Destiny guide: Mars Gold Chest locations

destiny_gold_chest_locations

Destiny includes a second set of collectibles in addition to the Dead Ghosts, and the Gold Chests offer more than story and bragging rights, because they’re filled with sweet loot.

Opening a single Gold Chest will grant you a better-than-average reward, and occasionally a specific item, but collect the whole set in a location and you’ll receive something extra special.

If you follow our Destiny walkthrough you’ll find all five Mars chests as you explore; the numbering we’ve used here matches the walkthrough.

Here’s how to find the five chests:

Mars Gold Chest #1

The first Gold Chest is accessible as soon as you land on Mars. From the spawn point in the Barrens, follow the track until you pass a circular bunker, near the entrance you take in the first Mars story mission. The chest is in here, sitting quite openly on some crates almost directly opposite the entrance.

Mars Gold Chest #2

You can attempt to collect the second Gold Chest in the first room of the Iron Line entering from the Rubicon Wastes. You need to climb up on the big blue pipes, then to the platform above and to one side of the huge central doorway. You then hop across the tiny platforms in front of the doorway, aiming for the opposite platform. In order to reach it, you’ll need to jump out and then use double jump to change direction and sing back in. This is a nightmare and you are welcome to swear tat it is impossible, but I did it so now you have to. Once over, just walk a few steps into the corner of the room to grab it.

Mars Gold Chest #3

Travel to Tharsis Junction and find the area with several trains. Start at the end furthest from the Vex gates, and travel along the train lines towards them, exploring the rooms on the left side. You should find a room with a couple of crates against one wall and not much else. Stand behind the crates and you should be able to see and hear the chest behind a wire fence. Search this wall of the room for a gap in the fence through which you can access the chest via a narrow corridor.

Mars Gold Chest #4

Travel from the Barrens to the Hollows and stop your Sparrow at the last turn before you exit the tunnel. Look up, and you should see a hole through which you can jump to access a false ceiling. The chest is immediately obvious once you get up here. If you’re having trouble, walk along the interior wall of the corner and you should hear it jingling, which will help you figure out the correct platform to aim for.

Mars Gold Chest #5

The final Mars chest is in the Dust Palace. Entering from the Hollows, follow the path a few steps to the corner filled with sand, then turn left and head to the doorway directly opposite – you’ll need to make a little detour around a sign that blocks your view. The room here has a large reception desk and the chest is directly behind it. You’ll hear the jingling if you’re in the right place.
