Version 1.0 - 20/11/2011 Completed all the challenges. =============================================================================== ________ ________\ || \\\\ || THINGS TO KNOW ----> TTK0 ||______ //// ________/ BACK TO BASICS - After about 3 years of sim racing in the Shift series, we get back to the original arcade style racing. Which means that reality is significantly decreased and if you are feeling rusty after all the Shift experience, just start off with the multiplayer. CHECKPOINT CHARLIE - A new game and a new system - checkpoints and tokens. In the middle of the races, you will cross checkpoints and if you crash in the near future then you start back at this check point. But, this takes one of your reset token and they are limited. If you are out of tokens then you have to start the race all over again. I was a bit critical when I first heard of this because we never had anything like this in the NFS series so far. But, there have been changes to the gameplay and the modes of races which make this a good addition. MONEY AIN'T GONNA BUY IT !!! - Another thing that has changes is that you cannot buy new cars, instead - cars are unlocked as you complete the challenge series races and multiplayer. You can also win new cars in the story but those are few and far between. So, do not forget to gain new cars by playing the other modes too along with the run. Do you need it? I would say no till at least half the game, by then you will get bored with what you have and will want a change. DAMN! HIT THE RESET BUTTON... - The reset feature reminds me of the old sandbox which I used to have with cartridges when I was a little kid. We used to hit the reset button on the box the moment we screwed up and NFS is making us do the same again. The game will reset automatically if you do not qualify for the next check point, but if you want to do it manually then I suggest you run off the road or better yet, move in reverse and go back for a few seconds and the race resets automatically. Sure, we used to reset cars in the previous titles, but they did not need any tokens, so watchout for your token number. You have 10 tokens per race in the lowest difficulty and they keep getting less as the difficulty increases. FILL ER' UP - There is no garage for you to change cars. But, you will be prompted when you get near a gas station. Just move to the right of the road and get ready to go in, you do not need to stop or slow down, just drive in. The race gets paused when you are in the gas station so do not worry. You can select a car and it's color by doing this and this is the only way to do it. CALLING ALL CARS - So obviously, cops are bound to pick up some 500 odd cars racing from one side of the country to the other - no surprise there. There are no heat levels here. The density and intensity of the cops varies based on the track. As the game progresses the cops get better and bigger. Also, remember that if you cannot go thru the gap in the roadblock and are going to hit a car then release the accelerator and hit the break a bit otherwise, your car will get wreaked if you hit the other cars at full speed. LEVEL UP - BUNNY! - Levelling up is the oldest carrot for the horse trick that developers employ to keep you going. But, this game goes up a notch. We had all kinds of unlocks we could buy in the previous games. But here, a better tank of N2 is just a level up away. I mean, you cannot draft or slingshot properly till you get that level up. Each level has unlocks and I will leave it for you to find them out - it's a nice surprise what you will be getting next and I don't want to spoil it. =============================================================================== WALKTHROUGH WLK0 For the first time in the franchise, we get to play a protagonist with a face and a voice - Jack. Jack leading a carefree life has been nose deep in debt for a long time now. His pursuers finally corner him in a car dump yard and... You need to do a sequence of quick time hits to escape the car... Hit "Enter" to come to your senses... continuous space taps to free your right arm continuous space taps to free your left arm "Enter" thrice again to open the top left and right intermittently to escape the car Space continuously to climb out And finally we have a car, now let's show em' Track length - 3.5 KM Checkpoint - 2.2 KM Tricky Turns - 1.9 KM, 1.2 KM The mob starts shooting after you come to the point with 1.9 KM remaining. You need to avoid getting shot. You will get wasted if fired upon continuously and the game comes back to the last checkpoint, so avoid getting shot. The goal here is to survive, not out race them but out maneuver them. If you are getting shot and cannot go in front of them, then brake to let them move in front and go to one end of the road either the left or the right so that both cars are on one side and this keeps the gunfire at a minimum. A third car joins in at 1.2 KM, just speed away and keep going and don't stop for the train. =============================================================================== STAGE 1 - THE WEST COAST - WLK1 THE EMBARCADERO - San Fran (4 hrs later) After getting into the race of the century, it's time to get a car... I you purchased the limited edition of the game you will have two extra cars to choose from - Chevrolet ZL1 and a Carrera 911 S. I choose the BMW (yeah it's back from Most Wanted) just for old times sake. The Run Begins... 200 drivers and 3000 Miles - WOOO YEAH! Race to Nob Hill Track length - 2.8 Mil Time - 1:45 Checkpoints - 2.4, 1.6, 0.9 Tricky Turns - 2.1 Mil Cops - minimal Based on the difficulty you chose, there is a timer on top, so keep in check. You can get it very easily. The Cops show up but don't bother you in this part. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get to Las Vegas Track Length - 5.6 Mil Target - Top 150 racers Time - 4 mins Check Points - 4.7 Mil, 3.5 Mil, 2.4 Mil, 1.9 Mil, 0.6 Mil Cops - min Tricky Turns - 2.5 Mil Pretty standard race.The cops start coming in soon... and only one cop is after you. The cops have a health meter on top of them so you can get them easy. In the end is a roadblock and you can beat it by going from the left side of the road - get to the left side of the road at the last check point at 0.6 Mil. Beware of the traffic after the 1.9 mark. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Altamont Pass Rd Track Length - 6.1 Target - 195 Check Points - 5.7, 5.0, 3.8, 3.1, 1.5 Cops - No Time - No Tricky Turns - None After the 5.0 check point, you an take a shortcut to the right of the road. When you get to 2.1, all other racers show up in a line in front of you. Hit the N2 here to take a lead and watchout for the traffic in the end parts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Interstate 580 Track Length - 7.4 Target - 5 checkpoints Check Points - 6.0, 4.7, 2.8, 1.4 Cops - no Time - varies Tricky Turns - no The checkpoint race is where you need to get to one check point to the next within a certain timelimit. The time from one check point to the next changes as you cross a checkpoint. Use the N2 in the beginning itself to gain the extra speed but be careful not to lose too much speed around the traffic. Use the nitrous judiciously. This completes the West Coast. =============================================================================== STAGE 2 - THE NATIONAL PARK - WLK2 140 Hwy Track Length - 5 Mil Target - 8 positions (187) Check Points - 4.3, 3.4, 0.6 Cops - no Time - no Tricky Turns - no The first half of the track is very curvy and there is sand on either side of the road, don't get on the sand coz' you will lose control. There's a shortcut at 2.0 to the left of the road. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- El Portal Rd Track Length - 4.8 Mil Target - 5 checkpoints Check Points - 3.9, 2.9, 1.8, 0.8 Cops - no Time - varies Tricky Turns - from 3.7 The first part is very basic and then from the 3.7 mark, the road curves up like freaking noodle. Do not stray away from the asphalt, the sand can kill you so be careful not to move into the sand. In the final part also, you go thru a sand road and lateral movement can be difficult on high speeds so release the accelerator when making even a slight turn - don't shy away from breaking if needed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- El Capitan Track Length - 3.8 Miles Target - 6 positions Check Points - 3.3, 1.9, 1.2 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 0.6 The little traffic here can cause problems as opponents are very assertive. Just don't smash into anything and you will do fine. Also, try to build up a lead before getting to the turn at 0.6 as you may lose some time here. In the middle of the race you will get a gas station message. The station is to the right. If you don't know what it is then look in the things to know section of this guide. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tioga Pass Rd Track Length - 3.8 Miles Target - 6 positions Check Points - 3.1, 2.3, 1.3 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none Basically, this is the same track as the last race and without any changes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ellery River Rd Track Length - 5.2 Miles Target - 3 positions Check Points - 3.9, 2.1, Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - everywhere A new kind of race - battle race, you have to overtake and keep the lead over the next opponent within the given time. So, overtake the next car and don't let it pass. You will have to do this for each opponent and there are only 3. It sure sounds easy except for the road which is extremely curvy every few hundred meters. You will lose a lot of time if you cannot make the turns properly. You may need some practice. It is also critical that you take the shortcut to the left at the 1.2 mark. =============================================================================== STAGE 3 - DEATH VALLEY - WLK3 Panamint Valley Track Length - 6.2 Miles Target - 10 positions Check Points - 5.2, 4.0, 2.9, 1.6 Cops - none Time - none Tricky Turns - 5.9 This race mostly happens on dirt tracks with intervals of asphalt road. Pretty basic race, get the shortcut at 3.2 and while you are in the shortcut be sure to hit the N2 as the rivals are on asphalt and you are on the dirt which means that they are going to travel faster but your road is shorter so you will get at least some advantage. Junction Road Track Length - 5.5 Miles Target - 3 positions Check Points - 4.1, 1.9 Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - none A very straight track. The sand storm is not going to bother you much. The Gas station is at 4.2. There is a shortcut at 2.3. The track is pretty wide here so there won't be any danger of running off road and also, the traffic is pretty thin - ideal racing conditions. Old Spanish Trail Track Length - 6.7 Miles Target - 8 positions Check Points - 5.0, 3.7, 2.4, 1.1 Cops - moderate Time - NA Tricky Turns - none Another very easy race. You can pretty much beat all the others within the first 2 miles and the cops are not a threat at all. There's a big shortcut at 3.3 which should remove your cop threat - if you had any at all. If you miss this shortcut then there is another one at 2.8 which you can take only if you missed the larger shortcut. There is a road block at around 1.3 which has a glaring gap to the center right and also, you can go to the extreme left or right to avoid the cars. Rival Race Track Length - 5.1 Miles Target - 2 positions Check Points - 3.9, 3.0, 1.8 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none Your first rival race. Nikki and Mila, both are good (sic) drivers. So if you are playing on the higher difficulties then you may have a problem or two. There's a large shortcut at 3.5 LAS VEGAS Blvd. Track Length - 3.0 Miles Target - 10 positions Check Points - 2.0 Cops - flies on shit Time - NA Tricky Turns - none A little more cops but nothing too bad. Take the shortcut at 2.5 to get them off your back but as soon as you come out of the shortcut there is a roadblock so steer to the rightmost corner of the road to avoid it. From now, the cops will try to road block you every half a mile, but there is only one car that is blocking. It comes on the side of the road which you are currently on, so after you see a cop car move in at you in the map, move to the left or the right to avoid it, but be sure that car stopped to block you before moving. There's also a gas station at 2.0. Also, when you get to 1.5, you will see a shortcut. Take it and stay on the straight path. After you come out of the shortcut, there is a roadblock so stay to the right. Now, there are going to be roadblocks every few hundred meters and even if you hit one, you may lose the race. Thy to stay in the center of the road to avoid them. Northshore Rd. Track Length - 1.3 Miles Target - Get outta Las vegas Check Points - Cops - Insane Time - NA Tricky Turns - 0.9, 0.5 Stay to the left of the road to take the first turn. Do not go near the cop cars as they are blocking the other side of the road. Look carefully for gaps in the road block. Keep moving from the left to the right and vice - versa to confuse them. You will be caught no matter what you do in the end. You need to escape the cops now thru quick time events. It's mostly spaces and enters the first half. I will leave the QTE's for you since it is fun. But be quick. You are left to choose among three new cars - all great. The Porsche is the best (obviously) but I took the Gallardo just coz'. The Aston Martin V12 vantage is nothing less than the others, but if you are a new player choose Porsche and veterans know what they want anyway... =============================================================================== STAGE 4 - DESERT HILLS - WLK4 Northshore Rd Track Length - 5.5 Miles Target - 10 positions Check Points - 4.4, 2.9, 2.0, 1.4 Cops - Time - NA Tricky Turns - none We got a new car and a great track to try it out. Go ahead and push your new car to the limit, this track is ideal for it, without any hard turns or too much traffic. Hwy 169 Track Length - 5.3 Miles Target - 4 checkpoints Check Points - 4.1, 2.5, 1.1 Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - none And another easy track, just with a tad more turns. There's a shortcut at 2.8. You may have difficulty adopting to the speed and control of your new car around the turns but you will get over it once this race is done. Rockville Track Length - 5.8 Miles Target - 10 Positions Check Points - 4.5, 3.6, 2.7, 2.1, 0.9 Cops - minimal to moderate Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.1, 2.8, 2.4, 0.7, 0.2 A dirt track again, but you will have a problem only with the Aston Martin a little bit. The Gallardo and Porsche do real good even in the dirt and the Gallardo does the best on the dirt tracks - in terms of speed. The shortcut at 2.0 helps to beat any cops on your ass. Roadblocks start coming in from 1.2. If you cannot go thru the gap in the roadblock then just release the accelerator and break a bit when hitting a cop car or you will get wreaked if you hit them on full speed. Red Mountain Pass Track Length - 3.8 Miles Target - 6 Positions Check Points - 3.2, 2.4, 1.6, 1.0 Cops - moderate to heavy Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.1, 3.0, 2.5 onwards, 1.6 onwards A new type of police cars are on you. They have higher health than the last ones and are heavier but that does not make any difference to us. The roadblocks start coming in after 2.0. Watch carefully for the gap in the road blocks and go thru them. Loghill Track Length - 4.4 Miles Target - 4 Positions Check Points - 3.2, 2.1, 0.9 Cops - Heavy Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.7 onwards Concentrate on the opponents and not on the cops. If you mind the cops then you will have trouble finishing the race - remember that you are here to race, not to get highest bounty. The cops start blocking you in twos and you will have to go fro, between them, so slow down when you see two cars ahead of you because you will fly away of you hit them on high speeds. =============================================================================== STAGE 5 - THE ROCKIES - WLK5 Interstate 70 Track Length - 6.8 Miles Target - 10 Positions Check Points - 5.5, 4.3, 3.3, 2.2, 1.4 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none It's ice time. Although it doesn't really change anything, only the roads are a little bit slippery. Use your Porsche GT3 from now on - it's the best. The gas station comes to the right in the first shortcut as soon as you begin the race at 6.4. The rest of the track is pretty straight and fun to drive on. Glenwood Springs Track Length - 8 Miles Target - 10 Positions Check Points - 6.8, 5.7, 4.5, 3.6, 2.5, 0.8 Cops - moderate Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.8, 2.3, 2.1, 1.4, 1.1 This is a tricky track, the shortcuts shown on the map happen to be along the side of the road where the traffic is traveling against you. So, it may save time to go along that road but if you crash then you lose a lot of time. For the safe driver - don't take the shortcut at 7.7, stay to the right of the road The police comes in after you get to 3.0 and the road blocks are difficult to dodge all the time so you may need to hit and go thru a block or two. Just slow down and try to move from the left or the right corners of the road or try to go thru the gap. Route 82 Track Length - 5.9 Miles Target - 3 Positions Check Points - 5.4, 4.4, 3.6, 2.3 Cops - minimal Time - NA Tricky Turns - nothing too tricky for a Porsche... You are against a crew of 3 brothers and they work in unison sometimes so they are to watchout for. You actually see a copter come in but it does not do anything. It's a medical support copter - nothing to do with you. Aspen Track Length - 6.0 Miles Target - 5 checkpoints Check Points - 5.0, 4.2, 3.3, 2.4, 1.1 Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - none Just speed your way thru... Summit Track Length - 7.8 Miles Target - 1 Position Check Points - 6.5, 5.7, 4.8, 3.5, 2.1 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 6.9 Now this is what I call a fun race. Stay to the left of the road till 6.3 then move in close to the mountain. The rocks will not trouble you much but once you get to 2.0. Try to slow down because large boulders will start falling down which can wreak you car. =============================================================================== STAGE 6 - THE PLAINS - WLK6 Commerce City Track Length - 5.6 Miles Target - 6 Position Check Points - 4.8, 3.6, 2.4, 1.5, 0.7 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 2.3 Take the shortcut at 4.7. The rest of the road is wide open space with little traffic. Highway 20 Track Length - 5.0 Miles Target - 3 Position Check Points - 2.8, 1.5 Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - 1.4 I don't know why, but because the roads are narrow, this track feels weird to race on... must be just me. But, it is a very easy race again. Just try not to run yours;f off the road. Since the road is narrow, the turns need to be made slowly. South Dakota 44 Track Length - 6.0 Miles Target - 8 Position Check Points - 4.7, 3.5, 2.0 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 4.5, 4.3, 3.5 You are racing on the same narrow road again but no this one is not dangerous. Just do not get out of control with the speed because you ca easily run off the road. Take the shortcut at 2.8 and also at 1.5. Take the cut at 4.8, 3.8, 2.5, 0.8 to make the first place yours. Riverside Dr Track Length - 7.0 Miles Target - 8 positions Check Points - 5.8, 4.8, 3.5, 2.1 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none The shortcut at 4.7 helps, it's a huge shortcut. Nothing much to say either. Kennedy Expressway Track Length - 6.0 Miles Target - 4 positions Check Points - 4.7, 3.4, 1.7 Cops - none Time - varies Tricky Turns - none It's a freeway and you can hit top speed here. And if you go slow, you will lose. Just try to maintain speed. Lower Wacker (you are getting wacked...) Track Length - 1.3 Miles + 4.4 Miles Target - 1 position Check Points - none Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - Every corner is bad with this car... No you cannot win this race - boo hooo. Cops will catch you and its quick time events again, I will leave those to you, be quick... You get into a cop car after that. It's really not as bad as I thought it would be. But a chopper comes in at you and it's blazing all guns. Just keep moving from the left to the right and vice and versa. Do not stay in the copter's spotlight. After your car crashes, you are in QTE again. Choose up and right when you are given the option of all four directions. Just try another if one does not work but do it fast. You have three Audi cars to choose from. My recommendation - the middle one. All three have hard steerings so just take the one with the best BHP because all next races are going to need speed and there are no more technical curvy tracks, just freeways and expressways. =============================================================================== STAGE 8 - THE GREAT LAKES - WLK8 Downtown Track Length - 3.7 Miles Target - 6 positions Check Points - 3.0, 2.1, 1.0 Cops - minimal Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.1, 2.8 onwards Yeah lesser hard turns, but the change from your previous car to this one can be real drastic, especially if you were using the Porsche. You need to be very steady with the Audi - not slow, but steady. Use the breaks when you see a car infront of you because you cannot go around it easily. You have to move to a different lane from the car ahead of you early and also - again - break even in small curves so that you do not hit the walls which can reduce your speed real bad. You will get a feel of the car real soon, so just hold on. Watch the road and the road blocks after 1.0. Lakeshore Drive Track Length - 5.6 Miles Target - 8 positions Check Points - 4.5, 3.4, 2.2, 1.0 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none You will be used to the car by now and it'll get easier. Again, be steady and break and change lanes early. There are absolutely no hard turns here just a nice and straight road. But, you will still have trouble moving around the traffic if you are not used to the car by now. Don't drop your speed and don't hit anything. Interstate 75 Track Length - 5.6 Miles Target - 7 positions Check Points - 4.8, 3.4, 1.8, 0.8 Cops - none The Mob - minimal Time - NA Tricky Turns - none Staright road - fast and steady wins it !!! The mob comes back after 2.7. Dodge them but if you slow down, the race gets outta your hands - but you should have crossed all the other racers by now. Northwest Freeway Track Length - 5.1 Miles Target - 3 positions Check Points - 3.6, 1.8 Cops - none The Mob - moderate Time - varies Tricky Turns - none The Mob can cause all sorts of problems for you. Just try not to mind them and that means totally ignore them. Just move around if you are being shot. The mob puts up road blocks after 3.5 so look out for the black arrows on your map. Do not lose speed with the last opponent. Industrial District Track Length - 4.2 Miles Target - Lose The Mob Check Points - 3.5, 2.5, 1.9, 1.6, 0.6 Cops - none The Mob - insane Time - take your own time... Tricky Turns - you won't even care with the Mob behind you... You will always have at least two mob cars and a copter on your ass. The first thing you need to remember is the stay away from the copter's spotlight. The second thing is the stay away from the bullets from the Mob cars. You need to move around like a squirrel to avoid them. The road is straight till 3.5. You go into the core industrial area and the road is zig zagged so watch out for the walls so that you don't hit them. Outside, you will come onto the rail tracks and there are explosive barrels all over the place. You can see them from a distance and when you do, move to the other corner of the road to avoid them. The road is zig zagged again and then you will come out to normal road and then again into the industries at 0.6. Oh! if you did not see that last part then - CHOPPER TAKEDOWN!!! I was wondering when these cars would come out. 1 advice - Take the Porsche... ( A dog named Shevchenko? - Get real!!!) =============================================================================== STAGE 9 - STATE FOREST - WLK9 Expressway Track Length - 5.6 Miles Target - 8 Positions Check Points - 4.1, 3.0, 2.0, 1.1 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none Your first run with the Super car feels like you are soaring in the skies. Enough melodrama. This track gives you every opportunity to test your new car and push it to its full potential - provided you take all the shortcuts. Always keep a look out for the shortcuts. Otherwise, the road is pretty thin and you can really hurt the car if you drive on the edge (of the road I mean). Take the first shortcut at 5.5 and go into the shortcut slowly. The next shortcut is at 4.0 and then 3.0. Try to stay on the road after that and dodge the traffic. Interstate 68 Track Length - 6.6 Miles Target - 6 Positions Check Points - 5.3, 3.8, 2.2, 0.8 Cops - Heavy and very aggressive. Time - NA Tricky Turns - none It gets technical now with lots of curves and more cop traffic. Just slow down when you see a turn infront of you. The cops are even more determined now to take you down and can cause all sorts of problem if you relax. One interesting thing that happens is that the cops call in Elite Units in the end of the race but you don't see anything... maybe next time? Deer Park Track Length - 4.7 Miles Target - 1 Positions Check Points - 3.8, 2.7, 2.2, 1.5, 0.6 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 3.7, 2.8, 2.5, 2.4, 1.1, 1.0 This is a very technical track and has lots of sharp turns so go slow around the sharp curves. All in all, your skill is tested here. Sawmill Drive Track Length - 3.9 Miles Target - 5 checkpoints Check Points - 3.0, 2.3, 1.5, 0.9 Cops - minimal Time - NA Tricky Turns - many You see the Elite Units for the first time here - I really thought they would be more challenging. Once you get past the first cop, there is nothing to stop you, maybe a roadblock but nothing too serious. This is just a prelude to the coming events... =============================================================================== STAGE 10 - EAST COAST - WLK10 Defeat Eddie Cooke Track Length - 3.5 Miles Target - 1 position Check Points - 2.8, 2.1, 1.3, 0.6 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - all over the place. The final stage is on... This race is easy if you mastered the car you have. The turns can cause all sorts of problems. There is no traffic so take it easy and concentrate on making all the turns properly. Interstate 78 Express Track Length - 3.5 Miles Target - 3 positions Check Points - 3.0, 1.7 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none This and the next race are all about speed. The only thing you have to think about is speed... Union Track Length - 5.7 Miles Target - 3 positions Check Points - 3.9, 2.0 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - none - very wide roads... Need For Speed... Defeat Cesar DeLeon Track Length - 5.8 Miles Target - 1 position Check Points - 5.0, 4.3, 3.0, 1.7, 0.7 Cops - insane Time - NA Tricky Turns - none stand out. The cops will be all over you all the time. You may not even have the time to look at your opponent so just keep pushing hard. Take the shortcut at 4.0. As you get to the end, Cesar totally disappears and it's all about the cops. Take the cut at 1.6 to avoid the road block. Immediately after that, there will be three road block ahead. Go thru very slow, Cesar will not bother you now. Defeat Calvin Garret Track Length - 4.6 Miles Target - 1 position Check Points - 3.7, 2.6, 1.7 Cops - flies on shit Time - NA Tricky Turns - 1.4, 1.0 onwards This is a real tricky race. You may not be able to overtake or stay in the lead for a long time till you get to the absolute end of the race. So, stop worrying about beating him and concentrate on the cops instead. They are at their aggressive best in this race. It does not matter which shortcut you take. At 0.7 you will go out of the lane and onto the main road at which point, two cop cars will come in abruptly and you will crash into them if you don't move out. Just ahead at 0.5 is a shortcut which you need to take. More roadblocks in the end and that is it. Win The Run Track Length - 9.5 Miles Target - 1 position Check Points - 8.4, 7.7, 6.8, 5.8, 4.5, 3.2, 2.0, 0.5 Cops - none Time - NA Tricky Turns - 7.7, 3.2 A nice long race for the title. After you turn at 9.0, you will go thru the lanes and lots of cars cross you. And you are bound to hit them if you are not careful. Be real slow here. The opponent is not going anywhere - believe me and take it slow. Do not take any shortcuts in this race. At 6.8, you will go into the wrong side of the road and cars are coming against you. Be careful here. After 4.6, you are inside the subway. A train come in from the left, so move to the right. Then another one comes from behind you so as soon as you see the lane to the left come in, move to the left and another comes train comes infront of you, move to the left. After some times, another train comes at you, move on the inclination of the wall to the left and stay there. You will be out of this place shortly. After you fall onto the road, break hard or you will hit the buildings. At 2.0 you will enter a construction yard and you need to stay in the middle of the road because there are large crates alternatively to the left and right of the road. When you are back on the road, you will go head to head with Marcus. Hit the nitrous a moment after he does to beat him as watch him die a horrible death. The first few times, the cars are crap compared to what you have in the run but still, mix this and the story for a change because you get back to driving crap cars here. Just do not accelerate while trying to turn and when you get past the 1.2 mark, it's all downhill. Builf N2 till here and hit the whole tank on your way down to overtake all competition. Urban Muscle Medals: Platinum - 2:05 Gold - 2:10 Silver - 2:20 Bronze - 2:40 Track Length - 4.1 Miles Check Points - 3.3, 2.3, 0.8 Cops - None Tricky Turns - None Be careful what cars you choose, for the expert driver, just test it out with the cars that have bad handling (shown in the car stats in the car selection screen). Again, all turns are going to be bad if you do not leave the accelerator alone. It's all traffic after the 1.5 mark so watchout. The Pretenders Medals: Platinum - 2:08 Gold - 2:12 Silver - 2:20 Bronze - 2:45 Track Length - 3.9 Miles Check Points - 2.5, 1.2 Cops - None Tricky Turns - None The start should be good, but it is all uphill after the 2.5 mark so just save up N2 so that you can use it uphill. Also, start saving N2 as you stop going uphill because it is going to be downhill soon and you will want to go down full speed. Time Hunter Medals: Platinum - 2:09 Gold - 2:13 Silver - 2:20 Bronze - 2:30 Track Length - 7.2 Miles Check Points - 6.0, 4.7, 3.0, 1.5 Cops - None Tricky Turns - None The real challenge is going to start after the 4.7 mark checkpoint. Lot's of traffic and dodging traffic is the real challenge here, not the time. I found it easy to move to either the left or right end of the road and continue. Left side is better because the right side of the road has sand and your car won't speed up properly. Midnight Rush Medals: Platinum - 2:48 Gold - 2:55 Silver - 3:10 Bronze - 3:25 Track Length - 7.8 Miles Check Points - 7.2, 6.5, 6.3, 5.4, 4.6, 2.9, 2.0 Cops - None Tricky Turns - This is easy, just try not to take the shortcut at the 6.3 mark. After that it's just a nice and easy sprint race to the end, nothing much going on. =============================================================================== NATIONAL PARK - WLKB Mountain Men Medals: Platinum - 2:20 Gold - 2:25 Silver - 2:40 Bronze - 3:00 Track Length - 4.9 Miles Check Points - 3.4, 2.0, 0.4 Cops - None Tricky Turns - none if you take the short cut. Again, bad handling cars here so be careful when turning. There's sand on either side of the road which - as you know - slows you down, so stay on the asphalt at all times except ofcourse when you are taking a shortcut. The shortcut is at 1.9 miles and it saves you a ton of time, but it is a sand track so be careful not to swerve out of control. Offroad Mayhem Medals: Platinum - 2:20 Gold - 2:25 Silver - 2:40 Bronze - 3:00 Track Length - 4.8 Miles Check Points - 3.9, 2.9, 1.6 Cops - None Tricky Turns - none This is a bit of a technical track which requires technique to drive around. It is a fully sand track till the second half of the race and even then the road is only for a short while during which you will need to get into the lead. in the mud, try not to move around much, just go in as straight a line as possible, this is very important as you keep losing speed whenever you are hitting the turn buttons. You get onto the road at the 2.9 mark so save N2 from 2.5 itself and have a full tank of N2 ready. As soon as you get onto the road you have to and I mean, you just have to get to first position. You get back onto the sandy road at 1.6 and it is very important you have atleast a quarter of the N2 tank. In this part, the guy behind you always keeps coming near you and will over take you if you do not hit the N2 and get ahead of him. He will keep trying this, so use the N2 judiciously. Ford Challenge Medals: Platinum - 2:03 Gold - 2:08 Silver - 2:15 Bronze - 2:30 Track Length - 3.7 Miles Check Points - 2.9, 1.9, 1.0 Cops - None Tricky Turns - 2.9 It's all fords in this race. Slow down immediately after the check point at 2.9 because you will slide off the road if you are too ahead. There is nothing to note in this race. There is a small shortcut at 0.7 but taking it makes not difference at all. Tioga Run Medals: Platinum - 2:52 Gold - 3:00 Silver - 3:15 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 4.8 Miles Check Points - 4.1, 3.2, 2.4, 1.2 Cops - None Tricky Turns - everywhere The turns are back again! but if you take the shortcuts here, then this is bound to be the easiest race in the game. You can get platinum the first time you play. Slow down at the 4.1 mark checkpoint and go slow down the next turn, a shortcut is to the right just after the turn and it will put you in the forefront of the race very soon. The road gets straight after the checkpoint at 2.4 so get ready to shoot past everyone. Conserve N2 till you get there. There's another huge shortcut at 0.9 take it and it is easy pickings from here. If you are a new player in the NFS world then you should know that when taking the turns like in this race, break when entering a turn, stay slow till you get to the apex of the turn (center) and start accelerating out of the turn. King of the Road Medals: Platinum - 2:42 Gold - 2:55 Silver - 3:05 Bronze - 3:20 Track Length - 4.5 Miles Check Points - 3.5, 2.4, 1.4, 0.6 Cops - None Tricky Turns - 3.5, 3.4, 2.3, 2.1, 1.7, 1.6, 1.0 and after that... Take the first shortcut at 4.3 itself and you will be in the safezone for the entire race. You are in a McLaren and yeah it's fast and coming from the remaining races, you will feel a drastic change in the speed and control of the car so watchout. =============================================================================== K & N CHALLENGE - WLKC Filtered For Success Medals: Platinum - 2:50 Gold - 3:00 Silver - 3:15 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 5.3 Miles Check Points - 3.8, 2.6, 1.4 Cops - None Tricky Turns - everywhere You are absolutely going to just hate this race. And that is only because you have a car with nightmare handling and the road has pin curves all over. To win this race, you will need to learn how to turn with the menace you are driving properly first. You will need to repeat the race a couple of times before you are comfortable with the car. To turn properly, go in full speed and break very hard near the turn and release the accelerator while breaking. After that, do not hit the accelerator again till you are on the straight road or else, you will drift and this will waste a load of time. And then next part is about the N2. Usage of your nitrous is extremely critical to win this race. Do not keep hitting N2 after the turns, just go normally. Just use it for a fraction of a second to get a little speed and let go. There's a shortcut at 4.4, you need to take it and now hit the N2 full throttle. But when you get to the end of the shortcut, slow down and make a proper turn. Start conserving the nitrous again and after the turn at 2.8 release all the gas for a while and start building again when you get to the turns. When you get to the shortcut at 1.3 do not use the N2 till you get to the turn in the middle. The turn is tough to make if you are on high speed. After coming out of the turn, try to overtake all opponents as soon as possible. If you win this race then you will be able to play the game with any car and still win any other race. Death Valley Run Medals: Platinum - 1:40 Gold - 1:45 Silver - 1:50 Bronze - 1:55 Track Length - 4.8 Miles Check Points - 3.6, 2.4, 1.3 Cops - Heavy Tricky Turns - 2.9 You may have a little problem here with the track being very thin and your car getting very fast as it's all down hill a bit. If you cannot move past a vehicle slow down before hitting it, but it is best to break as soon as you see a car ahead of you. You have lots of times to complete this track. When you get to 3.0 slow down to make the turn or you will hit a wall. Try not to mingle with the cops even a little but. Try to ignore them completely. Battle in the Desert Medals: Platinum - 2:25 Gold - 2:35 Silver - 2:45 Bronze - 3:00 Track Length - 5.8 Miles Check Points - 4.8, 3.5, 2.5, 1.3 Cops - none Tricky Turns - 5.2, 4.9 You are against a Gallardo in a shit car. Surprisingly, since the road is not too curvy, you will find this race easy. If you pass the Gallardo, it will definitely overtake you again. So, look back and try to block the path. Blocking is easy as the road is narrow. Do not forget to take the shortcut at 2.4. That should seal the race. =============================================================================== NEVADA DREAMS - WLKD Dry Heat Medals: Platinum - 2:43 Gold - 2:55 Silver - 3:00 Bronze - 3:05 Track Length - 5.8 Miles Check Points - 3.3, 1.7 Cops - none Tricky Turns - 5.3, 4.9, 4.2 If I was a noob racer, the nI'd choose the Mitsubishi here. The first checkpoint is very far but after that, it'll be over soon. Outrun Medals: Platinum - 1:30 Gold - 1:35 Silver - 1:40 Bronze - 2:00 Track Length - 3.3 Miles Check Points - 2.4, 1.5 Cops - everywhere Tricky Turns - none Stay clear of the cops and everyhitng else is damn easy. Near 2.6 there is a roadblock but you should not go thru it, the turn is to the right of the road block. Everything else is pretty routine - roadblock, ramming etc. etc. Vegas Velocity Medals: Platinum - 2:24 Gold - 2:28 Silver - 2:35 Bronze - 2:50 Track Length - 5.1 Miles Check Points - 4.2, 3.0, 1.9, 1.1 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none A high speed track - you would only wish you had a high speed car, but the cars here are not that bad either. The roads are very wide here so you will have no problem making the turns except for the fact that you may run into a truck occassionally. Sin City Street Race Medals: Platinum - 1:35 Gold - 1:45 Silver - 2:00 Bronze - 2:30 Track Length - 2.7 Miles Check Points - 2.1, 1.5, 1.0 Cops - moderate Tricky Turns - 2.1, 1.5, 1.0 Easy pickings... Just stay clear of the cops. Lotus Battle Medals: Platinum - 2:55 Gold - 3:00 Silver - 3:05 Bronze - 3:10 Track Length - 4.3 Miles Check Points - 3.7, 3.1, 2.3, 1.4, 0.7 Cops - none Tricky Turns - everywhere There is nothing classic about a Lotus vs Lotus race, especially if your car cannot handle turns properly. The car can easily swerve out or control but all in all, it's an easy race to win. =============================================================================== DESERT VALLEY - WLKE Feel the Heat Medals: Platinum - 2:30 Gold - 2:40 Silver - 2:55 Bronze - 3:20 Track Length - 5.9 Miles Check Points - 5.6, 5.2, 4.4, 3.4, 2.4, 1.3 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none You are in a Lotus most likely. It's a decent car comparable with what the others have so you shoud have no trouble doing this. Just hang back and you will get them eventually. There is minimal traffic if any at all. Take the cut at 3.4. There really is no heat to feel... Hell On Wheels Medals: Platinum - 2:40 Gold - 2:50 Silver - 3:00 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 4 Miles Check Points - 3.1, 2.3, 1.6 Cops - none Tricky Turns - 3.3, 3.2, 2.6, 1.4, 0.8 This one's a bit tougher than the last race. Slow down at the pin turns so that you don't hit the railing - keep soing that because there are a lot of pin turns on this track. The Edge Medals: Platinum - 2:40 Gold - 2:50 Silver - 3:00 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 4 Miles Check Points - 2.2, 1.5, 0.9 Cops - none Tricky Turns - all of them are... A Shelby Cobra for us. It's a good car and can really take you through to the end in time - provided you know how to use the handbrake to drift. The handling on this car is given as "Expert". So, it cannot get any worse than this but it really is not bad once you get the drift of how it drifts. When making a semi sharp turn, just tap the handbrake while the accelerator is released to make the car slide around the apex of the turn. It really isn't that hard to get. Just go thru to the first checkpoint and reet the race a couple of times if you need to. You don't need any resets for this race anyway. Just break for small turns and slide for harder turns. You may even have to drift around the traffic The is one of the most fun races, once you know how to drive this car. Rally Challenge Medals: Platinum - 1:44 Gold - 1:47 Silver - 1:53 Bronze - 2:15 Track Length - 3.4 Miles Check Points - 2.3, 1.4, 0.6 Cops - none Tricky Turns - nothing noteworthy. This race leaves you with a wierd feeling. If you have't driven the Subaru before then you will not really get the "feel" of the car because you are driving it on a dirt track. This one leaves you empty. Dust In My Eye Medals: Platinum - 1:40 Gold - 1:55 Silver - 2:10 Bronze - 2:30 Track Length - 4.7 Miles Check Points - 3.4, 2.3, 0.8 Cops - none Tricky Turns - nothing noteworthy. A Benz SLS AMG, you really can't ask for more or better. It's like driving a piece of dark chocolate - yummy. Just break a bit around the hard turns but everything else is a piece of cake. You don't really need to take that turn in the end. =============================================================================== WINTER BLAST - WLKF Snow Battle Medals: Platinum - 2:40 Gold - 2:45 Silver - 3:00 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 5.2 Miles Check Points - 5.0, 3.8, 2.0 Cops - none Tricky Turns - Every pin curve. This is a funny track. It's got pin turns all over the place. The best car to use here would be the Audi. The Audi's control is perfect for sliding around the turns. But other cars slide more, where the Audi is useful is that you can hit the N2 as soon as you come out of the turn to get a boost unlike all the other cars which slide horrible off track if you hit the niutroud too early. So, hit the N2 early and save it for the next turn which is in a few hundred meters. Do not use the N2 on the straight part of the road. Use it only when you come out of a turn - this should be enough. Drafting help a lot for the first guy, but be quick. Ascension Medals: Platinum - 2:55 Gold - 3:00 Silver - 3:10 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 5.7 Miles Check Points - 4.8, 3.4, 2.4, 1.5, 0.9 Cops - none Tricky Turns - 1.2 Although we used Audi for the last one, this track does not have many pin curves, so let's get something more stylish. Try out the Lamborgini this time. It skids a lot more than the Audi, but is faster so it is ideal for this track. Just don't go into a turn on full speed, you can be at a fairly good speed, but if you get in too high, it will skid all the way to the walls. Use nitrous when you totally come out of the turn, if you hit it too early then you will lose control. Go in very slow into the turn at 1.2. Double Black Diamond Medals: Platinum - 2:30 Gold - 2:35 Silver - 2:50 Bronze - 3:10 Track Length - 5.0 Miles Check Points - 3.8, 2.8, 1.7, 0.6 Cops - none Tricky Turns - 1.0 onwards This is a nasty one - both the car and the track. You need to go into curves and turns very slowly or you will see yourself slamming to the railings and the walls too often. If you are skill full enough you can turn properly at high speed, it's ala about choosing the proper line to move into a curve. Try to stay in the middle of the track. You will hit a long stretch of straight road till 1.0. Be very carefull at 1.0, go in slow or you will be literally thrown off the road. It's all curves from now on so be careful and hopefully you have built a good enough lead to stay in the lead. All tracks in the Plains are very narrow and because they are so; you will have a bit of difficulty in all of the Plains challenges. It is best if you stay in the middle of the road and move around if you see an oncoming car. This one is not as hard as the next ones are going to be. Road Runner Medals: Platinum - 1:45 Gold - 1:47 Silver - 1:50 Bronze - 2:00 Track Length - 3.3 Miles Check Points - 2.9, 2.1, 1.5, 1.0 Cops - moderate Tricky Turns - 2.6 If you don't know which car to choose, then just take the BMW M3, but know that there are better cars than that. The cops have roadblocks set up for you, so when you get close to the first chechpoint at 2.9, stay to the left side of the road and you will go thru the gap. Another roadblock before 1.5, stay to the middle left of the road. You will have a helluva time finishing this one. Do not go into a curve at full speed, you will be thrown off the road and it will reset. Don't take the shortcut at 4.0, it's worse than the road. Be very very careful in the last one mile. It's a narrow road and there's traffic on both sides with the competition close behind you. The only way to get to the finish line is to drive from the right corner of the road with half of your car on the dirt. This track takes narrow road racing to the next level. You are forced to take the shortcuts (if you want to beat the opponents of course). Take the shortcut at 5.7 and enter the cut slowly but maintain good speed thru the dirt road and use N2 if you have to. Do not take the shortcut at 4.1 coz it may actually put you in a bad position. Go down the road and take the shortcut at 3.7 instead and be careful not to hit the shack when going in. Take the cut again at 3.1. Don't take any more cuts and be careful coz there's a bit of traffic after 1.5. Oncoming Medals: Platinum - 2:33 Gold - 2:45 Silver - 3:00 Bronze - 3:30 Track Length - 6.7 Miles Check Points - 5.5, 4.1, 2.8, 1.5 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none The name of the race is what the race really has - no kidding! All traffic is against you throughout this race and so you have to be carefull thru-out the race. Driving from the middle of the road is living dangerously. Drive from one of the corners of the road and if there is a car straight ahead move your car a bit out of the road. Stay to the right of the road after 1.8. After 2.7 till 2.0 the cops set up road blocks in a zig zag manner so go around them. It's really easy and there is nothing special about it. Take care to break enough for the sharper turns. My recommendation is the BMW but if you prefer something else then it is entirely up to you to decide. The cops keep coming in and set up instant road blocks. You don't have time to hit them so you just have to evade the roadblocks and it may take you some time to get it - especially with the last opponent. For the last guy, stay to the left of the road and after crossing the first block, move to the right to avoid oncoming traffic and then move left again to avoid another roadblock. The last roadblock is very tricky since there is traffic all around the place but the left of the road is sort of roadblock free but it has some traffic. Interstate Loop Medals: Platinum - 3:08 Gold - 3:15 Silver - 3:25 Bronze - 3:45 Track Length - 8.0 Miles Check Points - 7.0, 5.7, 4.6, 3.4, 2.0, 0.7 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none A Golf GTI - made in 1972 with a top speed of 166. But even with this car, it is a very easy race and you would have to be a really bad player if you can't win this atleast in gold. You don't need to take the small shortcuts in the beginning - they are narrow and the traffic can be problematic. Don't take the first shortcut, instead go for the one at 1.1. Tunnels and Trains Medals: Platinum - 1:22 Gold - 1:24 Silver - 1:27 Bronze - 1:35 Track Length - 2.9 Miles Check Points - 2.1, 1.0 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none This is supposed to be the shortest race but something is inherently wrong with this track. When you get to the train tracks move to the left near the train that is moving and hit the N2 to get in front of it and move left. If you are too slow then the train would have crossed and covered your entry. In the last part of the race you will need to zig zag around explosive barrels and your car will explode if you hit more than a single barrel. If you see barrels spread all over the road then go to the extreme left or right. You just need to know where to move and where the gaps are so it may take a run or two to finish this race. The choise of cars is also very important and the best car to choose is the first Nissan - 240Z. Industrial Strength Medals: Platinum - 1:30 Gold - 1:40 Silver - 2:00 Bronze - 2:30 Track Length - 4.5 Miles Check Points - 3.8, 2.0 Cops - none Tricky Turns - none Stay to the extreme left or right to avoid oncoming traffic. This Pagani is different than the one in the last race and handles much much better. The cops set about half dozen roadblocks in a straight line. The best thing to do is stay in the middle of the road and make subtle movements to the car so that it does not hit anything. You don't even need any resets here, but the last part may need a vouple of resets - again, just stay in the middle of the road and make small movements. In the middle when you get onto rails, in the last rail tunnel you can drive on the inclined plane to the left of the rail track and if you do this, the car speeds up like hell and this can get you some valuable time. Get thru the first two parts and save some time to slow down in the last part. =============================================================================== Fin
