This level begins with Max, Passos and the gang discussing the possibility of a hostage negotiation. The kidnappers want money, plain and simple. They’ve sent a note requesting millions of dollars in order to ensure the safety of Fabiana. In the end, they will decide to go ahead with the negotiation. Max and Passos will volunteer to take the money to the kidnappers in order to ensure Mr. Branco’s safety.
The next scene will involve Max and Passos meeting up with the kidnappers in a soccer stadium. They will rush out with guns and force Max and Passos to drop their weapons. Things seem to be progressing okay when Max tosses them the cash. Suddenly a shot will ring out and Max will take a hit. Someone in the nosebleeds is firing down on the field at you. You will have to run across the field to the safety of the locker rooms, where Passos will be waving to you. If you don’t get out of the field on time, the sniper will tear you apart.
Follow Passos deeper into the locker room as Max monologues. Passos will take cover on a corner ahead and attack an enemy as Max watches, helpless. When Passos finishes off the enemy, he will take his gun and proceed ahead to make sure the coast is clear. As Passos approaches the next cover point, Max will point out a bloodstain on a laundry cart ahead. The man with the bag of money must have been shot too. You can follow his blood trail through the bathroom to hopefully catch up with him. Try to keep up with Passos as he leads you through the bathroom.
As you reach the other side, he will tell you to wait by the corner. He will then rush through a set of double doors and you will hear gunshots ring out. When you get through the door, a cutscene will initiate. Passos will be safe and sound, and he will lead you out into a practice court. You will have to find an infirmary in order to treat Max’s wound. Luckily, one is nearby. Passos will lead you inside and bandage your gunshot wound. He will also hand over some Painkillers. As he treats the wound, he and Passos will discuss a potential plan. Passos suggests that you simply must make sure that the right men get their hands on the money. That means protecting the thug with the gun.
Unfortunately, a group of thugs will run in searching for you and Passos before you can finish discussing the plan. Max will take cover automatically. Pop out and activate Bullet Time. Go for headshots on all three of the enemies entering the room from the left, and then turn to the right to find a final enemy or two coming in from your other side, by the soda machine. Leave cover and follow Passos across the practice court. Head over to the fallen enemies to collect ammo and a shotgun, if you are so inclined. When you’re ready to move on, head out the exit to the left and through the elevator by the bloodstained double doors.
A cutscene will trigger and Max and Passos will ride the elevator up to the top of the stadium. Again, you should follow Passos. He will run through a group of double doors and find an injured man in a chair. He will begin to interrogate the man in Portuguese. You will have the option of shooting the man here, which will kill him immediately. Passos will reprimand you for murdering the man while you are working. Otherwise, you can simply watch Passos pressure the man’s bullet wound and attempt to interrogate him that way. Either way, you won’t get much information of use and the man will die.
Immediately after this cutscene, a group of thugs will rush in from the doorway to the right. Find cover as quickly as you can. A cart and a soda machine to the back left of the room will provide decent cover and a good vantage point for you to see all of the enemies from. At least one of the enemies will likely try to take cover behind the podium in the front of the room, so shoot him before he can reach this good piece of cover. After the battle, run into the recording room for a little piece of commentary from Max and then run through the doorway where Passos is taking cover. Run down the hall. An enemy will pop out from the second door to the left. Kill him and run into the room to find the game plan room, where Max will make more comments.
After leaving the hallway through the doorway by the soda machine, head through the double doors at the end of the next hall and proceed up the stairwell. This will lead you towards the next area, the next checkpoint, and the next, much harder, battle.
