Dragon Friends: Green Witch is a dragon collecting, island management game by Innospark, the developer who you might know by Hero Sky: Epic Guild Wars, their previous game.
Dragon Friends: Green Witch is rated 4/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while also having a 4/5 stars rating on it’s most downloaded version on the Apple App Store. As for most other games in the same style, this one is also very popular, but does it do anything special to differentiate itself from the crowd? That and more is what we’ll find out below.
Dragon Friends: Green Witch has similarities with other dragon themed island management games, but it also has various things that make it stand out. The first thing you will realize once you start up the game is the fact that this game has story included in it more than most other games of this type. Once you start the game and get to the island, you will immediately get to know about the situation of the evil Green Witch and the Shy people, who are in trouble.
As you progress in the game, you will get to know more and more about the story and some of your more important actions will even have story reasons behind them. You get a task to buy a fire dragon egg for your island? Why is that so? Oh, because the Green Witch wants to attack your island, but a level 10 fire dragon will scare her off!
Of course the story aspect is just a small part of the game, it’s main focus is on the gameplay. You are taught most things in the game by quests, which all work somewhat like tutorials, but even when you already got the basics, you will still get a lot of quests to aid you around, so you should never feel clueless about where to proceed.
The game’s main gameplay element is getting dragon eggs and hatching them. You can get most of the eggs by buying them for gold, gems or hearts in the shop, but there are some rare dragons you can only get in special events or occasionally during holidays. Once you reach level 30, you will also be able to adopt dragons from other players.
When starting out in the game, you will only need the most basic dragons as you level up and you are not forced to purchase more. Your basic dragons are Tree, Earth and Fire. Each dragon has one or more elemental types as well, which you can always check out in it’s stats. There is also a nice surprise for new people, a mystery egg in the middle of your island, which you can hatch later on and will contain a random rare dragon.
Probably among one of the most favored features of the game is breeding, of course. You can breed your dragons by choosing two of them to be parents, then sending them to the Breeding Garden for a few hours. You will get an egg in the end, which’s elemental types will be a combination of the parent dragons’ elements. So if you breed your Tree and Earth dragons, you will get a Wolly dragon egg, which is a combination of Earth and Tree elements. You can get almost all dragons in the same way as this, if you have the required parent dragon types.
Another thing that differentiates Dragon Friends: Green Witch from other games is the fact that in this game you can not only collect and breed dragons, but also animals! You can get all kinds of animals, including sheeps, cows, dogs, cats, foxes and a lot more. You can also breed two of the same species of animals, which will create a new, sometimes even special version of that animal. So if you breed two sheep together, you might get a pink sheep in the end.
Also a fun feature of the game is the use of Magic. You can use Magic on any dragon or animal which is level 10. You don’t need anything special for doing so, only to wait until it’s finished. Using Magic on a creature will cause it to turn into something else in the end. It might be as simple as a color change, or it might turn into something entirely different. Your dog who you just used Magic on might turn into a dragon, or it might become a cocoa dog! The only limit to using Magic is that the creature must be level 10. You can feed any of your dragons and animals with apples an unlimited amount of times to level them up, but each feeding costs some gold. It costs more for each level and rare dragons require more gold to be fed than common ones. Food doesn’t need to be grown separately, it’s always available for gold.
There is also a whole collection book in Dragon Friends: Green Witch that stores all of your already achieved types of creatures, so you can easily keep track of your progress. There is also a prize you can redeem for each type of dragon and animal you collect for the first time.
Other than collecting dragons and animals, you also have the whole island to take care of. You have a lot of different buildings to construct as you level up. Most of the buildings provide you with gold over time and some of them also serve another purpose. For example a Magic Recipe building will allow you to create recipes. These will allow things like creating gold or gems and even increasing dragon breeding chances.
You will also have to place farms, where various crops can be grown. Most of these will gain you gold as time passes by, but if you don’t harvest them soon after they are done, they will go bad and award no gold. Some crops will even get you caterpillars, which are important magic ingredients. Trees and some of the available decorations will also provide you with gold over time. Basically most things on the island will get you gold, if you keep visiting the game often.
Gold is the most simple to get currency in Dragon Friends: Green Witch, as you can see. Then there are gems, which can be bought for real money, achieved or get as rewards for various quests and tasks. The gem prices range from $0.99 for 20 gems to $99.99 for 3350 gems. You can also spend gems to get gold, swapping at least 30 gems for 3000 gold up to 1000 gems for 100000 gold. The third and last currency of the game is hearts, which can be collected from various quests, tasks, friends and treasure chests.
There are also some other fun pastimes unlocked in the game as you level up, including spinning the Wheel of Fortune once per day for free. There is also the Dragon Platform, where you can use the Sky View to check out all your non-busy dragons, without any distractions. There are also minigames you can play with them in the Dragon Platform, like Flappy Dragon and Melody ChaCha. Then there’s also the Mystery Cave unlocked later on, where you’ll get a random mystery egg every 12 hours, which will take 12 hours to hatch, but might contain a random rare dragon.
Other than doing quests, managing your island, dragons, animals and participating in various pastimes, you will also have the option to take part in the community of Dragon Friends: Green Witch. You can invite your friends, find new ones and help eachother out on your islands or even join a guild, once you reached level 30. There is also a public message board, where you can chat with other players.
The game also includes a lot of achievements, each of them giving out gold, gem and heart rewards, just as the collection book does. The leaderboards is also a place for players to compete with eachother. People on these boards are ranked weekly, but there is a hall of fame for the best players ever.
Ads are not shown anywhere in the game, except for treasure chests appearing in the water near the island, which if you activate will give you rewards and pop in an ad that can immediately be closed. You can also get free gems for downloading sponsored apps.

The main thing to remember in Dragon Friends: Green Witch is that it’s an online only game. You will need a stable internet connection to play it correctly. Losing connection can cause all kinds of issues, like losing progress.
If you’ve got that covered, you might be interested in some cheats and tips for the game. Well, as it’s an online game, you will not find any real working cheats, but you can read plenty of hints and tricks!
The first tip you might want to remember is that quests are you friends. Always try to follow them and do what the Shy people ask in them, as they will give you rewards for each successful task. You can get gold, gems and even hearts from quests, all of which will enhance your gameplay greatly.
As for tips about breeding dragons, you can always check out the shop for the list of dragons and see what elements they have. If you want a dragon that has Fire and Tree as elements, you should get a Fire and Tree dragon first and try to breed them to get that egg, instead of spending gems in the shop to buy it.
Another tip you should not forget is you can only harvest crops for a short time after they are finished. If you don’t check on the game, your crops will go bad and won’t award any gold. The same doesn’t apply to buildings and creatures like dragons and animals, as they will always give you their gold.
Also be on the lookout for treasure chests floating randomly in the water near your island. They always contain some free rewards if you open them, at only the cost of looking at an ad for a second. You can immediately quit these ads and still get the reward.
You might also consider asking other players for help in the public chat, found in the Social menu. They can become your friends and help you out on your island, let you join their guild, or even gift you dragons later on. You can also add your interests or search by categories to find people who might be good friends to you!
My gameplay of Dragon Friends: Green Witch started out as it always does in dragon themed games: skeptical, but kept going much better than it usually does. This game had many things that I enjoyed.
After I started the game up and created an account in a minute, I was already playing without troubles. The tutorials were simple, yet effective, in quest form. I got to know the story and the basics pretty fast. The quests asked me to turn a dog into a Tree dragon by Magic, which I did. Using Magic was so interesting that I kept leveling all my future animals and dragons to level 10, as long as my gold lasted, so that I can Magic them. Unfortunately none of my sheep turned into dragons, but some of my dragons changed colors into rarer ones.
The game kept adding more and more quests, so I never felt like I had nothing to do. As I leveled up, the island even unlocked various new objectives and pastimes that I could try, while growing in size. Flappy Dragon was a minigame that I played and found to be fun. It’s obviously a spin on Flappy Bird, but you can choose any of your own dragons to play with, instead of a bird, with a much prettier background.
I also hatched the Mystery Egg, which was added to my island at level 1 and got a Mint Lake Dragon out of it, which is a pretty huge and good looking dragon.
I kept on playing for hours and hours, but I had to take some breaks, as building things, waiting for breeding dragons and hatching eggs takes a lot of time. Still, I never felt like it was unfair, as the cost of things like buildings and feeding dragons always seemed to be well balanced, even while I expected outrageous prices for everything. I was pleasantly surprised.
Overall I had a lot of fun with this game and can recommend it to anyone, regardless of age. I can safely say that this is one of the best dragon themed island management games out there right now.
Artwork: The artwork in Dragon Friends: Green Witch deserves a 9/10. This game is very colorful and pretty. I’m not sure what exactly is it, but something about the look of this game is very charming. The dragons and animals are all very well designed and the overall look is just crisp. Great job by the developers on this part!
Music & SFX: The music in this game gets a 7/10. It’s alright, although mostly generic and not much different from the usual fantasy styled music of these games. The SFX is good, especially how each dragon, animal, building and even plant has a different sound assigned to it.
Story & Originality: I give the story of this game an 8/10. The story is done so much better in Dragon Friends: Green Witch than in most similar games. As you level up you are always greeted by one of the Shys with some lore and story bits. I like how it’s constant and integrates with the leveling system.
General Gameplay: The general gameplay of this game gets an 8/10. The gameplay includes many new things that differ from the usual options in this genre, which is a welcome addition. I really liked the possibility to use Magic on my creatures and the feeling of suspense when waiting to see what they will turn into. Collecting all the possible dragons and animals also feels better in this game than most, probably because of the tracking the collection manager provides.
Addictiveness: The game is so addicting that it gets a 9/10. It’s surprising how fair the progression in this game is. There is a lot of waiting, but things usually don’t cost so outrageously much as people would expect at first. It’s probably the most well done business model in a game like this. I can see myself returning to Dragon Friends: Green Witch later on, as it’s truly a fun game, with a pretty active community.
Overall Score: 8/10.
