Kisk Cave is a small tunnel that delves into the cliff wall Southwest of Raguel Lake and comes back out onto a platform just South of the entrance to the bridge. While this is one way to get to Raguel Lake, it is infested with monsters. What’s more, the plain approach up the hill is infested with Mechon. There -is- an Ether Deposit in the cave, though....
Kisk Cave and Platform Monsters
Monster Levels: 13-17
Arachno- More Arachno lurk here, oddly enough. It’s as if the area can’t decide whether giant ants or giant spiders are more appropriate. There aren’t a lot of them (unless you trigger the quest ambush) and they aren’t much special. Pack fighters as usual, they are sound-aggressive, so if you’d rather skip fighting them, just walk. If you fight them, watch for webs, and that’s about all.
Varieties: Leg Arachno
Vang- Batty batty bat. Not much to say here- look, more Vang. They aren’t terribly interesting outside their ability to lower your Ether Defence- not that you care with no Ether attacks incoming.
Varieties: Gust Vang
Tirkin- The platform is positively rife with Tirkin. A strange mixture of aggressive and passive, the Tirkin here spend most of their time waddling around and chirping. As with most Tirkin encounters, you need to be careful of drawing the ire of all the Tirkin at once. Most of the Tirkin here are ranged or partly-ranged attackers, which makes running around and Sharla kind of important if you come up here. While the Archer and Spear Tirkin are passive, they are pack fighters, and will jump you in an instant. The Javelin and Brave Tirkin aren’t pack fighters- but they will aggro on sight, which makes the whole thing one giant mass fight that it’s almost impossible to avoid if you fight any one creature here. While this wouldn’t be too much of a concern given their moderate levels for the area, the sheer number of Tirkin makes this dangerous.
Varities: Archer Tirkin, Brave Tirkin, Javelin Tirkin, Spear Tirkin
Raguel Lake Approach Monsters
Monster Levels 13-17
Mechon- Thankfully few of these Mechon bring anything new to the table. Unfortunately, all of them are sight-aggro, and all of them are pack-fighters that will back up all of the others. This is alleviated by their being split into three or four groups of roughly four Mechon apiece, with the occasional flying Scout wandering between them. The taller M64 walkers are the biggest and most offensively powerful, while the Scouts mostly exist to pester you. The Tripod M53s are a bit more interesting, being highly durable and mobile, as well as able to aid the M64s in knocking you down. Still, no startlingly threatening status effects here, just minor debilitation. Generally, it’ll pay to use your attack menu to draw one or two of them off at a time if you’re roughly the same level. If you’re level 21 or over, though, you can just run in and tear them apart with little difficulty, even undergeared. Just remember to Monado Enchant at the start of the fight and you’ll be fine.
Varieties: M32 Scout, M32, M42 Scout, M53, M64
