Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act I: The Mechanic




The first act will start off with a cutscene of Barry Wheeler sleeping in a motel room.



After the cutscene ends, you can see Alan standing in a place surrounded by dark.



Grab the flashlight found on the ground.



Random objects possessed by the dark presence will start floating, blocking your way.



Point your flashlight at them by pressing right mouse button. Boosting your flash light beam will destroy them.



After dealing with the possessed objects, pick up the 9mm pistol on the ground.



You will encounter a Taken on your way out of the canyon.



Use your flashlight bean to burn the darkness that protects the Taken from taking damage. After getting rid of the darkness, start shooting him with the 9mm pistol you've just picked up.



Leave the canyon.



After leaving the canyon, you will encounter a couple of Taken near an oil derrick.



After dealing with them, make your way to the motel.



Enter the garage located inside the motel's yard and talk to Emma Sloan, who's a mechanic.



Alan will ask Emma for the type-written page that she had found. She will tell Alan about the "creepy guys" she keeps seeing near the motel, Alan tells her that he'll deal with them.



Afterwards, she is going to hand the page to Alan. You will have to find three items needed to rewrite reality.



The first item is a battery, found on a truck near the gas station.



The second item is a valve, found on the fields near the gas station and motel.



The third; and the last item is a CD found inside a house with a carbine rifle sitting next to the table.



After finding all the three items, head back to the garage and ask Emma to recharge the battery.



Head to the oil derrick after getting your battery recharged.



You will encounter a few enemies near the oil derrick, take them out.



After dealing with the enemies at the oil derrick, you will have to do exactly what is on the manuscript for rewriting reality in order to stop darkness from pouring out of the derrick, which is to have the CD playing, turn the valve and turn the blinker lights on.



After doing what the manuscript said, a rock will smash into a satellite causing it to land on the tower and destroying it.



Escape the destruction area that went up in flames.



Return back to Emma.



Once you've returned to Emma, the garage will be attacked by Taken. You will have to deal with them once again.



After dealing with Taken, Alan will ask Emma about the man who looks like him (Mr. Scratch). She will tell you about the party he had in one of the motel's rooms and will give you the keys to the diner.



Head to the diner and explore it.



Pick up the set of keys found inside and head back to the motel.



You will have to find the motel room that unlocks with the key found inside the diner, which is the one in front of Emma's garage.



You are going to find Michael Farabee lying on the ground; dead.



Pick up the observatory keys from the ground.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act I: The Scientist




After getting the observatory keys from the motel room, Alan will make his way to the obervatory.



You will have to make your way up to the observatory.



After making your way up to the main obsersavtory's door, you will be told to go away by a woman due to the trouble you've caused. After convincing her that you're not the man who caused all the trouble, she is going to let you in.



Head inside the observatory and talk to Dr. Meadows.



Dr. Meadows will tell you that there's a strange astronomical event going on, which is transmitting a weird signal, Alan will tell her that the signal is the reason why he is there. However, she will let Alan know that Mr. Scratch was there as well and he sabotaged the imaging array.



In order to receive the signal once again, you will have to go to Dr. Meadows' car and get the backup imaging array for the telescope.



Once you've reached her car, you will have to pick up the imaging array inside the car's trunk.



On your way back to the main observatory you will get attacked by Taken spiders. In order to take them out, you will have to point the flashlight's beam at them.



After making your way back to the observatory, you will have to install the backup imaging array.



Unfortunately, the observatory is not going to work due to the pressure.



To deal with the pressure, you will have to release three coolant valves marked on the map.



Once you've released all the valves, return to Dr. Meadows.



After returning back to Dr. Meadows, you will have to defend the area from Taken coming from underneath the platform.



Go back to Dr. Meadows once you've dealt with the Taken.



She's going to tell you that the signal is rather interesting, like it was intended for them.



After talking to Dr. Meadows, go and pick up the signal printout.



Unfortunately, Alan will only receive a part of the signal from the printout machine. The signal wil show a new reality and a location on the map that he has to follow.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act I: The Curator




The location marked on the map will take Alan to a drive-in theater. Start investigating it.



Alan will meet a woman in a room next to the entrance. She is being possessed by darkness.



Pick up the generator building key found in the next room.



In order to turn the power on, you will have to go to the transformer yard after picking up the key.



You will encounter a few enemies on your way to the transformer yard.



Once you've reached the transformer yard, unlock the gate and enter inside the building where the generator's located.



After entering the building, you will notice an electricity panel at the end of the room with some flashing, green lights. In order to turn the power back on, you will have to activate the switch maching to the green light's position.



Make way your back to the guard building.



Turn on the lights inside the guard building.



After turning the lights on, the darkness will disappear and the woman will introduce herself as Serena. She's going to tell Alan that Mr. Scratch was trying to get inside the projector room and making the sun never come back up again. She is also going to give Alan the access code for the projector room.



Head to the projector building and enter inside it.



Unfortunately, the projector room is protected by darkness.



You will have to destroy all the three dark fountains using your flashlight's beam.



After entering inside the projector room, you will have to match the scene with the one on the manuscript.



Firstly, you will have to set the calendar's month to August.



And secondly, you will have to set the time to midnight.



Unfortunately, this will not fix things out. Things will only get worse and Alan will get engulfed by darkness.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act II: Setback




Alan will realize that he got into a "time loop", and he's back at the canyon. Head back to the motel and check on Emma.



Emma will let Alan know that she went out and found all the items needed, but a Taken ran off into an old mine with the battery.



You will have to enter the old mine marked on the map and retrieve the battery.



After obtaining the battery, you will get attacked by Taken spiders on your way out of the old mine.



Once you've dealt with the spiders, head back to Emma's garage and ask her to recharge your battery.



Head back to the oil field and put everything in place.



The satellite will destroy the oil tower for the second time.



Escape the destruction of the oil tower and head back to Emma.



Deal with the Taken that are trying to kill Emma.



Emma will tell Alan that she has already got the key to the motel rooms and gives it to him.



By the time you will exit Emma's garage, the doors will close shut and she'll get attacked once again. Alan will be helpless to save her.



Head inside the room with Michael Farabee in it and get the observatory keys.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act II: Progress




Alan will drive up to the observatory once again.



This time, you will have to go directly to Dr. Meadows' car and retrieve the imaging array found inside the car's truck.



After retrieving the imaging array, head back to the main observatory to install it. Dr. Rachel will remember you from the previous encounter and unlock the door for you.



Install the imaging array.



Alan will tell Dr. Rachel to not start the it up, since there's a problem with the coolant system.



This time, you will have to make your way to the primary pipes and secure them.



You will encounter a few enemies on your way to the primary pipes.



After dealing with the monsters, turn on the lights to secure the primary pipes from any monsters.



Return back to the observatory.



Dr. Rachel is assuming that everything may just be a delusion. She also lets Alan know that the signal has more information that it previously did but it's still incomplete.



Alan will pick up the print and head back to the Drive-In Theater.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act II: Relapse




Head to the guard building and take the generator building keys.



After picking up the keys, head to the generator building and restore the power.



Turn the power back on.



You will get attacked by spiders after turning the power on.



Once you've dealt with the spiders, go inside the projector building.



The projector building will be protected by darkness once again, destroy the dark fountains using your flashlight's beam.



Enter the access code and head inside the projector building.



Read the manuscript and match the scene. First, you will have to change the calendar date to the end of the summer, turn the clock to midnight, point the lamp at the fire extinguisher and flip the posters to have the film-noir Alex Casey poster visible.



Unfortunately it wasn't enough to stop the darkness. And Alan, is yet again trapped in a dark environment.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act III: Resolved




Alan will wake up in the canyon once again, for the third time.



On your way out of the canyon you will encounter a very big Taken, carrying a saw. After dealing with him, head to the oil tower.



Alan will notice that Emma has already set up the items needed.



All you have to do is activate them.



The satellite will fall out of the sky and destroy the oil tower for the third time.



On your way to Emma's garage, you will get attacked by some Taken.



After dealing with all the enemies, Emma will ask you to do something about the power that keeps turning off inside her garage, making her defenseless in front of the Taken.



You will have to secure the fuse box behind Emma's garage and return back to her.



Emma will give you the key to the motel room after returning and making sure the Taken cannot switch the power off.



Head back to the motel room with the body of Michael Farabee inside and grab the observatory keys.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act III: Completed




Alan will drive up to the observatory for the third (and hopefully) the last time.



Rachel will let you know that she has the imaging array set up and all you have to do is secure the primary coolant valves.



After securing the primary coolant system, you will get ambushed by numerous Taken.



After defeating all the Taken, you will have to destroy a car possessed by darkness that is blocking the entrance to the main observatory by using your flashlight's beam.



Once you've managed to get inside the main observatory, you will have to hold off the Taken until Dr. Rachel finishes receiving the signal, so she can shut down the telescope and turn the lights back on.



Make your way up to Dr. Rachel once the lights get back on.



Dr. Rachel is thrilled by the fact that time loops and men possessed by darkness exist.



After talking to Dr. Rachel, go and pick up the full signal printout.

Alan Wakes American Nightmare Walkthrough Act III: United




You will start off at the back of the transformer yard. You have to turn the power back on.



After restoring the power, you will get ambushed by many Taken.



Once you've dealt with the Taken, make your way to the projector building.



On your way to the projector building, you will have to deal with Mr. Scratch's security which is a lot more stronger than the normal Taken you've been dealing with.



After taking care of Mr. Scratch's security, keep heading to the projector building which is going to be defended by darkness. To get rid of the darkness, you will have to destroy four dark fountains this time.



Enter inside the projector building.



Check the manuscript by pressing 'F'. You will have to set the clock to midnight, the calendar to the end of the summer, the lamp must be pointing at the fire extinguisher, the film-noir Alex Casey poster must be visible and his wife's (Alice) movie must be in the projector; playing.



After doing everything that is written on the manuscript, Mr. Scratch will appear on top of a car, in front of the movie projection.



He will slowly start burning at the projector light of Alice's film.



The game will switch to the final scene showing Alice and Alan holding each other. This will be the ending of the game.
