How to reach Diablo 3s secret cow level Whimsyshire

Fans of Diablo 2 will spring to life upon hearing about the Secret Cow Level of the game and due to its raging popularity, the game creators at Blizzard have taken inspiration from it for Diablo 3. Now you’ll be able to venture into the secret level in Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition too! But the Secret Cow level hasn’t just been reused, sitting in the game waiting for players to return. Instead the striking secret level in Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition attempts to make players’ jaws drop even further. The new secret level in Diablo 3 carries a different name, the Whimsyshire level; but having seen the magical environment that lies ahead, it certainly will stop you in your tracks. The ‘improved’ Secret Cow level of Diablo 2 takes the form of a land filled with colourful unicorns. Not wanting to forget Diablo’s style, game creaters have made it so players can attack and slice the fictional beasts. As a mix of sugar-coated creativity and, well….Diablo is certainly makes for an unusual experience.

Whimsyhire, in spite of its subtle name (when compared to the Secret Cow Level), is still tricky to access in Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition, regardless of whether you’re playing on PlayStation or Xbox. But players should consider that as a good sign because the work you put into accessing the Diablo 3 unicorn land will be well rewarded. Once you make your Whimsyshire entrance, you’ll find a new sigil, banner and the Feat of Strength all become unlocked. Not only that, but you’ll become one step closer to the coveted 100% completion goal by attaining the The Land Of Killer Unicorns trophy when you step into Whimsyshire.

The process for accessing the secret unicorn level is slightly different for current gen consoles Xbox 360 and PS3 than that of next-gen consoles Xbox One and PS4. For either gaming generation however, Diablo 3 players will need to craft a Staff of Herding in order to reach Whimsyshire. Once players reach Act 4 of the game, they will discover the plans for the essential Staff of Herding by retrieving it when Izual drops it. The items that players need to make the Staff of Herding are found in earlier Acts of the game, hence reducing the number of barriers once you get the Staff’s plans. The following list details the ingredients you need for the Staff of Herding on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Black Mushroom
Obtain the initial item for Whimsyshire from the first act in Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition. You will locate it in the Cathedral during level 1.

Gibbering Gemstone
As you progress further through Diablo 3 UEE you will find the Gibbering Gemstone within the Caverns of Frost, once it drops from Chiltara that is. When you reach Act 3 of the game, make your way to the Fields of Slaughter, Ballistae fight area for the Staff of Herding ingredient. If you find yourself taking the Ice Caverns exit you will need to try again, sorry.

Wirt’s Bell
You’ll need to keep a firm grip of your pennies until you reach Act 2 in Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition, until you find Squirt the Peddler at least. Purchase the Wirt’s Bell from Squirt in the Hidden Camp area for a costly 100,000 gold to get to the unicorn land….eventually.

When it comes to playing on the PS4 and Xbox One, you will need to locate a couple more items too. First comes the Shinbone as you play through Diablo 3. You’ll need some patience to acquire this item as it spawns randomly in Leoric’s Manor, in the fireplace during Act 1. Before getting stuck into your item search, remember that in addition to the items needed to make the Staff of Herding, you will also need 50,000 gold. The second item required in next-gen platforms, Liquid Rainbow, can be obtained in Act 2 of the game. Exactly how you get it is a little more complicated however.

Liquid Rainbow
When you meet Zaven the Alchemist, you will eventually need to save him from some ghostly foes. Once you’ve defended the alchemist, he will then unlock the Mysterious Cave for you. If you’re lucky, the Mysterious Chest will appear in the cave and you will need to retrieve the Liquid Rainbow once it’s dropped from the chest. However, the chest does not always spawn in this location. When you’re frustrated with the lack of the Mysterious Chest, just remember the unicorns waiting for you in the Whimsyshire secret level of the game.
