How to win multiplayer in The Last of Us with 3 tips

In a game where ‘run and gun’ tactics will almost certainly see you killed, every time, knowing the insider hints and tips for success could change a player’s fate dramatically in multiplayer modes. Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is a game loved by many whether in its original PS3 form or the remastered PS4 version, in which you have to make your way through an infested America fighting against the infested remnants of humans as well as other survivors. If you consider the campaign to be challenging, which is most certainly can be, then the multiplayer modes will really put your skills to the test. Instead of fighting against AIs, you will be put against other players in various 4 on 4 matches. The conditions are less than ideal in multiplayer modes, but little ammunition and few resources that the teams must squabble over will make for some tense and electric gameplay.

There are a total of 3 different multiplayer options in The Last of Us: Remastered, namely Interrogation, Supply Raid and Survivors. Interrogation explains the objective for itself, you and your team will need to attain and interrogate members of the opposing team in order to win. Rather than kill the 4-member enemy faction, you need to learn the whereabouts of their lockbox and then find it. But if you’re a more bloodthirsty player then the multiplayer games Supply Raid and Survivors will suit your style much better. Supply Raid will see you and your 4-member group complete the simple objective of taking out the enemy team. The main difference between Supply Raid and Survivors is the format behind the latter. Survivors takes place over a number of rounds, in which no one can respawn once killed. With these two alterations, the multiplayer experience in Survivors changes drastically. Regardless of how poorly you may play in round 1, there is still a chance to win by continuing.

Despite the differences between trio of The Last of Us: Remastered multiplayer modes, there are some features that are integral to them all. Rather than relying on a mini-map, you will find that similarly to the campaign in The Last of Us, you will be dependent on the hearing ability of your character. By pressing R2 you will be able to spot nearby moving players, ready for attacking or avoiding depending on your gameplay strategy. However it is important to note that this capability only has a short duration before the long cool down is activated and the other players will all have this ability too. Considering the multiplayer game setups in The Last of Us: Remastered, we have compiled a list detailing how you can win a multiplayer match in this epic PlayStation title.

Do not run! The sound-based radar that players will be working with is highly sensitive to movement, which you find to be both to your advantage and disadvantage. Looking at this from a winner view, it will be easy to detect the fools who run through the maps when playing with others in The Last of Us and particularly so if they shoot whilst doing so. Remember, the ‘run and gun’ mentality will be your downfall and the radar is why. If you’re particularly concerned about being detected, learn to crouch walk.

Improve your long to mid-distance shooting. When running leads to your demise, firing loud weapons will reveal your location to enemies even quicker. Therefore, shooting at enemies from afar will reduce the clarity of your location and if the opposition does see you, it will be more difficult for them to retaliate accurately. Although crouching below windows may give you some cover and a place to shoot from, some areas are deceivingly poor. Particular spots will look protective but allow your nametag to appear in the window above you, for all to see. So even if you think you’re the king/queen of stealth, check that your head is fully covered. The best way to know this is to make sure your character leans into the wall they’re hiding behind.

Be ready with a melee weapon. There will be occasions, even in the Survivor mode of The Last of Us: Remastered, when enemies come into close quarters. Once you feel a foe is too close to you, you will need to attack them but how you do so is up to you. Upgrading your melee weapons is a great idea when possible; by collecting the various ingredients from the boxes around the map you’ll be able to improve your weapons to potentially one hit KO status. Such a weapon will give you a large advantage in short-range combat, whether it’s an all-out battle or a sneak attack from behind.
