Gravity Rush Walkthrough
Welcome to the Gravity Rush walkthrough, where we’ll teach you to become a gravitational master with the Playstation Vita. In this ambitious early entry into the system, you’ll really show gravity who’s boss with the Vita’s built in gyroscope. One button press will launch the hero Kat into the air, where you’ll be able to twist your Vita to point her in any direction. Using this skill, you’ll travel over massive open areas with optional quests to gain further experience and get better at using your gravity-defying powers to travel the world.
It sounds confusing only because it is. Join our on-going walkthrough below and save Kat’s city from monstrous invasion in this cell-shaded action-adventure open-worlder. For more information, rush to the trophies and cheats pages.
Check back for new updates.
Shadows Over The City
So, your main character doesn’t have any recollection of who she is/what she is doing. Well, at least we have a cat! In fact, follow that cat down the path and up the stairs to start off this chapter.
Observe the next tutorial for how to release yourself from gravity and to follow targets. This is essentially a lesson in maneuvering and is very important to the game.
Tilt your PS Vita around during the next cutscene and have some fun with this 3D Comic effect. Did I mention I think this game is awesome?
You will engage in your first battle shortly after the cutscene. Just move around and use your basic attacks to take out the first wave of enemies.
Before the next wave of enemies appear, you will be able to observe a tutorial for how to attack from the air. It’s pretty self explanatory and will give you a strong edge over these next few monsters.
Note the two bars in the upper right corner. The blue is your gravitational power reserve. Keep an eye on it and be careful with it- you can only do things like stand on buildings for so long.
Move yourself from purple ring to purple ring as you get more accustomed to the controls of the game.
Approach the greenish looking machine in the center of the fountain circle (on the opposite side of the statue in the water) and examine it.
After the cutscene you will have a back and forth conversation with the old woman.
Approach the massive purple thing but do not touch it or you will be transported back into the tunnel. Instead head northwest from where you are and observe the massive pillar (almost looks like it just blends in with the sky, doesn’t it?).
Head into the town square and you will be ambushed by a giant thing with an extremely slim, long, and strange head. They’re not as hard as they look as long as you move away quickly and dodge their initial ambush by jumping out of the way out stepping to the side.
Head down to the next empty area and approach the object that is lightly up. It’s a bed. Grab it and take it to the tunnel cover.
Enter another comic montage. Enjoy.
Head to the end of the pathway and look to the right. Here, you will be able to find your house and enter it.
Gravity Undone
You will hear a scream right outside your room. Your character believes that the sound came from up above, so up you go!
Head across the ledge in the same direction and you will run into an old woman that will need saving. Do her a favor and earn yourself some experience while you’re at it.
Pick up the item right next to her and head back to your room. We movin’ on up!
Get up on the balcony and float your way down. Make sure to collect as many purple gems as possible as these are the key to getting good and consistent upgrades.
Move around the edges of the buildings and continue to collect the purple gems.
Talk to the man by the adjacent benches in the center of the open area and he will give you a desk.
Now, all you need to locate is a bed. Take the shortcut through the sewers and start the conversation with the person in the blue and white. Bed luck? Kind of.
Be wary as you will start running into enemies around here. Be sure to keep moving- not just left and right, but also up and down. Using your ariel strikes is key against these guys.
Hit all of the purple rings along the edge of the wall and go get your bed. Fly it back by maneuvering yourself. The house is starting to look like a house.
Kat’s Move List
Kick:
A kick is the most basic of your attacks. As such, damage is minimal but the attack can be used at quickly and at a high rate. When you press the button in succession, Kat will start to do some cool combination such as chops. The intensity and awesomeness of your attack can be increased by using purple gems.
Gravity Kick:
You can perform a gravity kick if you shift while being stationary or free falling. If you kick during this time, you will hit the point of the ground beneath you. Kat will hone into the enemies that appear in the vicinity. Pretty simple eh? The power and gravity of the kick, as well as the kick’s ability to hone and track down enemies, can all be increased via spending gems. Timing is absolutely key,
There will be several situations (in the beginning it happens more often than not) where you will have to adjust your gravity kick midair. Use the right direction pad to get the enemy in the middle of your screen and kick again. This is, again, crucial in regards to timing. If you press kick at the wrong time and immediately realize that you will miss your enemy, you can pull out and readjust the kick.
The final thing to take note of with the gravity kick is what happens after the kick itself takes place. Kat will bounce off whatever she hits, and you can use your left d pad in order to aim her in the direction you want her to boucne off in. This is absolutely key for maneuvering and being able to travel while staying in the air. Certain checkpoints and destinations are also much more easily accessible this way.
Gravity Slide
You can slide in Gravity Rush by pressing and holding the right and left edges on the sides of your screen. Shake or jolt the Vita in order to jump while sliding. In order to steer, you need to rotate and maneuver the Vita. The best part is that if there are any enemies in your way, Kat will be able to take them out, making this an extremely effective attack to use against enemies congregating in a large group in one area.
Jump:
Your basic jump is very simple and can be executed with X (pun intended!). You’ll mostly be using it to reposition your direction and such, since you’re spending a lot of this game going back and forth between gravity and antigravity.
Sommersault:
You can perform a sommersault by pressing X, L, and R qucikly one after another. This type of jump doesn’t use too much gravitational power and will allow you to access some higher ledges and places.
Shifting:
Press R to shift in this game. When we say shift in Gravity Rush, it actually means switching into a state of Zero Gravity. Use the right directional buttons to aim your fall and release when you are ready. The fall ends as soon as you touch a solid object.
If you want to increase the speed of your fall, hold X as you’re in antigravity mode. You can start/stop the increase in speed during any points of the fall.
In order to get out of antigravity world and to cease the shifting, hit L. If you are mid flight, be wary of your momentum.
Grab:
You can grab objects using the circle button. This will immediately initiate the antigravity mode of this game. By picking up the objects and releasing them one at a time using the O button, you can deal some hefty damage. You will throw enemies and the ground. Items are thrown in the direction you are facing. Some of these items, when thrown at enemies, can cause MASSIVE amounts of damage. You can increase the amount of objects you can grab and carry with you by spending gems.
Dodge:
Ahh, the Playstation Vita’s interfact gets a little chance to shine here. In order to dodge, you can essentially flick the part of the screen which is the direction you want Kat to dodge in. You can do this anytime and it will interrupt literally any attacks. If you are holding items, you will not drop them but continue to hold them instead- keep this in mind for some creative combinations. After performing the flick and the dodge, you can also hit Square for a hefty counter attack .
Home Sweet Home
In the beginning of this episode, step out of your cozy abode and back out into the sewers.
Release from the gravity and propel yourself directly upwards.
Head around the elevated ledge that forms the perimeter of the sewers. Head across the bridge that connects the two sides- you will notice that there are people on it.
Head outside to the courtyard with the fountain and take out the enemies in the vicinity.
Head around the perimeter and jump the large gap. Use your gravity kick as you dive into the next area in order to get yourself a headstart on the next wave of enemies.
When you see the large black animal like creatures, the best way to take them out is (once again) the gravity kick in this case. Make sure you are angled carefully enough and you will be able to take them out in a single blow. The angle is very sensitive so make sure to tilt your Vita accordingly. Once you get the sweet spot, you’ll be able to repeat the action without a sweat.
Head around the perimeter and approach the green cannon type of thing. Examine it to lower the bridge.
Your next quest is essentially a race. Pull up the map BEFORE the race starts if you are confused about where to go.
Once the timer counts down, begin sprinting towards the checkpoints.
The most surefire way to get through this time trial is to use a combination of both sprinting and gravity power. This is best accomplished by running until you have a direct line of sight to your next checkpoint and then using your gravity power for a quick power burst to propel you there.
To get to your next collection destination, you will need to pull your map up frequently. The fact that this game doesn’t have a compass has become increasingly noticeable at this point, wouldn’t you say?
Observe the tutorial for picking up objects and using them as projectiles.
In this upcoming battle, use the barrels that are scattered around the field and use them to destroy your foes. Make sure to get the ones near the rooftops in order to complete the challenge.
Head up and around the terrace to find the last selection bin. You will be rewarded with a cutscene of.. an elevator?
The next race is very similar to before, except this time you have to pick up all the energy along the way. If you don’t, you will not be able to use enough gravity power to propel yourself fast enough to win. If you don’t pick one up, start over. They’re mandatory in this race.
Use the same strategy of running until you have a direct line to the next checkpoint and using your gravity energy once you do so. You will find yourself taking much fewer steps so watch yourself and be on your toes! Congratulations for completing this segment of the game.
Hekseville
Enjoy the suggestive opening comic strip.
Once you have control of your character, you will have to head to the church roof. Instead of going up the large staircase in front of you, use your gravity abilities to move along the right side of the wall for a massive shortcut.
Head down the wall and pick up the energy. If you are going the right way, you will get an observation that security is light in the area you’re in.
Keep running up the wall towards the map marker until Kat says she can get the sacred gem from where she is. Follow her instructions and approach your goal for a cutscene.
As you move along the path, you will bump into another cutscene. Seems there’s something not entirely right with your ally…
Your next task is to follow Syd. In the center circular area, you will find more of the large animal like black enemies. Once again, use your Gravity Kick to dispose of them easily.
Once you get the prompt that there are enemies all over the place, observe the tutorial for throwing objects into enemies. This is a great technique to use against foes that are heavily armored.
You will have another fairly large wave of enemies to dispose of. This time, use a combination of the ever trusty gravity kick along with your newly acquired ability to hurl objects at enemies.
The next cutscene is tense. Try to enjoy it anyway. Man, this animation really makes Gravity Rush one of a kind.
Use your gravity ability to head across the empty space between the two sets of ledges and pick the option to start a conversation with the man standing at the edge.
Take a shortcut through the sewers. Once you come up on the other side, you have completed the level. Well done!
