Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom is an Arcade game developed by the well-known company Sega which published dozens of other successful games such as Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis Challenge or Football Manager 15. The game is the sequel of Sonic Dash and it has already been downloaded for almost 1 million times. It has a rating of 4.3 out of 5 on Google Play and a rating of 4 and a half stars from a maximum of 5 on Apple’s App Store. In order to run at optimal parameters, Sonic Dash 2 requires an Android version of at least 4.0.3 or for Apple devices iOS 7.0 or later.
The game is a classical endless running with a fresh look and filled with a lot of interesting objectives or missions to complete. You take the role of Sonic the Hedgehog or one of his trustworthy companions and you participate in different events and runs.
Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom doesn’t require a mandatory sign-up but, at least for Android users, it requires Google Play Service to be installed and updated. By doing so, you ensure that there is no progression lost if you change your device or if you want to uninstall the game and reinstall it a later time. Personally, I still believe that it will be more intuitive if the game would require a simple signing-in so you can use the same account on different devices.
You will encounter some microtransactions in the game so if you are a fan of them, you came to the right place. Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom “runs” on tickets, gold rings and red star rings from which the last one is the premium currency. You can purchase them with real money having a price that varies depending on the amount you wish to buy. The least you can spend is $5.79 for a bucket which contains 28 Red Star Rings while the most you can spend at once is $119.99 in exchange of 750 Red Star Rings. There are several other choices (not only red stars) which can be found in the store such as boosts or even gold rings.
Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom uses a currency called red rings. These are very expensive. You can get only 28 red rings for $5.79. You’ll need a lot more to win at Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom. Download our free Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom hack tool to easily and freely get rings & red star rings.

If you know how to read and I suppose you can because you are here, then you most likely heard of Sonic the Hedgehog. If you however didn’t, you must know that he is the protagonist of a lot of animated series, games of all genres on all platforms, comics and even some sort of motion pictures. Naturally, reviewing such a big title is always enjoyable.
The best thing I encountered in Sonic Dash 2 is probably the way the developers handled the permanent problem of an endless running game – the boredom which ultimately happens. It is true that this is not the first title where you have small different objectives to complete while doing your runs and aiming for a better score than the previous but in Sonic Dash 2 you will get much more complex stuff to do. Another great feature is the fact that you can use up to 3 characters during the same run and that you can change between them if you enter caves. Your rings will be stored in the bank and you can shift between characters in the same run as you please.
I also like the fact that even though there are some microtransactions involved, if you decide not to invest money, you will not feel that you are at disadvantage. It is true that you can unlock a lot faster all the characters and that you can reach higher scores if you invest money but in the end the game it is safe to say that Sonic Dash 2 is not a pay to win game. The ads which are supposed to invade your screen while playing are really discrete and they don’t disrupt the gameplay.
In the following lines I will talk about what I don’t like about Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom or what I would change if I would have the possibility. First of all, I am annoyed by the game’s menu. It is vague and if you aren’t paying attention you most likely end up doing unwanted stuff (like consuming 1 ticket and start a run instead of changing your team). In addition to this, the Store section of the game is hidden (a small plus symbol) and I believe that it should have its own proper page. Secondly, there are still some glitches that are most likely going to be fixed in the following patches.
However, this is not an excuse because Sonic Dash 2 is a released game and people may lose real money (if they purchased stuff) because Sonic didn’t feel like jumping over that fence at that specific moment. Last but not least, I believe that the game needs in the near future a real multiplayer implementation. There are a lot of Sonic the Hedgehog fans who would kill to compete with their friends in a Sonic mobile device game. I believe that having a Google Play Services requirement in order to play the game is a start.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom. It is unusual for a Sega game to be free on the market and you should grab this one even though you are not necessarily a fan of the character or the series. You will not only get an awesome running title but you will also see the quality of the company’s games and maybe decide on buying some of them.
Ratings
Artwork: Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom gets a rating of 8 out of 10 for its artwork. By comparing the game with its prequel, you can definitely see a graphic engine upgrade. Everything is 3D and feels modern. There are still some issues now and then but nothing too annoying (visually speaking). The theme is cartoonish like it was supposed to be, the design of the characters is good and they look interesting and the environment is decent enough. The animations effects are not the best but not the worst either – I was expecting some more details when the characters are performing their special powers. Overall, there is still room for improvement.
Music & SFX: I give Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom a rating of 7 out of 10 at this section. Most likely the weakest link of the game, the music and the sound effects aren’t standing out in any way and they are at best average. It is true that the soundtrack matches the theme and together they create a nice atmosphere but I expected much more. Probably is because I was used with flawless soundtrack in Sonic games, I feel like there is something missing in this one. Also, the sound effects are pretty dull if you ask me.
Story/Originality: The game receives a rating of 8 out of 10 at this section. Because it is arcade, Sonic Dash 2 doesn’t have a story whatsoever. That is not necessarily a bad thing because you can focus on the gameplay. In terms of originality there isn’t much to say because the game is fully licensed and published by Sega so it’s genuine. It is not the first not the last endless running game on the market but one thing is for sure – it feels authentic. There are a lot of original elements and most of the objectives and the game mechanics are encountered in other Sonic titles only.
General Gameplay: Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom gets a rating of 9 out of 10 for its gameplay. The game has a thorough tutorial from which you will learn anything you are required to do. This genre isn’t focused on complicated mechanics and you will get used with Sonic Dash 2 in no-time. The game’s difficulty gradually increases like in any endless running title so you will have enough time to accommodate. The objectives and events are also not that hard to do. Besides the small glitches that will probably be fixed in the near future, I haven’t encountered any major bugs, freezes or crashes while playing the game.
Addictiveness: I give Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom a rating of 9 out of 10 for its addictiveness. You have everything you need to have in a running game in order not to get bored. Different characters that simultaneously participate in a run, a lot of different events, objectives. A sort of character progression – both for you and for your characters. Daily rewards and a ticket system which is not the best but it does its job properly. The game can and will be really addictive for everyone. The only reason the game doesn’t get a maximum rating is because I still wish for that multiplayer implementation to be added.
Overall, Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom gets a rating of 8.2 out of 10. It is already part of the popular trends and it would be no surprise if it will reach the top and stay there. The game is solid, provides a great experience and it is fun. You don’t need anything else, do you?
