If you choose the Summoner variation for Quan Chi, you get to summon a Netherrealm Bat. As silly as that sounds, the Netherrealm Bat can actually prove to be quite useful in dealing chip damage to your opponent. The Bat will attack during Quan Chi’s combos and normal attacks, giving you a slight boost in damage output. The only drawback is that you’ll have to summon the Bat again after it disappears. As long as you’re not too close to your opponent, you should be able to summon the Bat quickly enough for another attack. The good thing about Quan Chi is that he has a number of moves that push his opponents back, giving you plenty of time to summon the Bat.

The Sorcerer variation allows Quan Chi to act as both a buffer and a debuffer. This variation gives him the ability to either augment himself, or to cripple his opponents. As a Sorcerer, Quan Chi will have a number of special moves that can hit various parts of the screen so you’ll want to get better acquainted with his move set in order to figure out which attacks you should be using, depending on where your opponent is. Trapping your opponent is key to getting the most out of the Sorcerer variation; once you’ve gotten your opponent locked down, this can pave the way for devastating combos that may ensure your victory.

Warlock Quan Chi is probably the most annoying version of him in Mortal Kombat X. For your opponent, that is. With this variation, Quan Chi can conjure portals which add additional attacks. While Quan Chi does need some recovery time before he can conjure the portals again, this ability gives him a lot of reach as he’ll be able to grab his opponent from anywhere on the screen. By dropping your opponents in and out of Quan Chi’s portals, you can easily start up a juggle without having to use a launcher attack. Do note that the Portal Grab is blockable, so you’ll want to save this move for when your opponent least expects it.

Quan Chi is one of my least favorite characters in Mortal Kombat, primarily because of how silly he looks. But even I can’t deny how badass his X-Ray attack looks. The attack has Quan Chi fling a projectile at his opponent, meaning you can hit them with the attack even from full screen distance, before jumping into a portal and leaping out from the other side with two skulls in hand. He smashes his opponent’s head in with the aforementioned skulls before throwing them into another portal, dropping them on the ground, and stomping on their neck. Very brutal stuff, but this X-Ray attack certainly makes full use of those inter-dimensional portals Quan Chi has at his disposal.
