Our world is full of amazing technologies, but what happens to all the old and broken appliances? They are either thrown in the trash or just forgotten forever. For this reason, Doraemon, the futuristic robot cat is here to fix the townspeople’s broken items, in exchange for dorayaki, his favorite snack! Help this robot cat and his friends fix various items in Doraemon Repair Shop, and gather as much dorayaki as you can!
Doraemon Repair Shop is a time management game by Animoca, featuring the original manga and anime series’ main character, Doraemon. The developer is well known for their popular titles such as the Star Girl, Pretty Pet or Astro Boy series, Doraemon Gagdet Rush or even Stellar Escape.
Doraemon Repair Shop can call its own a 4.1/5 stars rating on the Google Play Store, while enjoying a 4.5/5 stars rating on the Apple App Store. The game is popular both among fans of Doraemon and fans of time management games, although there is a bigger following behind it on Android than iOS. Today we will see whether the game lives up to the hype or not!
Doraemon Repair Shop presents a simple, funny story to the player when first launching it. Doraemon wants to gather as much dorayaki as possible, since its his favorite snack. His friend Noby tells him about all the wasted machines, furniture and other items that end up in the trash. This causes Doraemon to have a bright idea: fix these old appliances using his futuristic gadgets! Maybe the townspeople will pay him in dorayaki for his services!
The game uses the popular map level selection system, showing the town itself and highlighting 9 different places of interest: Nobita’s Home, Playground, Parking Lot, Park, Baseball Field, Shopping Hall, Festival, School and the Forest. Starting from Nobita’s home, you will have to help Doraemon’s friends fix all the broken items brought in to his hastily built repair shops.
The gameplay area itself looks simple, but the gameplay isn’t even close to that. You have Doraemon’s various futuristic gadgets placed on the ground, ordered by color. The starting gadgets are the Dismantling Screwdriver, Time Cloth and the Boost Potion. As you progress in the town, you will set up the shop in places where new gadgets will be needed, such as the Super Battery, X-Ray Camera and the Reconstruction Flash Light.
As each day starts, customers will be marching into Doraemon Repair Shop. All customers have a small robot cat carrying their broken things. Each of these customers will ask you to complete different repairs on their items, which will be indicated by color, matching one of your gadgets. Your task is to grab these cats and put them on the correct gadgets, then order Noby and Soby, your first two workers to fix the item.
After fixing an item it can either be done and the customer will move to the Cashier, or the item might need more repairs, using a different gadget. Your goal on each level is to try and repair all customers’ items. Not taking care of an item or not manning the cashier in time will anger customers and cause them to leave the shop, lowering your earned dorayaki.
Of course, since you only start with two workers, Noby and Soby, taking care of over 6 or more customers at the same time, while even more are approaching is not an easy task, and it requires fast reaction times. To make your job easier in Doraemon Repair Shop, you can also upgrade each of your gadgets, the waiting benches and the cashier. Upgrading gadgets will cause them to fix items faster, while upgrading the cashier will process customers faster. Bench upgrades will simply make customers waiting at them be more patient.
Upgrading can be slow, depending on how much of the two currencies, dorayaki and bells you have. For this reason you also have an option to hire more workers, like Dorami, Doraemon himself, Gian, Shizuka, Goody and Sneech. All of these workers cost bells to invite to your shop, and you can also upgrade them to work faster.
Doraemon Repair Shop has even more ways to help you succeed at the repair shop business, with various boosts: The Duplication Mirror, which causes the shop to earn extra dorayaki for 20 seconds. Telephone Booth, a boost that makes you able to disregard colors when servicing items and so any item can be placed at any station. Boost Clock Key, which will cause the staff to work and move twice as fast for 20 seconds. Relief Stick, a useful boost that calms down customers, so they won’t get mad for 20 seconds. The last one is the Road Block, which will block the way into the shop for 20 seconds, so you can take care of customers already in the shop, without worrying about newcomers.
Most of these boosts can also be earned from the slot machine, which you can play a maximum of 3 times after each completed day. You first have to pick up buns dropped during gameplay, as each bun will allow one spin. The slot machine can also get you extra happiness level, which will make the customers be more patient overall.
There are also quests added to the game each day, all of which will award dorayaki, happiness and even bells. These quests can be anything like “use the Super Battery gadget 50 times” or “serve 100 customers”.
If you are looking for even more challenge than the game presents at first, you can set the time to go by much faster, up to 5 times as fast. This will make the gameplay a lot trickier and require even more attention. Of course, if you find the basic (2) setting too hard, you can set the time to 1, which will slow it down.
The nature of Doraemon Repair Shop makes players wish for more dorayaki and bells all the time, either for upgrades or to hire new staff. For this reason, there is an option to purchase either with real money. You can buy a minimum of 200 bells or 5000 dorayaki for $1.99, or go all out and buy 6000 bells or 150,000 dorayaki for $49.99. There are also options to watch ads or download sponsored apps to gain bells, but not dorayaki.

Doraemon Repair Shop can be very tricky to play, especially after unlocking new gadgets and using a faster game speed option. Cheats could no doubt be helpful here, just as general tips. Read on and I will tell you about some of these cheats, tips and tricks, making your life easier while playing this challenging game.
Probably the first thing you should keep in mind is that game speed can be changed anytime during a level. Is the basic setting of 2 too fast? Set it back to 1, so the game will leave you with more time to think about your strategy and the order you want the cats to be taken care of. Turning the speed up to 5 is also a great tip for someone who wants the most out of the game, but this is only meant for very experienced players!
Another trick to help you is pausing the game in the middle of a level. If you feel overwhelmed, look at the current state of the repair shop and pause the game. This way the time won’t move and you will have some chance to reassess what you want to do.
As a for a small, but very useful tip, one of the main things that can make the experience easier for you is to fix items of customers who got there first. If you take too long, they will get mad that you serve others who have come after them. Always try to fix items in the correct order, minimizing the chance that a customer will stomp out of the store angrily!
Of course, if you want some extra dorayaki or bells, you should do quests in the game each day. All of them can be completed without much trouble, really. As for other ways to gather the currencies, you are limited to purchasing them with real money, watching ads, downloading sponsored apps or getting them with cheats. Decide for yourself which is the way you want to go, but either can be useful.
During my playthrough, Doraemon Repair Shop seemed to be very similar to typical match-3 games in its setting, menu and map systems. The gameplay mechanics themselves were nowhere close to any other game though, which made this to be a very fresh experience.
The gameplay mechanic of placing different colored cats on the same colored gadgets is very simple at first and doesn’t even seem too interesting, but placing them there is not enough at all. I also had to order my two staff members manually to fix items for each of the customers’ cats. Doing this for every single item, while some require more than one fix can be tricky. It’s not because it’s hard to do, but because time is short as more customers are constantly marching into the repair shop.
At first I didn’t do well enough, and even lost some customers as they got tired of waiting, but as soon as I really got into the gameplay, I became much more successful. I realized that no matter what order I place the cats in, I should follow that same pattern when fixing their items and manning the cashier.
As for the upgrade system, most of the upgrades cost 500 or 1000 dorayaki, which is earned in 1 or 2 levels, depending on how well you do. The problem is that there are a lot of gadgets and upgrading all can take a long time. Hiring new staff is way harder though, as they cost a lot of bells most of the time, just as upgrading them. I just skipped this feature overall, as I couldn’t allow myself to spend on it. The game is definitely more challenging without more staff, but boosts can help a great deal, as well as strategic planning.
Overall, Doraemon Repair Shop is definitely a game of trial and error in the first few levels, but once you get the hang of it, you will be addicted, no doubt about that. If you are a Doraemon fan, you will be a little disappointed though, as he will only appear in the shop when hired with bells. The general artstyle is reminiscent of the manga and anime though, and it will probably fill you with nostalgia!
Ratings:
Artwork: I give the artwork of Doraemon Repair Shop an 8/10. The art of the game is the same style as the manga and anime’s style, as it is intentional. Fans of Doraemon will obviously find themselves at home here, but newcomers might find the style weird at first. The game looks good though and everything is easy to find, even through the chaos of customers.
Music & SFX: The music and SFX of the game also deserves an 8/10. This game is full of very charming and happy songs, which keeps the general atmosphere close to the anime. Even if you are not playing the game, the songs are just fun to listen to. As for the SFX, the gadget and the cashier working sounds are the most the game presents, but it doesn’t even need more.
Story & Originality: As for the story and originality of Doraemon Repair Shop, it gets an 9/10. A simple, yet well rounded out story marks this game: Doraemon wants his favorite snack and in exchange helps out a whole town of people. This story is well executed, and mixing it with the unique gameplay mechanics, this game is no doubt as original as it gets.
General Gameplay: The general gameplay on the other hand gets a 8/10 from me. This is a challenging game, without question. Don’t let its friendly and colorful style confuse you, you will suffer in this game, but in a good way. You should always look for ways to improve your gameplay of stacking colorful cats and managing the limited time you have for each customer, otherwise you might lose some. Probably the only negative thing I can mention about the gameplay is the costy option to hire new staff, it could really cost less.
Addictiveness: I give the addictiveness of this title a 9/10. Countless levels, expanding mechanics, new gadgets introduced, various boosts and new staff to be hired are all the things that will make you wish to play this game as much as possible. A truly unique experience on the mobile gaming market, this game is a great pickup, if you want something new among the usual time management games.
Overall Score: 8/10.
