PS4, Xbox One Fail to Make You Happy [We Ask You Results]

The phony war of words is over, with both the PS4 and Xbox One now available to buy in stores. That is if you can find one anywhere, as both sold extremely well at launch.

Sony and Microsoft managed to shift 1 million units of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively, so there are a lot of people currently spending their time getting to grips with new consoles.

With that in mind we sought to find out how people were getting on with their new multimedia hubs (which also happen to play games) in last week’s We Ask You.

Next-Gen Numpties

We asked you, Are You Happy With Your New PS4 Or Xbox One? To be completely honest this debate failed to ignite in the way we had hoped, and actually morphed into something else entirely. We had imagined it would prompt people who had bought a PS4 or Xbox One at launch to talk about how happy/disappointed they were with their new purchases, but what we got was people condemning both consoles for various reasons.

This means there are no real conclusions to draw from the responses to the question posed. Instead, we’re left assuming that very few MakeUseOf readers bought a PS4 or Xbox One at launch, and those that did have no interest in discussing their experiences so far. Or perhaps they’re just too busy playing games to get involved.

Luckily for those who haven’t spent their hard-earned cash on a new console yet, MakeUseOf is giving both a PS4 and Xbox One away. The PS4 giveaway ends on Dec. 13, while the Xbox One review and giveaway will appear on the site soon.

Comment Of The Week

We received some good comments, but only one that really stood out from the crowd. This has, therefore, won ‘Comment Of The Week’… which goes to PCForMe, who won with this comment:

They’re both disappointing, though it is much more apparent with the Xbone.
Xbone for many reasons, my main one is that its literally the ultimate spying machine, its overpriced and underpowered, its distinct lack of indie games, its approach to micro transactions that are littered throughout almost ever release, and its basically a brick until you update it, which requires xbox live.
PS4 for less reasons, bad launch titles, PS+, though I do like that it attempts to remain a gaming machine, while the Xbone is trying to be an “all in one entertainment center”.
The latest console generation (I will not call it next-gen) is a huge disappointment, I had hoped they would have some major improvements considering its the last generation of consoles, but I guess the crystallization of that fact has made them into ever worse money grubbers.
I’ll stay on PC maybe buy PS4 in 2-3 years when the prices drops (and they build up an actual game library).

We chose this comment because it clearly explains why one person isn’t buying into the next-gen console hype. This is clearly a PC gamer who was hoping for something exciting to emerge with this latest generation of hardware, but he or she isn’t impressed with what they has seen so far. Which is completely fair, though hopefully there is better to come.
