Mid

A fan named Chris recently emailed me this:

"I think your site is great.  I've been playing about 2-months and have 4-million in power.  I surprised there are not more blogs/forums like yours giving tips and info.  My biggest challenge right now is transitioning from 'the basics' to more intermediate strategies.

Any tips geared towards a mid-level on how to grow to the next level, and win on kill weekends?

For example, I learned that to place in the top-100 (bracket SH 15-19) this past weekend you needed 2.6 million points.  That was the cut-off (based on e-mailing positions 98, 99, 100 and getting two responses).  On my best weekend I've only scored about 500,000 points.  How does one amass 2.6 million points (other than playing 24x7 with an endless amount of troops and hitting everything that moves)?  What does a good 'target' look like?"

First off, I'd love to hear the readers' responses to this question, because all kingdoms are different. Some are easier to get kills in than others are. As for my experience with transitioning into becoming a mid-level player, I suggested learning:

-How to tile hit often in kill events.

-How to choose a target.

-Plan AHEAD of time what you will do if you get attacked in certain scenarios.

-Practice the fastest possible way to activate a shield, start a rally, occupy a tile, and recall your troops from a tile. You will need to become very quick at doing these things if you want to survive in "the heat of a battle".

-What type of play style are you going to choose (I mentioned play styles in this post on gem selection).

-Which players in your alliance are on at the same time as you so you can effectively coordinate rally attacks and protection.

In regards to your question about how to win on kill events, I don't ever try to win kill events myself because I would lose so many troops trying to get even 100th place when a spender could just take out a whole hive at very minimal cost to his/her T4s and easily beat me in score rankings. But, the way I get my kills is always by tile hitting a medium sized (half my power or larger) enemy of ours, or by rallying a hive with a couple members at my power ranking or much higher. I do not recommend hitting castles with lots of traps unless you are rallying it with 3-5 members and you have a decent amount of siege. Otherwise you will lose too many troops. Really though, just try to tile hit as many enemies as you can, it's way more effective. Some people will message you crying because tile hitting is "cheating", "dirty", "mean", "not cool", "what only satan would do". In reality, it's just another part of the game that makes game of war a "game of war". Don't feel bad about it.

Hoped that helped Chris! Comment below if you have any more clarification questions :)
