Grand Theft Auto V – Misc [Guide]

Grand Theft Auto V is a game that is absolutely massive. This is the stuff that may get overlooked and swept under the radar by players, but some of it is also required for 100% completion.

For those that just want info on the story and the bulk of the GTA V experience, please use this guide:

While players can’t become morbidly obese like they could in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, GTA V does allow for more appearance customization than Grand Theft Auto IV did.

Players are able to change their clothing, their haircut, and even get tattoos for the three main protagonists, Franklin, Michael, and Trevor.

=========
CLOTHING
=========
Each of the three main characters can purchase clothing from these stores:

Enema
Ponsonbys
Bincos
Caca
Vangelico
Brawls Los Santos

HAIRCUTS
=========
Numerous barbers and hair stylists are at your disposal in GTA V. Each of the three main protagonists are able to get their own haircuts and styles at the locations for a price, though some of the haircuts are free. On the map, places where you can change your hair are designated by a scissors icon.

These are the different businesses that will provide these hair services to you:

Beachcombover Barbers
Bob Mulet
Herr Kutz

The following is a list of all the hair and facial hairstyles available for each character and the how far each look will set your wallet back.

TATTOOS
========
At some point after unlocking the ability to play as Trevor, tattoo parlors become available to visit. On the map, they are represented by a black heart with a sash in front of it, which is basically just a generic tattoo. Tattoos can be added and removed instantly, but removing a tattoo will cost to replace if you want it back.

On the map, a Los Santos Customs appears as a black spray can icon. These locations are very useful as they can help you instantly lose the cops (they operate as a Pay ‘n Spray). In addition, they can be used to modify and customize cars and motorcycles.

A car must be in perfect condition before it can be customized. A repair fee will probably be required most of the time you enter, but it is usually only a few hundred dollars at most.

Grand Theft Auto V is a game all about violence. These are the tools of the trade, for lack of a better term, in GTA V. To purchase these weapons, visit your friendly neighborhood Ammu-Nation store, represented by a black pistol icon on the map.

These weapons can also be modified at Ammu-Nation for additional cost.

=========
FIREARMS
=========
A lot of your time in GTA V is spent shooting guns. Because of that, it’s best that you acquaint yourself with them early on and remember to always have plenty of ammo handy just in case.

NOTE: There are plenty of empty slots on the wall of the Ammu-Nation stores, even if you have every weapon in the game. If you go to these empty slots, a blurb pops up about DLC, meaning that new weapons are going to be added as DLC in the future if Rockstar so chooses.

MELEE
======
When guns aren’t the answer, violent melee weapons probably are.

—>KNIFE<—
Standard issue knife. Use for closer range melee targets.

—>NIGHTSTICK<—
Has more range than the knife, but doesn’t kill as fast as the knife does.

==========
EXPLOSIVES
==========
Nothing says “I love you” like a nice, incredibly dangerous explosive device. This is why GTA V makes the perfect gift for Valentine’s Day, because there are just so many of them in this game! Incredibly dangerous explosive devices create incredibly dangerous explosions most of the time. Learn which ones you’ll need mostly when committing crimes in GTA V.

—>GRENADE<—
Honestly, the grenades in this game are pretty useless. They are completely outclassed by other weapons available that you gain just as early if not earlier than the grenades anyway. The only thing I really used grenades for the entire game was to kill myself to fast-travel to a hospital.

—>STICKY BOMB<—
These explosives are much more useful than grenades, and not only that, but they are required for multiple missions in the game. They can be placed on both vertical and horizontal services alike, and can be detonated from a safe distance by pressing “left” on the d-pad. Plus, as many of them as you can carry can be placed at once, making them very useful in some situations.

BODY ARMOR
===========
In the later story missions, the firefights become more violent, more frequent, and much more difficult. You can carry all the firepower in the world you want into any given situation, but it’s always a good idea to go to each mission with a full set of body armor.

Here is all the body armor that can be purchased in the game, listed from weakest material to strongest:

OTHER
======
This is a guide for all the other stuff in GTA V. Well, here’s all the other stuff for the weapons information inside of the guide about other stuff. GTAception.

—>PARACHUTE<—
Not really used in combat purposes directly, the parachute can be purchased from Ammu-Nation nonetheless. They can also be found lying around specific areas of the map. Entering any helicopter or plane will automatically equip players with a parachute, for the most part.

—>TEAR GAS<—
Tear gas can be used to stun enemies and get an advantage on them. That being said, I never used it once during my entire time with the game, and if I did, I can’t even remember. There are much more useful weapons available.

—>JERRY CAN<—
Gasoline cans can be purchased and then used to create a trail of gasoline on the ground. That gasoline can then be lit up by shooting the trail. The fire that results from that can blow up vehicles or just catch things (or people) on fire or whatever else.

A few properties are only purchasable by specific characters, and those are marked below. The price of each property is the first number, whereas the number that follows (and any other benefits) are listed as profit.

The most expensive property is, by far, the golf course.

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
The game is called Grand Theft Auto. There will be a lot of grand theft auto-ing in the game. In GTA V, players can fly planes and helicopters, drive boats and cars, and more.

Players can purchase vehicles through online websites on their in-game smartphones or just steal them off the street. The following is a list of all the vehicles in Grand Theft Auto V.

The numbers in parentheses represent the amount of passengers any of the given vehicles can hold. Certain boats will give you SCUBA gear by entering and exiting them. All planes and helicopters will automatically equip you with a parachute upon entering them. Most off-road vehicles (mainly ATVs and dirt bikes) will give you the option to change into a MOTO X outfit back at your safehouse’s wardrobe, though this only needs to be done once with each character to permanently have access to the clothes with them for the rest of the game.

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Franklin’s buddy Lamar gives him Chop fairly early in the game. At that point, Chop appears on the map whenever controlling Franklin as a dog bone. Chop will be at whatever house is Franklin’s main pad at that point in the game.

Chop can be trained using the iFruit app that can be downloaded on your real world tablet or smartphone. This mini-game of sorts plays out kind of like Nintendogs in how interaction is done with Chop.

Chop is a part of getting 100% in-game completion. You can play fetch with Chop by throwing a ball and having him fetch it. This is accomplished by going to his bone icon on the map, which will then initiate a walk with Chop. To equip a ball, the ball will be in place of explosives when walking Chop.

After equipping the ball, toss it, Chop will retrieve it, and then end the walk with Chop in order to satisfy the requirement to get 100% completion.

- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are cold-blooded males. They have, uh, certain needs, which can be fulfilled in a number of different ways in the world of Grand Theft Auto V.

Besides strip clubs, which are discussed at length in my Hobbies and Pastimes guide, the trio are also capable of taking the strippers home for sex as well as picking up prostitutes. Both of these activities are required to get 100% completion in Grand Theft Auto V, and this is how to do them.

============
BOOTY CALLS
============
Before one can answer a booty call, they have to get a stripper to like them. Approach one of the strippers at any of the clubs, then use the d-pad to accept a private dance with them. At that point, the goal is to make the stripper fall in “like” with the character, which is represented by the “like” meter in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

To build this meter up, you need to flirt with the stripper while they’re doing the dance. You can also put your hands on them to build up the meter faster, but when doing this, keep an eye on the bouncer that is just outside the door. As soon as they pop up, stop touching the stripper to avoid being kicked out.

You’ll probably have to pay for two dances, but that’s okay. After paying for the two dances and filling the “like” meter up all the way, the stripper will ask for you to take her home. Exit the strip club, get a car, and then meet up with her in the alley.

Drive the car to her house and walk her to the front door. Then the sex happens. And it’s quite a lengthy session of it as well.

Prostitutes are a different story, as they are even easier than the strippers! It’s just a matter of finding them on the streets. Prostitutes can be found at any point, but they are most common at night time and in the worse neighborhoods. The southern streets of Los Santos and the areas around Franklin’s house are good places to look for a hooker.

Hookers can be spotted based on their attire and behavior Most pedestrians are actively walking on the sidewalk, or if they aren’t, they are waiting to cross the street or something. Prostitutes will be dressed, well, like prostitutes. When you drive up close to them, they will do little flirty dances and such. Then just honk the horn or use the d-pad to get the prostitute in the car.

After that, find a nice, secluded area away from public eyes. Then you have three choices for buying the prostitute’s services. After picking your choice, the sex will commence. This will satisfy the requirement for 100%.

Those without any trepidation regarding murder can then kill the hooker and get their money back and then some.

A game within a game of sorts. Players are able to purchase stocks in various companies and then sell them at a profit.

Throughout the course of the story, Lester will ask Franklin to carry out various hits that are strategically planned to influence the stock market. During these moments, Lester will offer stock advice. Heed his advice and you’ll be rolling in dough.

There is one achievement regarding stocks. All the achievement is is to make money on the stock market. This is really easy. Just buy a stock that is in the red, and chances are it will be up the next time you go to sell the stocks. Of course, if you just follow Lester’s advice throughout the story, you’ll make plenty of money on the stock market.

For entertainment, players can watch TV or visit the movies. To watch TV, just find the television in the house and the couch in front of that television. Then you can just sit there, flip through the channels, and watch the in-game television shows for as long as you’d like.

The movie theater costs $20 for entry per person. On the map, movie theaters are marked by a camera icon.

Like most GTA games, GTA V features a series of vehicular stunts that can be completed for bonuses. In this case, you don’t have to complete all of the stunts to get 100%.

================
UNDER THE BRIDGE
================
Get a small helicopter and then use it to fly under the bridges in the game. To locate the bridges, it’s as simple as opening up the map. I recommend trying to do this in a very ordered fashion and keeping track of all the bridges you’ve already hit to make this less frustrating.

In order to get 100%, you have to pass under at least 25 bridges. There is a total of 50 bridges, however. There is an achievement/trophy tied to this, which is called Close Shave, that requires you to fly under every bridge in the game as well as complete all 15 Knife Flights, which I will go into next.

KNIFE FLIGHTS
=============
Knife Flights require players to turn the plane sideways and fly between two buildings. There are numerous building pairs, 15 total, and once again, I recommend keeping track of each one that you have already completed so it doesn’t get frustrating when trying to get all 15.

The buildings to do this with are located in the Los Santos city area only. It is fairly obvious where these buildings are located, as they are just two buildings next to each other with enough space to move between with a plane. I highly recommend using the Mallard plane for these as it is the easiest plane in which to pull off these stunts.

Another thing I recommend doing before tackling these challenges is to attend Flight School. Flight School will be of invaluable help when learning how to do the knife flights to begin with, plus you need to do it to get 100% as well.

Only 8 Knife Flights are required for 100% completion, but all 15 are necessary to get the Close Shave achievement.

STUNT JUMPS
============
As is tradition with GTA, GTA V continues stunt jumps that are dotted throughout the game world. By gaining speed and ramping off these jumps, players can complete the stunts. There are 50 in total. It’s fairly obvious when you come across a stunt jump.

You HAVE to land on all four wheels for a stunt jump to register. If you fail, just keep trying until you get it. Fast cars and Franklin are recommended for these challenges.

In order to get 100%, you only have to complete 25 of the stunt jumps.

TIP 1
For Stunt Jumps, I recommend using a motorcycle for the vast majority of them. It is just easier to keep a motorcycle from flipping over or worse during the big jumps. However, if the jump requires you to gain some distance or serious height, then you’d better stick with the fastest cars possible, as it is tough to get even a fully upgraded motorcycle up fast enough to nail these jumps.

TIP 2
Another thing to keep in mind when attempting these is that I found, upon landing, if I held in the right trigger to accelerate, it was more likely to say I completed the jump. I tested this out, and even if I landed perfectly and in the exact same spot, but held LT, it would say I didn’t do it. If I repeated the feat and held RT, it said that I did indeed complete the jump. Just something to keep in mind if you can’t seem to nail one of the particularly tricky ones, even if seemingly perfect jumps.

Once again in one of these guides, these activities just don’t fit well in any of the other categories. Only one of these is required for 100% completion, but all three are considered Misc. Activities.

===============
HOLD UP A STORE
===============
What this means is not just hold up any old store. Instead find a convenience store that can be entered. As soon as you enter the store, equip a gun and point it at the shopkeeper. They will then start putting cash in a bag. Cops will show up shortly after that, but there is a decent amount of time to get in your car and escape.

RIDE THE CABLE CAR
=================
Out in the mountains is a cable car that allows you to get to the top of the highest mountain in the game. This is incredibly helpful when doing some of the extra activities like finding all the spaceship parts and whatnot. The cable car is clearly marked on the map in the northwestern part of the desert.

Simply get in one of the cars and use the d-pad to ride it to the top! Be aware that there is a fee to use the car.

USE THE CAR WASH
================
And finally, to get your car nice and sparkly, you can use the car wash!

For the most part, most of the people in your contact list you can hang out with. Doing quite a few of these activities is required for 100% completion. To initiate these hang outs, simply call up the person in the phone (bring up the phone by pressing “up” on the d-pad), and then choose the activity.

These are the activities that are possible to do with friends:

[ ] Visit A Bar*
[ ] Visit the Cinema*
[ ] Visit the Strip Club*
[ ] Play Darts*
[ ] Play Golf
[ ] Play Tennis

*required for 100% completion
