Zombie games are the “best” recipe for game developing company to get profits but it is pretty hard to implement a successful one on mobile devices. Fortunately for them, Noodlecake Studios combined the popular zombie theme with a racing theme and the game resulted is above average. Zombie Road Trip Trials may look dorky at first but it is a solid game.

What I like the most about this game is the fact that it receives continuous updates. The latest one will have a multiplayer implementation and I think that has the potential to skyrocket the game’s downloads. I also like the fact that you need to do a mission so you can receive your daily reward – it challenges you to do more than just click on a button daily. Moreover, I like the fact that the game doesn’t require a lot of grinding to get coins – you can bypass this by paying real money but you can collect them patiently. Another think I really enjoy about Zombies Road Trip Trials is the amount of cars and weapons you can choose from. There can be more and I’m sure they will but at the moment it can please even the grumpiest player out there.

There are also a few thing I don’t like about Zombie Road Trip Trials. First of all, I don’t like that some of the objectives are pretty hard to get if you want 12/12 stars in each race especially when it comes to a great number of stunts in a short period of time. Secondly, I despise the fact that I can’t control my weapon’s aim at least for a little. I know that this could give an unfair advantage in killing zombies but they can add a time penalty or ammo limitation for balance. Finally, I think that what the game currently lacks is a factor of randomness – for example (I taught of Mario Kart) a box that can contain various power-ups or some bad stuff, should be introduced to the game to make it even more interesting.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Zombie Road Trip Trails. The game is fun, modern and it’s with zombies. And everybody loves zombies. Or minions. But that is not the case here. Zombie Minions Road Trip Trials incoming.

Ratings

Artwork: Zombies Road Trip Trials gets 8 out of 10 for its artwork. The theme is cartoonish and everything is colorful but that’s not a bad thing. The environment is fun and somehow interacts with the player (random green jelly in the sky for example). The cars are nicely designed and the zombies are hilarious (especially the flying one). The level designs are well-taught and as always I am impressed by the guys who think this levels – they must have a great imagination. The animations are “following the script” and they are also cartooned so you will not find any complicated modern visual effects in Zombie Road Trip Trials but fortunately the game doesn’t really need them.

Music & SFX: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 at this section. The music matches the theme and even though it isn’t as much as various I would have desired, it is still above average. It has a good optimistic tempo and I am sure it’s helpful for the player. The sound effects are also pretty solid and they aren’t too repetitive. I like in particular the fact that every car has its own sound effects and this rule applies to guns too. The zombie killing sounds the same. In my opinion, the best approach the developers could have taken was to choose some louder rock-ish music. I believe it would’ve suited Zombie Road Trip Trials more.

Story/Originality: Zombie Road Trip Trials gets 8 out of 10 at this segment. There isn’t a really story and this is probably for the best. When you are busy killing zombies with your enormous modified car you don’t have time for stories. Probably some zombie references to other games/TV series/movies would have given the game a nice touch. As I mentioned before, this game has its own unique weirdness so it is impossible to say it’s not original. Probably, if you search thoroughly you will find other games that bear some resemblance to Zombie Road Trip Trials but that it will most likely be pure coincidence.

General Gameplay: I give the game a rating of 8 out of 10 for its gameplay. Zombie Road Trip Trials is one of the games that are easy to play but hard to master. After you complete the fairly basic tutorial at first you will soon realize you need to learn by yourself different tricks. The game’s difficulty is not that high but Zombie Road Trip Trials is hard enough to be challenging and I think that this is great. The upgrades you can do aren’t overwhelming and the game does all the job so no need to worry if you are not used with the racing type. The controls are simple and can be customized. For the time I’ve played I haven’t encountered any bugs, freezes or crashes so from this point of view the game is great.

Addictiveness: Zombie Road Trip Trials gets 9 out of 10 for its addictiveness. This kind of games are hard to be addictive because of 2 reasons: the gameplay is lousy and the game itself is boring or the game is too short. Fortunately, Zombie Road Trip Trials is neither of them. There are hundreds of levels to be played each coming with a set of 12 missions (so if you do 3 missions per run – you will not – you need to play each level for at least 4 times) so no need to worry about the game being short. Also, as I mentioned before, the gameplay is great and you will not be frustrated by it. Moreover, in Zombie Road Trip Trials there are a lot of customization options available (different cars, different weapons and different paint jobs) and of course a daily reward system.

Overall, Zombie Road Trip trials gets a rating of 8.2 out of 10. The games excels in many departments and with the upcoming updates it can easily become a number 1.
