Scheduled Maintenance is coming according to the Game of War blog:
Game of War is undergoing scheduled maintenance on Monday, December 7th between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM PST or December 8th 5:00 and 11:00 UTC.
The game is expanding and will be undergoing network maintenance. This means improved stability and better performance.
I'm really really glad Game of War is now doing scheduled maintenance. The game has gotten so incredibly huge that it's time to start have scheduled maintenance instead of unpredictable shut downs.
All massive PC MMOs and even League of Legends with 27 million active users have weekly maintenance to ensure the quality of their games. I don't know if GoW will be doing this weekly just yet, but they might be.
It's great step for Game of War to be taking right now as some of the most popular events like the Coliseum and Super Wonder are becoming larger than ever before.

And let's not forgot we can all take a brief break from the game with the free shields and return back to some glorious Athena gifts.
A game wide active Peace Shield will be applied to all player accounts for 24 hours. Upon login the Peace Shield will be disable.
Any active Peace Shield or Boost(s) will be extended by 24 hours
Exclusive Athena's Gifts will be granted to all Empires
All in-motion Marches will be recalled
All Wars and Rallies will be cancelled
