How to play Lords & Knights: Medieval Strategy MMO for iOS: FAQ and Beginner’s Guide

It’s a game with one of the most convoluted app names in recent memory, and it’s kind of old, but Lords & Knights has a LONG shelf life for an iPhone and Android game. Over a year later, this game is more popular than ever, all due to its slow and simple yet deep and complex gameplay. If you’re a beginner or you just want to brush up on what you missed out on, keep on reading.

First, the basics. You’ll be prompted to pick a world to start play in when you begin the game. This is an important choice, as some worlds are more full or more empty than others, and different worlds speak different languages. Luckily, you can do it over again and switch worlds later if you get stuck in the wrong world, or if you just want to play on multiple accounts at the same time. Once you pick your world, tap on the center of the screen to get started.

After you begin the game, you’ll end up at a screen staring at a castle, not really sure what to do next. Tap on the button in the upper left hand corner or on the “castle” button for a list of all of your necessary buildings. Tap on the names of each one of them to find out what they do, then tap on the hammer icon to begin an upgrade. You can upgrade two buildings at a time, unless later you decide that you want to pay in gold to make it go faster.

All of your buildings will be at level 1 when you begin, but you’ll also have two weeks in beginner protection, which prevents other kingdoms from attacking you, but also prevents you from attacking other kingdoms. Use this time to work on upgrades. The top toolbar right below your kingdom name shows you how much of all of your resources (wood, stone, ore and food) you have, and it’s not many, so start upgrading your wood store, food store and ore store first in order to begin preparing yourself and stocking up.

Next, it will be time to train soldiers using the resources that you have built up. Use the arsenal to train your first round of Spearmen. These are the only soldiers that you can train at first, but in part 2 of the Lords and Knights beginner’s guide we’ll teach you how to train all of the other ones first. Then we’ll move onto other parts of the game.
