Roadmap
Stage 1: Play a New Game Delete
Play through the game for the first time and enjoy the madness. You're going to die a lot. Don't let it get to you though. The more you play this game, the better you will get. Dying isn't detrimental to the experience and it will actually help towards getting
KARMA and
GENOCIDE. Even when you die, enemies you killed count toward your total. Neat.
You'll spend most of your time here in Stage 1 (of the Roadmap) learning the levels and learning how to manipulate enemy AI to your benefit. You should also pick up and kill an enemy with every weapon you come across to make progress towards
A BOX FULL OF SHARP OBJECTS. It'll make your life a lot easier down the road.

Use chapter select to freely clean up the large amount of miscellaneous trophies and grab some extra kills. Once you're done with that it's time to start score attacking the levels.
With the initial story run complete and the vast majority of miscellaneous trophies out of the way it's time for you to work on

Tips & Strategies
General Gameplay Advice
- Don't be afraid to die. Experimenting with your kill routes and learning how enemies behave is absolutely vital to conquering this trophy list. This can't be stressed enough.
- Stick to corners. Corners give you a massive advantage while playing. Either by luring an armed (gun-wielding) enemy or by simply letting you get the drop on unsuspecting melee enemies. For example: A good strategy against gun enemies is to play peek-a-boo until they spot you and quickly hide behind a corner. Wait for them to turn it and annihilate them. Playing into the enemies aggressive nature is key to being successful in the Hotline Miami universe.
- Learn how to bait enemies using your various tools. This is essential to high combos and completing the more difficult levels without much hassle.
- Tagging walls with gunfire will usually, usually--draw enemies out from that specific room. It works a little different compared to Hotline Miami 1 where if you fired a gun you pulled nearly every enemy in the screen. Not the case in 2, gunfire is your friend here and the key to A+ in more than a few levels. Causing enemies to rush you instead of you rushing them is a much safer more reliable tactic.
- Don't bother with ground executions. Ultimately nerfed from Hotline Miami 1, they're slow and will often be the cause of your combo to drop! That said, sometimes they're unavoidable and use them as a last resort if you think you can save it.
- If an enemy gets unintentionally knocked down by a door you only have a few options to try and save the combo. There is the "sitting up" position you can melee with a weapon or shoot and it will kill. If that isn't an option going for the ground execution as soon as possible is the only thing you can do. Some are fast enough if you react to it quickly such as knife or machete.
- AK-47, Uzi, and Flamethrower are hands down the best guns in the game. High rates of fire and lots of ammo mow enemies down with absolute ease. Shotgun gets an honorable mention at long range because you can effectively snipe with it. If you're lucky you might get a double kill. It's generally too slow to be useful in closed quarters environments though so be weary.
- Lean your punches and melee swings in. Don't "retreat". You're safer leaning into enemies with your attacks. Character movement will become second nature by the time your done with your first run of the game.
- Rewinding a level through the start menu will re-arrange enemies a slight amount. Small difference in enemy placements can make a big difference in a fast paced game like this. It will also change their weapon set-ups. You can technically rewind farm for an easy top tier weapon such as AK-47. Note: A melee weapon enemy generally won't suddenly spawn with a gun and vice versa.
- Fat Man enemies can only be killed by gunfire or the lethal fist / execution method.
- Use to observe your surroundings at all times and learn enemy routes. Learning who will be where, when is very important to combos and maintaining your personal safety. Hotline Miami 2's levels are gigantic and off screen gunfire headed your way is a common enemy you need to adapt to. Being as observant as possible helps with this.

Difficulty Specific
For this trophy you have to complete the game on hard mode. The levels are mirrored and the enemy layout is remixed and or grown in numbers. Level design is altered with the single-minded goal making it more difficult. There are more windows for enemies to take potshots through or detect your presence. Enemies also react noticeably faster so some deaths are completely inevitable. They
will react quicker than you can on occasion. You'll just have to bite the bullet and accept that cheap deaths
do exist in this game. Especially on Hard Mode.
There's a reason this is saved this for last in the guide Roadmap. You
will need to put everything you learned to good use. This is a challenging difficulty mode that requires a lot of patience, more trial and error, and a little bit of luck. The remixed levels are
cruel. Corner strategies are your best option in this mode and the key to making the more insane levels easier.
One final note: There is an upside to this game mode though! You don't have to worry about rank. You can play as safe and as stealthy as you want. As much is allowed by the stages design. To top it off if you do happen to A+ a stage on Hard, it will count towards
1-800-GODDAMN.

DON'T LET ANGER GET THE BEST OF YOU
Clear all of the Writer's levels without killing
15.28%
Rare
Complete the Writer's levels without killing anybody. This trophy is actually pretty simple despite its description. The writer starts out as a Non-Lethal / Brawler type character and has a "rage" mechanic if you make him kill. To make absolutely sure you get this, when you punch an enemy and go on to do an execution, make sure you only do the basic execution. If you see any blood (that's not your own, the writer tends to survive bullets sometimes) then that means you've messed up. You should be incapacitating enemies and not murdering them.
If you mash punch on top of the goon, the writer loses control of himself and bashes the poor fellows face in. If you kill two enemies, you go into "Rage Mode" and become Lethal. You gain the ability to use guns and melee weapons become lethal. If you do happen to accidentally kill someone simply replay the level for your non-lethal run.
It should be noted that in Scene 5: First Trial there is a Russian goon at the entrance you HAVE to kill in order to progress the story. Writer then tries emergency CPR and fails. He doesn't void the trophy since there's no way to complete the level without accidentally killing him.
The secret level named "The Abyss" counts toward this trophy as well. Details found under
STARE INTO THE ABYSS.

Time for the grind. The best place to do this is in
Scene 17: First Blood. You start outside a building with 15 enemies on the first floor exactly. What you want to do is rewind until you get an AK-47 on the guy in front of the door. Barge in, grab the AK-47, and go to town. Leave one enemy alive on the first floor to kill you so you get a quick respawn. Rinse and repeat until the trophy unlocks. With any luck, you'll have amassed around 30,000 - 35,000 kills normally and you won't have to grind here long. Below is a short video for the exact strategy.
