Dogmeat is very iconic, and whether you like the cyber version or the new Dogmeat in Fallout 4, you can learn how to get and recover man’s best friend either at the Red Rocket Truck Stop, or use a little command key to find your friend when he gets lost and doesn’t return.

Once you start off in Fallout 4 you will start in Vault 111. When you leave and you want your four-legged friend Dogmeat by your side, head south-east to the Red Rocket Truck Stop and you will be able to retrieve your canine buddy. There’s a video from xBeau Gaming showing how and where to find Dogmeat and make him your companion.

Sure enough, it might be somewhat difficult to get there depending how you travel to the Red Rocket Truck Stop, but when you make it there you will get your first companion. Now the part that gets most folks when traveling about is losing Dogmeat and not getting him back.

Yes, it is possible to somehow lose Dogmeat and progress onward. But, you can get your canine friend back on the PC version by using some console commands. Thanks to Game Skinny, the publication site found the code to get Dogmeat back by using the Tilde key (~) on your keyboard.

For a long time PC gamers, they should know that this command key was used for codes like God Mode, Delta Q Delta and other helpful console commands. Well, in Fallout 4, users can find Dogmeat by its ID number of 0001d162, according to the source.

First open the console command by hitting Tilde (~) and type “prid 0001d162.” after that type “moveto player,” and close the command console by hitting Tilde (~). This will bring Dogmeat right next to you. Remember, this method of getting Dogmeat back after you send it somewhere will only work on PC, due to the Tilde or ~ key.

Now you can travel across the wasteland or the Commonwealth with your four-legged friend again, and if this happens later down the road, Tilde is the answer.
