When I first heard about Jolly Jam, I was just expecting yet another Candy Crush clone wanting to get in on the action of match games. Suffice it to say, I was seriously pleasantly surprised when I started playing the actual game and found it to be absolutely amazing.
Despite the bad rep that matching games have garnered up for themselves this game differs from every other match game, it’s not just another game that is trying to force you into buying premium currency to get through the game, even after several days of playing the game, I haven’t experienced any terrible issues with the game. This is definitely one for my keep folder!
Jolly Jam is much more of a casual puzzle game in that it put obstacles in the way of completing the level mission. Instead of trying to infuriatingly match up a set of three of the same blocks, Jolly Jam, put an entirely new spin on match games, instead selecting two matching fruits from anywhere on the board, boxing in all of the same colored fruits and removing them.
When you start off the game, it’s pretty easy, you’ll have a regular square shaped grid filled with fruit, after several of these levels, you’ll start getting into the harder levels where new obstacles are thrown in to complicate things. You’ll have to get rid of fruit munching monsters, iced fruit blocks, crackers and even evil big bosses.
Sure a lot of what is in the game is pretty similar to what you would see in your average match three game, but the entire way of actually playing the game is totally different to anything I’ve ever played before, and believe me, I’ve played a lot of iOS games. This whole new way of playing matching games offers something entirely new to the genre; in fact, it probably won’t be all that long before we see clones of Jolly Jam.
Since we all know how Rovio loves to make their games absolutely beautiful, you would expect nothing less of them with this game, and of course, they do not disappoint. Everything from the staring screen to the animation of characters is absolutely perfect. The game is filled beautifully bright colors and a generally fun feel.
Jolly Jam is very addicting just like Candy Crush. In order to continue playing, you need lives. If you run out of lives, you’ll have to do tasks like connect with your friends or spend real money to get more. Diamonds are another important resource in Jolly Jam because they can be used to purchase power-ups.

Whilst the game might feel a little overly cutesy to some, if you’re able to play through that, this game really has a lot to offer both the genre and the players. In a time of too many Candy Crush cones, Rovio appears to have done the impossible; it has actually managed to create an entirely new take on the match three genre. Every new game joining this genre aspires to be the newest success, but few succeed because they forget one crucial thing, to be better that what is already the best, you need to create an entirely new spin on an already overdone concept, this is why I believe Jolly Jam is going to end up being incredibly popular on the app store.
The game itself is constantly switching things up, giving a different goal for each level you play through, this allows for you to just keep on playing the game without hitting the boredom wall of playing the same thing over and over again. The general idea of each level is that you must remove a certain number of fruit from the board. What differs from level to level is the obstacles that you will no doubt end up encountering. These differences keep the game fresh and exciting to play.
The one question that stands in everyone’s minds when considering downloading is this: is the game actually any good? I can honestly answer that ye, this game is actually quite good. The fact that the entire way of playing is totally difference is really a big thumbs up to me, it allows the game to stand out in the crowd. I know I sat and played this game for several hours without getting bored, the only reason I didn’t just complete the game there and then was the fact that my iPad ran out of power. The game is definitely easy for the first thirty or so levels, which might be off putting to some, but once you start getting into the really difficult levels, you’ll be wishing for those easy levels back.
Once you get up into the higher levels, every single bad thing you’ve come across in previous levels with come back to bite you in the ass in one single level, whilst it’s seriously frustratingly hard, it gives you that sense of challenge that you crave from these kinds of games. You’ll also find that just making the really big boxes isn’t doing it for you anymore and that you have to just make as many powered up fruits as you possibly can so you can complete the entire level in like five moves, getting you those three shiny stars that you aim for on every single level.
If you can get past the amount of incredibly easy content and into the challenging stuff, you’ll probably find yourself getting very addicted to this one, it’s outrageously fun and you’ll find yourself absolutely loving the little pineapple named Jam.
If you’ve gotten bored with the same old game in the match three genre, you’ll definitely want to try this game out, you’ll leave the game with a sense of enjoyment and you probably won’t feel like smashing yourself over the head with your device(well, not until you get to that one really annoying boss match).
Jolly Jam is currently running version 3.0.11 and requires your device to be running at least iOS version 6.0 or later. The game is available to play in multiple different languages, so there need be no barriers holding you back from checking out this awesome game. Jolly Jam can be downloaded for free from the app store with the option to purchase further in game premium currency. The game currently hold a four and a half star rating in the app store and appears to have a largely positive response to the game from reviewers.
There are in app purchase options for both the premium currency of the game and options for extra lives. There are five different available diamond packages to choose from if you would like to purchase diamonds. To buy a pack of twenty diamonds it will cost you $1.99, to buy a pack of fifty three diamonds it will cost you $4.99, if you would like to buy a pack of one hundred and ten diamonds it will cost you $9.99, if you would like to buy a pack of two hundred and thirty diamonds it will cost you $19.99 and if you would like to buy a pack of one thousand diamonds it will cost you $49.99. If you would also like to permanently increase your maximum allotted lives, you can buy plus one life for ninety nine cents and $1.99 for plus two. Diamonds can be used to purchase special power ups which can be used in addition to powered up fruit you have already created.
As far as I can tell, there aren’t many hacks that have been confirmed to work yet, although the game isn’t all that old, so it may have some after a few more weeks. Also, to those who are jailbroken, don’t expect your iapfree to work on this one, because it doesn’t work unfortunately.

So when you start playing the game, you’ll notice that it is a lot similar to popular match three games like Candy Crush, and you’ll think you’ve got it in the bag. Well you may want to think again with Jolly Jam, you’ll have something totally new instead.
First up, the best favor you can do yourself whilst playing the game is to make as many special fruit as you possibly can, these will be your livelihood when you get into sticky spots and they can be the difference between clearing those last few strawberries that you need and having to use up several more of your precious turns. Each special fruit requires a different amount of fruits to be captured in order to create it. If you destroy five fruits, you’ll make a jelly shot, which will destroy a row of other fruits when activated in another fruit capture box of the same color/type. If you destroy six of the same fruit, you’ll make a jelly swirl which will, when activated, turn itself into a sort of black hold and suck in any surrounding fruits. If you destroy seven or more of the same fruits, you’ll make the best special block – the jelly storm, which will, when activated, destroy all fruits the same color as it on the board at the time. If you have the chance and you’re low on moves, you will definitely want to use these fruits to your advantage.
When playing the game, it is highly important that you pay attention to the set level objective sand finish them as quickly as you can. Certain levels will have ice blocks containing fruits, to remove the ice, you must include the block in a match of fruits the same color, but it takes several hits to fully destroy the ice, so make your moves wisely as it will occasionally be a requirement to destroy ice blocks. Another level feature you’ll encounter is the music note levels, whereby the aim is to remove blocks below the musical notes so that they are able to reach the very bottom of the board and escape, if you can get the hang of using special fruit blocks, these are a great way to remove a lot of blocks below in very few moves.
Sometimes, you’ll notice that there are weird little fruity monsters on you board gobbling up precious fruit, every time you take a turn, the monsters will eat a fruit either above, below, to the left or to the right of it, this can become incredibly frustrating when you’re trying to get rid of specific blocks, so really, while it isn’t necessary in some levels, you need to get rid of them as quickly as you can. To get rid of these fruit monsters, you’ll notice that they have colors that are the same as the fruit on your board; including them in a box of same colored fruit will make them very nervous then disappear from your board. Some of the harder levels include a boss fight whereby you have to capture as many fruit as you can in order to attacks him, pay attention to these levels though as some boss fight levels will have you only destroy specific fruits, so destroying non-specified fruits will do nothing to hurt the boss, although sometimes, your board will get so full of the fruits that you don’t need that using up one or two of your moves to get rid of them is necessary.
Keep it as a rule of thumb to do a large a box as you can when capturing the fruits, if you can make it to where you have the specific fruits right where you want them, that would be awesome. Remember, the bigger the match, the sooner you’ll hit your goals!
If you begrudgingly manage to let one of these annoyingly little monsters into one of the corners you might feel as though all hope is lost and that you’ll never get rid of it since they can’t be used as a corner to match, have no fear, for I am here to tell you that yes, there is a way to get rid of it! Using the special fruit blocks to your advantage, you can totally blast those little beasts off of your board, the easiest thing to do is to use a jelly storm of the same color as the monster will immediately go down, or if you’re wanting to get rid of several at a time, try a jelly shot as these will wipe out the entire row regardless of what kinds of fruit is going to be on it.
If you see the pop up requesting you to connect your Facebook up to your game, you’ll definitely want to do it as not only will it mean you can play the game with your save data across multiple platforms, you’ll also be rewarded with a free forty five gems just for connecting, which could be seriously useful in a sticky situation. Connecting your Facebook account to your game will also allow you to request extra lives from our Facebook friends (yes, I know, this is the bane of everyone’s existence, but it must be done!), so you don’t need to wait for your heart bar to refill up.
Artwork: I give Jolly Jam a 10/10 for its artwork. I don’t say this about many games, but the art is this game is absolutely amazing; it’s colorful and beautifully done and overall visually pleasing to my eyes. Some might think that the art style in this game is a little childish, but personally, I love it. I also love the way that the characters have been animated, it really gives them personality, for example, I’ve deduced that Jam the pineapple a pyromaniac from the way he excitedly dances and throws stars at your fruits making them blow up in celebration of you getting all of your objectives. It really adds to the feeling of fun you get from playing this game, if it were all dreary and grey with badly designed characters, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as fun as it is now.
Music and SFX: I give the game a 9/10 for its music and sound effects. Now I just have to say that I really loved the music in Jolly Jam, it is upbeat and really helps you get into the flow of the whole game, it isn’t the same piece of music over and over, which I really like, especially the piece of music that starts when you’ve hit all your objectives and Pineapple Jam starts blowing stuff up, it’s cheerful and very celebratory and makes your victory that much more satisfying.
Story and Originality: I give the game an 8/10 for its story and originality. Okay, so I know we’ve seen the same kind of content before in various match three games, but this one definitely has so much more originality than every Candy Crush clone out there. The entire way of playing a match game has been totally changed up and that kind of change is well needed and it was time that someone finally brought something new to the table. I firmly believe that if you’re going to make a clone like game of an already successful game, you need to add something new to the genre so there is at least a feeling of progression rather than going round in circles playing the same game over and over as that could totally make a genre die out. The fact that Rovio didn’t just do what everyone else does and instead made its own new system makes me really appreciate the new feature that they’re bringing to the genre and I have no doubt that there will be clones of it soon enough. I really like the fact that the game has a sense of story to it as it really allows you to feel as though you’re working towards something rather than just playing for the sake of playing.
General Gameplay: I give the game a 9/10 for its general gameplay. For a pretty new game, I am so glad to say that I didn’t come across any bugs at all whilst playing, the fact that I was just able to play through the game without issues like random freezing or crashing made me really enjoy playing it. It ran really smoothly and I was just able to play for hours. The first thirty levels are a little easy to get through with makes the game lack in challenge a little, but once you get further into the game, you get to really hard boss fights where it seems that you’re only capable of getting a single star no matter how many times you try to rectify it. The gameplay was really easy to pick up despite it being an entirely new, never done before system, something which only made me enjoy playing it that much more.
Addictiveness: I give the game a 10/10 for its addictiveness. HI, my name is Stacey and I’m an addict – to Jolly Jam that is! Seriously, I think I probably would have carried on playing this game until I had no more levels to play through if my iPad hadn’t died around level 53. It honestly doesn’t surprise me that this game has so many reviews, or maybe it does surprise me, because they’d have to leave the game to write the review! Regardless, this is one of those games you should definitely try if you love Candy Crush type games of if you’re tired of all those clones out there. Try it, you will not regret it!

You might have heard of Rovio before, as they are the group that is behind the very popular Angry Birds franchise. This game is very similar to Candy Crush in that you are matching candies, although the concept is a little different.
How to Play Jolly Jam
The premise behind Jolly Jam is that you will need to use your fingers to drag the various fruits around so that you are creating corners of like colors. Once you get the corners together of like colors, you can then get them off of the board. Only the fruits that are the same within the group of boxes will vanish, leaving behind the other fruits which then you will need to find and drag alike boxes towards it to match. So while it is similar to Candy Crush, it is very different in that you are not matching 3 of anything or moving the candies around to create three in a row.
What’s Fun About Jolly Jam
One of the best things about Jolly Jam is that musically, it’s so much different than other happy match games out there. Some of the music is typical but there is also another side to Jolly Jam which is a heavier rock style of music, so you are getting better variation in music selections than with other games. It’s also not the same song or repetitive instrumental line over and over, so you will enjoy playing this game for hours without having to mute the music.
There are a ton of levels in Jolly Jam and the setup is similar to Candy Crush as far as moving up levels and the main level board is concerned. The difference in Jolly Jam is that you’re not just matching items, but rather grouping corners together then exploding them. You will also encounter things on the board that make it hard to get to the corners and some levels you might be stuck on for a while, until you figure out how to drag the boxes next to each other. It’s hard to say just how well Jolly Jam will do, but it seems like if you are a fan of Candy Crush or that type of puzzle game, you will really enjoy Jolly Jam.
