Chapter 11 - Kung Lao
The two make it into the Tower only to find Noob Saibot and Sheeva waiting for them. Liu Kang takes Sheeva and Kung Lao squares off against Noob Saibot.
Kung Lao has some interesting attacks. From his Teleport (Down, Up) you can throw (Front Punch), Punch (Back Punch) or Kick (Front Kick). You also have some control over his hat when you throw it (Away, Toward + Back Punch). Take some time and review his move list, there is a bit there that you will want to know.
Noob poses an interesting threat as he fights using shadows of himself and many teleporting moves. This demonic fighter can be a challenge to deal with so be careful until you find a way to lay into him. Another to watch out for his is attack that can disable blocking, it is hard to see but still, dodge! Be sure to use your Spin attack, as it is a great defense against Noob's various teleport based attacks.
After the fighting is over, Kung Lao tells the Demonic fighter to be grateful that he does not kill him there. Still, there is something familiar about Noob to Kung Lao. He turns and finds Liu Kang having some trouble with Sheeva and he makes to aid his friend. Unfortunately, someone chooses then make their second appearence, Goro.
This fight is harder, then again, it is against Goro. Remember, most first hits of combos will be absorbed without stunning him. Use fast attacks and keep some distance, taking advantage of Kung Lao's various ranged options.Remember that any time Goro jumps, he is using a Stomp attack that can daze and hurt Kung Lao. Played right this is a quick fight.
Once you beat Goro, Kung Lao will demand, on Gor's honor, that he tell them what has happened to Kitana. The Crown Prince tells them that she has been taken to the Colussiem where she will be publically executed.
The scene changes to Ermac really beating up Johnny Cage. Ermac claims victory over Johnny Cage. Raiden informs Kung Lao and Liu Kang that both Smoke and Johnny have now been beaten and it is up to them to win this tournament. Raiden tells Liu Kang that in spite of his vision, Liu Kang may need to fight. Liu Kang is angry, telling Raiden that he is not "He Who Must Win". Shao Khan challenges Raiden to put forth a champion. Kung Lao starts to step forward but stops, waiting for the Thunder God's approval. He gives his nod to Kung Lao. Shao Khan announces that he will fight both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. The sorcerer is obviously uneasy with this pairing but Quan Chi is all confidence.
Quan Chi is brutal with his close range teleporting attacks. He is harder to nail down than the shape shifting Sorcerer you have fought multiple times at this point. Against this pair, try to put Kung Lao's Teleporting attacks to good use. Expect this fight to take a try or three.
After the battle, it is time for Kung Lao to square off against Kintaro. This more Feline version of Goro is a good fight himself. His air borne stomp attacks cannot be block and this follow can breath fire too. Just like Goro, most first hits can be absorbed thanks to his white flash. Keep your combos short and fast here.
Once you take out Kintaro, the crowd is not happy. Kung Lao turns to Raiden to announce the freedom of earthrealm when Shao Khan comes up from behind and quickly snaps his neck. Raiden is enrage, readying his powers. Liu Kang runs forward and delivers a blow to Shao Khan.
Shao Khan, like Kintaro and Goro has a stun guard effect so keep that in mind when fighting this monster. His numerous shoulder charge moves are nothing to scoff at, so keep on your toes for them. His Hammer Throw cannot be blocked successfully, it will still stun you so jump over it if you see it coming. A large number of his attacks can stun you too, making this a harder fight than most. The good news is his X-Ray attack is very obvious and a jumping charge too, making it easy to interrupt or avoid. If it hits though, it can destroy you as it does just over 50% damage. Also, many of your ranged attacks, like the Fireballs can sometimes cut through his guard. Staying within Melee range and jumping all around him works fairly well for a round at least. You may also find that Sweeps and Uppercuts can be very effective, sweeps especially immediately after X-Ray attacks.
That will conclude the second Tournament. Liu Kang finds an empty victory with his friend Kung Lao dead. Liu Kang takes Shao Khan's life in retribution. Kitana joins Liu Kang. Raiden looks at his amulet to see it is still broken, yet further damaged.
