Max Payne 3: The Complete Series takes you even deeper into the tortured mind of Max Payne. This graphic novel takes you from Max’s troubled childhood to his early years on the police force finally leading up to the events that take place in a run down Hoboken bar that lead to the beginning of the Max Payne 3 video game.

Max Payne 3: The Complete Series is broken down into 3 separate sections that showcase everything Max has gone through starting with After The Fall. This section starts with Max in the Hoboken bar as trouble is starting. Max recalls his rough childhood which sheds some new light on the way Max acts. Learning about his mother, abusive father and what happens to them really helps you understand Max a little better.

The second section is titled Hoboken Blues and it explores the circumstances of Max’s life that lead up to the fateful meeting with Tony DeMarco in the Hoboken bar. After humiliating Tony DeMarco in the first section Max now sits at the bar recalling more parts of his life, specifically how he met his wife, had a child and what eventually happened to them.

The final section is titled Fight And Flight and completes Max Payne’s story leading up to what happens in the Max Payne 3 video game. This section reveals more about Max during his time as an aspiring young officer and his early victory’s over crime. Max recalls his bringing down of the Punchinello criminal organization and how that eventually leads to his meeting with Tony DeMarco in the Hoboken bar.

Max Payne 3: The Complete Series is an amazing graphic novel that doesn’t just retell the same old story we all know from the games. This graphic novel gives us a chance to learn more about Max while understanding more about how Max ends up in the situations he ends up in so often.

Max Payne 3: The Complete Series is a great example of how to take a much loved video game and turn it into something more then just reading about the things we already know. Learning how everything in Max’s life connects to one another in some way is amazing and adds more weight to the already great story of Max Payne.
