End Of The Beginning
Enjoy the opening text as you ease yourself into the world of Dragon’s Dogma. Once you have control of your character, you will be asked if you have a light source. Pull up your menu and equip your lantern so you can see the room.
Follow Salde as he converses with you. You will quickly run into a massive dragon. Keep following Salde until you reach the stone.. it looks like you’ll be fleeing instead of fighting for the time being.
After the cutscene with Quince and Morganna, proceed straight up the path and dispose of the goblins.
After Quince asks if there are any survivors, you will be shown a quick cutscene. Afterwards, observe the dashing tutorial in the lower right hand corner of your screen.
Head up the path and to the right and save Ser Ashrore from the enemies around him. Afterwards, approach him and speak to him.
Head up the stairs past the bodies for another very short cutscene. You will need to take out that bird afterwards. While it is intimidating, it is actually fairly easy with all of your new recruits aiding you.
Approach and observe the gate. You can’t get through it just yet- you will have to take out the birds at first. Your allies will lure them onto the ground. After a bit of fighting, the gate will open and you will have some more allies come through.
Continue up the path through the door. Ser is going to be guiding you and offering some commentary along the way.
You will see a pretty intimidating cut scene and will have to take out the chimera after watching it tear the soldier to shreds. This thing’s tail can poison you, so take care to fight accordingly and take the tail out first. Your allies will be of great help here too. I’ve gotta say, the battle gameplay is legit so far!
Whenever the lion stops moving, hit it with magic. Your allies will shout hints to you as the battle progresses so follow their lead!
Call of the Arisen
Your first task will be to set up your character. Choose your vocation and your weapons as to what suits you best.
Head through the door for a cutscene. I love that archaic spelling of “magick” they choose to use in the subtitles. Like I said, this game is looking legit!
Head to the inn once you have control of your character to pick up some goodies. The inn is going to be one building past your house- it’s large and hard to miss.
Talk to Rojay by the water, who will reaffirm that there are monsters that need to be dealt with. Once you have done that, approach the large gate for a cutscene with Adaro.
Once you are outside the gate, you won’t have to travel too far down the path to encounter some goblins. These things are easy pickings and provide experience for you. You will also be able to find rabbits out here to kill. This latter quest might not be the manliest of tasks, eh?
After you clean up the area of hostiles, talk to Reynard.
Head down the long path, taking care to conserve your stamina. You will get a note at the bottom of the screen if you do not manage it wisely. This is very important in Dragon’s Dogma. Approach the door and examine it and you will be taken to a save screen.
Once you are in the encampment, go up the stairs directly in front of you for a quick cutscene.
Examine the thing that looks like a tablet of sorts. You will get a lot of background information on the Arisen, as well as receive the option to partake in the Call of the Arisen quest.
Approach the gate to your left and talk to the guard. Afterwards, approach the gate across from the first one for the next cutscene. Yeah, that thing is going to be your next opponent.
You will be able to press Square to climb on the back of larger monsters. This battle is best fought by keeping your distance and attacking from afar. This will highly reduce the rate at which you’ll take damage.
A Rude Awakening
Head back to the encampment. Head up the stairs. Here you can meet Ecbal, who will be of extreme use to you. You will be able to get new skills and rest (you don’t need to now, but the option’s always available).
Approach the tablet next to Ecbal. Looks like you pass the bar. Now, you’ll get to customize a partner to bring on your quest. You’ll get to create someone pretty specific so have fun with it.
Enjoy the next cutscene and take note of the prompt that says that your partner’s knowledge is an important aspect of this gameplay.
After you hit the next checkpoint, you will find yourself in a rift. There will be plenty of pawns here, and you can pick a few to enter a covenant with and recruit to your party.
Once you recruited who you want, observe the thing that looks like a tablet to exit the rift back to the encampment.
Talk to Ser Berne twice in order to begin your training.
Your first job is going to be to haul freight. Your first task will be to move the cargo. Speed is key here so mash on your control to keep moving.
Once you complete this successfully, you will have to endure some combat training. Here, make sure that each class is taking care of the appropriate enemies in order to successfully pass.
Once you complete your training, approach Mercedes and talk to her. Choose the option to rest.
You will awake to a big mess. After the cutscene, you will have to fight this Hydra. It looks damn near impossible, but fear not, for this battle ends prematurely after a few hits. Pick the first option when you talk to Mercedes to complete the Rude Awakening quest.
The Road To Gran Soren
Talk to Mercedes by the gate and it will open. Your next quest- Escort to the Capitol- will now become available.
Head down the path and dispose of the weak random enemies in your path. Once you hit the pass you will be ambushed by a bunch of birds so be ready to shoot them down with magic.
After disposing of the second wave of flying enemies, be sure to heal after the battle before you proceed up the path. There will be more random enemies with low health, so rack up the experience!
Move along the path and up the slope until you find yourself chased by a boulder. Step over to the side in order to avoid it.
Proceed along the one path (it’s not really possible to get lost here) until you start going down the very steep slope and run into the goblin.
After the fighting, a giant gate will open up and there will be several more goblins to deal with.
As you keep moving up the path past the two trees, there will be yet another wave of goblins for you to beef up on.
Mercedes will point out that Gran Soren is close once you begin to approach it. Directly after, be prepared to fight off some bandits.
At the very top of the path, you will be able to enter Gran Soren (once the Caravan finally gets there.. ).
After a lengthy cutscene, you will be awarded the Courier Achievement .
Lure of the Abyss
Talk to Steffan- the man with the gray beard for a quest option. You can also talk to Asalam to learn new skills if you’re into that. You can find a shop that will give you several options to upgrade your equipment. Don’t be afraid to spend a decent amount of the money you have investing in your character’s stats at this point.
Speak to Sir Camillus and he will grant you access to the Pawn Guild. You can recruit a new member here if you choose. Either way, enjoy the cutscene introducing Barnaby.
After the cutscene and sorting out your pawn situation, talk to Barnaby again.
After the cutscene, Barnaby will reveal more information.
Head north on the map. You will have to go through a number of creatures which can be disposed of easily. Take them out from a distance to reduce your risk of taking large amounts of damage.
Once you reach the top of the pathway you will find a level that you can hit to move the gate. Your game will save afterwards. You will also need to take out a wave of the same undead enemies you have been starting to see.
Keep moving to the end of the passageway until you reach the CGI cutscene of the gate opening up.
Head east on the map and make sure not to get too detached from your allies- you will need their help in disposing of the hostiles that cross your path.
Head all the way down the stairs to reach a save point. Head back and loop around the path to reach a level and move yet another gate.
Head up north past the giant creature. You can try fighting it, but I really wouldn’t recommend it right now. Try to just get by it and move along.
Once you reach the end of the path you will be taken to a quick loading screen and a save point. If you got separated with your allies, you will now be reunited.
Talk to Barnaby again in order to complete your quest.
Seeking Salvation
Make sure you get your rest and do your shopping and ability setting before starting on this next part of the game.
Talk to Meridith, who will tell you that Mason spends his day in the slums. Right, now to locate the slums..
The slums are located past the barbershop and next to the aqueduct. Talk to Mason, the man with the icon over his head, as soon as you hit the slums.
Make two lefts to take your character around the corner and exit out the gate to Gransys.
Head right along the shore until your allies observe a tower in the distance. Keep moving to the right and along the edge of the path and you will get a notice that the ground is uneven.. you will need to be careful and watch your footing.
Keep moving along the path and through the enemies. Once you cross the bridge, you will hit Gran Soren.
Head into the city and follow the red circle on your mini map to talk to Ser Sairus. The catacombs are northwest, and they are your next destination. You can consider entering the rift and getting a new pawn before you head off.
Once you get outside the city, start heading northwest. You will have to fight a good amount of hostile enemies out here. With the soldier type enemies, counter attacking directly after they strike works well. Other than that, try to pay attention to what your allies are telling you, as they usually yell repetitive but useful hints.
You will find a decrepit building called the Collapsed Meeting Room on your way. There’s a few small items you can pick up quickly so go inside and loot.
Keep heading northwest until you hit the Deos Hills.
Examine the stone to save your game. You will have an opportunity to change your pawn situation if need be. The journey over here should have been a good gauge of that.
Once inside the catacombs, hit the lever to open the door. A bunch of enemies will come pouring out. You will need to equip your lantern for this segment and move slowly.
Hit the switch at the end of the path and take the elevator platform down to hit a save point.
Head past the locked door and use your best magic when you hit the group of ghosts.
Keep following the path to the west and south towards the red circle. You will need to heavily rely on your allies in order to dispose of the undead enemies. Make sure your spacing is right and that your allies have a direct line of attack towards the enemies. Sometimes this means luring the enemies into more wide open spaces.
Once you head down south far enough and the path begins to curve eastward, you will find a pretty good amount of treasure that’s yours for the taking.
When you hear a voice beyond the door, head around the path and observe the gathering. How cultish and creepy..
You will have a fight after the cutscene in which you can go all out since it is the last one of the quest. After your victory, another cutscene will come your way. Now, you will finally be able to finish off your quest. Once you have done so, exit the catacombs and backtrack southeast to Gran Soren.
Mountain Waycastle And Beyond
Head outside of Gran Soren and follow the path south.
Move through the waves of enemies using your allies. They will warn you of preemptive attacks or groups of hostiles to watch out for.
Turn left after the junction directly after you escape from the boulder.
At the top of the cliff, you will find a cage surrounded by chaos. This is your chance to complete the Leave No Prisoner quest. It’s a quick fight so I suggest you have your allies surround the cage and take care of business.
Cross the bridge to the Mountain Waycastle.
You will encounter a stone and will be able to enter a rift to change your pawn situation at this point. If you have had trouble with any of the battles since you left town, I recommend reconfiguring.
Pull up your map and find the Encampment. This is your next destination. You will have to follow the path around. Watch your stamina carefully here and be conservative with your resources when you fight the enemies along the way. This part of the game is more about endurance than brute strength.
You will have a boss here to fight of sorts- a Cyclops. Now this thing hits HARD and has a very large amount of HP. Make sure you coordinate all of your classes and keep even spacing. If you get too close to this thing, it will hurt you. The big upside here is that it does move slow. Stay patient and continue to back up- try to keep a sizable gap between yourselves and the cyclops. Long range magical attacks such as the High Ingle work best here.
When you lower the Cyclop’s first H.P. bar to a small fraction, your allies will tell you to hit the legs. Watch out for the Cyclops going berserk as it can cover a lot of ground very quickly when it does.
A victory against the Cyclops means completion of the Ambush quest. You will be able to access the rift through a stone in the encampment after the fight.
Talk to Nathaniel to learn skills, get rest, or buy something. Nathaniel is located by the group of tents.
Merchants and Monsters
Use the map marker to find the entrance to the Ancient Quarry. You will face a troll in the beginning which can easily be disposed of using strikes such as Brontide and Comestion.
Take the path straight up until it turns extremely dark. Head down the stone steps and down the tunnel where you will run into some goblins.
For the next ogre you run into, you will be able to pick up an explosive and throw him at him before initiating the fight. Turn your sound up so you can hear where the ogre is. Right around the corner from him, you will pass by an explosive. Pick it up and throw it at the ogre to give yourself a good advantage.
Head up the path towards the red marker on the map, jump down the few steps into the tunnel passageway and make a right. If it’s dark in here for you, consider equipping a lantern to spot all the spiders that are running around.
There are going to be a few trolls here that you will need to take out. This is best done by a patient and steady barrage of BOTH physical and magical attacks from your different pawns. Hm, maybe we should start calling them allies.
Head deeper into the quarry until one of your allies points out that the path looks interesting. Observe the cracks in the rocky wall next to this area and examine them.
Head all the way down the quarry path until you reach Gransys and talk to Alon.
Head up towards the red map marker back inside of the quarry to locate any ogres that you may have missed killing. Talk to Alon again once you are back outside to get your reward. This will be the completion of the quest Merchants and Monsters.
A Fortress Besieged/a>
The name of the game in this quest is simple: reclaim the Stone of the Southwest from its goblin attackers. Execution wise, this may be one of the tougher quests you’ll go on so be sure to properly equip yourself.
Use the map marker to locate the fortress and talk to the captain once you do so.
Go through the whole and dispose of the wave of bat enemies for easy experience.
Climb up the stairs and go up the next staircase as well. There will be more enemies on the roof for you to deal with.
Jump from the roof you are on onto the next roof. Surprise! More goblins.
You will be shot at from across the courtyard. In order to find the missing level, head to the large hut across the courtyard. If you go deep inside it towards where the cells are located, you can find the level in the chest. Backtrack to the entrance once you do so.
Proceed back along the path until you hit the cutscene where the goblins open the door and come bursting through. The big goblin chief in charge will start cursing the world and sputtering creepy things.
The next cutscene can be triggered during the battle with the silver knights. Simply take out their leader to trigger the cutscene.
Your last task in order to complete this quest is to return to Gran Soren. Use your map to head all the way back there. The Captain seems to be congratulating you, although he doesn’t seem all happy. You will be rewarded with experience and a nice amount of currency for your efforts.
A Nameless Terror
In this quest, the Arisen is being tracked by a group of assassins. You will need to confront them at night and eliminate them.
Go to Gran Soren and use the map to orient yourself and find the southern gate. Head to the southern gate and talk to Ser Rickhart once you do so.
Rickhart will give you a piece of paper after a disturbing cutscene. This will officially initiate the quest.
Unfortunately, there are no mapmarkers for this quest so I will have to direct you specifically. Head northwest from Gran Soren and across the bridge. Go up the path and search for the assassins in the group of skeletons.
Backtrack to the Ancient Quarry and go up to the northern side of it. You will find your next target right outside this entrance.
Go back to Gran Soren and take the path that backtracks to Mountain Waycastle (see the Mountain Waycastle And Beyond section if you forgot). If you get to the in between point, search the hill north of the Mountain Cottage. Although you have no map markers for the enemies, you can reference the map to find these landmarks anytime.
From Mountain Waycastle, take the path towards the Encampment area. Go to the Abandoned Storehouse and search slightly northwest of there.
After your victory, your quest will update. Go all the way back to Cassadris to fight Zero, the leader of the assassins. This quest’s reward totals to 30,000 in gold, 12,000 XP, and a letter that reads “All children of the true god know the Arisen is the end of hope, not its source. See this evil expunged.” Hm. Seems along the lines of the letter you read at the beginning of the quest. Oh well. If you’re the Arisen, there are bound to be several people mad at you. Congratulations on completing this main quest!
