6 Reasons Why You Cant Play Destiny Raids

The intergalactic setting of Bungie and Activision’s latest project, Destiny, allows for a seemingly endless string of missions, public events and strikes. However players will come to find an ‘endgame’ point in Destiny, but that doesn’t mean to say the adventure is over already. Bungie has revealed that once Destiny players reach the initial campaign’s ending, a new element in the Destiny universe will open up. This activity, which is held off until the later stages of the game due to the claimed difficulty, is raids. Highly speculated upon, but hardly seen, the Destiny endgame raids are one of the most anticipated aspects of the extensive game. However, they are not without problems, which Destiny fans complain about before even accessing the ominous task of a Destiny raid. What could be that bad?

As previously touched upon, the Destiny endgame raids will be a clueless adventure for 6 Guardians to embark upon together. No more, no less. While there will be no matchmaking system in place to group hopeful Destiny Guardians together for the endgame raids, players will have to find their own companions for the epic tasks that lay ahead. This is the first hurdle on the road to Destiny raids, one that is much bigger if you don’t happen to have 5 friends who also play Destiny. However even finding 5 suitable friends will be a challenge.

Let’s consider the gamer who does have 5 friends that also enjoy playing video games and want to play Destiny. Despite the game being available on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3, Destiny has no cross-platform support. Consequently that gamer will only be able to play Destiny with all 5 of their friends if they all have Destiny on the same platform. Although friends may want to all buy the same console, to improve the chances of playing together, many will share the opinion that by purchasing different consoles, the friends will be able to play a wider range of games than if they all bought the same console.

But for the sake of playing the Destiny endgame raids, we’ll assume that the gamer and their friends will all have the same console and want to play Destiny. There is still some work to be done before they can take on the challenge that is a Destiny raid, even once they reach the level 20 soft cap. In the course of the day, the week and life, people have many distractions that will prevent them from being able to play Destiny. Whether it’s work or family life, sometimes gamers won’t be able to access their beloved PlayStation or Xbox console to take part in a Destiny raid. While that is an understandable point, it makes coordinating 5 friends, who all happen to have the same console, a tad tricky. Having been told that a single Destiny raid could take hours to complete, the gamer will find it difficult to organize a time when they and their friends are all free for a substantial period to play Destiny together.

These problems only occur if the gamer doesn’t actually have 5 friends who like playing video games, all have the same console and all want to play Destiny at a time when they are all free. Now the first of the problems with Destiny’s endgame raids becomes clear.

You all have PS3s? Step 1 complete

If you find you are part of the unfortunate group that struggles to match the requirement for playing a Destiny endgame raid, you’re not alone. The missing matchmaking system will make accessing the Destiny raids a challenge for many people, because unless you’re part of a particularly dedicated group the prerequisites are, quite simply, harsh. However you could still complete a Destiny raid by inviting the random players who appear in your Destiny universe to be part of your group, with the array of gestures your Guardian can perform to another. That is, once you have their attention without being able to talk to them….This may be harder than first thought.

With Destiny being released in little over a month’s time, we can only hope that Bungie find a thorough solution for the sheer number of people that will miss out on Destiny endgame raids, if the system remains as it is.
