How to become the mayor of a Hotspot in Watch Dogs

Much like the mobile app ‘Foursquare’, Watch Dogs allows you to check into various locations across Chicago. Also known as City Hotspots these areas allow you to access history and information about the associated landmarks, leave behind gifts for other players, earn badges and most importantly become the mayor of a specific area.

Checking into Hotspots
Markers for these hot spots will become available to those who access the corresponding ctOS control centers and towers. If these markers are not visible, check our walkthrough guide to unlocking all ctOS towers in Watch Dogs.

Check mark styled icons, which appear filled in, indicate a location that you have previously visited, and you are able to plot a GPS course to guide you towards any one of them. As you approach these locations, a square plaque will become visible, your smartphone app will launch which allows you to check in.

Becoming the mayor
Simply choose a location of which you’d like to become mayor and visit this more times than anyone else over the course of a seven-day period. Sounds easy enough doesn’t it, but perhaps not when you consider all of the other potential Watch Dogs rivals who may also be striving for the Mayor position at this exact location. You also cannot just simply check in, exit and immediately repeat, as there is a small delay for doing so.

What are the advantages to becoming the mayor of a location? Well besides the obvious bragging rights you’ll gain there are also badges to win for both checking into these landmarks and also for gaining mayorships.
