Gameplay
Evolution Highway is an endless runner where the main goal is to survive for as long as you can despite the obstacles and other creatures that are standing in your way. Your character has a very limited moveset, as all he can do is jump and stomp at certain enemies. Doing anything else, however, will result in an instant death. Along the way, players can pick up powerups that will help your character endure more challenging parts of the game, and currencies earned can help in upgrading these items to increase their effectiveness.

Currency
Coins are the only currency within the game. These are earned by collecting them during your runs, and can also be acquired via in-app purchases. Coins are used to purchase upgrades to powerups, buy new skins for your runners, as well as skip challenges that you don’t want to complete. Thus, the more you grind for coins, the more likely you will be able to run with ease in succeeding playthroughs.

Obstacles
Several obstacles will block your path, and some of these can be stomped on while others will have to be avoided outright. Skeletons and spikes would need to be jumped over, while red dinosaurs like triceratops and pterodactyls must not be touched. Green creatures, on the other hand, can be attacked by dropping on them either by jumping and stomping on them or by dropping down from an elevated position.

There are also time vortexes that, when touched, will automatically end your run. Make sure to note which objects you should steer away from in order to be able to run the farthest possible distance.

Powerups
During your run, players will be able to pick up and activate powerups that will be able to help them for a limited amount of time. These include powerups that will slow down time, rockets that will shoot your character a considerable distance, shields that will make you immune to damage, Viking hats that will allow you to beat all creatures by charging at them head on, magnets that will attract and collect all coins within the area automatically, and many more.

The duration of these powerups can be increased by spending coins, with the amount going higher the more you upgrade these items. These are the main ways by which you would be spending your coins, and this will also be a great help especially if you are reaching farther distances and the speed of your runs have already greatly increased.

Wings
Wings are items that can be used should a player die during a run. This will resurrect your character, allowing you to continue the current round without losing any progress. Wings can be rewarded at the vortex mini game, along with coins, and can also be purchased outright using cash. Players will also earn 1 wing each time they are able to collect a certain amount of coins during a run. However, players should take note that the wings requirement to revive will increase each time you use it in a round.

Bonus
During their runs, players will also encounter flying letters. Once all letters have been collected, this will spell the word “bonus” and will then give players access to a vortex mini game. This will require the players to trace the gift as it is placed in one vortex, and players will have to determine as to where it has been placed as the vortexes switch places with one another. Items like coins and wings may be awarded if you are able to choose successfully.

Challenges
There are several challenges available within the game. These may include requiring the player to collect a certain number of coins within the game or stomping a specific number of green creatures. Some would need to be completed within a single run while some can be done cumulatively across several rounds. Only three challenges are available at a time, with more opening up as current ones get completed. Players also have the option to skip these objectives, although the cost in coins is pretty high.

Completing challenges will fill up the meter on the upper left side of the main screen, and this will give players the chance to access other locations and sceneries with more obstacles and even more challenges.

Achievements
Like challenges, achievements are special objectives that can be met within the game. Almost all of these tasks can be completed through normal play, although getting out of your way to complete the said tasks can also be done. Achievements serve no other purpose aside from giving players a sense of completion and satisfaction by getting all there is within the game.

Costumes

Players may also purchase different costumes for their characters. They can also switch between male and female runners, depending on their preferences. As costumes will cost a lot of money, players are discouraged from spending coins on these unless they have maxed out their powerup upgrades, and also since costumes are simply aesthetic changes and do not help your character perform better in any way.
