Avakin Life is a 3D life simulation game by Lockwood Publishing. The developer is popularizing the Avakin brand with such other games as Avakin – 3D Avatar Creator, Avakin Starstyle and Avakin Poker – 3D Social Club.
Avakin Life is rated 3.8/5 stars on the Google Play Store, while having a 4.5/5 stars rating on the Apple App Store. So why the big difference between the ratings on the two stores? We will take a look at the Android version in the following review, and see for ourselves whether it deserves this rating or not. Read on to find out more!
Avakin Life is a living 3D simulation environment for players interested in social life, interaction with people and just generally having fun. The game requires its registering players to be at least 17 years old, as the game might contain profanity and adult themes.
There are a good number of things you can spend your time with in the world of Avakin, so let’s talk about player characters first. When you start out, you will have to create a character for yourself, which will represent you in the game world. Later on you can go back to customize this character any number of times, or create a new one.
Customizing your character can be done either by changing their facial features, or by outfitting them with new clothes bought in the store. There are so many categories of clothing available that you can truly create a fully unique character. You can get hats, hair, undercut, glasses, makeup, facepaint, torso, hands, legs, underwear and socks. All categories have over 15 choices at least, if not more, depending on gender. Most clothing options cost avacoins, the main currency of the game, but some can be bought only for the secondary currency, gems.
The store in Avakin Life also has many other things for sale, such as apartments, furniture, petkins and animations. Apartments can be very luxurious, like a house at the top of a mountain, a tropical island or even your very own yacht. All players start out with a simple aparment though, set in the suburbans of a city, so you are not forced to spend any of your avacoins on a new apartment location.
Your apartment can be personalized with furniture either bought from the shop, or with the basic ones that each homeowner gets for free. The game even has a fully functional construction mode, where you can select, rotate and place any furniture in your apartment to your liking. If you feel like your home looks pretty enough, you can set it to public, so any player can visit, or just invite your friends and throw a housewarming party!
You don’t have to be alone in your apartment at any time, as you can buy all kinds of petkins from the store as well. Petkins can vary anywhere from different breeds of dogs or cats to even miniature dinosaurs. Placing these pets in your home will make sure it’s much more lively!
The biggest feature of Avakin Life are the Social Spots though. Social Spots are popular places where players can meet up with eachother in public. Currently in the game are 12 different spots like these, including the Easter Islands, Starstyle Bar, Twilight Lounge, Golden Sands Bay and Ajagara’s Peak. All Social Spots differ from eachother and attract different kinds of people. Some of these places might also have free gifts every day. Choose to your liking and visit any of them to find new friends!
When you are in any area of the game, be it the Social Spots, apartments of your own or your friends’, you will be able to look around and interact with various items and other players. Moving is simply done by tapping on the ground anywhere, while interacting is done by tapping on seats, swimming pools or people’s names. You can also use the global or private chat at any time to communicate with others. Of course you can not only chat with people, but also use emotes such as waving, laughing or dancing.
Once you get to know someone well, you might add them to your friends list, where you can chat with them even if you two are on different maps. Friends might also invite you to their own apartments, or suggest you to join them in any of the Social Spots to spend time together.
Avakin Life also has a leveling feature, in which you gain experience by interacting with players, adding them to your friends list, visiting places and generally just playing the game. Leveling up grants you some free avacoins, but other than that, there are not many advantages of a higher level. Other players might see your high level and realize you have been playing for long, but that’s it.
Of course the game has microtransactions as well, in the form of purchasable avacoins. If you only need a small amount, you can get 690 avacoins for $0.99, or buy the maximum of 27.990 coins for $39.99, which is more than enough to outfit your character and purchase multiple apartments. For getting the more costy packs, you also get some extra gems as a ‘thank you’ reward. Once you bought one of the coin packs, the option to gift items to your friends will also unlock!

These are not fast processes at all, therefore always reconsider your purchases of ingame items, as if you run out of coins or gems, you will not be able to buy anything new for a while. Try to spend less at a time, so you will have some remaining for when a new item is added.
Still, keep in mind that spending your currencies on ingame items doesn’t make the game better. You can access almost all features without ever buying anything. You can visit all locations, make friends and party with them all you wish, without ever buying a new dress, a carpet or a pet. The main point of the game is to make friends and have fun with them, you don’t need to spend anything to do that!
At last, remember that some of the social spots have huge floating gifts to gather every 24 hours. These can include new furniture or clothes, so always check on these places for some free goodies!
Avakin Life fits a role of such a game on mobile phones which is not as explored yet as it could be. 3D life simulators are definitely an interesting genre, so I was glad to dive into it.
My first expression of the game was very positive, after I finally got out of the pretty expansive character creation. The first thing I did was to check on my own apartment, which looked so good that I could actually imagine myself living there in real life. Yet at the same time, this was only the basic apartment, without much furniture. I tried out the construction mode and placed some tables, couches and even bought a pet siamese cat to make it feel more like home.
I was pretty impressed with the apartment and construction system, so I moved onto the Social Spots. I checked out 10 of the 12 available locations, and most of them definitely looked great. The overall style of the game is pretty enough, but the environments were detailed so much better than I would have expected. The free gifts on some of these locations were also a nice touch, definitely a great help to new players.
As for the community of the game, I mostly interacted with players on the Social Spots. My general experience shows that most players in Avakin Life seem to be either taking it very seriously and playing in character, or just joking around childishly and spouting sexuality related things. I really tried hard to have real conversations with some of these people, but most either dismissed me for trying to distract them in their roleplaying, or insulted me, then continued with their adult themed, yet very immature chat.
The game has censoring for some words, but most players seemed to be bypassing this in various ways. Avakin Life definitely seems not to be made for children, but some players obviously were under the age limit, guessing by their style.
In the end, Avakin Life is a good looking game, with great environments and great gameplay aspects, but the playerbase is really questionable. There are definitely some interesting people to find among the childish ones, but it’s not the easiest task. I would still recommend trying the game, if you wish for an online life simulation game, as it does that very well.
Ratings
Artwork: The artwork of Avakin Life gets an 8/10 from me. Some textures can be a little low resolution, but most of the environments and characters definitely look pretty in this game. I personally really liked the overall design, it’s easily comparable to some computer games, which is impressive.
Music & SFX: The music and SFX of this title deserves a 9/10. All Social Spots have different music, depending on their design and atmosphere. Clubs have more funky music, while tropical islands and mountaintops have chilly, calm songs playing. The apartments are pretty quiet on the other hand, except for noises coming from outside, such as traffic or birds chirping, which was realistic. Most environments really made me feel like I was there, thanks to the SFX.
Story & Originality: Avakin Life’s story and originality gets an 8/10. There is not much of a story behind the game, other than it giving players a chance to live a secondary life. While this idea is not original, the presentation is exceptional and unique.
General Gameplay: I give the general gameplay an 8/10 as well. The game features easy controls, awesome looking environments and a lot of choices regarding character customization, apartments and places to hang out at. Probably the only negative aspect is the main playerbase, but it’s not the game’s fault, really. I can see great potential in Avakin Life, even in its current form, and especially with future updates.
Addictiveness: For addictiveness the game gets a 9/10. Making new friends and hanging out with them can be very addicting, especially since you can do this in dreamy locations. Do you feel like partying? Go to the Twilight Lounge and dance! Or maybe sightseeing is what you wish for? Go and take a look around the Easter Islands! The game has a lot of content and a huge population of players, so you will never get bored of it!
Overall Score: 8/10.
