, but look up before entering any new areas. The Slimes here will camp on the ceilings and will jump on you if you get directly underneath them. Anything fire-based is the best option to use on these guys, as they have a strong defense against physical attacks. There’ll be one above a corpse with a Soul of a Nameless Soldier.
You can farm them for Large and Green Titanite Shards. There’ll be a Undead guarding a bonfire up ahead but its locked so you’ll have to find the key. You may notice a Giant Undead Rat behind a large cage in the next area, you can get to him from the table where the Butcher was cooking. Smash some barrels and get on the rafters, you can take it out using arrows and magic.
After dropping down you can search the corpse and find a Spider Shield, and slide down the waterfall to the next area. If you didn’t go through here you’ll have to move through the sewers and fight Basilisks. They may be weak but there are a large number of them. And they can all create smoke that curses you, which will kill you instantly and half your max health.
Curses will also stack, so if you already had your health halved it’ll be reduced to a quarter and so on. So buying Purging Curse items from either the Female Undead Merchant or Oswald of Carim in the belltower of the Undead Parish. When you are ready head on in.
You’ll only see a few Undead Rats in the start on the right, kill them and check the body for a Great Axe. Head back and to the left but be careful, as some Rats will hide in crates and sneak attack you. Draw your shield before approaching one to avoid damage. Look for some grating up ahead and you’ll find a corpse with a Sewer Gate Key.
Be on the look out for an Invader called Kirk, Knight of Thorns. Invaders are hostile NPCs that will try to attack you in specific areas. There’s no real way to avoid them, but if you kill them you can get some gear and a large number of souls. While he causes Bleed, his attacks are weak so it shouldn’t be a problem. Also avoid his rolls which do damage.
You can use this key to head back and unlock the door to the bonfire, so if you feel the need head back there and heal. The next area is going to be extremely difficult if you are unprepared. If you chase them you’ll fall into the lower areas that are flooded with the Basilisks. You can roll or run jump over the drains but a good idead to check the sewers, as you’ll also find a great ring called Ring of the Evil Eye, which will slightly recover your health when you kill an enemy
If you get lost just keep looking for stairs going upwards and you’ll find your way back to the second floor. Eventually you’ll make it to the second area leading to the boss. Kill the Slimes and the Undead Rats, and head to the right. You’ll enter a massive arena like area.
A Channeler will be in area, look around and kill him as there will be a boss fight with the Gaping Dragon very soon and he’ll cause problems for you if he’s still alive. If you’re human you’d do well to summon some NPCs for this fight, you’ll need all the help you can get. Also having some Lighting attacks or Golden Pine Resin won’t hurt either.
Walking down the stairs also collect the Heavy Crossbow and Heavy Bolts from the near by corpse. As soon as you’ve healed and prepared your gear head through the white light and face the new boss.
Act 2.
Gaping Dragon
The Gaping Dragon is a boss that is just as terrifying as the damage it can deliver. But if you know where to attack you can make this fight go much easier. He starts the fight trying to ram into you, and then preform either a wide sweeping tail attack, or he’ll raise up his body and try to slam you. Or even follow up one after the other.
There is a delay before he makes his next move after the ram so, you can attack him anyway you can but get out the minute he starts moving. Its good to have alot of speed for this fight as you can easily dodge or run away from many of his attacks. So your armor should be light enough to run around in, but strong enough to reduce heavy damage.
After repeating these tactics for a bit, he’ll introduce a new move, a vomit attack that will reduce your weapons and armor durability to almost nothing. It has an extremely large and wide range, so run away from it quickly. Its also worth mentioning to try and attack the tail, it’ll get cut off and remove his tail attack, and drop a Dragon King Greataxe.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Killing him wil earn you a whopping 25,000 Souls and the Key to Blighttown. The enemies in Blighttown use alot of Poison and Toxin status effects in their attacks, its best to head back to either the Female Undead Merchant or Darkroot Garden and collect some Blooming Purple Moss. As Toxin is harder to shake of than Poison.
When you’re ready head beyond the gate near the boxes and other breakable objects, you’ll also meet Domnhall of Zena, a merchant with some unique items to sell, such as the prized Golden Pine Resin, and some Crystal Weapons. His armor is extremely pricey however, and not really worth buying as you’ll find better armor lying around.
He will however sell armor of certain fallen bosses later on so check back with him later as see what he has. When you’re ready, unlock the gate and climb down the ladder on the left and descend into Blighttown.
Act 2.
Blighttown
Blighttown is filled with many difficult foes, the minute you finish climbing down you’ll be greeted by 3 Infested Barbarians. They are slow but all their attacks are very strong and inflict Poison, you can block the attacks easily but it’ll take off alot of your stamina. You can also parry their attacks but there is an easier way to take them down.
To the right of the first Barbarian, there’ll be a platform underneath the one your standing. You can run and jump down there, the Infested Barbarians will try to follow you and fall to their doom. You’ll also find a Soul of a Proud Knight, but be careful when moving on as you’ll be attacked by 3 Ghouls.
They move erratically and usually in groups, so try to lure them out one at a time. Don’t get too close, they can grab you and bite you to death, but every other attack the have you should be able to easily block. Continue forward and the path will branch out, on the left there is a Iaito katana.
Its on a platform beyond a gap, so wear the lightest armor or none at all and jump across the gap. You should be able to land safety on some platforms under you and continue the path. If you took the right, follow the path and you’ll see another platform. Jump to it and you’ll get some Shadow Armor, which ever way you take you should keep going till you find a bonfire.
If you have the Spider Shield from the last area, equip it, along with the Barbarians, watch out for Blowdart Snipers. They’re difficult to see, but they will shoot darts at you with the Toxin status effect. Its essentially a more potent version of Poison, and its more difficult to shake off as well. So having a good Bow and alot of Arrows can help you here.
Moving forward, to your left there’ll be a Ghoul waiting to ambush you at the next turn, and ahead of him are 2 Flaming Attack Dogs, make sure they don’t burn you with their fire breath while you’re dealing with the Ghoul. Head further down the path and down the ladders, more Ghouls will try to attack you so get of the stairs and get ready for a fight.
You can do a Plunging Attack and get a free hit on him, and make sure that no Ghouls follow you from behind, you should hear their growling when they see you. If you look to your right you should find a path that leads to a dead end and a Eagle Shield.
Head back and down the other ladder, you’ll come across a fork in the road, the right leads to the Power Within Pyromancy and the Parasitic Wall Hugger if you didn’t kill it already. And don’t get to close or it’ll stab you with it’s sharp legs. Instead hang back and pelt it with magic or arrows, it can’t attack you from a distance.
Also adjust your camera angle as well, it may be difficult to see the life bar but you are doing damage to it. Once you grab the magic, head the opposite direction. The next path will have an Infested Barbarian and a Ghoul, draw one out and take them on one at a time.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
The next room head down the ladder, if you look under the platform you’ll see a corpse with a Whip. While its not a powerful weapon, as it is useless against armored enemies. Is it unique with its wide range and can actually be used to parry if equipped to your shield arm. But you have to drop down to it so have some healing before you grab this interesting weapon.
If you fell down you’ll instantly be dropped to the bottom floor, if not then head out and climb the ladders down. A Cragspider will try and attack you, rush in and kill it before it gets the chance. Cragspiders aren’t very difficult, the only attack you need to worry about is a fire breath attack otherwise just don’t let them gang up on you and you’ll be fine.
Also look out for Giant Mosquitos, alone they are weak, but they infinitely respawn and cause poison. Which can cause problems especially at the bottom of the swamp. The mud in the swamp causes constant poison on you, so have high poison defense or at least some healing before trekking through the mud.
You can use the Shadow Armor Set to increase your resistance, there’s also a Wanderer’s Armor Set and a Falchion under the stairs you can grab as well. Follow the right-most wall which will lead to a bonfire in a cave. collect a Large Soul of a Proud Knight on your way there and move into the cave. There’ll be a treasure chest with a Dragon Scale at the end.
You’re close to the boss area now, if you look to the right as you leave the bonfire you’ll see a large white cocoon like structure with tendrils coming out of it. That is the Quelaag’s Domain, inside you’ll have to fight the Chaos Witch Quelaag to gain access to the bell. But for now lets explore the area a bit more and grab some items.
Look out for Maneater Mildred, another Invader, when traversing the swamp. While she does have a powerful Butcher Knife, her defense is low and so is her speed. So just avoid her attacks and lay on the damage. Once she’s gone you’ll be able to summon her for the fight with Quelaag.
Across from the cave in the distance will be a Tattered Cloth Set with a Poison Mist Pyromancy and a Large Soul of a Proud Knight to the upper left of the area. To the far left you’ll see a large tree trunk, to the front left will be a Green Titanite Shard. And behind it a Large Titanite Shard and the greatsword Sever, which will heal you when you kill an enemy.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
The tree will be surrounded by Giant Leeches. They aren’t that bad but there are many of them and cause poison. If you go inside the tree from the front there’ll be a corpse with a Plank Shield. And if you hit the wall furthest away from the entrance will reveal 2 hidden paths. The first one leads to a chest with Twin Humanites
The second behind the chest leads to The Great Hollow, a optional area with fairly easy enemies but is difficult to travel. For now avoid it and head the opposite direction. To the right of the bonfire at the nearest pillar is a Large Soul of a Proud Knight, and to the far left of the swamp will be a Great Club.
Once you’ve finished collecting these items, head towards the Quelaag’s Domain, and pay attention to your right. If your Pyromancy is above level 10, you’ll see a woman dressed in a pure black cloak innfront of one of the pillars you passed. She is Quelaana of Izalith, and if you speak to her enough times you’ll learn that she can teach you powerful Pyromancies.
Quelaana can teach you the most powerful Pyromancies in the game, and she can ascend your natural one to a stronger Pyromancy Flame after it reaches level 15. Outside the cocoon there’ll be 3 Infested Barbarians that will throw Bolders at you, they can also slam them into the ground and roll them. Stay behind them and avoid the bolders, or dash inside and get away.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
Once you enter Quelaag’s Domain, remember that Fire based weapons and offensive Pyromancies will be useless here. But if you got Flash Sweat from Laurentius you can reduce the damage from her attacks. Her attacks are a mix of Fire and Physical based damage so equip gear that protects against both.
On your way to the fight you’ll see Egg Carriers, they’re weak, but they can bite you and infect you with their parasites. Causing a egg-like growth on your head, preventing you from equipping helmets. Once dead they drop roughly 5 Vile Maggots, who can catch you off guard so kill the Egg Carriers one at at time.
If you’re human you can summon Maneater Mildred to aid you in the fight, and use her to distract Quelaag while you do damage. Once you’re ready head on in and take on the Chaos Witch Quelaag, and take care of the second bell.
Act 2.
Chaos Witch Quelaag
Quelaag can be extremely difficult if there’s no one to avert her attention, but you’re also fighting in a very wide area. And considering she frequently lobs lava that does damage over time, you should use it to your advantage. If you feel like you’re being cramped break away and get some distance.
When she sprays lava she’ll usually try to do it when you’re near by. She does project her attacks if you look carefully enough, usually leaning in a particular manner. Along with the spray she has a sword combo, its fast but weak so you can avoid this by blocking or dodging.
Don’t stay on her sides for too long either. She’ll start doing side stomps which will do massive damage and knock you back. And when you see her slump forward over her spider head, get back as far as you can and block. She’s preparing a massive fire blast, which hits all around so its best to not take risks sticking around.
Your best bet on doing damage is attacking like this, when ever she misses and attack it will usually take time for her to maneuver again. Attack then and once she starts the recover hang back. Attacking her behind is also a good way to do some damage, very few of her lava attacks actually are radial like the fire blast.
If you managed to summon Maneater Mildred, she can help take some damage while you attack Quelaag. She has high attack, but low defense so you can use her as a kamikaze fighter in the front who will take the brunt of Quelaag’s damage. Quelaag is also weak against lighting as well, so if you have weapons or Golden Pine-Resin, any use them now.
For winning you’ll get 20,000 Souls and Soul of Quelaag which you can use to forge 2 special weapons. Quelaag’s Fury Sword from Curved blades, a powerful fire blade that gains power the more humanity you have, or the Chaos Blade. It is highly recommended that you forge the Fury Sword as it has one of the highest fire ratings in the game.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Once Quelaag is dead, head up the stairs and pull the level. You’ll have rung the final bell, your next stop is Sen’s Fortress.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Ring the Bell (Quelaag’s Domain). Ring Bell of Awakening in Quelaag’s Domain (15G/Bronze).
Act 3.
Firelink Shrine Revisted
With the last bell rung, the entrance to Sen’s Fortress will open. Its the locked area ahead of the bonfire in the Undead Parish. But before going there are a few places to check out first, head down the stairs and look to the right of the room. There’ll be an illusion wall hiding a bonfire and the Chaos Servant covenant.
The covenant is run by Daughter of Chaos, and her servant Eingyi. However, unless you have the Old Witch’s Ring you can’t understand a word the Daughter of Chaos says. Offer her 30 Humanity and she’ll give you the Great Chaos Fireball and Chaos Storm pyromancies.
Eingyi will also sell you some as well, if you got bitten by the Egg Carries, your head can also get turned into an egg. Afterwards speak to Eingyi and he’ll give you an Egg Vermifuge and sell you the Poison and Toxic Mist pyromancies.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
Now on to the Firelink Shrine. There’s a shortcut from Blighttown, that is to the left of the entrance to the Quelaag’s Domain and cuts through a few areas. You’ll see a large water wheel, walk up the wooden platforms and climb the ladder. You can use it as an elevator to reach the upper area.
Once you’re there, follow the path up the ladder. But don’t continue up, follow the path to the left past a Cragspider. Follow the path beyond a root bridge, but keep on the look out for more Blowdart Snipers.
Once you get to the end they’ll be a Cragspider guarding a corpse with a Crimson Set, a great set for magic defense. And a Tin Banishment Catalyst, a more physical weapon for mages. Inside the chest will be the greatest boon to you, a Remedy Sorcery, and will help you recover from status effects.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all Sorceries. (25G/Silver).
Continuing back up the path, head right again once you reach the top of the next ladder. At the next ladder near a Blowdart Sniper there’s an alcove with alot of items. Unfortunately its filled with Blowdart Snipers and Flaming Attack Dogs.
Get whatever protection you have ready and head in. Kill any Blowdart Snipers with arrows or magic, they aren’t strong but they shoot darts very quickly. The head left through some breakable objects to find a corpse with a Soul of a Proud Knight, protected by a Blowdart Sniper.
Once you’re done killing all the Snipers on the first floor, head to the back of the room and climb down but be careful. 7 Flaming Attack Dogs are waiting for you at the bottom. You’ll be greeted by 3 of them when you reach the bottom. Don’t let them gang up on you. Try to take them on one by one, or with as few as possible.
Head right and find 2 more guarding a Firekeeper Soul, and 2 at the opening of the alcove. Thats all the items here so head back the way you came and climb up the ladder. Look to your right to find a Key to New Londo Ruins, this will allow you to access a shortcut back to the Firelink Shrine.
To your left you’ll see a cave out, but inside there are 3 Infested Barbarians. If you don’t feel like killing them personally, you can draw them out of the cave. And as they leave the entrance, climb back down the ladder. They’ll try to chase you but fall to their doom instead, this will work on all 3 so have fun with it.
Past the 3 Infested Barbarians you’ll enter the Valley of the Drakes. It is highly advised to stay away from the main area, as it is filled with numerous dragons who are way beyond your current level. If you are interested there are 2 unique items near by, but getting them will very likely get you killed unless you have some powerful ranged equipment like a Dragonslayer Bow.
The items are a Straight Sword of Astoria, Grass Shield, and a Soul of a Proud Knight. But they’re being guarded by an Undead Dragon, and the minute you pick them up he’ll wake up and kill you with either a few swipes from his claws or his toxin breath. The sword and shield are worth it though, so try revisiting this place later or do suicide run.
Inside the tower as you climb the stairs you’ll reach the entrance of New Londo Ruins. You’re not ready for this area as it’s filled with Darkwraiths and Ghosts. Who can only be killed when you are Cursed by a Transient Curse item or use a special weapons. So stay near the entrance of the area and collect the surrounding items.
To the right of where you entered, there’ll be a staircase heading down leading to a man behind bars. He’s a weapon smith named Rickert of Vinhiem, and he specializes in Magic and Enchanted weapons. He sells some magic spells too, but only a Soul Arrow and a Heavy Soul Arrow.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all Sorceries. (25G/Silver).
Head back and to your right, then take another right and you’ll see a corpse with an Estoc. Then another laying on the ground with 2 Transient Curses. Don’t cross the bridge or you’ll head further in, head back and inside the remaining tower. On your way up the stairs you’ll find another corpse with a Soul of a Nameless Soldier.
Look carefully before entering the final room, the elevator may not be in there and you might fall in a hole and die by accident. There should be a lever near by that you can use to summon the elevator if its not already down. Hop in and you’ll make it back to the Firelink Shrine, where you’ll find a new friend waiting for you.
Once you’ve reached the shrine, head to the room before the graveyard. A large reptilian creature named Kingseeker Frampt, say yes and he will tell you about your purpose. And how you must travel beyond Sen’s Fortress to reach Anor Londo and collect the Lord’s Vessel.
Frampt will also take any unwanted items you have and trade them for souls. Not to mention he’ll also take any larger pieces of Titanite you may have and reduce it to 5 smaller units, allowing you to level up weaker weapons easier. Once you’re done here, head back to the Undead Parish to take on Sen’s Fortress.
Its also worth mentioning that if you had freed Lautrec he’ll have killed Anastasia, the firekeeper at the shrine. So this will make travelling a bit difficult as the shrine acts as a nexus between all the areas.
But if you can find Lautrec at Anor Londo and kill him, you can revive her. Once you’re ready make your way to Sen’s Fortress from the Undead Parish.
Act 3.
Sen’s Fortress
Before you enter the fortress, have some equipment that can defend against and deal lighting damage. The Serpent Soliders and Serpent Mages are weak against lighting, but the mages can also use it so it’ll save you some hurt if you have protection.
The fortress is filled with traps, even from the minute you enter there’ll be a pressure plate right infront of you that will fire 3 deadly arrows. However, these traps can be used to your advantage, there will be 2 Serpent Soliders behind the farthest pillars.
Lure them out of the fortress without triggering the plate, then once they line up press the plate. The arrows will fire behind them and deal alot of damage, maybe even killing one if all the arrows connect. If you have a spear you can also defend yourself and attack while they try to swing at you.
Afterwards head in and left, you’ll enter a large open room filled with guillotines swinging back and forth across a narrow bridge. These can be easily traversed if you pay close attention to the timings of each guillotine. And look on the ground for blood or cracks in the path, as these will indicate the exact spot the guillotines pass over.
Keep your shield up while moving across, a Serpent Mage will also attack you with lighting magic from a path above you. If you move through to the middle he won’t be able to hit you, but bear in mind there is another Serpent Solider across from you. Have him come to you instead, he should get knocked off the bridge by the guillotines.
Once you’ve passed the guillotines, there is a optional lower area you can explore as well but its covered in tar and is protected by 4 Prowling Demons. To get down here fall down from the end of the bridge to where 3 Serpent Mages are waiting, kill them and fall down again.
If you bought Fall Control sorcery from Grigs you can negate any fall damage you may have gotten here. The tar also makes it extremely difficult to dodge, so unless you have a Rusted Iron Ring you’re going to have problems here. Inside a tunnel behind where you fell from will be a Scythe and a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
If you need to leave, head the opposite end of the room and look for a staircase, this will lead to a ladder leading back upstairs and a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. But you’ll have to go through the guillotines again as well. If you wish to ignore the lower area, continue up the stairs to the left of the bridge.
You’ll see another bridge and the Serpent Mage who was shooting at you earlier, if you can try to take him out from a distance. Or if you’re skilled enough block the damage and get in close but its riskier as you’ll be putting yourself in the path of the guillotines.
The next room will have a chest with 2 Large Titanite Shards in it, but be careful the minute you enter the room you’ll trigger a plate and 3 arrows will fire at you so get ready to dodge or block them. There’s also another Serpent Solider under a bridge in the next area sleeping against a wall.
But don’t bother dealing with him now, there’s an easier way to kill him later on. Instead carefully move forward and another Serpent Solider will try to attack you, only to be killed by a large boulder. Unfortunately though this is the same path you must take to get higher, and there are more paths like this up ahead so make speed a priority.
Climb up the ramp and make a left as soon as you see a door to your left, it is worth mentioning to come back to this area when you have disabled the boulders, as there is a Ring of Steel Protection. Its a great item that reduces physical damage 50%, its in the room above the stairs, and there’s a Shotel on a ledge you can drop from near the entrance to the same room.
Before moving on, try to catch the attention of the Serpent Solider in the next room by, either making noise and hit the walls, or visually angle yourself so you’ve visible from the current room. There is another plate on the ground that will trigger more arrows behind you as you try to move forward. Doing this will get the Serpent Solider killed instead.
The next staircase has more boulders and a large number of them as well, so run downwards or drop over the ledge and make another left into a safe room. If you wait long enough the boulders will fill up a hole in the ground. Then break the wall where you can find a Covetous Gold Serpent Ring that will greatly increase your item drop rate.
In the next room you’ll notice a treasure chest, do not open it. This is the first Mimic of the game, and will bite and chomp on you if you open it. Take this chance to get a free hits on it. The best way to deal with it is to lock-on and use hit-and-run tactics, if you get too close it’ll try to bite you again and do massive damage.
Once it’s dead you’ll get a Lighting Spear, this is an extremely useful weapon. Even more so than the Drake Sword we found earlier, many enemies are weak against lighting, and because its a spear you can protect yourself while you deal damage. Its also a good idea to upgrade it as much as you can to make it more potent.
In the same room there will be a nook in the wall with an elevator in it, ride the elevator up and immediately get off at the next floor. If you stay on for too long you’ll be stabbed by spikes in the ceiling. Climb the stairs and cross the bridge, you should see a smaller staircase leading down to the ramp under you.
Climb up and you’ll see a lever that will allow you to change the direction of the falling boulders, the hole in the wall that leads outside will prevent them from going down any other paths. However if you turn the lever so the boulders fall down the ramp you were on earlier, they will hurt the sleeping Serpent Soldier you saw earlier and break open a new area.
Down the stairs and past the broken wall will be rows of hanging cages, you’ll find a wizard named Big Hat Logan trapped in one near the end of the path. He’ll ask you to help him escape, if you do he’ll teach you more advanced sorceries back at the Firelink Shrine. So helping him is a good idea, you can buy the key of a merchant in the higher area of the fortress.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all Sorceries. (25G/Silver).
There’s also a Soul of a Hero in another cage but thats locked too, head back up and this time into a corridor close to the large hole that leads outside. A pressure plate will be waiting to trigger more arrows that will shoot out from the side of the room. Trigger the trap but don’t go any further, once they’re done head forward and to the left.
Now to your right will be another bridge with more guillotines, they’re extremely close together so the best way to get past them is to time it right and the minute guillotines stop making contact with the bridge dash across. Now in this area there are 2 Serpent Soldiers and a Serpent Mage, you need to handle this carefully though or they’ll ambush you.
Take out the one on the right first, then climb up the stairs on your left and kill the mage. Then head back down and kill the last one around the corner. Behind him will 2 Large Titanite Shards, take them and head back up the stairs. Another and more narrow bridge will be up ahead, along with another Serpent Mage to your left.
If you can’t take him out now, he’ll make this already difficult walk even worse. As you get closer to the opposite side you’ll see 4 guillotines, they look impossible but look carefully. They are 2 sets of 2 guillotines, if you look carefully there’s a gap after the first 2. Do a quick dash to avoid the first 2 then stop, then dash again and you should make it.
Watch the floor for 2 pressure plates to your left and right, they’re different from the previous ones. Not only do they shoot 3 arrows from your right, but pressing the other will re-activate the trap and fire more. If you head towards the hole in the wall where the arrows fire from and fall down the hole in the floor you can find a Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring.
But that will take you far down so remember to use Fall Control if you can. Head up the stairs and outside, follow the right path for a Flame Stoneplate Ring in a chest, which is guarded by 2 Undead Balder Knights. This will increase your fire resistance so equip it before you head up.
In this area equip any fire and physical protect you may have. If you look around you can see black patches all over the ground, these are areas where large boulders will be dropped and will do massive fire damage to you so avoid standing there for too long.
Head up the second staircase, if you need to save and heal head to the right and fall from the cracked wall to your right, there’ll be a bonfire underneath you can rest at. Climbing up the next staircase you’ll also see another optional path to the right, there’s a Heavy Knight who respawns that you can farm items and souls from.
To the left and up a ladder will be a path to 2 great items, a Divine Blessing and a Rare Ring of Sacrifice. But they are guarded by Undead Prince Richard. He’s similar to the Undead Balder Knights, he uses a rapier and parrying as his main fighting style. So don’t attack needlessly, wait until after he attacks then strike, or try parrying his attacks instead.
Back at the fork you took, head up the stairs and across the bridge. To your left there is a gap in the bridge leading to a tower, you can run and jump across and find the Crestfallen Merchant who will sell you very powerful weapons and armor. He also sells upgrading items and rings that will increase defense against spells and lighting so definitely drop by.
Also if you look around near by you should find a chest with a Cage Key, this is what you need to unlock Big Hat Logan’s cell. You can also use this to open a shortcut between the upper and lower areas as well so grab it. If you’re interested you can also fall down to the left of the entrance and find a Sniper Crossbow and some Sniper Bolts.
Now take the right path instead at the bridge and head inside a corridor with a Undead Balder Knight to your left. There’s nothing else over there though so head right and inside the tower instead. As you enter the new room you’ll see a hanging cage suspended above a hole in the ground, use the Cage Key here and you can access the shortcut back to the entrance.
Walk past the hole and up more stairs, follow the path which will lead you to a Elite Undead Archer. Who can easily be killed and drops a good amount of souls too. You’re close to the boss, but if you like you can also take out the Giant who has been tossing boulders at you if you climb up the final stair case.
The Giant is extremely tough, and attacks extremely quickly. He’ll try to stomp at you if you get near his feet, and he’ll just rush you with flurry of fist pounds. But he does have a weakness, once he’s done attacking he’ll take a minute or two to rest.
Use this time to deal out massive damage, then get ready to block and dodge his attacks and repeat till he’s dead. Head back down and get ready for the Iron Golem. He’s weak against fire so have some Pyromancy ready, there’s also a quick and easy way of killing him if you fast enough so get the best weapon out.
Some of his attacks can break your guard easily so either really buff up or dodge as much as you can without falling off.
Act 3.
Iron Golem
Avoid fighting the Iron Golem head on, it is extremely tough and can break through your guard easily. Try to dodge around as much as you can without falling off. His axe swing and slam attacks do massive damage, the swing can even create a wind projectile and take you out at range.
Your best bet is to get in close and stab his heals, but beware as he gets more agressive once you get that close. And will switch between these four attacks, multiple ground stomps that have short range but are very fast. A sweeping kick if you are behind him, and axe attack that lands between his legs.
His worst attack of all is the grab, its start slow but move fast. And once he’s got you its too late, and you can easily get knocked off the platform and die instantly. But there is a way to do the same to him in a way. Right at the beginning of the fight he starts from a very thin walkway, this is where you’ll start.
As mentioned before his greatest weakness’ are his heels, and if you hit them enough he’ll keel over. So right in the beginning of the fight, dodge his swing attack and rush in before he can move from that spot. Then start hacking away at his legs while avoiding all his attacks, keep attacking and he’ll start to keel.
Then once he starts to keel over hit him as many times as you can, he’ll finally lose his balance and fall to his doom. Netting you a easy victory over a tough enemy. He’ll drop 30,000 Souls and a Core of an Iron Golem that you can use to make the Golem’s Greataxe, or a Dragon Bone Fist.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
A ring of light will appear in the middle of the arena, touch it and 3 Bat Wing Demons will whisk you away to Anor Londo. Congratulations you’re almost to the halfway point, keep some fire and lighting weapons handy as both will be needed for this next area.
Act 3.
Anor Londo
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Reach Anor Londo. Arrive in Anor Londo (25G/Silver).
Anor Londo will possibly be one of the must frustrating levels in the game, its riddled with very powerful enemies, who are positioned at places that are advantageous to them only. You’ll notice the Sentinels as you walk downstairs, these large golden monsters won’t hurt you, yet. Instead of needlessly attacking them now wait until you get to the near by bonfire first.
Walk past the large room with 2 Sentinels and head outside again, then you will see a small corridor to your left. Walk down the stairs and you’ll find a bonfire and Lady of the Darkling, the local firekeeper, so here’s a good spot to rest. Now heading back outside again, to where you entered from guarded by the 2 Sentinels is a chest with a Demon Titanite
To your right there is another room where 2 more Sentinels are guarding a chest each, the right one will be guarding a Mimic though who will drop a Crystal Halberd, the real chest on the left has a Twinkling Titanite inside it. When dealing with any of the Sentinels take them out one by one if you can’t, taking 2 at a time is far do difficult.
They make wide swings with their halberds and they have a nasty shield pound that can break your guard, if you still have the Lighting Spear use it here, as they’re weak against lighting. The path beyond this room is blocked so head back and head to the balcony opposite the bonfire. There is a balcony with a large hole in it, wait a bit and an elevator will rise up.
Once you make it to the bottom, walk down the spiral staircase and get ready for a fight, a new Gargoyle will attack you on your way out. You can use the same tactics as last time but this one actually uses lightning breath and is strong against lightning as well. But you can use fire instead, also if you missed the Gargoyle’s Axe earlier you can get one here.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
The path ahead stops at a cliff you can’t jump across, instead head back and around the tower you entered from and climb up the outside stairs. You’ll find a Demon Titanite in a chest behind the tower, then head back to the start of the stairs. If you look to your left, there’s a beam that leads into a church like location. This is how you’ll get across.
From the platform at the base of the stairs fall down on the beam, then continue up till you should see a balcony with a broken window to your right. Run and jump to the balcony and step into the window, where inside you’ll find 3 Painting Guardians. They’re not particularly hard to kill but they are fast and they will try to backstab you so watch your back.
They’ll also try to gang up on you and throw knives, so take them on one at a time. Then climb up the near by ladder and carefully walk across the struts. 3 more Painting Guardians will be waiting up top but let them come to you, or you can try to shoot them from a distance with arrows or magic.
Once you make it halfway, if you look down there will be a chandelier with a corpse on it. Break the chain and it will come crashing down, and later you can collect the Great Magic Weapon sorcery. Keep walking and climb down the ladder, at the opposite side of the church there is a chest with a Divine Blessing.
You can actually get there from here, if you can land on the pedestal infront of the large 3 statues you can then jump in between the columns. From there you just have to climb the stairs and kill a Painting Guardian and collect it from the chest. If you want to head back, from the chest fall back onto the same pedestal and head through the columns on the opposite side.
Once you’re back to the ladder, head through the light. Ahead of you is a lever that you can rotate, which will raise and lower the platform and make a path across the earlier dead end and grant you access inside Anor Londo. You can also now safely reach the lower half of the church as well.
Follow the stairs on the platform down after you’ve lowered it, follow the path and you’ll make it back inside the church. There are 10 Painting Guardians here though, so don’t rush in or you’ll be surrounded. Pick them off with arrows and magic and lure them to you one by one.
Once they’re all dead, you can finally collect the Great Magic Weapon sorcery. And if you look to the left of the large painting there is a corpse with a Black Iron set of armor, a Greatsword, and a Black Iron Greatshield.
These are extremely useful items for dealing and protecting against physical damage. But they’re heavy so have high equipment load before using these.
The large painting the end of the room is actually a entrance to an optional area which we will be covering later. You do not have the Peculiar Doll needed to enter, and its located all the way back at the Undead Asylum.
And there are some new and powerful enemies there so this will give you some time to level up before then. Head back to the rotating platform and head straight for the large double doors.
If you look to the right and left of the castle you’ll see several Bat Wing Demons. Some you can actually trick here into falling if shoot them with arrows and have them fall off the ledges.
As you climb the stairs 2 Sentinels will attack you when you get close enough, there staircase will make this fight even worse so try to lure them down and then hit them from above. Once you’re done head left, and get lightning protection and pyromancy ready. If you couldn’t take out 1 then you’ll have to deal with 3 Bat Wing Demons.
They are very weak against divine weapons, but unless you have the Straight Sword of Astoria or some other divine weapon, fire will have to be your primary weapon here.
They will fire lightning at your and try to stab you with their spears, all of their attacks are lighting based so you need equipment with high lighting resistance or you’ll still take on damage.
And they have a similar fighting style to the Gargoyles as well so you can use that as a baseline. Once they’re all dead, head left and down the stairs.
But get a tough shield up and ready and run as fast as you can, Silver Knights will be firing huge Dragonslayer Arrows from Greatbows.
Getting hit by these arrows won’t just do massive damage but they can knock you right off the small bridges and ledges if you’re not careful. This is probably toughest part of Anor Londo, and you will die alot in this area so it’s wise to use up your souls before doing this part.
There will be 2 more Bat Wing Demons when you reach the other side, and to make things worse the Sliver Knights can still attack you there. So you either have to kill them quickly while dodging the arrows, or just run left and reach the next building as fast as you can for cover.
Once you’ve made it you’ll be behind a tower with both of the Silver Knights waiting for you. The best advice I can give, is to increase your poise and defense high enough and run up and to the right. Then take out the Silver Knight as fast as you can, if you can kick him off then even better.
The opposite direction with the other Silver Knight leads to a corpse with a Soul of a Hero, so if you want to risk taking out another one then go for it. Otherwise prioritize leaving this area quickly, and turn the corner to find a balcony you can fall to and get inside.
You’re safe for now, head to the left room quickly and use the bonfire because there are more enemies waiting for you inside. In the bonfire room you should meet Solaire again if you spoke to him at the Undead Parish. So if you need to you can summon him in this area to back you up.
In the room to your right will be a Silver Knight guarding a chest with 3 Sunlight Medals. You can use lighting or fire against the Silver Knights.
Their fighting style is similar to the Black Knights you saw earlier in the Undead Parish, but are weaker. So use whatever you have on then, killing one can nab you their Silver Knight Straight Sword or Shield.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Sunlight Medals are used for Solaire’s covenant, Warrior of Sunlight. You can only access it though from the area behind the Hellkite Dragon back in the Undead Burg. Offer these to his covenant and you’ll get Miracles exclusive to his covenant. Head back into the halls, there are still some great items to grab so go behind the staircase.
There will be a Silver Knight and 2 more rooms. The right one is locked so head in the left, inside there will be a large fireplace, hit the wall and it will reveal a hidden passage.
Head down the stairs to find 4 treasure chests and a Mimic.Remember to attack all of them before opening and kill the Mimic, inside they all have pieces of the Havel’s Armor set.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
They are extremely heavy but are possibly the best armor in the game, and a Dragon Tooth. A powerful but also heavy Greathammer with high durability and raises fire and magic defense by 20 points.
The Mimic will also drop an Occult Club, once you’re done here leave the room and head back the spiral staircase back in the main corridors.
If you look around the second floor you’ll see 2 more Mimics. One will drop 5 Silver Coins and the other has a Gold Coin. These coins have no real purpose other than to be sold later to Kingseeker Frampt or Darkstalker Kaathe for Souls, so hold on to them.
Now for the remaining rooms, the 2 front rooms ahead are only balconies with no access to the lower areas. The one on the left however has a Soul of a Hero guarded by a Silver Knight.
Grab that and head to the back of the second floor where there is a balcony where a Silver Knight will be firing Dragonslayer Arrows at you. The room to your right will be locked from the other side, and the balcony leads no where so head to the left door instead.
Enter the room, the next door will have a Silver Knight waiting to ambush you. Don’t let him get the drop on you so block or dodge his attack before he scores a free hit. Once you’re done climb up the stairs but be careful, 2 Silver Knights will be waiting for you in the next area.
One is in the tower on the opposite side of where you exit, the other is to your far right. You can try to shoot an arrow at the Silver Knight ahead of you, and lure him down into the previous area and take him on like that.
Or you can mad dash to the Silver Knight on the right, and angle yourself so the Silver Knight in the tower can’t shoot you.
Once they’re dead head down the other tower, and you’ll see Siegmeyer again.
He’s stumped because he wants to go into the next room but there are 3 Silver Knights blocking his way. Do him a favor and clear out the room, one lure them away from the others and kill them one by one. Just make sure you don’t accidentally attack Siegmeyer while you’re doing this.
Talk to him again and he’ll give you a Tiny Being’s Ring. There is also a chest in the room with 2 Demon Titanites so you definitely want to pick those up. The door at the end of the room also can be unlocked from here and gives you access back to the earlier corridors of the castle.
Head back to the roof and proceed through the last staircase, this will lead you to 3 paths. The right door leads back down to a locked room where you can reach the bonfire again.
There are 2 Silver Knights on the way done, one will be guarding a chest with a Silver Knight set so you can grab that on your way back if you like and unlock the room from this side.
The room on your right will lead to a Prowling Demon, so if you feel lucky you can take him on for some souls. The path ahead will lead to the hall before the final boss fight, as well as a shortcut and other goodies. Once you’ve past the stairs you’ll be attacked by a Silver Knight, there’s another one on the opposite side of the hall as well so watch it.
The hall below will be guarded by 2 Royal Sentinels, they fight the same way the regular Sentinels do but they can preform a powerful shockwave attack so don’t stay close for too long.
Once they’re gone head to the large double doors and the far end of the hall. Look to the left of the door and you’ll see a lever you can pull that will let you access outside.
If you have the Black Eye Orb when you enter the area it will start to resonate, this will allow you invade Lautrec’s world. But clear out all the enemies here first or they’ll swarm you while you’re trying to leave, when you do enter his world you’ll have to fight him along with a Sorcerer and a Knight.
Take out the Sorcerer first, he may drop a Catalyst weapon, and then deal with the Knight or Lautrec. If you’re having problems taking out all of them, just remember that all you have to do is kill Lautrec and you’ll get back Anastasia’s soul and 5 Humanity. Remember that you can’t use any other firekeeper soul to revive her as well.
The next boss fight will be through the white light, but before hand there are a few things you’ll want to pick up before hand. Head up the staircase on the opposite side, and follow it to a broken window.
You’ll find a corpse with a Dragonslayer Greatbow a Dragonslayer Arrow. Now you have a way of delivering powerful attacks at range.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Fall off onto the platform under you and you’ll have to fight 3 Bat Wing Demons, if you don’t feel like dealing with them you can either run to your left through a previously locked door and unlock it from this side. Or you can run right and meet the Giant Blacksmith.
The Giant Blacksmith here is the only weapon smith who can forge weapons from Boss Souls. So if you still have Quelaag’s Soul and such you can make them here. He can also ascend weapons with lighting and crystal attributes, and sells the powerful Dragonslayer Arrows.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
And there is a Hawk Ring which will increase your arrow range, but its behind the Giant Blacksmith so inorder to open it you have to kill him. Its not recommended but if it suits your play style then you know where it is. He fights in the same way the earlier Giant did so you should be in familiar territory
Once you’re done here do any final preparations like refilling your Estus Flasks. Get any fire based offensive equipment, physical and lightning defensive gear you can get. And if try to summon a Phantom if you can, Solaire’s sign should be on the staircase left of the white light if you need him. You’ll be fighting 2 bosses at once this time.
Act 3.
Dragon Slayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough
This fight is without exaggeration is one of the most difficult ones in the game. You’re fighting 2 bosses at once, Dragon Slayer Ornstien uses strong and fast lighting and spear attacks. Executioner Smough is slow but wide and powerful slams and ramming attacks.
Worst of all is once you kill one, the other will gain his power and become even deadlier. Not only does this force you to focus on one boss but you’ll be forced to fight the other boss at max strength plus extra afterwards.
Which is why its highly recommended to have summoned a Phantom so they can be dealt with one-on-one. Fire will also be extremely effective here, so Pyromancy and other fire skills and weapons will give you an edge in this fight.
If you want this fight to go easier focus on Ornstien, he separates from Smough often. But if you don’t have that option then you can deal with Smough first and while dodging and blocking Ornstien’s attacks. Either way we’ll be covering both outcomes here.
Dealing with Ornstien can be tricky, he’s fast but he takes some time to recover after his attacks. His 3 starting moves are a wide 4-hit spear combo, a lighting bolt and a lunging stab. The combo is easy to block, so once he’s pulling his spear away you can dash in and get a hit on him.
The lighting bolt starts out slow but moves fast, so either get behind the pillars to block it or dodge it all together. Lastly is his lunging stab, is starts fast but ends slow. It is possible to block and dodge this attack so once he’s done and Smough isn’t attacking you get in and attack.
Smough will be a tougher to deal with because of his size and power. He commonly uses a ramming attack which is difficult to avoid. It can track you if you try to dodge to the side, if you don’t avoid it he’ll smack you away with his hammer. So you best bet to dodge this is to just try to outrun him forward.
After he swings he’ll be open so attack before he starts up again. He’ll also try to crush you with his hammer, but this attack is very slow so you can quickly get behind him and deal damage before he can attack. Smough also has a ground pound attack that can be blocked but it’s better to avoid it so you can save your stamina for attacks.
Lastly he has a wide hammer swing, which you can block but it’ll either take alot of stamina or your guard will break. So try to roll under it instead. Once you understand how they attack it will be easier to avoid getting hit while you’re trying deal damage.
If you beat Ornstien first he’ll drop a Lion Ring, Smough won’t drop anything so thats another reason to try killing Ornstien first. So as mentioned earlier, killing one will strength the other. This entails that Ornstien will Smough’s strength and size, while Smough will gain lighting powers. Either way you’re in for a rough ride.
Ornstien will gain 3 extra attacks in his larger form, a jump attack that will either result in a slam or a stab. Either way try to dodge these as much as possible, they’re difficult to block and he doesn’t slow down as much now that he’s stronger.
Next is a lighting ground pound attack, that starts with him flying into the air and comes back crashing down and creates a lighting blast. Its like Smough’s ground pound, but its better to just back away to avoid lighting damage than block it.
His worst attack is his impalement attack. He’ll charge his spear and stab you with it, then charge you with lighting and toss you away. If you see him charging, just run or dodge the attack. Its unblockable and does massive damage, and once it connects you can’t escape.
Smough’s tactic’s won’t change much, he’ll still be slow but add lightning to his attacks. He also gets a lightning ground pound from powering up as well. And regardless of which form you fight, they’ll still retain their earlier weakness to fire and only get slower as they power up. So if you act fast and strike after they attack you should be able to take them down.
In the end you’ll get 30,000 souls and the Soul of Ornstein or Soul of Smough depending on which one you killed last. These can be use to create the Dragonslayer Spear and Smough’s Hammer respectively, once you’re done here turn left or right and up the elevator.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
You’ve almost made it to the end of Anor Londo, turn left or right and ride the elevator up. Remember this balcony area, after returning Anastasia’s soul to her body you can return here and find Lautrec’s armor here with a Ring of Divine Protection and Favor.
Use the bonfire and head through the double doors, where you’ll meet Gwynevere, Princess of Sunlight. Speak to her and she’ll tell you that you need to kill her father Gwyn and surpass him. She’ll hand you the Lordvessel, and tells you to speak to Kingseeker Frampt.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Lordvessel. Acquire the Lordvessel (25G/Silver).
While you’re here you can also join her covenant, Princess Guard as well. This convent specializes in online play, and will help you find players from this convenant easier. And will allow you to cast the, Bountiful Sunlight and Soothing Sunlight miracles that you’ll find later in the game.
At his point you can choose to either continue on with the story or explore some extra areas for some items and more, the next areas and bosses will all be optional.
If you want to continue the story, skip to Darkroot Garden Cont. Otherwise continue the guide to the Painted World of Ariamis, The Great Hollow and the Ash Lake.
Also if you do not want to give Kingseeker Frampt the Lordvessel. Hold on to it for now and instead go to New Londo Ruins before anything else.
Darkstalker Kaathe, the NPC in New Londo Ruins who will tell you a different side of the story. And can provide you similar services like warping you to the Firelink Shrine and etc.
Having the Lordvessel will allow you to transport between bonfires who are near a firekeeper. This will make travelling to the next areas much easier, but if you have killed a firekeeper, that warp point will disappear so keep that in mind.
The next 4 story related bosses can be done in any order, so take your pick. But I recommend this path for beginners, The Catacombs and Tomb of the Giants, New Londo Ruins, Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith, and lastly the Duke Archives and Crystal Caves.
Act 4.
Dark Sun Gwyndolin
Dark Sun Gwyndolin is an optional covenant and boss you can fight in Anor Londo, he can only be accessed with a Darkmoon Seance Ring found in the Catacombs.
If you take the rotating elevator that was missing earlier on in Anor Londo and send it all the way down you’ll find another bonfire and a large statue, equip the ring and the statue will disappear. If it doesn’t work the first time use the bonfire and it should work.
There’s also a corpse to the left of the statue with a Ring of the Sun’s Firstborn, which will increase miracle potency by 20%. You’ll see a prayer mat infront of a door with white light, kneel when Gwyndolin asks you to and you can join his covenant.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Covenant: Blade of the Darkmoon. Discover Covenant: Blade of the Darkmoon covenant (25G/Silver).
This covenant specializes in PvP fights with people who have betrayed the other covenants, killing them will earn you a Souvenir of Reprisal. Which if you can trade in 10 will grant you the Darkmoon Talisman and Darkmoon Blade miracle. Handing in more will increase the miracle’s power.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
However, if you cross the light you’ll initiate a fight with Gwyndolin. So if you’re ready for a fight then step through the white light. Gwyndolin will trap you in a never-ending corridor, and attack you with powerful long range magic attacks.
Equip any magic defensive gear you have, with a strong shield and weapon. Magic won’t really do much here so you’ll have to get close and strike. He cycles through 3 attacks, a large orb of soul mass, small but many homing soul masses, and a rapid-fire arrow attack.
His attacks do alot of damage but they can easily be dodged, take the large soul mass for example. Its his worst attack but you can see Gwyndolin charge it up, and dodge it by casually dodging or hiding behind the pillars.
The homing soul masses can be dodged in a similar fashion, but there are alot more so you might want to keep your shield up just incase. And the arrows are the weakest, which can be easily dodged and blocked for minimal stamina.
Once you’re close in, start hacking away at him before he disappears. You can still attack him when he’s warping away so don’t let up until he leaves. Keep this up and he should go down easily.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Defeat Dark Sun Gwyndolin, the Darkmoon God (25G/Silver).
You’ll get 40,000 souls and Gwyndolin’s Soul, you can use it to create a Darkmoon Bow or a Tin Darkmoon Catalyst. Once he’s dead, head to the end of the room.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
There’ll be 2 treasure chests at the end of the hall, one has a set of Brass armor. The other has a miracle, Sunlight Blade, which adds lightning damage to your weapon.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
Act 4.
Painted World of Ariamis
In order to enter the painting, you need to head back to the Northern Undead Asylum and grab the Peculiar Doll from the cell you started from. Head back to the Firelink Shrine, and head up the elevator that leads to the Undead Parish. As you ride it you’ll see a platform that you can reach.
So while the elevator is moving either up or down, walk ahead and you should land on it. Then to your left will be a ledge you can walk to, and under that a stone pillar.
Remove as much weight as you can for this next bit, then run and jump on to the pillar and walk up the stone beams into the open door.
Once you climb up the stairs, you’ll see a corpse with a Undead Asylum F2 West Key. If you couldn’t unlock the door earlier with a Master Key you can do that now, but you’ll have to land perfectly on the roof of the building to get it. Otherwise you’ll have to try it again.
Follow the path and you should see a large crow’s nest. When prompted curl into a ball and wait, the crow that took you from the Asylum to here will take you back. This will create a permanent path to the Asylum and the Firelink Shrine.
The asylum has changed since you came back, you’ll be greeted by 4 Undeads, 2 of them are carrying torches so make sure they don’t burn you. They’re also tougher than the ones you first met as well so don’t think this will be easy.
Head through the double doors and inside, but avoid the spot where the Asylum Demon first appeared. The floor will crumble under your feet and you’ll have to fight the Stray Demon. Worse of all the fall will hurt you badly if your health and defense aren’t high enough.
The Stray Demon isn’t part of the side quest, but he’ll drop a Titanite Slab and 20,000 Souls for the effort so it is worth considering if you’re on a high level. When dealing with him first heal at the bonfires near by so you don’t start from the Firelink Shrine.
If you have Fall Control use it before you start the fight so you don’t take damage right away. Also equip any fire resistant equipment, and a shield with 100% fire resistance to reduce his damage. He’s also strong against sorceries and pyromancy so magic users will have a hard time here.
Avoid his hammer swings and slams, they’ll knock you back far and leave you helpless to fight back. They’re slow so you can quickly out maneuver them and attack him from behind.
Move away from him when he does his ground pound attack, he’ll fly into the air and slam into the ground. Getting as far away as you can will assure you’ll avoid the damage. Don’t try to attack until after he starts to recover from it.
He’ll also take his hammer and slam it into the ground, causing a short range fire shockwave. Its a bit slow so you should see him raising his hammer before it hits the ground.
Lastly is his fire explosion attack. This is the worst of his attacks, if you don’t get far away enough in time or don’t have the proper protection it’ll do massive damage in a 270 degree arc. The best way to avoid this is to get behind him as quickly as possible, but don’t get to close or you’ll still get caught in the blast.
If possible try using high powered divine weapons on him, they seem to do significant damage if used right. But if all else fails, take the most powerful weapon you have and spam it as much as you can. This boss is truly a monster to deal with.
Once he’s dead look around for a ladder you can take up and into the corridor that lead to your cell. There will be a Greatsword Black Knight so it maybe better to run back to a bonfire and save before hand. Deal with him however you can, once he’s dead, head back into your cell and collect the Peculiar Doll.
On your way back out, head to where you first meet Oscar of Astora. You’ll find he’s finally turned Hollow, and you’ll have to kill him now. Doing so will earn you a Crest Shield, this shield is great for protecting against sorcery so grab it when you can.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
The trap up the stairs will also reset so watch that, also the path that took you to where you found your first weapon will be guarded by a regular Black Knight. If you want to take him out for some souls and items you know where to find him, once you’re done here head back to Anor Londo.
Once you’re at the painting room, examine the painting to travel to the Painted World of Ariamis. Get as many Blooming Purple Moss you can, many enemies are Toxic here so this will help prevent taking massive damage. When you enter you won’t be able to leave until you reach the end so be prepared.
Inside you’ll start on a rope bridge, your first task is to head to the nearest bonfire and save. As you reach the entrance of the large fortress you’ll be attacked by 3 Undeads.
Kill them then look to your right and upwards, you’ll see a corpse hanging from a rope. Shoot it down with a bow to get 1 Humanity, you can also climb up there later if you don’t have the arrows now.
Climb up the stairs and get ready for a fight, 5 Undeads will be waiting for you at the top. Don’t let them surround you, take them out one at a time. Following the path right you’ll find a corpse with a Soul of a Proud Knight
In a small nook to the left will also lead to a Soul of a Proud Knight, along with 2 more Undeads who will ambush you along the way. Once you reach the top you’ll also encounter Crow Demons, they’re not particularly dangerous don’t let them gang up on you.
Drop down from a burnt ledge and land on a balcony with a Dried Finger. This will reset the Invader time, so more hostile NPCs and Players will be able to attack you. Head inside the building and down the stairs, you’ll find 2 Undead Rats and a corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
Leave the building and you’ll be back on the path, you should see 2 Engorged Undeads if you hadn’t found them earlier. Try to take them out from a distance, after they die they’ll spew Toxin around them. They can also shoot fireballs at you so look out for that, afterwards around for corpse with another Soul of a Proud Knight.
Head across the nearby bridge into the 2 story building and look to your right. You’ll see another corpse hanging from a rope, shoot it down for another Humanity you can grab later.
Upon entering the building, you’ll be attacked by an Undead archer to your right and 2 more Engorged Undeads. This building is loaded with quite a few useful items so lets grab them before moving on.
Head left and up the stairs, then up more stairs to the right. An Undead will try to lunge you on your way up so keep your shield ready. You should be on the support struts now, there’s also a Engorged Undead to your right that you need to kill too.
You can try to kill him from a distance or keep on going forward. The path breaks up ahead so get ready to run and jump across, on the opposite side you’ll find a corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior waiting for you. Pass the ladder for now, and kill the Engorged Undead if you didn’t already.
Follow the path to the end to find an Egg Vermifuge. Now head back and climb down the ladder, once you’re down there hit the railing to your right
A Undead hanging on it will fall off and die, then head down the stairs. In the next room there will be 2 more Undead Rats, kill them both and open the chest for a Painted Guardian set.
The door ahead leads to a dead end so head back the way you came, and head to where you saw the first Undead archer. Exit on to the balcony and attack 2 Undeads hanging to your left as you enter. If you look down you’ll see a corpse with Velka’s Rapier.
While it is possible to run and jump to it, its risky as you could easily just fall to your doom. There’s a safer way, just remember where it is for now and continue on ahead. When you leave the 2 story building you’ll see a corpse with a Large Soul of a Proud Knight.
You’ll see a large spiraling tower ahead of you, at the very top is a Red Sign Soapstone. This item is used in online play to invade another player’s world through the sign, once they accept you can do PvP matches. The winner will receive a Humanity for his efforts. There should also be a Velka’s armor set around there as well.
If you really want this item, be careful of the Crow Demons that protect it. They’ll attack you while you’re trying to make your way to the top, and can easily knock you down.
Try to either lure them down or take them out from a distance. On your way up also make sure to grab the Soul of a Brave Warrior.
While a single Crow Demon isn’t difficult, the way the stages are arranged and the number of them can make them tough to deal with. And they have an unblockable attack they use, where they will jump towards you and start peaking you non-stop.
This can be easily avoided though so start moving before they get ready to jump. Climb down the stairs all the way to the bottom, look around and you’ll see a door with white light.
As you enter you’ll see a torch wielding Undead and 13 Phalanx. Phalanx all move close together in a defensive formation, they keep their shields up constantly, and can toss spears are you from range.
The best way to kill them is to circle around them and attack from the rear or the sides. Make sure that none of the others can attack you before hand, you’ll have to stay on your toes for this fight.
Also try lure one away from the others to give you some breathing room. Fireballs and other area attack spells can also work here. The Phalanx will also respawn so remember that you’ll have to deal with them again if you run back to heal.
Now its time to collect more items, from the entrance turn right an find a corpse with a Humanity. To your left there will be some stairs that will lead to a Ring of Sacrifice.
You can also head to the entrance of the courtyard and unlock the door that will lead you back to the bonfire. Head left from the door where you’ll find a cliff with several corpses up on pikes. To your immediate left you’ll find a pyromancy called Acid Surge
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of Pyromancer. Acquire all pyromancies (25G/Silver).
There are also 3 Soul of Proud Knights scattered around the cliffs, but watch out for King Jeremiah. He’s the Invader for this area, his physical attack is poor, but he can use powerful pyromancy spells so kill him quickly while he’s trying to cast. Killing him nabs you his Notched Whip, Humanity, and variable number of souls.
You can also get his armor at the end of the stage, but for now head back to the courtyard. To the right of the entrance there will be a staircase you can climb which will lead to a room that branches into 2 paths. The left will lead to a Soul of a Proud Knight, and the path ahead leads to a underground passage via a ladder.
Climb down the ladder and into the sewers. There are a few Phalanxs and Wheel Skeletons down here, keep your distance and don’t let the rush you. After they’re gone look around the pilars for a Soul of a Proud Knight and a Soul of a Brave Warrior. Search the pillars carefully, one of them will have a lever you can pull to open a locked path.
The entrance to the sewer maze is behind an illusion wall opposite to the lever, these will be scattered at the end of paths inside. So if you ever hit a dead end try attacking the walls. Keep your shield up when you do as there may also be a Wheel Skeleton behind it too.
From the entrance of the maze area, head forward then right. Then left and head straight to get the Annex Key, then head right and take the next right up the stairs. You’ll find an Engorged Undead, kill him and get the Fire Surge pyromancy.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of Pyromancer. Acquire all pyromancies (25G/Silver).
Head back down and from the stairs turn left, then take 3 rights, you’ll find a ladder leading back up into the courtyard. Look around here for rows of tables, you should find a Dark Ember here.
There should also be a locked door you can access now using the Annex Key. Climb up the stairs and kill the approaching Engorged Undead.
From where you left the earlier room, look to your right. You’ll see some black wooden planks that you can break, beyond these is the safe path that leads to Velka’s Rapier.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Head back and climb the stairs to find 4 Crow Demons guarding a corpse with a Vow of Silence miracle. That should be all the items in this area, so head back to the spiral tower and head up to the second floor.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
There is an Undead Dragon on the second floor of the bridge, right before the end. If you’re looking to grab 5000 souls and possibly a Dragon Scale this is where you need to go.
You’ll want to focus on long-range combat here, the Undead Dragon’s attacks do alot of damage. And its easier to avoid the poison breath than his claws. So using either find a safe spot far away from him and use a Dragonslayer Bow to deal damage. Or use a regular crossbow or bow and dodge his attacks.
Once he’s gone grab the Large Soul of a Proud Knight and the Bloodshield. You can either head back down the stairs or run off the ledge ahead. The lower bridge will have some Undeads and a Heavy Knight, and beyond them is the boss of the area, Priscilla the Crossbreed.
Priscilla won’t attack you though so if you want you can avoid her and leave. But she does drop alot of useful items and a large number of souls, so if you’re willing to fight her then make sure you have some fire attacks ready and high bleed resistance.
When you attack Priscilla she’s turn invisible, but if you look at the snow on the ground you’ll be able to see where she’s standing and attack her. Dust will also shift when she attacks so you can see the range as well.
Once you’ve dealt enough damage or if you attack her with fire she’ll reappear again. If you can try to cut off her tail, she’ll drop Priscilla’s Dagger. The best way to do it is with a weapon that can do vertical slices like axes, swords and greatswords.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
She’ll also try blowing snow at you, but the range on it is short so avoid it by moving left or right. It is a magic attack as well so your shield might not block.
She doesn’t have many attacks, her invisibility and bleed effects are probably the 2 worst things about her. But once you understand how they work and counter them she’ll be a cakewalk.
Killing her earns you 30,000 souls, and Soul of Priscilla, which you can use with a Scythe or Halberd weapon of level 10 to turn into her Lifehunt Scythe.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Whatever you choice, all that remains now is to leave the painted world via the plank at the end of the stage. You can now travel between Anor Londo and this world any time you like.
Act 4.
The Great Hollow
The Great Hollow is the large tree in Blighttown, it’s filled with alot of great items but there’s just one problem. The inside of the tree is a large labyrinth of sprawling roots and branches, with many places you can fall to your doom. And its got more Basilisks so Purging Stones will be vital for survival here.
Its also recommended to have the Fall Control sorcery and as many Prism Stones you can hold. This is because you can use them to judge the distance of a fall before you take it. When you use one it’ll create sound when it hits the ground. The louder the crack, the more damage dealt from the fall.
You start the area by a bonfire upon entering, if you plan on collecting items here rest here and use all your souls. Chances are you will die from falling somehow, alot of the branches here are deceptive. And you might just fall on one you can’t actually walk on.
Its also worth mentioning unless you have given Kingseeker Frampt or Darkstalker Kaathe the Lordvessel, you’ll probably have to climb you way back up. So keep that in mind before you climb down. So try to remember the path up the best you can.
Head to your left and follow the path, you should see a empty room with 3 Basilisks roaming about. Also you should notice a large tree trunk hollow in the center of the room. Try to find a path above it, then make sure you can reach it and jump across.
You’ll find a corpse with a Cloranthy Ring, a very useful item that will dramatically increase your stamina recovery speed when worn. Fall down the second hole and continue on the path to the Basilisk filled room.
Its also worth mentioning that there are several Crystal Lizards which can be found in this area. Keep and eye out for them as they’ll drop useful items for reinforcing weapons. You can head up the near by branch to get back to the path.
You should be in the Basilisk room now. As usual remember to avoid the cursed mist attack, you’re far away from any one who can heal you so avoid it as much as possible. Run from the fight all together if you have too, getting your health halved here will make it harder on you.
After they’re dead, continue on and look for a branch under you with a corpse on it. Carefully drop down to find a Titanite Chunk. Once thats done, look around for another branch you can fall down to. Keep a look out for more Basilisks, as the further down you go the more will show up
Keep on the look out for 4 more items on branches, you’ll looking for a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier, Red, White and Blue Titanite Chunks. You’ll reach halfway down The Great Hollow, when you find a grey platform and a ladder leading down.
This area and the one under it will have more Basilisks so don’t get ambushed by them. If you need to get back up you can find a ladder on the exterior walls that’ll lead back up to the regular path. Keep going down and you’ll find a path now created by large mushrooms.
There should also be a corpse you can find with a Blue Titanite Chunk on a branch you can fall to from one of the mushrooms. You’ll encounter some new enemies here as well, the Mushroom Children. One by itself isn’t bad, but they’re usually followed by 3 to 4 more.
Worst of all are their parents, the Mushroom Parents. These guys are far more devastating than their children, while they are slower, they can do massive damage and knock you back easily. Even blocking their attacks will take up alot of your stamina, and they can surround you if you’re not careful.
Fire is there greatest weakness, any pyromancy or fire weapons will deal alot of damage here. Focus on killing them quickly before more show up. Or if you don’t want to bother just head for the near by exit to the Ash Lake.
Act 4.
Ash Lake
To get to the Ash Lake you need to have cleared The Great Hollow first, as soon as you enter you’ll find a bonfire to your right. Be careful when moving through this area, there’s a Hydra that swims in the large ocean here and he can fire water bombs at you at range.
While he may seem unbeatable he does have a few weaknesses. For starters he’s very weak to magic, so any pyromancy or sorcery you may have will work greatly here. This is great because while you can get close to him, getting too close will result in you falling to your death. There’s always a pitfall surrounding them so watch your footing.
You can also wait until he attacks will all of his heads, then cut them off one by one. Once you understand the pattern you should be go to go. Killing him earns you 5000 souls and possibly a Dragon Scale. If you need to run away, remember unless you’re inside he can still take shots at you.
There are 2 other places you can grab Dragon Scales here as well. To the left of where you entered will be one, and another is hiding on a corpse in a near by hollow tree trunk. As you progress you’ll come across Man-Eater Shells. These guys are nasty enemies to deal with, they can’t be parried or backstabbed. And blocking will take alot of your stamina.
They also have a horrible chomping attack which can result in a one-hit KO. If you want to keep your distance use some pyromancy, a few good fireballs can do wonders here. If you can kill one you might get some Purging Stones, or if you’re really lucky some Twinkling Titanite.
Move carefully when walking across the edges of the beach, its possible to slide into the water so don’t get too close to the edges as the path narrows. You’ll see a standing tree trunk to your left you can enter, which is inhabited by 3 Basilisks and a Mushroom Parent.
Once they’re gone you should find a Great Magic Barrier miracle on a branch path behind the tree, where the third Basilisk resides. All thats left now is the walk to the end of the path and meet the Stone Dragon.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
The Stone Dragon is part of the Path of the Dragon covenant, the objective of this covenant is to hand over Dragon Scales for powerful items like in the Chaos Servant covenant. You’ll receive a Dragon Eye and a Dragon Head Stone as a reward.
The Dragon Headstone allows you to turn your head into a Dragonoid one. But this will prevent you from equipping any armor on your head, and the only way to get rid of it is to die. While the Dragon Eye will allow you to enter the worlds of other characters with Dragon Scales in online mode.
If you hand in 30 Dragon Scales you can get a Dragon Torso Stone, which will prevent your from equipping any other armor, but you’ll receive the following boosts. Defense relative to the amount of Humanity you have, increased unarmed combat, and a roar attack that will knock back many enemies.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Covenant: Path of the Dragon. Discover Covenant: Path of the Dragon (25G/Silver).
Also, you can get one of the most powerful weapons in the game by going around the Stone Dragon to his tail and cutting it off. He won’t become hostile, and you’ll get the extremely powerful Dragon Greatsword. Its demands a strength of 50 to use, but it can deal a whopping 360 points of physical damage. Which onces maxed out can do 560 points of damage
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Act 5.
Darkroot Garden Cont.
Before you start the quest for the remaining bosses, there’s some unfinished business back at the Darkroot Garden. In order to get to the boss and the covenant in the New Londo Ruins you need the Covenant of Atorias.
Which is found behind the sealed door in the Darkroot Guarden. We’ll also cover the Darkroot Basin while we’re here too. Lets start with the Darkroot Basin, there’s a secret path to the sealed area there as well so you can use if you don’t have the souls.
Climb down the cliffs till you reach the bottom, there’ll be some Crystal Lizards here as well so out for them. There’s a Leather set on a cliff here if you haven’t gotten it already, along with a Longbow and 16 Feather Arrows.
Once you get to the bottom, take the path right instead. Keep following the path and you’ll come across a Black Knight carrying a halberd. The principles of killing him are the same as the the others, his attacks are just much wider than the others because of the halberd. Killing him can nab you his Black Knight Halberd.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
You’ll find a Grass Crest Shield on a corpse near by, this acts like the Cloranthy Ring and increases stamina recovery so this is a must have. Keep going and you’ll find a cave with a bonfire inside, this path also leads to the Valley of Drakes so if you need another shortcut there this will work too.
Now head out onto the Darkroot Basin forest area, you’ll encounter 3 Crystal Golems. They can deal alot of damage and have high HP and defense, but they’re extremely slow so you can easily out maneuver all their attacks. Pyromancy and some other magics will work too, just don’t get surrounded by them or you’ll be in trouble.
In the distance you’ll see a Hyrda if you haven’t noticed him already, he’ll shoot water bombs at you from a distance. He looks tough but he doesn’t have many moves, the trick to fighting him is to get close and wait for him to attack with all of heads, then try to attack him with lightning weapons and magic to cut them off.
If you have the Rusted Iron Ring it’ll make moving across the water easier, just don’t get too close to it. There’s a pitfall surrounding the Hydra and it can get easy to fall in with all the water around you so look out.
Killing the Hydra will get you a Dusk Crown Ring, which will increase your sorcery castings by 50%, but also cut your HP by 50%, and possibly a Dragon Scale. Once you’re done look to the cliffs the opposite direction of the Hydra and you’ll see a ladder heading up.
However, there’s a hidden NPC hidden in a cave to the right of where the Hydra is. Follow the path and you’ll see a Crystal Golem, but it’ll be colored differently than the others. Its a bit tougher than the others but it has the same attacks so it shouldn’t be difficult.
Killing him will free the trapped NPC, Dusk of Oolacile. She’ll set up her sign a rock near the opening of the water, and will sell you some unique sorceries like Repair, Cast Light and etc. Definitely grab all she has to offer they’re much more useful than they appear, and if used properly.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all sorceries (25G/Silver).
Climb up the ladder, you have 2 paths to cross when you get to the top, both paths connect to each other so don’t worry about missing anything. To the path on the right from the ladder, the area closest to the sealed door, is littered with enemies. The worst being the Clan of Forest Protectors.
The Clan are comprised of 6 members, Pharis the Archer, a Knight, Shaman, Cleric, Barbarian and Thief. They are all very difficult and are each unique but if you can kill them can get from 2000-5000 souls from certain members.
And with the exception of Pharis, they all respawn so this is a prime spot for farming if you can open the sealed door to the main section of the Darkroot Garden. Pharis, the Knight and the Thief have a nasty trait that makes them hard to kill, they’re wearing Rings of Fog.
The ring makes them semi-invisible, and makes you unable to lock-on to them. The Thief makes use of this more than the others, and will take any opportunity to backstab you so never turn your back on these enemies or you’ll regret it. He’s also the fastest and his Bandit’s Knife causes bleed so be careful.
They can all fight just like you do, granted they can’t switch tactics like you can but never the less, treat them as high priority threats. The Knight fights with a powerful Claymore, so you’re going to have to keep your distance and do hit and runs on him. Block and avoid his attacks as much as possible, then deal your own damage with magic or status effects.
The Barbarian has a similar style, but switches between one-handed and two-handed axe attacks. He’ll also try to parry your attacks so be patient, he’s got a Spider Shield as well so poison might not work. Try using magic instead, and out maneuver him.
The Shaman mainly uses regular and Heavy Soul Arrows on his enemies, but also uses a Short Sword once you’ve cornered him so watch it. He’ll also try to parry your attacks once he’s drawn his sword too. Physically he and the Cleric are the weakest of the group.
The Cleric is the only one of the group who can heal himself, and his friends. Make him a priority if you see him, he carries a Mace so he can deal some physical damage, but if you can kill him quickly then he won’t be a problem.
Above all else though, do not fight more than one at a time, they can easily kill you while you’re trying to deal with another of their friends. Pharis is the only one who will drop special items, Twin Humanties, Pharis’ Hat and Black Bow of Pharis.
There are also 9 Ents near the cliffs at the bottom of the map. They’re guarding a set of Eastern Armor, which you’ll want to grab if you interested in some armor in the similar defense range of the Elite Knight Armor.
Now the other side has less enemies, but has 3 Powerful ones as well. Its mainly inhabited by Mushroom Children, who aren’t that deadly. But if you’re entering from the Darkroot Basin then prepared to fight the Great Felines.
Their attacks are more difficult to block and avoid, so you’re going to have to be more careful here than before.Magic can do wonders here if you’re fast enough to cast it.
Just keep your distance and pelt them with whatever you have and they’ll go down easy. There should also be a corpse with a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior.
Arrows can work but it’s slower and they’ll have a better chance of hitting you with a roll dash they can do from distance. If you’re using physical attacks then get close and hit hard.
Look out for their biting attacks, they even have one thats unblockable and does massive damage. There is however a way if you’re not up to fighting these guys to travel safely through the woods and avoid the Clan and Felines.
If you head north of the map, you’ll find some ruins, and inside a talking cat by the name of Alvina of the Darkroot Wood. Her convenant, Forest Hunter, controls the Clan and the Great Felines. Once you join they won’t attack you unless you attack them, which will break the covenant.
She’ll also give you a Cat Covenant Ring. The covenant works around the use of this ring, once equipped you’ll be summoned to engage other players of other covenant when you are in there area. Killing 1 player for her will earn you a Divine Blessing and 3 for a Ring of Fog, like the members of the Clan use.
Now head down the 2 flights of stairs and look around the outside of the ruins on the side of the forest with the Great Felines. And you’ll find a set of Stone Armor, its a heavy armor like the Havel’s set but its slightly lighter so you can swap to this if you like.
There’s just one more item left in the Darkroot Garden now. You’re looking for a treasure chest guarded by 2 Mushroom Parent’s, the larger versions of the Mushroom Children. Inside is an Enchanted Ember, you can take this to Rickert of Vinheim and he’s ascend your weapons to enchanted ones.
Once that’s done, heal up and get ready to cross the bridge at the far end of the forest. The Great Grey Wolf Sif, is waiting behind the white light. Get the toughest physical shield you have and as many stamina buffing items you can get, this will be a long fight.
Act 5.
Great Grey Wolf Sif
Sif uses very fast and powerful attacks, which are also extremely accurate. So the best way to avoid them are to buff up your physical stats and stamina. Having a shield with 100% physical damage reduction and high stability is a must. All of his attacks can be blocked so having a tough shield will help alot.
Magic users will have an especially difficult time here. Sif moves so fast it’ll be difficult to get some time to cast spells, he has not specific magic weakness so just hit him with all that you’ve got. Avoid getting caught in sword combos, while his attacks can be blocked ultimately you need to get away from him quickly before he breaks your guard and deals damage.
Sif also can evade and attack, there’s no way of dealing damage to him while he’s doing this though so you’ll just have to dodge or block it. His spin attack that can do massive damage, blocking it can take up a lot of stamina so try to avoid one hit if not all of them.
His dashing attack can hit you twice as well, if you contact his body after blocking his initial sword slice you’ll take damage. And considering the first hit does significant damage it’ll be easy for him to break your guard if you blocked the first attack.
You can take advantage of some of his slower attacks like his slam attack. Once he slams his sword into the ground he’ll need time to recover, take this opportunity to deal as much damage as possible, his combo attack also shares a similar delay so once he’s done attacking take a few swings at him.
Killing Sif will earn you 30,000 souls, the Covenant of Atorias ring needed to enter the Abyss, and the Soul of Sif. Which you can combine with a +10 sword to create a Greatsword of Atorias. However, its properties will change depending on what kind of sword you use.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Art of Abysswalking. Acquire the Art of Abysswalking (15G/Bronze).
Regular swords like the Longsword, Bastard Sword and etc will create a version that can kill Ghosts with high physical attack. But if you combine it with a Broken Straight Sword or a Straight Sword Hilt like you got in the beginning of the game you can gain it’s true for. Which can cause divine damage, and can even prevent Skeletons like the ones in the graveyard back at the Firelink Shrine.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Collect the Hornet Ring and head out, your next quest starts at one the following areas, The Catacombs, New Londo Ruins, Demon Ruins or the Duke’s Archives. These stages can be done in any order, but I would highly recommend taking the mentioned order for beginner players.
Act 5.
The Catacombs
You’ll want to prepare yourself for a long trek through the Catacombs, so here’s a list of things you should do before you head it. Max out your Estus Flasks, get some healing magic and Bloodred Moss, and get a powerful divine weapon.
The Skeletons in the catacombs have a nasty habit of reviving themselves, using divine weapons are the only way to stop that from happening. Now get to the entrance of the Catacombs from a cave near the lowest cliff of the graveyard. Step inside and keep your guard up, the Skeletons will pop up when you least expect it.
They fight like Undead Soldiers, but they also have a dash attack that can take up a lot of health. One your way down the stairs you’ll be attacked by one while in the vicinity of 3 Wisps above a bottomless pit. Wisps will explode if you get too close, the best thing to do in this area is to just get away quickly before you get tossed off.
3 more Skeletons are down the path, keep going and you’ll come across a locked door. Turn left and head down the stairs, you’ll find a bonfire protected by an Undead Mage. He’ll toss fireballs at you, but other than that he’s not a real threat.
Look for lever near by for you to push for the locked door. Continue on killing any Skeletons on your way forward to an open area. Another Undead Mage will be shooting you in the distance while 2 more Skeletons try to attack you.
Head past the bridge and inside, this next room is littered with 7 Skeletons so watch your back. Don’t follow the Undead Mage when he runs away, you’ll be ambushed by more Skeletons if you do so take this area slowly.
To your right through the next passage will be a room with a Lucerne, a halberd type weapon but with a hammering style of fighting. To you left will be a ledge you can walk up to grab a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier.
Try to stay clear of the weeping statues in the area, if you get too close they’ll sprout spikes. So draw your shield when approaching one or dodge the best you can. Keep going and you’ll eventually come across a bridge thats been rotated sideways.
You’ll need to find another lever to fix the bridge, follow the path right of the bridge and you’ll find one there. There’ll also be a corpse with a Soul of a Proud Knight. Head across the bridge where 2 Skeletons are waiting for you.
Lure them off the bridge or rush in and take them on inside. You could get knocked off the bridge so don’t take the risk. Inside there is another Undead Mage, deal with him and head on right, you’ll see an empty room with 2 ramps in the middle
If you walk down to them there’ll be an invisible hole in one, this will take you to a lower area. You might take some damage so heal or use Fall Control. There are 2 Crystal Lizards beyond the 5 weeping statues, if you want some more Titanite this is a good spot to find some.
Follow the path to the end with a weeping statue. If you hit the wall to the left of it, you’ll break a illusion wall and you’ll be able to access a hidden bonfire here.
Climb the ladder, you’ll find another room with 2 more ramps with a hidden hole. Fall and you’ll be back by the lever you pulled earlier. Now go forward from where you fought the last Undead Mage.
You’ll find a spiral staircase, as you climb down you’ll see some rooms to your right. The first one has a Skeleton, the other has a Soul of a Proud Knight. The room ahead will also have another Soul of a Proud Knight, but its got 2 more Skeletons and 2 weeping statues so be careful.
Look for a wall with a square on it, his is blocking your path so head further down the staircase. Head into the right room and use the lever. The wall blocking your path is now open.
There are other ways down you can use if you’re interested as well. You can either head back and follow the path through the newly opened door, or you can fall from the end of the spiral staircase.
There are small ledges that spiral around the hole, if you have some Prism Stones and Fall Control you can use those to safely make your way down.
You should also find a corpse with a Green Titanite Shard on your way down, keep going and you’ll find a hole you can fall into. Once you make it in you’ll meet Vamos.
Vamos is the only smith who doesn’t sell any items, but he’s also the only one who can ascend fire and chaos weapons. Once you provide him with the embers of course.
Its also worth noting that if you did not take the mentioned route you won’t be able to meet him. Because the wall that he breaks will be be up and you can’t knock it down yourself so keep that in mind.
Alternatively you can head back through the unblocked wall and continue on till you’ll read a fork in the road.
The path ahead leads back to a ledge outside, look down and right to find a smaller ledge that leads to a Great Scythe.
Fall down from here to a platform with a Holy Robe set, a Mace and a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier. If you took the left path, follow it and then take a left. Watch out for the weeping statues and you’ll come across a ladder and a staircase.
This ladder leads to another lever that will rotate the near by bridge, the staircase leads to a bonfire so rest up if you need to. The cross the bridge and pass through the white light. Follow the path to the next room to find a broken wall you can break down.
The room will have 4 Skeletons in it, 2 of them are archers who can easily take free shots from your current position. Try to deal with the ones on the ground quickly, then climb up the near leaders and kill them.
Keep going forward to find a Darkmoon Seance Ring, this will allow you to join Gwyndolin’s Covenant in Anor Londo so you’ll want to grab it if your interested in a covenant with him.
The door leading right will take you to a ladder that runs to a hidden room in the upper level, which holds a Tranquil Walk of Peace miracle. This stops enemies from running so it can be used both offensive and defensively depending on how its used.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
Back at the fork, heading left will lead back outside. Keep going and you’ll soon enter an area filled with coffins. You’re close to the end of the Catacombs but there are still some things to take care off.
A Prowling Demon will be protecting 3 Eyes of Death, this can be used for the up coming covenant. If you look at an open coffin near the Prowling Demon you’ll be prompted to enter. Crawl inside and you’ll be taken away to the Gravelord Servant Covenant.
Gravelord Nito will be resting in a large coffin near by, speaking to him will allow you to join his covenant.
He’ll give you a Gravelord Sword, a powerful weapon that can actually inflict toxin on to enemies.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
He’ll also give you a Gravelord Sword Dance miracle, this summons several swords to rise from the ground, cutting any enemies in their path. If you give Nito 10 Eyes of Death, which can be farmed from the Basilisks, you’ll get a more powerful version of this called the Gravelord Greatsword Dance.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles (25G/Silver).
However, you can not kill him entering the area from the coffin, and once you do you won’t be able to give him Eyes of death anymore. so get what you want from him before finishing him off later.
Take the path right back at the Catacombs, climb down the stairs watching out for Skeletons on the way down. Pick up a Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier on your way down.
You’re almost to the end, once you reach the bottom you’ll have to watch out for the Wheel Skeletons and the Wisps. Keep your distance and your shield up, and make sure they don’t gang up on you and you should be find.
Once thats done, follow the path and grab a Soul of a Proud Knight. Then get ready for a boss fight with Pinwheel, he uses fire based attacks only so grab any fire protection you have along with a divine weapon for good measure.
Act 5.
Pinwheel
Pinwheel can only fight with fire magic, so keep any equipment with high fire resistance or Flash Sweat pyromancy can help minimize damage. If you’re familiar with pyromancy he uses 3 attacks with all act like these spells, Fireball, Fire Orb and Combustion.
His Fireball moves quite quickly, but it can be easily dodged or blocked because of its small size. The Fire Orb is tricker, while its much slower its large than the Fireball attack. The best way to avoid it is to watch him charge it up and dodge it before he launches it at you.
At close range he’ll use Combustion on you, this attack will do the most damage but its also easy to avoid if you can back away in time. He will also make copies of himself during the fight, this can cause problems but there is a way around it.
While there is no clear differences between him and the clones, he’ll have a purple aura around him that you can look out for. And if you kill one he’ll expose himself by try to make more again. Once he’s casting the spell again begin your attack.
Fire attacks can also work on him as well as divine attacks, so just spam those and you should be fine. Killing him will earn you a Rite of Kindling, which will allow you to increase your Estus Flasks to 20.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Rite of Kindling. Acquire the Rite of Kindling. (15G/Bronze).
Along with 6000 souls and one of 3 masks, Mask of Father, Mother and Child, Each having unique powers, once you’re done here look for a ladder at the end of the room. You can now access the Tomb of the Giants.
Act 5.
Tomb of the Giants
The tombs will be covered in darkness, the only way to see anything is either to buy a Cast Light miracle from Oolacie in the Darkroot Basin, or get a Sunlight Maggot from Solaire in Lost Izalith.
Either way you’ll need light to get through here, also keep a Fall Control and a large supply of Prism Stones if you can. There are a lot of pitfalls in this area and its hard to judge the distance will all this darkness around you.
You’ll notice some Prism Stones already scattered on the ground, you can use these as reference of which spots are safe to walk on. The enemies that will greet you here are the Giant Skeleton Swordsman, Giant Skeleton Archer and Skeleton Beast.
The Giant Skeleton Swordsmen and Archers are pretty big but you can beat them if you’ve got good magic, divine weapons will also do a lot of damage to them. And unlike the regular Skeletons they will drop souls.
However there are a lot of them, and at many times you’ll be facing 2-3 at a time so move slowly and lure them out instead of taking them all on at once. The Skeleton Beast will be a primary concern, it’s fast and extremely powerful, and can break your guard easily in a few hits.
The items in this area are plced on varying heights, so you’ll have to take a few trips to get everything from here. Start moving forward, deal with the first Giant Skeleton Swordsman and carefully make your way down.
You should find some stone slabs you can slide down on. Continue down carefully, there’s a Giant Skeleton Archer who will snipe you while you’re working your way down.
After sliding down the first slab, head right and you should find a corpse with a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. Continue down the path to the third slab. Before sliding down, position yourself as far right as you can.
As you slide down, you’ll be pushed to the right where you’ll land on a corpse with a Humanity. Fall down the ledge and go left, where you’ll find a bonfire after climbing down a nearby ladder.
When you’re done with the bonfire, you have the option of taking a hidden path to the right of the ladder after you’ve climbed back up. Keep your shield up, there will be 2 Skeleton Archers firing large arrows at you.
It contains a Large Divine Ember and a Soul of a Brave Warrior. However, it also contains 5 Giant Skeletons. Try to take them on one at a time.
Your other options are to go in with the Iron Flesh pyromancy and any magic attack that does widespread damage, like Firestorm or Wrath of the Gods to thin them out.
Once you’ve collected everything, climb back out and continue up the ramp, and kill 2 Giant Skeletons. Climb up the ladder and kill 2 more Giant Skeletons.
To the left of the ladder you just came from, you will find a little nook where you can slide down to a ledge that has a Large Soul of a Proud Knight.
Climb up the ladder again, and to your right you’ll find another Large Soul of a Proud Knight. Continue ahead and to the far left of the room, you’ll find a hidden ladder in the wall. Continue up to a ledge where you can see a corpse with 3 Eyes of Death.
Climb back up again after grabbing the item, and follow the path up a ramp to a Large Soul of a Proud Knight. From here you should be able to see where you entered The Tomb of the Giants.
After collecting all the items, head back down to the bonfire, where you will find Patches nearby. Speak to him. If he asks if you are a Cleric, say no even if you are, or he will become hostile.
Eventually he will tell you about some items nearby. If you’re interested, go to the nearby ledge with a prism stone.
A cutscene will ensue and you will be kicked down to an area filled with Bone Towers. While they are relatively easy to kill, they have long reach and move in groups of 2 or 3, so keep your distance. You’ll land among 3 corpses, which have a Skull Lantern, and 2 Large Souls of Proud Knights.
From the right of where you landed, follow the path right til you see a ramp that leads to a corpse with a White Titanite Chunk. If you haven’t already, speak to Rhea of Thorolund.
You may have seen her by the Firelink Shrine with Pertus. She will say her companions have both turned Hollow and you will have to fight them.
To find them, head left from where you meet Rhea. They’re slow, but both wield maces and can use magic to heal themselves. Your best bet is to kill one of them quickly, so you don’t have to deal with both at once. Afterwards, go back and speak to Rhea again.
Then follow the path through the tunnel, and up a ladder and you’ll return to the area by the bonfire. Speak to Patches against and he’ll ask you to forgive him. Say “No” and he’ll give you Twin Humanities, and will also open up a shop near Kingseeker Frampt, where he will sell rare goods.
Head right from Patches, and follow the path til you are attacked by a Skeleton Beast. Eventually you’ll come across white light. The next area will have 2 Skeleton Beasts, 1 Giant Skeleton Archer, and 1 Greataxe Black Knight. You can also go behind the Archer to find a Soul of a Brave Warrior.
There is also a hidden platform you can fall down to which has a Covetus Silver Serpent Ring guarded by 5 Bone Towers. The ring gives you an extra 20% of souls per kill when equipped. To get back to the main path, you have 2 options, either look for a ledge under you that you can locate using prism stones.
Or you can roll across a nearby wall and try to make it to the ledge across. However, both of these come with risks of dying, so be careful. Those who chose not to go after the Ring, can make their way down through the tunnel entrance.
From the entrance of the tunnel head all the way right to collect an Effigy Shield. Then head back and take the left path down a ramp to fight a Skeleton Beast and Giant Skeleton. If you need to recover, head to the left to find a bonfire. Continue down the nearby ramp to the next level.
Search the nearby corpse for a White Titanite Chunk. Continue down the path and avoid getting ambushed by the 3 Skeleton Beasts. Then look for another ramp, and take a U-turn into a short tunnel that leads to a corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior. Continue down and climb down a ladder.
Continue down the narrow path. If you are Human you may be attacked by Invader Paladin Leeroy. He’s got a powerful mace but its very slow, so you can out maneuver him and hit him when he’s recovering.
Killing him will earn you a large number of souls, and either his Sanctum shield or his divine Great Hammer, Grant.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Take a right into the bright tunnel. Follow the path and watch for the Bone Towers that will pop up along the way. At the end of the path there will be a Giant Skeleton Swordsman and a Giant Skeleton Archer. Head into the tunnel and you will enter a new area with Pinwheel Servants.
They are similar to the earlier Pinwheel boss, but are much weaker and have only one long range attack. If you have a Dragonslayer Bow, use it to snipe at them from a distance, or Poison arrows can work just as well.
Head left and look aroung the nearby nook to find a corpse with a Soul of a Hero. You may have to search thoroughly as it is well hidden.
As you progress through the area, beware of the Skeleton Babies that populate the area. They are infinitely spawning and can cause toxin. They will attack in large numbers in the water.
Continue until you find a ramp that goes up. Before proceeding up, look behind a stalagmite to the left that has a White Titanite Chunk. Climb up the ramp and continue along til you see a hole in the left wall.
Go through it to find a White Titanite Slab. Then head to the opposite side to fall back down to the earlier ramp. Continue up the path to a barricaded door, head left to find a Soul of a Hero.
Get any divine weapons and toxin healing you can get. If you didn’t get the Lordvessel make sure to have atleast a Homeward Bone, otherwise you won’t be able to get out of the next area.
When you’re ready, head through the white light and prepare for your fight with Gravelord Nito.
Act 5.
Gravelord Nito
Use Fall Control before falling down into the chamber, the fight with Nito is going to be a painful one. For starters, he’ll summon several Skeletons and Giant Skeletons into the battlefield, and his attacks are powerful and cause toxin. So you’ll need to have divine weapons and as much healing as possible.
You’ll want to get rid of the Skeletons first, it’ll be difficult to focus on Nito with them attacking you. While Nito’s attacks are wide, they’re also slow so you can dodge them while you’re dealing with the Skeletons.
If you don’t have any divine weapons then the Skeletons will just keep reviving so make sure to have a strong one before the start of the fight. Once they’re death focus on Nito, you can block and dodge most of his sword swings.
But there are 3 attacks in particular you shouls avoid at all costs. Nito can summon a gravelord sword by stabbing it into the ground, not only with the magic blade hurt you but if you get caught in the stab you’ll be hurt badly. You can avoid this early by evading his attacks when you hear him screaming.
His grab attack deals the most damage, and can kill you easy. But Nito hand will glow red before he strikes, so if you see that get ready to run. Once he’s missed, head in and counter attack.
Lastly is his toxic pool attack has a huge radius, and deals alot of damage so run away as soon as you can. Any time after he attacks you should try to stay close and hack away with 2 handed attacks. Then run away to keep your distance.
Magic users can also utilize long-range attacks, but will still have to avoid the gravelord sword and the toxic pool. Once he’s down you’ll get 35,000 Souls and the Lord Soul for your trouble.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY:Defeat Gravelord Nito. Defeat the Soul Lord Gravelord Nito (25G/Silver).
A bonfire will appear after Nito is dead, use that to escape the area. Or avoid the bonfire and use a Homeward Bone instead to get out.
Act 5.
New Londo Ruins
For the New Londo Ruins you’ll have to prepare a lot of gear before your go in, its not a large area but there are many tough enemies here. The Covenant of Atorias you get from The Great Grey Wolf, Sif in the Darkroot Guarden is a must-have here.
Its the only way to fight the boss here without getting swallowed by darkness and getting killed instantly. Also, If you ventured here earlier you’ll have seen the Ghosts that wander the ruins that you can’t hurt.
You need a cursed weapon like the dark version of the Greatsword of Atorias or buy a Transient Curse from the Female Undead Merchant near the Undead Burg. The Transient Curse will allow all your attacks to connect with the Ghosts, even arrows and spells will do damage so buy as many as you can.
Having divine weapons will also help, many enemies here are some form of undead or unholy being and this will give you an edge. They may also drop Ghost Blades or Jagged Ghost Blades that are also cursed so look out for those.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
After crossing the bridge a Ghost will attack you, watch out for their long reach grab as they’ll stab you in the neck shortly afterwards. The worst part is that other Ghosts can still do damage to you while you’re grabbed.
The best way to deal with them is to kill them as fast as possible, they don’t have much health so its easier than it looks.
Head right carefully wading through the water, you can find a corpse with a Firekeeper’s Soul guarded by 3 Ghosts to your right.
They’re hiding under the bridge and will rise up to attack you so lure them out or shoot them from a distance. You can find 2 more Transient Curses further to the right, once you’re done head up the stairs to the left.
Continue up the path and take care of 2 more Ghosts, you’ll come across a bridge. 6 Ghosts are waiting to ambush you in the next room, lure them out of hiding and take them out one by one.
If you look to your left from the entrance of the room you’ll see an elevator shaft, but you can’t use it right now because of the water so continue on and down the spiral stairs in the far left of the room.
The walkways ahead split, ahead of you will be a Parrying Dagger guarded by a Ghost hiding in the wall, while the path right will lead to a Transient Curse and the way ahead.
Climb up the stairs and you’ll come across a new walkway, you can kick down a ladder ahead of you for a sniping point, 4 more Ghosts are hiding under and over the walkways so shoot them quickly before they come after you. Once they’re cleared continue onward, grabbing the Large Soul of a Proud Knight from near by.
You’ll come across a large church like structure filled with Ghosts, go inside but take the left path that will lead you back outside for some items. Once you’re outside the path will branch at 2 staircases
The left will lead you to a Green Titanite Shard, the right will Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier and Humanity further down the path.
From this path you can also try to jump to the roof of the church, you can get a Rare Ring of Sacrifice for your efforts. Back inside, from where you currently entered from head left and follow the path till you see a door leading outside.
Look for a corpse carrying a Cursebite Ring, it is highly recommended to grab this, its one of the few pieces of gear in the game that can protect you from curses.
Once you’re done head inside the main room. 4 Ghosts will attack you in the main room, don’t get surrounded or caught in a grab. Keep moving to avoid their attacks while you try to kill them, act fast or you’ll get overwhelmed.
After they’re dead you can head into the fireplace, or head into the remaining Ghost filled corridor to nab a Soul of a Proud Knight. Head to the roof and look for Ingward.
Speak to him and he’ll tell you why New Londo was flooded, give you a Key to the Seal to open the flood gates. Ingward is also the only NPC who can cure curses, and if you return to him after killing the boss here, he will sell you the Resist Curse sorcery for 5000 Souls.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all sorceries (25G/Silver).
Head back to the path where you found the Humanity, you should have seen a tower ahead of you on your way up. Head in and up the stairs, follow the path and you’ll find a Composite Bow and 16 Large Arrows.
Then head back down and find a gate, you can use the Key to the Seal to unlock the door. Turn the lever and the flood gates will open, granting you access to the lower areas. Along with creating a shortcut to the Valley of Drakes.
You can head back inside to find a new elevator that will take you to the ground floor. Do whatever healing and resupplying you need, the next enemies are both numerous and tough to deal with.
On the ground floor you’ll be greeted by Darkwraiths. They fight like Silver and Black Knights, but they’re worse because they attack in groups, and have a powerful grab attack that does massive damage. This attack will also steal 1 Humanity from you when it connects so keep your distance and take them on one at a time.
They’ll also try to ambush you at many points down here, so keep your ears open for their footsteps. The end of the stage is near the area under the church, but you’ll have to take the long way around.
So make your way up the bodies of corpses and up the near by stairs ahead of you, dealing with any Darkwraiths along the way.
You’ll soon enter a 2 room building with a Large Soul of a Proud Knight, which will have a Darkwraith at the other side.
Kill him and move on, you’ll eventually enter a courtyard like room. Here you’ll have to fight 3 Darkwraiths and a Mass of Souls, try to kill the Darkwraiths one by one.
The Mass of Souls is extremely slow and has weak attacks so don’t worry too much about it. But they can summon Wisps so be careful so you don’t get caught in an explosion while you’re trying to fight an enemy.
There is a Very Large Ember in the higher levels of this room you’ll want to grab before leaving, so head behind where the Mass of Souls was and look for a staircase leading up. Then you’ll have 2 paths to follow, the one ahead will lead to a Soul of a Brave Warrior, the right will lead up to another set of stairs and the Very Large Ember.
Head back down and leave through the exit opposite of where you entered the building and head left. 2 Darkwraiths will try to ambush you here so watch out, once they’re gone look to the right of a near by pillar.
Look for a illusion wall in an arch nearby, you’ll find a Titanite Chunk guarded by another Darkwraith. If you head straight to the church and follow the right edge, you’ll find a corpse with a Large Soul of a Proud Knight.
And opposite of the illusion wall, you can find a well with 6 Cracked Red Eye Orbs. Once you’re done here head inside, there are a few more Darkwraiths and another Mass of Souls inside.
Then head to your right and outside where you’ll see a tower with white light. Enter inside and equip the Covenant of Atorias, and any gear you have which is strong against both physical and magic attacks. Once you’re ready, fall into the darkness, and get right to fight the Four Kings.
Act 5.
Four Kings
This will be a tough fight, and it’ll only get worse as the longer it goes. When you land in the Abyss look around quickly for the first King, he’ll be coming towards you ready to attack, and one more as time goes by till all four appear at once. However they all share one life bar, and each of them comprise 20% of that bar, so its easy to focus on one and then another and so on.
The fight will be almost impossible if all four appear at once, make sure not to let that happen, if you’re fighting with physical attacks switch between attacking with 2 hands to do max damage and quickly switching back to block.
As for magic keep your distance but don’t stray to far so another King can get a free hit out on you. They have many sword slashes and thrusts that are combined with some form of an energy attack so having some physical along with magic defense here will soak up some of the damage.
Their magic shots are also easy to dodge but impossible to block, you’ll see their purple glow in the distance before they move towards you. The worst attacks you should avoid are the magic explosion and grab attacks.
The explosion is unblockable but easy to avoid, a King will spin around and emit purple energy, when this happens run as far away as possible and you should be fine.
The grab attack is similar to the magic explosion, but instead of releasing energy the King will dash towards you with it’s hand extended. This is also unblockable and if it grabs you can kill you in one hit and steal 1 Humanity so make running away a priority when you see this move.
In essence this is an endurance fight, the longer you can stay alive and the faster you can do damage will ensure your victory. Once they’re dead you’ll get 30,000 Souls and Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard. A new bonfire will appear as well, this will be your way out but you’re not quite done yet.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY:Defeat the Four Kings. Defeat the Four Kings, inheritors of souls (25G/Silver).
Now you can take the newly made bonfire out, but if you haven’t given Kingseeker Frampt the Lordvessel you can meet Darkstalker Kaathe here. He will tell you the Darkwraith’s side of the story, and how you’ll have the opportunity to become the Dark Lord if you chose to snuff out the flames. You can also join his covenant, the Darkwraith for some interesting items.
He’ll give you a Dark Hand and sell you Cracked Red Eye Orbs for 3000 Souls, this covenant specializes in stealing Humanity from other players via Online PvP using the Dark Hand like a weapon. 10 Humanity will give you a whole Red Eye Orb, 30 will give you a Darksword and a Darkwraith Set, while 80 will increase the Humanity stealing power of the Dark Hand.
It can also be used like a shield with average stats of 80% across the board, so if you’re feeling evil give this covenant a shot. Also, do not approach Kaathe if you are a member of the Princess Guard Covenant or he’ll disappear.
And even talking to Oswald of Carim about absolving your sins won’t bring him back so keep that in mind.
Act 6.
Demon Ruins
You can get to the Demon Ruins from the bottom floor of Quelaag’s Domain, near where you met the Daughter of Chaos. There’s a tunnel lit bright red from the large pools of lava inside.
Equip all your best physical and fire-resistant gear you have. Many enemies in the Demon Ruins use fire, and are the minor versions of bosses you fought earlier so you’ll need those to protect yourself.
Divine, lightning and enchanted weapons are highly suggested to damage to these guys. It’ll also help to have a large supply of Dragonslayer arrows if you have the Dragonslayer bow. That way you can atleast weaken some enemies from a distance if not kill them outright.
As you enter the ruins you’ll come across the first bonfire. The Egg Carriers around you won’t attack if you don’t bother them, so if you want to farm some souls you can do this here.
The path you want to go is flooded by lava, so the only way to progress in this stage is to kill the near by boss. The Ceaseless Discharge, he’s powerful but he’s not impossible to kill. So head down the path and take the immediate right
Follow the path along the bridge and go all the way to the end. The Ceaseless Discharge won’t attack you right away, you have to aggravate it by collecting the near by Golden Hemmed set. Then the fight will begin.
He sticks to using his arms to smash you into the ground, along with variations like stabs and swipes. Many of these can be avoided if you time it right, and once he’s attacked you can attack the arm while he’s trying to recover it.
Magic users can keep their distance and start spamming Soul Arrows or Spears at him. Or you could also hang back to the fork in the road and hide behind the rock wall and attack his arms once they’ve landed.
He also uses a flaming variation that will release a stream of fire after he dips his arm into the lava. This is almost impossible to dodge so you’ll have to either run away as he dips his hand in or block it with a powerful shield like Havel’s Greatshield.
There is one other way which is much easier, and quite humorous. If you agitate him and run all the way back to the white light, he’ll try to chase after you. Then he’ll jump and slam his hand right infront of you.
If you were touching the white light you should be safe, and his hand will be stuck on the ground. Now if you were paying attention your surroundings you’ll soon realize that where the Ceaseless Discharge is hanging from is a bottomless pit.
Hack away at his hand and watch him fall to his doom, he’ll give you 10,000 souls and will drain the lava from the lower area. Allowing you access into the inner areas of the Demon Ruins.
Head back across the bridge and head to the new area. Avoid the lava if you can, even if you have high fire defense it won’t reduce damage. Follow the path right to continue further in, however there are some items here to look into.
If you look left of where you entered this lower area, you’ll see 2 corpses. One with a Soul of a Proud Knight, and another with a Large Soul of a Proud Knight
There is also a Chaos Flame Ember, used to ascend weapons that increase power using Humanity, on a corpse in a lava pool to the far end. But it is being guarded by 7 Minor Tarus Demons. They attack just like the earlier Taurus Demon did, but they’re weaker.
Granted they are in large numbers here so fighting them all will be a problem, if you have a Dragonslayer Bow or Poison arrows you can try sniping them from where you fought the Ceaseless Discharge. It’ll take time but you won’t be harmed.
Or you can use the arrows to lure 1 to you and fight them one-on-one, other than that they fight exactly like the original Taurus Demon so you should be more than ready to deal with them
If you wait you can get an Orange Charred Ring, this will significantly reduce the amount of damage you take from lava. While it isn’t perfect at least you’ll be able to mange moving through the lava pools.
So if you want you can come back later once you have the ring. At the start of the new open path you’ll approach more ruin like structures, along with Minor Capra Demons. Just like the Minor Taurus Demons you saw earlier they’re weaker but come in much larger numbers.
Luckily you have more options this time around, you can get a few shots on him with a bow before he charges after you. So when ever you see any in the distance, try to shoot them with arrows before actually approaching them.
If you’re human you’ll also run into Invader Kirk again. His tactics and difficulty haven’t changed much if at all, But he could attack you while you’re trying to deal with other enemies. So try to hunt him down first and then move on.
Continue on carefully till you reach some stairs down. Eventually you’ll also meet a Demonic Statue among the countless Minor Capra Demons.
Right now by itself isn’t that dangerous, as it only has a fire-breath attack. But later on they’ll appear in large numbers so keep that in mind. Then head right and look for a path leading to a Burrowing Rockworm, it looks like a large centipede-like creature hanging from the celling.
Its not that difficult to kill considering it can’t move where its standing. But it has 2 dangerous attacks, a spit attack can reduce the durability, and its grab attack. Once it has you it will start biting you then spit you out.
After you’ve killed it a bonfire will reveal itself to you. Do what you need to and head back, look for another staircase going down with 4 Demonic Statues. There will be some more Minor Taurus Demons ahead so get ready.
Ahead will be the next boss fight, but you can grab some useful items before heading in. The path to the right will be protected by some Minor Taurus Demons and hidden Burrowing Rockworms. At the end of that path is a Large Flame Ember used to ascend fire weapons so you’ll definitely want it.
Head back at the white light, grab a Soul of a Brave Warrior to the right of it. Then once you’re ready step in and face the Demon Firesage.
Act 6.
Demon Firesage
Before you actually take on the Demon Firesage, if have joined the Daughter of Chaos covenant and managed to level it up to rank 2, it is possible to bypass the next 2 boss fights.
In a large corridor with a Soul of a Brave Warrior, there is a large root leading to a locked door, if you’re part of the Daughter of Chaos, can be given the ability to open it. Leading you to the final area of Lost Izalith.
But you will miss out on the Demon Catalyst, Orange Charred Ring and souls you can get from them so think carefully about if you really want to skip them. Whenever you’re ready head in.
The Demon Firesage isn’t that different from the Asylum Demon from the beginning of the game. He has alot of similar attacks with a twist, he has 2 variations of his hammer slams that create a small fire explosion when used.
Considering his slow speed you can run in 2-handed and deal alot of damage, then back out before he attacks. Not to mention if you’re using magic you can avoid all his attacks all together, just avoid the area damage from the explosion attacks and you should be good.
After he’s dead you can head up the stairs. There’s a shortcut to Quelaag’s Domain you can access now, along with a Soul of a Brave Warrior behind some Demonic Statues. Once you’re at the top you’ll see a green-ish platform, stand on button in the middle to activate it.
The next boss is downstairs from this staircase as well, along with another bonfire so thats another spot you can rest up too. Follow the path across another root into a large corridor.
This corridor contains another corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior near by you can jump to. Once you’ve made it to the end get ready for the fight with the Centipede Demon.
Act 6.
Centipede Demon
The biggest issue with this fight is the lava. Its everywhere and you don’t have a real way of dealing with it, yet. Make a mad dash to to the middle of the room or the right. You’re looking for a large patch of land with a corpse holding 2 Green Titanite Shards.
Its not ideal but these are the only 2 areas you can easily maneuver, your main objective is to chop it’s arm or tail. It’ll drop the Orange Charred Ring, and if you’re fast you’ll finally be able to equip it and move around the lava.
Now you can manage the lava, here are a few things you should know about this boss. It uses its arms to deal damage using slam and punching attacks, along with jumping attacks that will do massive damage.
You can dodge and block it’s arm attack but it’ll be tough to block the jump, so when he’s in the air start running. There’s also an exploding variation of this move so thats even more reason to get away fast.
When he stops and roars, run away quickly. It’ll use an unblockable grab attack that will chew you up and spit you out. And be careful when attacking the tail, it can come off and become a separate monster so deal as much damage as possible before it can get a chance to attack you.
There are 2 ways of dealing damage. If you’re using physical attacks, switch to 2 handed and charge under him. He will try to stomp you with his feet but if you’re fast enough you can avoid the attack.
This is a risky tactic because if you get out of the safe-ish zone you could get caught in another attack. But if you can deal enough damage to his legs and lower region you might be able to finish him off right there.
The field is wide enough that you could run away and snipe at him with arrows or magic. But that jump attack can close the gap easily so you’ll have to move fast if you want to fight long distance.
Once it’s dead you’ll get 20,000 souls and open the path left of the entrance of this area to Lost Izalith. If you need to heal there’s a bonfire at the start of the next area if you wish to use it.
Act 6.
Lost Izalith
There are 2 ways of getting into Lost Izalith, if you are a part of the Daughter of Chaos covenant and you’ve ranked up to level 2, you can access the shortcut that leads right to the main boss. Or if not then you’ll have had to kill the Centipede Demon and travel through its den.
If you started from the shortcut then all you’ll have to deal with is 1 Prowling Demon that you can farm Demon Titanite from, as this is the only one in the game that respawns.
Then head left and up the root, turn right and you’ll have to fight Quelaana, she won’t die permanently so don’t worry about losing her if you’re getting pyromany from here. To the left path down the stairs will be the boss, the path ahead will lead to a chest with a Chaos Fire Whip.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Bond of a Pyromancer. Acquire all Pyromancies. (25G/Silver).
Now if you had entered from the Centipede Demon’s den. You’ll meet up with Solaire again by the bonfire, rest up and head in. You’ll notice the entire area is covered in lava, but there are roots you can walk along that can reduce the amount of time you are exposed to the lava.
Follow the root path while avoiding the Bounding Demons. If you’re strong enough, you could use your Dragonslayer bow and deal with them from a distance, they won’t approach you if you’re so far away so you can kill some around the bonfire area.
At the end of the first root path there will be a chest with a Soul of a Brave Warrior. Continue along the next one till you reach a tower with some Demonic Statues, inside you should find a corpse with a Soul of a Great Hero. Then leave and proceed along the next root to the next tower.
Following the root all the way up you’ll find a corpse with Twin Humanities. Land on the lower level carefully and start hitting the walls up the staircases. Once of them is an illusion wall that is hiding another bonfire, you can rest here so you don’t have to make such a long trek.
From where you are now, there are 2 Divine Blessings to the south of where you are now, there are 3 Bounding Demons as well near by so you may want to do this as a suicide run later if you can’t deal with them properly.
Then once you’re done here head up to a archway housing another root path leading up into the ruins. The main area is filled will Demon Statues so be careful as its easy to get overwhelmed by them.
Check behind the pillar near the stairs to find a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior, then climb up the encounter a Chaos Eater, these guys can do massive damage if you let them eat you. And they have an acid spray that can damage your weapon’s durability so kill them quickly.
Then head right, ahead and to the left is where the shortcut connects to the stage. Also If you’re human when you enter the area, you’ll have to fight Invader Kirk again while dealing with Quelaana. Once they’re gone you can search for items in peace.
Head down the near by root and climb down another one near by. It will lead to a platform with a Soul of a Hero and a Rare Ring of Sacrifice on a ledge you have to fall down too.
Back at the earlier platform, head left of the first root bridge and you’ll see a small room. Use Fall control before entering, the floor will give way and you’ll fall into a sewer. If you were close to the edge you should land on the second floor of the sewer.
If not then you’ll land in the poisonous mud with Siegmeyer of Catarina, surrounded by Chaos Eaters, speak to him and he’ll help you kill these things. Or you can kill them all first an then speak to him to get a Speckeled Stoneplate Ring.
While you’re here collect the Soul of a Brave Warrior and 2 Red Titanite Chunks from the corpses near by. Exit the room to the left or right and head towards the open pit but don’t fall in. There’s nothing at the bottom and you’ll just die instantly so carefully walk around it.
In the next corridor keep walking around and eventually you’ll find a chest with a Red Titanite Slab. Then head back the opposite direction, head to the right side of the room and up a staircase behind a large root. There’s another on the opposite side but this will lead to 2 Green Titanite Shards as well.
Both staircases lead to a room with large roots, from the staircases head to downward. You’re looking for a root thats on level and touching the platform and wall. This will take you back upstairs, this covers all the items in Lost Izalith. Now head back and into the light to face the Bed of Chaos.
Act 6.
Bed of Chaos
The Bed of Chaos is not your traditional boss fight, when you first enter and try to attack it you won’t do any damage. Instead you’re supposed to destroy the glowing root seals that are connected to it.
Be careful while you’re attacking these as it can attack you with it’s large root arms which cover the entire area. You can’t dodge it so you’ll have to choice to block it so having a lot of stamina or stamina healing items will help here.
After one seal is destroyed it’ll start to destroy the floor under you, so don’t run. Move slowly and carefully when making your way to the next seal. It will also gain a fire wave attack, its powerful but has a narrow field. So you can strafe around it if you’re quick.
When the last seal is broken, a passage way will open under the Bed of Chaos. Don’t immediately run towards it as the floor will fall from under you. Get close enough so the floor breaks, and you’ll see a root path that leads forward.
You may die a few times trying to get there so make sure you angle your jump or roll carefully. Also avoid it’s new fire pillar attack. You’ll see some fire forming before this happens so get to a safe spot.
Once you’ve managed to land on the ledge charge in, some branches my stop your way but you can either run through them or just attack them to get by. Then you’ll see the real Bed of Chaos. Attack with whatever you have and end this once and for all.
You’ll get 40,000 souls and the Lord Soul for beating him, a bonfire will also form where the Bed of Chaos’ body used to be so you can get out by warping from that.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY:Defeat the Bed of Chaos. Defeat the Soul Lord Bed of Chaos. (25G/Silver).
Act 6.
Duke’s Archives
From the first bonfire you encounter in Anor Londo, exit and head left. Keep going and you’ll find a balcony leading to a staircase. Follow the path till you reach the entrance to The Duke’s Archives.
When you enter there will be 2 Fully Armored Tusks in the first corridor. If you have poison arrows, you can hang back outside the entrance and attack with long range attacks, since it cannot leave the corridor.
Do the same with the second one by luring it towards the entrance. Once inside, you’ll find a bonfire next to the staircase. Take the staircase to the elevator and pull the lever to head up.
On the 2nd Floor, be ready to fight 5 Crystal Undead Soldiers, all strengthened by a Channeler. Since it is easy to get overwhelmed here, take them on one at a time, going after the Channeler first if possible.
After disposing of the enemies, go behind the large staircase where you’ll find a corpse with a Soul of a Brave Warrior. Climb up the staircase, killing any Crystal Soldiers in your way, and head left.
On the 2nd floor head left again and follow the path to a treasure chest with 1 Twinkling Titanite. Head back and take the right set of stairs. Then follow the path till you reach a balcony to your left.
Beware of the Crystal Undead Soldier waiting to ambush you. Defeat him and collect a Twinkling Titanite from the corpse. Head back to the staircase and ride the elevator all the way up.
Head through the next corridor where you’ll be attacked by a Crystal General. Then continue up the nearby staircase. You’ll come across a white light, behind it is Seath the Scaleless.
Equip any rare rings of sacrifice you may have, or use all your humanity and souls because in order to progress you have to be killed by Seath. Also bring any curse resistant gear or healing items and spells, as all of his attacks will do curse damage to you.
Once ready, step through the light. Don’t bother attacking Seath as his health will regenerate instantly. Allow your character to be killed so you can be respawned in the next area.
You’ll be respawned in a cell near a bonfire. At the opposite end of the room there will be 3 Crystal Soldiers that you can farm for souls. Then head back and check the gate. There will be a Serpent Soldier who has the key on the other side.
Attack him through the bars to get the Archive Tower Cell Key. Use the key and head outside. After the cutscene, swarms of Pisaca will be unleashed. They will climb up the staircase and try to get to you.
To avoid them, head back into the cell and close the gate behind you. The only way out is a door at the top of the tower, but it is locked.
To get the key, go all the way down and collect it from a chest being guarded by the Serpent Soldiers who activated the music. As you progress down the stairs, enter the first cell you see with 2 Crystal Soldiers.
Head all the way to the end and down a hole to find a corpse with an Archive Prison Extra Key which will allow you to access the other cell doors.
Keep going down, dealing with any Pisaca in your way. Once you reach the bottom, look around for a ladder leading up to the balcony with the huge gramophone. You’ll have to defeat 2 Serpent Soldier and a Serpent Mage once you make it up there.
Switch off the music by pulling the lever to make the Pisacas docile. Head to the end of the balcony to find a chest with the Archive Tower Giant Door Key. Then head back down the stairs and enter the large room.
Any Pisacas you didn’t kill before will now be in this room. Lure them out one by one to enter the room safety and then speak to Big Hat Logan, who will ask you to free him.
The key is back in the library so you’ll have to return back here later. Make sure to also kill the 2 Pisacas to your left will drop 2 Miracles, Soothing Sunlight, and Bountiful Sunlight. If you are part of Gwynevere’s covenant, you’ll be able to use these magics right away.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Prayer of a Maiden. Acquire all miracles. (25G/Silver).
Once you’re done here, head back up to your cell. Return to the area where the 3 Crystal Soldiers were previously, and exit through that door. You’ll see a corpse on a walkway below you.
Fall down to collect a Large Soul of a Brave Warrior. To reach the bottom floor safety, continue dropping down ledges which will lead to the Gramophone balcony.
Now head straight to the top of the stairs, and climb the ladder all the way up. From this platform you can look down below the catwalk to see the door of a cell that contains a set of Maiden’s Robes.
Follow the catwalk to the edge and slowly walk off it so you drop onto the darker catwalk below. This brings you to the entrance of the cell.
After collecting the Maiden’s Set and the White Seance Ring from the corpse, drop down the nearby hole, back to the Bonfire room.
Now you can finally leave this area through the large door at the top. You’ll have to fight 2 Crystal Undead Soldiers and 1 Archer on your way out.
When you head back inside, you’ll be in the area of the library that you started from. You’ll be attacked by 2 Channelers. Head to the closest one and dispose of him quickly.
Then proceed down the nearby staircase, killing any Crystal Undead Soldiers along the way. At the bottom of the library, head all the way to the balcony ahead and rest at the bonfire.
If desired, you can collect Avelyn, a rapidfire crossbow, by returning to the part of the library you first started from before encountering Seath.
From the bonfire, go up the staircase, take the left path and head all the way up. Then head through the nearby corridor. You’ll find a staircase that you can rotate from a handle in the center.
After pulling the handle, position yourself at the bottom of the rotating section and carefully time it so you land on the bookcase with a treasure chest as you walk off the stairs. Landing anywhere else will kill you instantly.
Back in the room next to the bonfire, climb all the way to the top of the stairs and head left and up the rotating staircase. Then head right and collect a Strong Magic Shield Sorcery from the chest.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all sorceries. (25G/Silver).
Head back down onto the rotating staircase and turn the handle, and continue downwards to a lit archway. Climb down the nearby ladder. At the bottom, you’ll see a lever nearby, pull it and a hidden shortcut will open, allowing quicker access to the bonfire.
Return to the lever room and head left to get a Blue Titanite Chunk. Now take the remaining exit from the lever room and you’ll enter a room with 3 treasure chests and a Mimic. Turn left immediately after entering to find a Channeler’s Set of Armor.
Then continue ahead to find 2 more chests. The one on the left contains the Archive Tower Giant Cell Key. The one on the right is a Mimic that drops an Enchanted Falchion. Head further right behind some bookcases to find a chest containing a Crystal Ember.
If you wish, you can now return to the tower to free Big Hat Logan. When you return to this library room again, he will be here. You can now buy Crystal versions of powerful magic from him, such as the Crystal Soul Spear and so on.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Wisdom of a Sage. Acquire all sorceries. (25G/Silver).
Pull the nearby lever to proceed into the next area. Head down the stairs and you’ll find 20 Prism Stones. Then enter the white light to proceed to the surrounding forest. Climb down the ladder and look around for a Yellow Crystal Golem.
If you can kill it, you will meet Sieglinde of Catarina. She says she’ll be looking for her father, if she asks if you have seen him respond with yes. This will continue Siegmeyer’s side quest, also make sure to kill the remaining Crystal Golems in the area so she can leave safely.
Head the opposite way and keep following the path. You’ll eventually come across a corpse with Crystalline Armor. Continue following the path and you’ll reach the entrance of the Crystal Caves.
Act 6.
Crystal Caves
Prepare as many Prism Stones and arrows as you can get. The paths in the Crystal Caves are invisible and narrow, so it is very easy to fall and die in this area. You can figure out the paths by watching the falling crystal flakes. They shatter as they land on the invisible paths, while the rest continue falling downwards.
It is best to avoid combat here as you can easily be knocked off the path. So use your arrows as much as possible, they will act as both a weapon and can be used to shoot the invisible paths and mark their locations visually.
Continue all the way down and you’ll come to your first hidden path. You’ll see a narrow tunnel to your left. Proceed through to collect 1 Humanity from a corpse.
Fall down to the nearby crystal beam and carefully make your way down. You’ll see Crystal Butterflies all over the area. These enemies are docile and will only attack when approached, so avoid them as best you can.
Continue ahead to where you see the crystal flakes falling, to find your next invisible path. This is a straight path, so just watch where the flakes land proceed through.
You may find a Crystal Golem in the distance. Use long range attacks and continue along the platform. Look down. you’ll see a Yellow Crystal Golem next to a corpse.
Those will be dealt with later, drop down from here and you’ll land on an invisible path. In the tunnel behind you there will be 3 Crystal Lizards. Kill them for some Titanite.
Continue through the tunnel and along the invisible path to reach a Blue Titanite Slab. This path will curve as you near the corpse, so move slowly and use your prism stones. After collecting the Blue Titanite Slab, head back onto the main path.
Drop down onto the beam you saw earlier with the Yellow Crystal Golem and the corpse. Try to kill the Golem as quickly as possible. If you’re lucky, he may fall off the platform and kill himself. This corpse has a Blue Titanite Chunk.
Head in the opposite direction and you’ll find an invisible path leading back to the top. Fall back down onto the invisible path with the tunnel, but this time carefully proceed straight ahead instead of going through the tunnel.
Once you make it to the other side, head left and walk down a ramp to find a corpse with a Soul of a Hero. Then continue through to the next area.
The next area will have 6 Man-Eater Shells. If you wish to fight them, don’t take them on all at once, lure them one by one. When you’re ready, head inside to deal with Seath.
Act 6.
Seath the Scaleless
If you still have any curse resistant gear, items and magic still on you, now would be the time to use them. And any weapons that can do multiple stats with high damage will also help you out greatly, the True Greatsword of Atorias, Quelaag’s Furysword and etc are such weapons capable of dealing damage.
The first thing you need to do is to smash the crystal pillar that is healing Seath, once that’s done he’ll writhe in pain and now become vulnerable to attack.
While he’s screaming you can get a few free hits on him. Its also possible to get behind him, the tip of his tail contains a Moonlight Greatsword, a very powerful magic based greatsword with some interesting stats so it is highly recommended to get this weapon. You can pick it up from the remains of the tail once it’s been cut off.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Seath will attack mainly with his curse beam attacks, the beam itself is easy enough to avoid, but it will leave behind crystals that will do residual damage so avoid staying around the area for too long. When he’s charging is also another good opportunity to run behind him and attack his tail if you missed the first time.
Avoid staying behind him for too long, as he’ll start thrashing his tails around and do massive damage. If you get caught try to run away quickly, this attack is unblockable. Lastly you’ll want to avoid his radial curse attack, he’ll to a great roar and unleash crystals all around him.
Its better to run away as far as possible to avoid this attack, even the residual damage caused from blocking can still do a lot of damage. Not to mention you’ll also be at a high risk of getting cursed as well.
Essentially your survival in this fight will depend on how much you can minimize the curse damage while dealing as much of your own damage as possible. Once he’s dead you’ll get 40,000 souls and a Bequeathed Lord Soul Shard.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Defeat Seath the Scaleless. Defeat Seath the Scaleless, inheritor of souls. (25G/Silver).
Act 6.
Kiln of the First Flame
Once you’ve gotten all the Lord’s Souls, return to the Firelink Alter and offer the This is the final stretch, Gwyn is just a few Black Knights away. Level up as high as you can, along with your equipment.
If you need to you can farm Titanite Chunks of various colors here from the Black Knights as they respawn here and you can get a lot of their special weapons here as well. You can use these weapons if you don’t have anything tough enough for the fight too.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
The area itself is pretty straight forward. You head through the newly opened door and through a spooky staircase. Which leads into a sea of sand, where you’ll encounter the first pair Black Knights. A regular and a greatsword Black Knight.
You don’t have to fight them both at once though so you can move through at your own pace. Once they’re dead, move on to the near by bridge.
You’ll see another Black Knight waiting for you, shoot at him from a distance to lure him to you. The bridge is quite narrow, and it would be pointless to go in recklessly when you’re so close to the end.
Walk across and take the first right to find a Black Knight set of armor. Then head back and continue along the path till you reach a staircase heading down.
Another pair of Black Knights will be waiting for you near the end, deal with them the same way you dealt with the others, these ones are an axe knight and a halberd knight.
Then you’ll come across the final white light, get as much healing and fire resistant gear as possible. Even though he is weak to pyromancy and sorcery, will be tricky to use here because of Gwyn’s speed and massive range attacks.
If Solaire survived Lost Izalith you can summon him before the fight to make things easier for you. While Gwyn is distracted with him you’ll be able to deal damage with some ease. When you’re ready head inside and finish this once and for all.
Act 6.
Gwyn Lord of Cinder
Gwyn is no push-over, His sword swings are fast, have wide range and all do massive damage. But unlike the other bosses you can block, parry and dodge a many of his attacks so you have some leeway.
Try to dodge and avoid his sword swings as much as possible, while they can be blocked they’ll take up a lot of stamina. But once he’s done attacking you can get in a hit or two, just don’t stay for too long your you could get caught in his choke attack.
The choke attack is Gwyn’s most powerful move, he’ll grab you then literally blow you away. This will deal massive damage, worst of all he’ll follow up with a dash or jump attack.
It is possible to roll under the initial grab, but once you get to the second stage of the move you’ll have to deal with it quickly or you’ll have to take all the damage.
Make sure to stay healed through out the fight, if your health ever goes under 50% you should probably heal quickly, you must also try to balance a strong defense with having mobility for yourself.
If you have Havel’s Ring you should be able to equip some heavy gear without losing speed. Also using Iron Flesh pyromancy could give you a boosted defense, but the reduced speed could be an issue with the grab attack so use cautiously.
Having a Cloranthy Ring from the The Great Hollow, the Grass Crest Shield from the Darkroot Basin, or even some Green Blossoms from the Crestfallen Merchant can also increase you stamina recovery. Use these if you feel like your stamina is running out too quickly.
Overall you’ll need high level equipment, healing and a quick reaction time to make it through this fight. At this point you should have all you need to defeat him. And once you do you’ll earn 50,000 souls and the Soul of Gwyn. Which you can use in New Game+ for forge the Great Lord Greatsword.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Knights Honor. Acquire all rare weapons (25G/Silver).
Now that Gwyn is gone, all thats left for you is to make a choice. Should you link the fire you’ll receive the “To Link the Fire” ending, otherwise if you leave Gwyn’s chamber you’ll receive the “Dark Lord” ending.
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: To Link the Fire. Reach “To Link the Fire” ending (90G/Gold).
ACHIEVEMENT/TROPHY: Dark Lord. Reach “The Dark Lord” ending (90G/Gold).
Once you’ve made your choice you’ll end the game and be sent into New Game+. All your items, except for the key items, embers, weapon and armorsmith boxes you collected will pass over to the next game. Whatever the outcome, you can rest easy, and congratulate yourself for beating Dark Souls.
