Fallout 4: How to Easily Get Caps

Get Your Perks Right

Much like we suggested in our guide on how to level up faster, we’re going to suggest focusing on your perks here. For anything money related, you’re going to want to focus on Charisma and Luck for the most part. The very first option in the Charisma tree for your to use as a perk is the Cap Collector perk. Not only will this mean that you won’t have to pay as much for the goods you purchase from shopkeepers on your travels around the wasteland, but you can also sell your items for more.

Pour enough points into the Cap Collector perk and you’ll be given the option to invest 500 caps into a marketplace. In doing so, you can raise a store’s buying capacity. However, we’d suggest leaving doing something like this until you’ve got a fair few thousand caps.

The other perk you’ll want to take a look at is in the Luck perk tree, called Fortune Finder. You can invest up to four skill points into this perk, with additional point increasing the number of bottle caps you’ll find in containers around the world of Fallout 4. Max out the Fortune Finder perk and not only will you max out the number of caps you’ll find in containers, but enemies also have the chance of exploding into a shower of caps when defeated. This is a no-brainer for you to invest in if you need the caps, and will definitely combine with the other suggestions in our list to really maximize the caps you can find in the game.

Lockpick Everything

If you find a lock that needs picking, chances are there is something valuable inside. The contents of each safe or locked container is never certain, but it’s more than likely going to result in you getting a fair few caps one way or another.

Investing a couple points in the Locksmith perk in the Perception category means you can pick more difficult locks. Again logic says that someone in the wasteland isn’t going to be putting some Radroach meat behind a master lock, a couple hundred caps and a laser rifle, on the other hand, is more likely. Not only will picking locks get you the valuable items and caps that you’re after, it’s also a great way to level up faster.

Loot Bodies

When you’ve just taken down a whole bunch of raiders, you should always be heading around to their bloodied corpses and looting anything worth value from them. It may take a few minutes to go to each body if they’ve been shooting at you from all angles and at a difference but it’s worth your time to do this.

Human enemies tend to be the best for grabbing caps off of when they’re deceased. Even a few caps off each body is going to all add up in the long run as your kill counter goes through the roof.

Sell Your Stuff

During your travels across the wasteland you’re gonna pick up a lot of stuff. A lot of this you’re never really going to use or need, so you should be selling everything. Whenever you spot a vendor or Brahmin caravan, head over and empty anything unnecessary out of your inventory.

Of course, there are going to be junk items you’re going to want to hold onto for crafting, but try and keep a good balance between crafting resources and what can be sold for caps. By selling a lot of the spare weapons, armor and any chems that you don’t sell, your caps wallet will be full to bursting in no time.

Loot Everywhere

Fallout 4’s wasteland is full of nooks and crannies for you to explore. While some of the game’s quests will have you actively searching some of these locations in depth, you may walk past many secondary locations as you try and remind yourself to check back their later. Short story is, you’re more than likely going to forget.

Make sure you’re going and checking back at every location and shelter that you can go and explore during your journey across the wasteland. A lot of secondary, smaller locations tend to have cap stashes, safes, cash registers or just splatterings of caps lying all over the place.  It may seem like it’s taking time away from the main quests of the game, but that’s part of this huge open worlds beauty. Explore every nook and cranny and you’ll be rewarded with more caps and loot than you can shake a stick at.
