Recruit Missions
Recommended Gun Customization:
Receiver: Sturm Rifle
Barrel: Dunali
Magazine: Sturm Rifle
Sight: N/A
Stock: Sturm Rifle
Ammunition: N/A
This combination creates a ridiculously powerful machine gun that tears through enemies early in the game. Getting the Dunali barrel should be first priority, then the Sturm Rifle Magazine and Reciever.
With this weapon, you’ll have no trouble handling the threats in this series of missions. Getting it will be tricky, though. You’ll need lots of Steel and Wood. Wood is dropped by Mandragora, while Steel is dropped by regular green soldiers. Farm it whenever you can.
Guns N’ Blades
Prepare for action, Kings. To start missions, talk to the Colonel to select a mission, then talk to the helicopter pilot to take off.
The first mission is fairly simple, you just need to find the freelancer Lawless to the right of the starting point.
Once Lawless is rescued, you’ll be able to craft and customize guns. For now you’ve got a trusty pistol.
Every mission has a timer. Don’t wait around, the goal can be tough to reach in time. If the timer runs up, you’ll lose.
At the start of every mission, you’ll appear outside a medical building. For each mission, you’ll start with 3 lives. When you die, you’ll respawn at the hospital.
Open the map with [Select] at the start of the mission. From here, you can see the Jungle Path Map. Scroll right to see an orange “X” at the end of the path. That’s where you’ll find Lawless.
Every map is large, with multiple paths. Why? Because you’ll be returning to this map later. Don’t worry about learning all about the map yet, just move right.
Drop down into the cave by holding down and jumping. Deeper into the cave, use rolls to get under low ceilings. From here, the path splits.
The upper path is slightly easier, with more platforming and mandragora enemies. The lower path has more spearmen and drillers, so pick your poison.
Don’t forget to select your medical kit when your health is low to heal. You also start the mission with two grenades.
Watch out for spearmen. If they’re a level above you, they will stab downward. To escape the attack, roll path them.
At the end, you’ll encounter robotic snails. Wait for them to stick their heads out, then open fire.
To rescue Lawless, shoot her down. Returning to base, you’ll now have a gunstore to work with.
Save Ironside!
This is a rescue mission. There are eight hostages scattered around the area. Some are in cages, but all are tied up. One shot with your pistol will free them from ropes, it’s just that easy!
Don’t wander away from the POW Camp South. Continue right and climb the wooden ramps to find zip-lines stretches across the spikes below. Jump onto the angled rope to slide across.
You might notice enemies drop items. Collect them by ducking nearby. Every enemy will drop one of two items; a common item, and a rare item. Items are always dropped by the same enemy, but there’s no guarantee you’ll get a drop.
Take the Mandragora enemies, the little living plants. They’re likely to drop wood, but rarely they will also drop amber.
You can collect as many materials as you want, there’s no limit. Grab everything you can, you’ll want all the materials for crafting new guns, armor, or knives at the base. Speak with Lawless to see what items you need to construct different gun parts.
Here’s where you’ll find all the hostages; the first is located inside a building at the center of the southern camp. It’s below the higher door – enter the door below, still above the ground.
Further right, you’ll find a white and red building. Crack open the cage outside and free the second hostage. This is also the first Kickstarter hostage, nice!
Climb up from the white and red building to find another wooden house. Go inside to find another hostage.
That’s all the hostages on the southern side of the camp. Go to the northern camp by entering the door just right of the spiked pit you got across with the zip-line. Through that door, you’ll enter the northern camp.
Enter the open building to find a utility room holding a fourth hostage. Halfway there!
Move left, and use the zip-line to reach yet another open room. There’s a hostage inside, and if you were watching carefully, you might’ve spotted another hostage in a cage while sliding down the zip-line.
Jump up and right to reach the hostage in the cage. Shoot it open and free him. You’re almost done now.
The final two hostages are in a building to the left of the previous hostage. It’s the last one in the northern camp. Get inside, free the hostages, and you’ve got another mission in the bag.
Torture Cabin
Time to save Ironside. Luckily, there’s only one hostage to save this time – but you’ll have to cross the tricky Ruins map to do it.
Open the map to spot Ironside’s location. He’s inside a building, halfway up a large mountain on the right side of the map.
To get there, jump across the ruins and spike pits until reaching a cave entrance blocked by a concrete wall. Watch out for these concrete walls with large brass handles – they can only be destroyed with C4.
Luckily, there’s enough C4 supplied in the stage to get through every wall. Break the red crate next to the agent, and talk to him to learn how to drop items from your inventory.
Don’t worry, you can pick up dropped items. Take the C4, you can only carry one at a time, and set it next to the wall.
Back away, and press the attack button again to blow the wall. It’s just that easy. But, you’ll need more C4 to continue.
Enter the cave, and shoot through the snipers. At about the mid-point, there’s a passage that leads right and into the camp. Avoid it for now, instead continue jumping to the top of the vertical cave until you come out on top.
Move right, where you’ll find several floating alarm robots. Past them, in the corner are two more red crates. Grab another C4, then return to that passage in the vertical cave leading right.
At the end of the path, there’s another wall. Blast it open with C4, and you’ll be home free. Now, you just need to fight your way to the Torture Cabin marked with an “X” on your map. It’s a straightforward path, just remember to stock up on rations or healing items before the mission, and the rest shouldn’t be a problem.
Past the camp, climb the ladders and jump onto the green grass platform above to reach the torture cabin. Shoot the hostage to free him, and you’ll unlock Ironside in the base.
Speak with Ironside to craft new knives. Pretty handy, don’t forget to upgrade your knife – even if having an awesome shooter should always be top priority.
There are a few more secrets to collect in the level. Right after the second wall, drop down to find another wall. You can return to the top of the vertical cave to find another C4 to get the Gold Coin.
Below the torture cabin is another cave protected by robotic snails. At the end is another C4. Grab it and jump down the ladder into the underground near the cave entrance. Avoid the driller-girl and you’ll find yet another wall. Blast it open to find a crate with a Gold Coin.
Raw Materials
This is a simple materials mission, tasking you with finding 10 lead. As bonus objectives, you can also find 4 wood and 2 glass.
You’ll have 30 minutes, which is plenty of time if you know where to find the items. Crates scattered around contain lead – or you can farm soldiers. The basic standing soldier in green will randomly drop lead. These guys are all over the central camp areas, and will respawn.
Go to the caves on the left of the North Camp to find Mandragora. These little running plant-creatures will drop wood. Just move the camera away from the area, and these guys will quickly respawn, making farming for the 4 wood a cinch.
Get glass from Snipers. These guys like to hang out on the roofs of the North Camp. You can also find a glass shard in a cave protected by robotic snails to the left of the southern camp.
Lead is the easiest to find. It’s everywhere. Look inside every camp structure to find crates containing it, or just shoot through the soldiers in green to get all 10.
The Steel Soldier
This is a tricky mission – you’ll want to bring a powerful gun to fight the Steel Soldier, and plenty of healing. Fill up on Rations (5) or First Aid (2) before trying to fight the boss-type enemy.
Check out the weapon recommendation to see a powerful gun that will make fairly short work out of this steel monster. Use the Dunali barrel and the Sturm Rifle reciever/magazine to create a devastating machine gun.
To find the boss, open the map. There should be four areas with large darkened Skull icons. The boss can be found at any one of these areas.
The Steel Soldier will spawn once you’ve entered the square. A shield will appear, and you can only shoot the boss while inside it – bullets will harmlessly bounce off the blue shield.
The Steel Soldier has two attacks. A chain-punch and a knife slash. The knife slash is fairly close-range. If you’re standing close, he’ll likely attempt to use it. If you’re standing further away, he’ll launch his fist forward.
If he uses his punch-attack, duck then jump and shoot while the cockpit is open. The chain itself won’t hurt you, only the fist.
The knife is easier to dodge. You’ll see him raise the blade. Back off, then shoot him while his cockpit is open.
If you can manage to get behind the boss, you can shoot the large glowing blue battery pack. If you’re stocked up on healing items, you can take a hit and roll through the boss, or try to roll behind it when he makes a jump.
As the boss starts flashing, it’s time to take him down. He’ll try to escape if you don’t destroy him quickly. If he escapes, he’ll reappear at a new random skull location.
With the Dunali-Sturm machine gun, you’ll destroy him before he gets away. With the boss dead, you can move on.
Snipers Spotted
Kill missions are slightly different than regular missions. Here, you’ll need to hunt down a specific enemy type. That type of enemy will not respawn, making the mission just slightly trickier.
Here, you’ll need to destroy 8 snipers. After the first cave splits to lead to the above-ground and underground areas, go up first. The first sniper is right above the ladder. The next is in a pit further right, under a bridge.
Now, go underground. Backtrack to a room with two snipers, then continue to the long vertical cave further right. There are 3 snipers here.
The last sniper is near the jungle grove where you first found Lawlass. Just continue right through the map, past the robotic snails, to find the sniper near falling water. Take care of those chumps, and you can move on to more missions.
The Biologist
A very simple mission, pretty much identical to Torture Cabin. Collect the C4 from red crates to blow through the first wall, then climb the vertical cave to get another C4 to exit.
Instead of climbing up to the cabin, you’ll need to jump down into some underground ruins. Before you use the ladder below the cabin, continue forward through the robotic-snail cave and grab another C4.
Now you can drop into the underground, fight the driller, and blow the wall to find the biologist. Before talking to him, smash the crate in the corner for a gold coin.
Treasure Hunter
This is one of the trickiest early missions. Here, you need to find 10 hidden gold coins scattered around the ruins map.
Gold Coin #1: After blowing the first wall, climb the vertical cave then drop off the ledge at the top to the left to find the first coin.
Gold Coin #2: On the platform above the sniper, destroy the crate before blowing the second wall.
Gold Coin #3: Just after blowing the second wall, roll through the tiny gap below and immediately press left to land
on tough-to-reach alcove. This is very tricky to reach, and it’s the toughest gold coin in the level.
Gold Coin #4+5: Below the previous coin is a ladder. Climb down with an extra C4 to destroy the wall below.
Gold Coin #6: Grab an extra C4 from the exterior second floor of the center hut, then continue right until you reach a ladder into the underground. Drop down and move right to find another door. Destroy it and grab the coin in the right corner.
Gold Coin #7+8: Follow the cave path left from the previous coin. Roll under the low ceilings to find two crates with gold coins inside.
Gold Coin #9: At the end of the ruins, to the right of the ladder into the underground cave, you’ll find an extra C4 and a gold coin.
Gold Coin #10: Climb the mountain to the doorway to enter the Holy Glade. The last coin is in a crate against the left wall.
Spelunker
Open the map and look at the area marked in a large square. The enemies here won’t respawn, so it’s just a simple matter of clearing the area of enemies. Nothing special or tough here, just load up and head out.
Camp Makeover
This mission puts you in the hunting grounds, an area you can explore at any time on the right side of the camp.
To win, you’ll need to find two pelts. Shoot the foxes in the area with a beefed-up gun to quickly kill them with one or two shots. They’ll run away if you get close or they see you coming, so move fast.
These creatures spawn basically all over the map, and they reappear pretty quickly. Just keep moving around, and shooting when you see animals. Eventually, you’ll get the materials.
The Snitch
Just like The Steel Soldier mission, you’ll need to find a boss. But, instead of killing him, you’ll need to capture him.
The strategy is exactly the same, except you’ll want to stop shooting once the boss flashes red. Early in the mission, you’ll be supplied with three Shock Grenades. Drop items from one slot in your backpack, and grab three of theses grenades.
Once the Steel Soldier flashes red, get close and throw a grenade directly at the soldier in the cockpit after dodging one of his attacks. If you can successfully hit him, you’ll win the mission.
It’s best to get very close before throwing the grenade. Because he’s invulnerable, you’ll have to make direct contact with his weak point to stun him. Otherwise, the grenade will bounce off. You can’t rely on splash damage to stun him.
Otherwise, it’s exactly the same. Open the map and search all four skull icons to find the boss at one of the random locations.
Completing this mission will unlock the next tier. You’ll have new missions, and lots of new gear to craft. Get to it, Kings.
Private Missions
Breakthrough
The first mission at this rank should look familiar. You’ll be returning to the POW Camp to destroy a barricade. No need to bring C4, this barricade can be brought down with old-fashioned bullets.
Move right through the southern camp, and use two ziplines to reach the door leading to the northern camp.
In the northern camp, it’s just a few jumps over the trucks to reach the barricade on the paved road.
Shoot the barricade until it’s destroyed. The mission is just the simple.
If you want to complete the secondary objective, check the camp area to the left of the door you used to reach the northern camp. There should be plenty of green guards – these walking soldiers are the only enemies that count as patrols.
Clear For Landing
Welcome to a new area! The Military Road has a few important features – a large sewer underground, and multiple interior buildings that are much larger than what the Kings have seen.
Once you’re in the city, the structures will be even bigger. Consider this a warm-up. The area is pretty large, with plenty of rooms to explore for extra optional material.
But, your goal is totally straightforward. Keep moving right to reach the marker on the right side of the road, on your map. Once you reach the helipad, the mission is over.
The trouble is getting there. You’ll have to deal with bionic soldiers that throw metal boomerangs. Jump over the boomerang as it flies toward you, then duck under it. The soldiers aren’t too deadly.
If you take the upper path, enter the large building and beware of flamethrower soldiers. Use the exit door on the right to continue on your way to the helipad.
The spikebots that circle the platforms can be shot and destroyed, so the platforming won’t be too bad.
The rest of the way should be fairly uneventful, if you can call shooting through a dozen or so soldiers uneventful.
Fashion District
You’ll now have free reign over the Military City, a huge area filled with tall buildings and sewers. None of the enemies here naturally drop fabric, so you’ll need to raid crates to gather 10.
Explore the large buildings. There are three, one on the left of the starting point, one to the right, and one in the corner. Check you map to see where to enter these large interiors.
Unlike other areas, these tall buildings have elevators. The elevator platform will move to your level automatically, but that’s it. Once you’re on the platform, press up or down to ride to the desired level.
Check the basements, and check every optional room. There’s way more than 10 pieces of fabric here. If you check out all three buildings and explore every room, including the roof, you’ll have ten in no time.
Viva La Resistance!
Returning to the military city, it’s time to find a hidden Resistance base! This mission can only be accessed once you’ve completed “The Biologist” from the Recruit missions.
The secret hideout is located in the lower-right corner of Military City South. Move right from the starting point, and continue past the central towers, through the motorpool, and to the cave entrance.
Climb the ladder, roll through the narrow gap, and climb down into sewers. Blast the crates, and jump down to the grate protected by two snail-bots. Drop down, and jump over the spikes until you find a passage blocked by a pallet. Shoot it down and you’ll be in the hideout.
Talk to the resistance lady (the one on the upper platform) to complete the mission. A cinch!
Eviction Notice
Back in the Military City, it’s time to clear out the scum. This simple mission tasks you with clearing the tall structure just to the left of the starting point.
Go inside, and don’t forget to clear the enemies in the basement. That includes the spiked roller-bot. Fight up, controlling the elevators with up and down while standing on the platform. Destroy the floating guard on the roof, and you’re done.
If there are still enemies left, clear out the three interior rooms too.
Revenge Raid
Like the previous kill mission, you’ll have to destroy a boss-type enemy. This time, it will be a Raid Rover. There are three locations in the Military City where this boss can hide, check out all three skull icon areas on your map.
The Raid Rover is slightly easier and tougher than the Steel Soldier. You can hit the Raid Rover all the time, you don’t need to wait for an opening. Either shoot the back, or shoot the driver by jumping to get your bullets over the strong shielding.
The Raid Rover will fire bullets, then a cannon shot from the front. Just duck to dodge. He will also lift off the ground and fire bullets down. As long as you aren’t in the arc below, you’ll be safe.
Otherwise, there’s no much to say. The weapon recommended for the previous missions will work just fine here. Unload on the Raid Rover until the contraption is destroyed. Don’t forget to bring a few rations.
Fatal Information
This short mission returns you to the Jungle Path. There’s a new area available, but nothing truly new to stop you. With your upgraded firepower, this should be a walk in the park.
Move right until you reach the second medical building. Climb down the ladders below the medical area, and weave by the spearmen. Shoot down the driller, and you’ll just have to roll through the narrow path to find the entrance into the biologist’s hideout.
Enter the mine door and speak with the doctor to learn about the gruesome sight. An easy mission, but it leads to better things.
Under Siege
This is a capture mission, so bring three shock bombs. The target is a man inside a kitchen, holed up in Central Tower B (or 2).
Enter the right-most door of the large central tower building, and enter the kitchen. You’ll find T-Bone shooting wildly with a pistol.
Heal up, and take damage to jump behind him. He won’t turn around. Now, equip a shock bomb and throw it. It’s guaranteed to hit the hero when you’re that close, and there’s no reason to risk mission failure by wasting all your shock bombs.
Once he’s captured, the mission ends. Now onto new things.
Bridge Failure
After rescuing T-Bone, you’ll gain two more missions. This one, and the next called “Jungle Hunt” which are surprisingly simple. Unlike the Treasure Hunt, these two won’t be a problem.
For this mission, you’ll need to collect 10 wood at the POW Camp. No problem, because Mandragora spawn here.
Enter the door to the North POW Camp, just left of the starting point. Bam! You’re surrounded by Mandragora. These nasty plants will randomly drop wood, so it’s time to farm.
Sweep across the screen, left or right to make the critters respawn. Keep shooting them and they’ll keep dropping wood. Once you’ve got ten, the mission is over.
Jungle Hunt
Back in the jungle hunting ground, you’ll notice something new. If you completed the previous mission, the bridge will be fixed! Now you can hunt even more, larger, animals!
If you’ve hunted animals before, you should know the drill. Shoot them before they run away and disappear. The machine-gun described in the weapon recommendation section at the top of the previous string of missions will do the job.
Kill 12 animals, and you’re done. Yep, moving on.
Battle City
Finish this mission, and you’ll be promoted. Load up your backpack with three shock bombs before leaving, this is a capture mission!
Open your map, and check out all three skull locations. The Raid Rover will randomly spawn at one of these locations.
Shoot the rover until it flashes red. Equip a grenade, then run right up to it before throwing the grenade. It’s worth taking damage if you can avoid whiffing with your precious shock bombs.
It doesn’t matter where the shock bomb lands. As long as the rover is flashing red, you don’t need to hit a weak point. If the shock hits the rover, it counts. Capture the thing, and you’ll get another promotion.
A promotion means more guns, more knives, and more missions! Exciting, right? Take a deep breath, and continue forward. You’re getting closer to taking down the Baron now.
Corporal Missions
Hot Diversion
Time to destroy some fuel. Bring a C4 charge with you on the mission before heading out. You should be familiar with the terrain, you’ll be returning to the Military City.
With the C4 in hand, travel right and use the first door to enter Second Street, or the northern section of the city. Keep moving right, past the medical buildings, to reach the tall structure against the right corner of the area map.
Inside the base, use the elevators to enter the basement, guarded by robots. Plant the C4 near the fuel tank and set it off – stay back, it’ll continue to explode! Once it finally goes up, you’re home free.
Elevator Addiction
Next, you’ll travel to Skyscraper A17 for a gathering mission. This one is shorter than usual at only 10 minutes, but that should give you some time to explore. You’ll want to get this area down.
There’s only one item you need – a research report. Before starting, purchase a C4 charge. You’ll need it once you’re in the skyscraper.
From the start, use the zipline to reach the rooftop. You’ll have to start from the top and move down. The office is near the top of the skyscraper, but it’s on the wrong side. You’ll need to wind down to the bottom of section 4 to find a wall.
Set the C4 and blow the wall open to cross over into the right-section of the tower. From here, it’s just a few floors up. Use the elevators to reach the lab.
Check the map for an exact location. Once you’re in the lab, smash the yellow crate and grab the papers. Mission complete.
Crystal Prison
Grab another C4 for this one. There are 8 hostages that need to be rescued in the top floors of the tower.
The first hostage is in the elevator shaft against the left wall of the tower. It’s the first one you see, and can only be accessed from the bottom. Wait for the platform to lower, then ride it up to free him.
The next two hostages are lower, in section 4. Take out the flamethrower soldier protecting the interior room, enter through the open door, then smash the crate to find the hostage inside.
The third hostage is outside, right next to the destructable wall. Keep going down to the floor with two spider-bots. Below this floor, you’ll find the fourth hostage against the left wall, protected by a soldier behind cover.
To find the last four hostages, you’ll need to destroy the wall in section 4. Climb back up and smash the barrier with C4.
Entering the right side of the tower, you’ll see a large room below you with spike-bots crawling on the walls. Just below this room is a door into an interior room. There’s a hostage outside the door. Inside the room, you can grab another C4 charge, too.
Back up to level 4, ride an elevator up to the interior room protected by an autoturret. A young lady is inside, in need of rescue.
Two more to go. The seventh hostage is in the right corner of the tower, you should spot him after riding the elevator up from the previous room. He’s protected by an autoturret. Rescue the guy, and continue upward toward the lab.
The last hostage is in – surprise! – the lab. He’s the second of the six Kickstarter hostages, so you can talk to him back at base. Fancy, right? That completes this rescue mission.
Engineer of War
You’ll be returning to the Military Road to meet a defecting engineer. There’s also a unique blueprint to discover as a bonus. Luckily, unlike that hostage mission, you’ll see exactly where to find the engineer on your map.
The engineer is hiding in the underground, between the large buildings down the road. Might as well start by going underground yourself.
Travel to the two huts protected by snipers to find the earliest sewer entrance. Travel down to the caves below, and move right until you hit the infirmary door underground. Take the right ladder to find the engineer above two flamethrower soldiers. Talk to him to complete the job.
Early Prototype
Yet another rescue in the skyscraper. Grab another C4, and prepare to infiltrate the base once again.
The Engineer’s office is actually slightly easier to get to than the lab. Travel down to level 4 and destroy the wall with C4. The door to the target’s office is just ahead. Run right to ride the elevator to the interior entrance.
While you’re on this mission, it’s a good time to farm for goodies. Travel down to level 3 on the left side of the tower to find crates with rusty bolts. Those will come in handy when building the computer mod.
Inside the office, shoot the crate to grab a rare Blade Igniter, then check out the corpose. Uh oh, looks like your defector didn’t make it.
Flame On!
A new type of Steel Soldier has appeared in the Military City. To make things a little easier, try equipping the Computer mod. It will always show you where to find bosses on the map.
Equip 3 Shock Bombs before moving out. With the Computer mod equipped, the location of the boss will be highlighted by an orange skull icon.
The upgrade Steel Soldier follows the same pattern. You’ll need a little more firepower to take him down, but the principle is the same. Shoot the back, or wait for an attack and shoot the cockpit.
Wait for the boss to begin flashing red, then get in his face – as close as you can – and throw a shock bomb. Don’t risk waisting those shock bombs. If you miss with all three, the mission will be a failure.
X-File
Back on the military road, you’ll need to find some secret documents. You can also rescue 4 hostages, which is always a nice things to do.
The first hostage is in the large central building with the small platforms. They’re located in the interior room.
The second hostage is found in the four-story building, to the left of the mission marker. This bearded man just so happens to be the third of the six Kickstarter hostages.
To get to the suitcase, reach the building with the second hostage and exit out to the roof. Jump to the building to your right, then break open the crate on the next platform. The objective is inside.
But, there are two more hostages to rescue! The third hostage is in the interior down three levels from the objective. The room contains a cage with another resistance member stuck inside.
The final hostage is located near the street sewer entrance near the center of the map. Climb down and move left to spot an alcove with a flamethrower soldier. The hostage is behind the goon.
Baron’s War Room
Time to take out the Baron’s War Room, located in the Military City. Open your map to find it’s location in the north city, inside the small eastern building.
The door to Second Street isn’t too far from the starting point. Move right to reach the open gate, and then it’s just a short walk left to get into the building.
But, there’s a catch. The target is protected by an all new boss – the Blitzhound K9. It will always spawn near the objective, so there’s no need to track it down.
You don’t even need to defeat the K9, just smash the target to complete the mission. Bullets are enough to take the device out. It’ll take a lot of damage, but it will go down.
The K9 will fire large missiles that fly forward. Duck under the missiles, or back off if they’re about to hit the ground. It will also fire a series of missiles that strike in the ground like artillery. Time your roll to get around the blasts, or just run away.
Like the Steel Soldier, it has two weak points. Shoot the red glowing eyes, or shoot the robot’s back. When the bot flashes rainbow colors, it’s time to run! It will charge back and forth, and it’s totally invincible.
This is one tough boss. It’ll take a lot of damage, and it can kill you quickly. Be prepared to heal and remember you can always leave the combat zone. The boss can’t hurt you while you’re outside the shields.
No Negotiation
This is a big mission. There are 8 enemies you’ll need to kill. As an optional mission, you can also rescue 12 hostages.
The hostages, and the abductors, are all located in two specific buildings. Check every room, every floor, and the roofs of the southwestern building. Do the same for the northeastern building.
The 12 hostages also include the ones held by abductors. When you encounter a black-clad abductor, be very careful not to shoot the hostage. When the abductors shoot, you’ll be able to safely shoot them without killing the hostages.
Automated Arsenal
A simple mission. There is no simple way to find all the automated turrets. You’ll just need to clear every main path of the military city. Move through the streets, the sewers, and the interiors. Even the rooftops hide turrets.
None are well hidden, it’s just a matter of sweeping the map to get every turret.
Electric Duo
Grab 3 Shock Bombs and prepare to fight an Electric Steel Soldier. Like the previous Steel Soldier fight, he’ll be similar but with elemental powers, making him more difficult.
Fill up with 5 rations or 2 kits before leaving for the mission. The Steel Soldiers behave just like the others, but they will do more damage.
Install the Computer mod with Bluebell to find the location of the boss. There are four possible locations, and two possible Steel Soldiers that will spawn.
There are two Steel Soldiers, and you’ll need to capture both of them. Like the previous Steel Soldiers, be very careful with your three Shock Bombs.
Only throw the bombs when you’re directly in front of their weak spots. The bombs will only work if they hit a weak spot. To be safe, roll through the boss, take the damage, and throw the bomb at their battery pack.
Another mission over, another promotion. The Mercenary King’s next destination is the dam.
Sergeant Missions
My Gun Customization:
Receiver: Spec Ops Rifle
Barrel: Black Thorne
Magazine: Steel Assault
Sight: Karabiner
Stock: Spec Ops Rifle
Ammunition: Soft-Point
This simple assault rifle fires in 3-shot bursts, but packs 100% accuracy and serious firepower. It might only have a 12 shot magazine, but it reloads fast. A great gun for taking down the tough opponents in the Dam from medium range.
Lawless: M.I.A.
Your helpful gun-crafter, Miss Lawless, has disappeared! If you want her back, you’ll need to complete this mission.
Lawless is being held in the East Tower on Second Street (the northern section of the map) which is helpfully marked on your map.
The area should be pretty familiar at this point. It’s just a straightforward trip to the first gate doorway, then run right until you hit a wall. Climb into the tower, and drop down the elevator shaft to the left to find the door you need.
With this mission complete, Lawless will return to the base. Now you can start crafting with fancy new parts.
Dam Intruder
Welcome to Battery Path. You’ll notice the CLAW troops have been upgraded. The basic patrol guards and snipers are tougher than before, and you’ll have to deal with bomb-dropping drones.
There are two paths through the Dam. You can take the underground path through the Dam itself, or climb up and use the Maintenance Room to get over the top of the Dam.
The Dam is a series of dangerous passages and tricky platforming. Watch out for hopping bots, and berserker men in shields. Wait for them to turn around and shoot their backs to bring those guys down.
Check your map often to see where to go if you’re ever lost. This is a whole new tier, and the missions are only going to get tougher from here.
The Fireflyers
This mission tasks you with finding 8 Galena, destroying HEAT Missiles, and taking out a special Raid Rover, all in the Bastion Dam.
Equip the Computer Mod to find the Raid Rover for an easy bonus reward. These mini-tanks aren’t too tough, especially with a souped-up gun.
Check the new map, you’ll find four HEAT Missile locations marked in orange. One is on the north area, just outside the tower to the left. The second missile is on a platform above the central entrance into the Dam below.
The last two surround the boss icon in the large open area, in the northeastern section of the map.
To defeat the Raid Rover, don’t forget that you can easily step outside the shield to reload or escape an attack. There’s no penalty.
There’s one new tricky hazard in the map – the hanging pallets. These platforms will dip down when you stand still on them.
To put them back at their default height, keep jumping. It takes some practice, but try to stand at about the center so you’ll have enough room to make a running jump once the platform has raised up.
Finding the Galena can be tricky. No enemies drop it, so you’ll need to find all 8 pieces in crates. These crates are found in the interiors, and in corners. Check the corners of the shallow water in the northern section of the dam.
In the southern area, look in the corner to the right and below the HEAT missile platform near the hanging pallets.
Now, explore the Dam itself to find the remaining material.
Galena #1: One can be found on the platform above the door in the left corner of Area B, or the southern section of the map. Climb the pallets and climb the ladder to reach the platform with the crate.
Galena #2: In the West Wing of the Dam, look on a platform at the top of a vertical shaft full of platforms, at the left-most point of the dam.
Galena #3: Move right from the previous item, and continue on the map to an area past the vertical shafts with three ladders. Before reaching another vertical area leading up, you’ll find a rolling armored guard. Below him, drop down to find a crate against the left wall.
Galena #4: Climb up the vertical chambers to the right, and then cross the electrified wiring left to reach a door into an interior room. The crate with the item is against the left wall.
Galena #5: To the right of the previous item, there’s a drop into a long narrow tunnel full of electrified wires. Make sure you’re healthy, and drop onto the wire, then roll through the shaft. If you’re quick, you should only take two hits. Down the path, you’ll find two crates, one with the item, and another with a Med Kit.
Galena #6: Travel to the Dam’s East Wing, and reach the lower areas covered in pipes, platforms, and protected by electricity-wielding maniacs. There’s a crate on the right-most platform in the series.
Galena #7: Below the right-most HEAT missile in the southern section of the map, you’ll find a crate below several patrolling guards, and a spiked-shield berserker.
Galena #8: The last Galena material can be found in the northern area of the Dam. Search in the left corner of the shallow water, below the left-most boss icon in the northern area.
The Blueprint Scheme
After that monster hunt, it’s time for a simpler gather mission. You’re only after one item this time, and you can go nuts and clear an area of enemies, if you’re into that sort of things.
The objective is an inner room of the Dam’s East Wing. Clearing the entire East Wing might be a pretty tall order, so bring plenty of Rations, and consider installing the Chef Mod for a little extra health per heal.
Most of the enemies you’ll need to kill here are the rolling spike-bots. The very last patrolling guard is in the room with the objective. Just check your map to find the location.
Explosive Expedition
Another relatively simple mission with a large reward. The Bastion Dam is a tough place, but even the forces of CLAW can’t stop the Mercenary Kings. Purchase C4 before leaving the base.
The goal here is simple. Breach the Dam and get into the large storage room in the West Wing. Move right from the starting point to reach a Dam entrance, travel down, then use the left door.
From there, take the ladders down and move left until you reach the interior door. Bam, there’s the objective.
Set a C4 charge anywhere on the large pile of stored objects in the background, and set it off to complete the mission.
Bionic Commando
Another sabotage mission? Grab C4 and a big gun. Here, you can go straight for the objective, or take out patrols and a roaming K9 boss.
Dealing with patrols is easy. Find a few in the southern section, near the right tower and sweep across the screen so the enemies respawn often.
The K9 is protecting the objective in the Server Room. Travel right across the Dam and enter the interior from the ladder. Inside, enter the West Wing and continue to the room, past the grenade guards and electricity psychos.
The generator itself can be destroyed with bullets, but if you want to avoid fighting the K9, set the C4 and blow it up to quickly bring down the tough generator’s health. Once the generator is finished off, it’s mission complete.
Soldier of Fire
Taking a break from the Dam, it’s time to return to Battery Path for a kill mission. The target this time is another Incendiary Steel Soldier. Yawn, been there, done that! But, he’s joined by a Blitzhound K9. Now things are getting interesting.
Unless you bring C4, you’ll have to take the upper path through the Maintenance area. It will lead to the K9 and a barrier. The barrier can be destroyed with bullets, and you can escape the fight, but if you want some extra rewards, go ahead and take the K9 out.
The Steel Soldier is ahead, and uses all the same tricks you know. Dodge the sword, duck under the fist, and shoot the cockpit while it’s open. Use a powerful gun, like the one I created for this series of missions, and you can easy take off 1,000 HP with each three shot burst.
Shake and Bake
This mission puts you back in the Military City, but with stiffer CLAW competition to deal with. This mission should be a breeze.
Avoid the sewers, just sweep through Main Street and Second Street to find as many Incendiary Patrol as you need to complete the job. The Guards are patrols behind cover – you’ll find enough of them, too.
Both enemy types will respawn, even though this is a kill mission. Usually targets don’t respawn, but here, they do. You can farm the full amount just by sweeping left and right across the central towers.
Resistance Wanted!
Yet another capture mission. This time, for an Incendiary Raid Rover in the Military City.
Not much to say about this one. Do the requisites; grab 3 Shock Bombs from the store, equip a Computer Mod to find the location instantly, and throw the bomb right in the machine’s face at pointe blank range.
Completing this mission does lead to another in the Military City, though.
Sewer Sharks!
Protect the resistance HQ from CLAW soldiers! It’s simple, just clear the sewers. But, there is that extra objective. Somewhere resides a radio, ripe for destruction.
There is one catch to this deceptively simple mission. A Raid Rover protects the radio, and it’s one of the enemies you must destroy to complete the mission. It is just a regular, standard Raid Rover. It shouldn’t be much trouble.
The radio is just right of the boss arena. Bullets will take care of it nicely.
Resistance: Doomed?
The final mission pits you against an all-new type of boss in the Military City. Install a Computer mod to find the Titan Trooper’s location in the city instantly.
Bring plenty of healing items. If you’re willing to use the backpack space, you can bring rations and first aid kits. But one or the other should do.
The Titan Trooper is a tough boss-type, but he only has one move. The walker moves back and forth, firing giant bullets at a 45 degree angle. He has no weak points from the front, you have to get behind him.
The trick to beating the Titan Trooper is actually very simple. Get as close as you can to him, and the bullet attack will fly right over your head. Wait for the trooper to jump, then roll behind him. While behind the trooper, shoot the battery on its back.
The Trooper might turn around, but he might not. Just keep shooting that battery, and the trooper is destroyed. Don’t forget to grab the valuable material he drops.
Enjoy your new promotion, King.
Lieutenant Missions
My Gun Customization:
Receiver: Spartan
Barrel: Black Thorne
Magazine: Tommy Gun
Sight: M40 Rifle
Stock: Spec Ops Rifle
Ammunition: Soft-Point
This heavy machine-gun hits hard, with a staggering power of 2364. Nuts, right? The downside is the incredibly long reload time, but the Tommy Gun magazine helps alleviate that problem with a hefty 50 bullets.
Battery Camp
Welcome back to the POW Camp. The enemies here are the same, the only difference you’ll find is in the Generator Room – the large white and red building to the right. Check your map to find the room.
There no reason not to take out the K9. The Generator is located in a very inconvenient position. The only way to shoot it is by jumping and aiming down, or using C4.
Destroy the generator and it’s mission complete. Regular bullets will work. Try constructing the gun above if you’re having trouble destroying the boss.
Underneath the Green
Time to find out what the generator was for. Back in the Jungle Path, you’ll need to travel to the helicopter crash-site and jump down into the water-fall hole below a sniper.
Shoot through the crate, and you’ll land in the underground cavern protected by a Titan Trooper.
Resistance Rescue!
Time to rescue a hostage. Your time-limit is very tight, so get moving. The hostage is located underground, just below the second infirmary.
To speed up, try rolling when on flat open ground, and don’t bother destroying every enemy. Picking up items will slow you down, so leave them behind.
Take the upper path. When you reach the ladder down into the medical room, drop down, then drop down again. Carefully climb down the ladder into the hostage room, then jump between the Pikeman and the hostage.
The hostage can be killed here. Just to be safe, shoot the Pikeman, then use the knife to free the hostage.
Mineshaft
Time to hunt down diamonds.
Diamond #1: Get the first diamond after destroying the first wall with C4. Climb to the top of the vertical shaft, and drop down the ledge on the left to reach a previously unreachable section with the diamond.
Diamond #2: After destroying the second wall with C4, go back to retrieve another charge. Right behind the destroyed wall, drop down to find a ladder leading into a cave. Move left and destroy the next wall with C4. Behind it you’ll find a shiny gold coin and a diamond.
Diamond #3: Enter the cave guarded by a mandragora turret to the right of the camp. Roll into the ruins to find a crate with a Diamond, and an extra charge of C4. Grab both!
Diamond #4: Back at the cave entrance, take the ladder down into the underground and place C4 on the wall to the right. Destroy it to find another hidden diamond. Only one more to go, and there’s only one place left to look.
Diamond #5: Climb the mountain to enter the Holy Glade. Against the left wall, behind all the critters, you’ll get the last diamond. Mission accomplished.
Electrical Shutdown
Returning to Battery Path, you’ll need to equip some Shock Bombs to complete this job. Both the Transciever and the Steel Soldier are at the helipad in the far right corner of the map. If you want to complete the extra objective, bring C4.
You’ll have to get around the Steel Soldier to reach the transciever, located on the helipad itself. Destroy it first, then work on capturing the boss.
The helipad ladder is blocked by a wall. Set C4 to destroy it, then you can finish this mission off.
Harvest of the Titan
Yet another capture mission. Load up on Shock Bombs! Like other bosses, he’ll randomly appear at different locations around the map.
Because the Trooper has so much health, it’s wise to bring the Computer Mod to find its location. It will likely retreat during your fight.
Like the last Titan Trooper, there’s a simple pattern to fight them. But, watch out – touching the Titan can easily take off half your health bar in one hit.
Stand near the Titan and wait underneath it’s cannon as it shoots. It will jump after shooting, giving you time to roll underneath it and shoot the weak point on the back.
Once the Titan flashes red, hit the weak point with a Shock Bomb. It’s a lot trickier than it sounds, but if you’re patient, this mission isn’t too bad.
The Guard Dog
Back at Bastion Dam, a new boss is on the prowl. Bring fresh health items and a powerful gun to deal with the Munsterlander. The main goal is just destroying a barrier, so you can skip the boss if you’re feeling peaceful.
The barrier, and the boss, is located in the far right side of the East Wing. Check your map. Once you’re there, you’ll find the Baron’s evil little dog.
This dog has his own mech, and it’s tough. Be wary, while fighting the boss, it’s very easy to accidentally destroy the barrier and end the fight prematurely. Watch where you’re shooting if you plan on finishing the extra objective!
The boss has four main attacks. Stay near the platform in the center to stay alive. While standing on the ground, the boss will fire a massive sustained beam. Don’t let it hit you – one blast can easily kill the Kings.
When it flies up to platform level, it will fire several horizontal plasma blasts. These are slower, and easier to dodge. Just drop down.
The boss will also leave behind a trail of bombs will moving. The explosions rise vertically, so if you stand between the bombs, you’ll be fine.
Last, the boss will stand directly underneath the platform and try to blast you. As long as you’re not standing on that platform you’ll be safe.
Keep moving, and stay on the platform to avoid it’s deadly horizontal sustained beam. Only get off the platform when the boss uses attacks to drive you off.
The boss has no weak points. Just keep shooting, you’ll do damage no matter where your hits land.
It’s a tough nut to crack. If you’re having trouble, simply aim for the barrier. Bullets will destroy it, too.
Once the mission is complete, you’ll open the way to the next zone, and earn another promotion.
Captain Missions
My Gun Customization:
Receiver: Clint 500
Barrel: Clint 500
Magazine: N/A
Sight: Python
Stock: Python
Ammunition: Caustic Magnum
With only 6 shots per magazine, each bullet dishes out 1125 damage. The reload is quick, but there is some kickback to each shot. A very deadly pistol that can take down every difficult enemy type in Powerhouse Alpha.
Tribute Cave
Time to hunt down 5 regular bolts. These are handy crafting materials, so this is a good mission to finish if you’re looking to upgrade.
Regular Bolt #1: The first bolt is found on a shipping container to the left of the door to Area B, just left of the starting point. You’ll need to climb on top of the platform above the door and jump down to reach the crate.
Regular Bolt #2: Enter the East Wing of the Dam and return to the room where you destroyed the barrier in the previous series of missions. In the far right corner, there are two crates. One has the item.
Regular Bolt #3: The third bolt is found down a long shaft found left of the sewer corridor filled with electrified psychos. Climb up the left side and take out the grenadier to find the ledge that drops down onto the bolt.
Regular Bolt #4: At the center of the sewer path mentioned in the previous location, get to the ladder and climb down. Fight through the berserkers and enter the room below the long ladder up to find a crate with one more bolt.
Regular Bolt #5: Enter the interior room to the right of the path after climbing back up to find one last crate with a bolt.
There are more bolts scattered around the stage, so these aren’t the only locations.
In Da House!
After that item hunt, it’s time for a simple kill mission. Grab a gun and prepare for a return to Battery Path. Once you’re in the mission, open the map. The Colonel wants the entire underground area cleared of enemies.
The only new threats here are upgraded turrets, and mandragora turrets. These manned guns have shields that only raise while you’re standing in their line of fire. Duck under the bullets, then stand to destroy them.
Don’t forget to look in the interior stairwell for more robots to clear out.
Rush’n Retrieve!
Back in Battery Path, you’ll need to meet a new contact. They’re located on a platform above the helipad, which can only be reached from the upper path. Skip going underground, you’ll be climb this mission.
Five minutes is a surprisingly tough time limit.
The Thinktank
Welcome to Powerhouse Alpha. There are 6 hostages you need to save, so let’s not waste any time. Before leaving, bring a C4 charge.
There’s only one entrance into Powerhouse Alpha. Use the door near the starting point, and continue through the winding halls.
The first destructable wall needs to be ignored. You’ll see how it drops off to the right. Just keep going. It isn’t until you encounter a door further right that you’ll need to destroy it.
All six hostages are located in the complex in the lower-right side of the map.
Hostage #1: Down the ladders against the right wall, move left to find an infirmary. Enter the room on the left to free the first hostage, and grab a C4 charge.
Hostage #2: Continue down to the lower levels to find another door protecting a long horizontal hallway. Destroy it, and weave past the electrified psychos. At the end of the path, near a door, is the second scientist.
Hostage #3: Move right to the next room down the hall. Inside, you’ll find another hostage.
Hostage #4: The last room down the hallway has yet another hostage.
Hostage #5: Leave the horizontal hallway and climb the ladder with the electricity hazards. Down the hallway, deal
with the grenadiers to find another hostage. This is yet another Kickstarter Hostage!
Hostage #6: The final hostage is in the room to the right of the previous captive. Find him, and it’s mission complete.
Extraction Prime
This is it! It’s time to finally rescue Dr. Neil. He’s located deep inside Powerhouse Alpha, and you’ve only got 5 minutes to rescue him.
Even with the time limit, this is easier than the previous mission. Don’t forget to bring C4 for the wall down into the offices.
Neil is located in the long hallway with three rooms, down in the lower-right corner of the map. Get to him in time, and the story can continue. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good for the Doctor.
Doomsday Documents
Back to Powerhouse Alpha to get a special blueprint. Grab C4 and move out.
Again, you’re on a tight time-limit. Don’t waste time picking up items, and use the recommended weapon to quickly cut through every tough enemy.
Destroy the wall to the office complex, but don’t bother going past the infirmary for another C4 charge. There’s no more walls in your way. Drop down and continue into the large hanger further to the right.
Operation Lights Out
What’s a Mega Looper? You’re about to find out, because this mission has two turbines that must be destroyed.
The Mega Loopers are special bosses that resemble the spiked bots you’ll have to deal with on the platforms in the West Wing of the Dam. You know, the little guys that circle each landing?
The Mega Loopers are similar, just gigantic and loaded with help. Equip whatever gun you want, but make sure it’s got plenty of firepower. I was able to handle the Loopers with the beefed-up revolver described up to, but it still took 25-35 shots to take the thing down.
You have 30 minutes. Use that time wisely. The Looper can only hit you by ramming your King as it spins around the room.
Down the vertical shafts in the West Wing, you’ll need to roll into the room with the first Mega Looper. If you want to play it safe, shoot the Mega Looper through the narrow hole as it passes by.
It’s a slow method, but effective. If you enter the room with it, there’s only one way to avoid taking damage. Climb up to the ladder then drop into the hole between platforms to escape the Mega Looper’s trajectory.
The same tactics work on the second Mega Looper. Lucky for the Kings, their rooms are almost identical.
Finish off both Mega Loopers, and you’ll be one step closer to bringing down the Baron.
The Kerosene Crush
Back in the Powerhouse, things are getting a little tricky. A Steel Soldier and 4 hostages come with the two fuel tanks that need to be destroyed.
Get to the hangar, and equip C4 before going on the mission. You’ll need it to destroy the wall to enter the office complex to the lower-right of the base.
There are two hostages in the long hallway (also blocked by a wall) in the lower hallway of the office area. Use C4 (acquired from the room to the left of the infirmary nearby) and climb up to check out the interior rooms.
The far right room down this hall has the 5th Kickstarter Hostage! Save him, even if you don’t plan on completing the extra mission.
After dealing with the boss, enter the room against the right wall of the map and cut the hostages free with your knife. Don’t forget to use C4 to destroy the fuel tanks here, too.
The War Convoy
Bastion Dam is a big place, but the two Titans you need to destroy will only randomly spawn outside – never in the two Wings.
Install the Computer mod to find their location, and get going. Fighting the Titan Troopers should be a breeze at this point.
If you’re looking to complete the secondary objective, the yellow Patrol guards commonly drop quality lead. They can be farmed by sweeping across their spawn-points. With 30 minutes, there’s time to spare!
Unit Zero
As a little preview to the primary mission, you can fight a prototype Doomsday Harrier in the hangar of Powerhouse Alpha. You know the place, bring a C4 charge and get down into the labs in the lower-right corner of the map.
The Doomsday Prototype isn’t active yet, but the Munsterlander is! Stand on the platform, and unload your weapons into the prototype. It’s actually quite easy to destroy the prototype while fighting the Munsterlander, so watch your shots if you plan on defeating the boss first.
Enough with the prototypes, it’s time to face off against the Baron proper.
The Baron Battle
Although this is a unique boss, you’ll still have to search multiple randomized locations to find the Doomsday Harrier. Bring the Computer Mod to find him instantly, it’s well worth it!
This is the toughest battle of the game – and for good reason, it’s the final battle in the early access version of Mercenary Kings!
To help, fill your backpack with healing items. Equip the Chef mod if you’re bringing Rations.
The Baron will appear by firing a massive beam into the center of the screen. Whenever the Baron flies off, he’ll always return by blasting the center of the arena with an energy beam, or blasting the left or right when he appears from the sides.
When the Harrier fires with both machine-guns, run to the center to avoid the shots. When it fires with only one gun, the bullets are trickier to dodge. Roll to use your slight invincibility frames to get through the bullets.
If the Baron flies off-screen, you can also expect him to drop massive bombs. Shoot the bombs before they land, or they’ll make massive explosions. They’ll harmlessly break apart when destroyed. Keep your distance if they’re about to hit the floor.
Once the Baron has been damaged enough, he’ll fly to the ground and jump out with a grenade launcher, shooting grenades all over the screen. Once again, this is a tricky attack to dodge, and he’ll attempt to land on your head. The lower his health, the faster the Harrier will move.
Don’t forget, you can use the transmitter to call for an extra first aid kit.
This is a grueling battle, and it’s likely the Baron will retreat. Check your map to see if the skull icon has lit up in a different location.
The pistol worked very well for me, but any weapons that use Homing could be very handy to dish out constant damage without having to worry about aiming.
Destroy the Doomsday Harrier, and bask in victory! CLAW is defeated! … or is it? Check back with the full game release to see the rest.
