Bioshock Infinite players that finish the game on any skill level will get access to the game’s “1999 Mode”, a brutally difficult challenge for veteran FPS players. But what if you don’t want to play through the game twice to unlock it? It turns out that you can enter a code to unlock the extra difficulty tier from the get-go.
According to Game Informer, if you press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Cancel, Confirm, you’ll unlock the mode when on the main menu for Infinite. If the code sounds familiar, you’ve probably played too much Contra in your lifetime.
Be forewarned, Irrational put the hurdle of beating the game once in there for a reason. This mode will make enemies more difficult, resources harder to come by, and Elizabeth’s resurrections more costly.
Bioshock Infinite is out tomorrow on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
