Top 10 Best PlayStation 4 Games of 2015

Update: We've completely revamped this list to better reflect the releases of 2015 for the PlayStation 4.

Sony’s really made quite a comeback after the PS3 lagged behind the Xbox 360 and Wii in sales last generation. Not only is the PS4 selling better than the Xbox One and Wii U, Sony’s also been getting a lot of positive press thanks to among other things the company’s stance on used games, them being very good at bringing indie developers to their platforms and just straight up having a lot of games that people want to play.

2015 is looking like a strong year for the PS4, with something for just about every everyone, from AAA heavy-hitters to significantly smaller but no less good or fun indie titles. With that in mind, here are some of the PS4 games that we’re the most excited for in 2015.

Feel like some title was left out? Tell us in the comments!

10. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Treyarch is back in the Call of Duty seat for 2015, and they're bringing their talents to the fore with Black Ops 3, the third episode in the on-going Black Ops storyline that first began in 2010.

Designed for a new generation of consoles, Black Ops 3 takes all of the improvements from Advanced Warfare, such as its exosuit capabilities, and introduces all new elements of co-op and special abilities to be used in the game's main campaign. Multiplayer's also gotten quite a bit of an overhaul and fans of the series will have a lot to look forward to with the title.

9. Mad Max

Originally a tie-in to the movie Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max is an open-world action game developed by Avalanche Studios, the studio behind the excellent Just Cause series of games. Not much of this has been shown, but the concept of a giant post-apocalyptic sandbox action game in the Mad Max universe sounds really fun, and the fact that Avalanche is behind it just makes it all the more exciting.

Mad Max is coming out sometime in 2015.

8. Just Cause 3

Just Cause 3 is the third entry into Rico Rodriguez's stunt and action-filled world of mayhem. Developed by Avalanche Studios, which is also the developer of the Mad Max game featured on this list, Just Cause 3 is set to take place in a fictional Mediterranean island and homeland to Rico's mother. It's a place that has been beset by a tyrannical dictator bent on taking over the world, and only one man—that's Rico—can stop his plans for global conquest. Rico plans to stop him by doing what he does best, which is blowing stuff up.

True to the series, players will be able to traverse through a vast open world environment and blow tons of stuff up in the game. Coupled with an upgraded grappling hook, current-generation graphics and improved physics, Just Cause 3 is everything we've ever wanted out of an open-world game.

7. Dying Light

Dying Light is Techland's latest foray into the first-person zombie-slasher genre, following their success with Dead Island. Dying Light is a whole lot better than Dead Island and its expansion pack, and it shows that Techland has very much grown as a developer of quality console and PC games.

Dying Light combines first person combat action with Mirror’s Edge-inspired free-running techniques that allow players to traverse through the city as they please. With regards to the combat, attacks feel solid and heavy and stunning blows even cause the bones of zombies and humans alike to crack—presented in a visual spectacle of an x-ray shot reminiscent of the latest Mortal Kombat game.

6. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

It would be easy to simply write ”It’s a Metal Gear Solid game, you either like it or you don’t” here and leave it at that, but after seeing just how different and fresh the fifth installment is via Ground Zeroes it’s looking like The Phantom Pain may be the best MGS game yet.

From a bigger focus on freedom of choice when it comes to tackling missions to a completely overhauled movement system and even awesomely silly things like being able to have an eyepatch-wearing wolf as a partner, The Phantom Pain may just be the shot in the arm that the now 27-year old Metal Gear series needs.

5. Batman: Arkham Knight

Batman: Arkham Origins was a bit of a misstep for the Arkham series, and left many Batman fans disappointed. A lot of people attributed that to the fact that it was the first game in the series not developed by Rocksteady, but now they’re back with Arkham Knight. Set a year after the events of Arkham City, the final Rocksteady-developed entry in the series sees Scarecrow uniting all of Batman’s enemies to take him down once and for all.

Now with a Batmobile, improved combat, a map five times larger than the one in Arkham City and the new villain the Arkham Knight, it’s looking like Rocksteady’s going out with a bang.

4. Star Wars Battlefront

If you're anything like us, then you've been waiting a decade for the next Star Wars Battlefront. Developed by DICE, which is known for its Battlefield series of games, Battlefront is a fresh new take on the Star Wars setting, allowing players to take on the roles of soldiers within the Rebels vs. Imperials conflict made famous by the series of movies.

Playable in both third and first person mode, with up to 40 players, Star Wars Battlefront is one of the biggest games to look out for this year. Watch the video to find out why we're excited for this one.

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

PlayStation fans are finally getting their hands on a Witcher game, and it’s looking like it might be the best one yet. Monster-slaying Geralt of Rivia - one of the titular Witchers - is back once again, older but certainly not weaker. This final installment sees him dealing with the Northern Kingdom being invaded by the Nilfgaard Empire and the otherworldly threat of the Wild Hunt, spectral riders that have plagued humankind for ages.

With a huge open world, an all new engine capable of breathtaking visuals and complex gameplay systems and the climactic end to the Witcher saga, The Witcher 3 is shaping up to be an excellent game.

2. Bloodborne

From Software’s been going strong ever since the critical and commercial success of Demon’s Souls and its spiritual successor the Dark Souls series. Bloodborne looks to be the natural evolution of that very special formula of hardcore action RPG, now with much faster movement, dashing instead of blocking, the ability to use guns and a gothic setting.

1. Fallout 4

Fallout 4 is the biggest surprise of the year. Announced just a week prior to E3 2015, fans of the Fallout series of post-apocalyptic roleplaying games were treated to the reveal of one of the most highly anticipated games of all time.

Sequel to 2008's Fallout 3 (Yes, it's seriously been that long), Fallout 4 features all new customization options, combat systems, and even base building. It's basically everything fans have ever asked for from a Fallout title, and then some.

Watch the video above to see why we're so excited for the game.

Bonus Entry: No Man's Sky

No Man’s Sky took everyone by surprise when it was announced at the VGX awards back in 2013. A sandbox game about exploring alien worlds where just about everything is procedurally generated sounds like an incredible idea, and the fact that the development team consists of only four people is really impressive (it has space dinosaurs, for god’s sake!).

What little gameplay shown so far looks really impressive and exciting, and we can’t wait for more. Here’s hoping it lives up to the hype.
