Whether you’re a next-gen fan, favouring the Xbox One and PS4, or a handheld fanatic choosing between the 3DS and PS Vita, there is something for every gaming fan at the show in Germany’s Koln. Having already taken a peek at the new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer trailer, this year’s lineup is expected to be fantastic, particularly given the roster of games shown at E3 a couple of months ago. Coverage of the various presentations from Sony, Xbox and EA amongst others will be shared across the world in a matter of days. But your time is precious, isn’t it? So you’ll need to prioritise and what could help you with that better than out Gamescom 2014 Top 10 Games list? Thought so.
Assassin’s Creed Rogue
Following the rumours that spread about Ubisoft’s ‘secret’ Assassin’s Creed project with the codename Comet, the games developers finally officially revealed their current-gen AC game set to be released this year. Assassin’s Creed Rogue is music to the ears of all PS3 and Xbox 360 owning fans of the series, they don’t have to miss out on AC action this year and neither does Gamescom.
Assassin’s Creed Unity
The AC Unity unveiling left gamers very excited for the game’s release later this year, showing off the 4-player co-op possibility as well as the next-gen high quality of gameplay. The Assassin’s are back for another round at defending justice, but according to one trailer that doesn’t mean they’ll be against the Templars.
Destiny
Destiny’s beta trial ended weeks ago, but we’re still mourning its absence from our lives. Luckily there is less than a month to wait until its official release in September and we can expect more previews of the record-breaking game at the Gamescom hall this week. Although we’ve seen, and played, some of the game already, the Destiny universe is full of mysteries unsolved.
Dragon Age Inquisition
Bioware is raising the bar with the third part of their Dragon Age series, allowing players to execute more control over the development of the story. But that benefit does not come at the price of any other elements of the game, Dragon Age Inquisition is expected to be the best game of the series. Featuring a bigger and more beautiful world, you will have to venture forth as the Inquisition leader and fight your way through freer, yet more tactical conflicts. Although the EA game’s release date has been pushed back, you can expect to hear about the progress being made behind the scenes, at Gamescom.
Far Cry 4
The gorgeous, yet crazy Far Cry 4 trailer that introduced fans to the next installment in the Far Cry series had everyone’s attention. If you weren’t captivated by the stunning scenery of mountainous locations, then the somewhat insane protagonist must have been distracting you. Between the appearing story, imagery and novelty features like weaponised elephants, there is a lot to get excited about in waiting for Far Cry 4 and Gamescom is about to treat us to more.
FIFA 15
Football crazed fans will be itching to play FIFA 15 already, but patience is a virtue and they’ll have fresh information and possible trailers to tide them over for now. Rumoured to feature AI that is tactically aware in action, FIFA 15 is expected to be the best of the series. Of course with technological advancements games such as this are bound to improve, but the developers have also taken players’ wishes into account. In-game players and environments are already said to be more reactive to the action, but there is a lot more to come from the next FIFA video game and Gamescom could be the place to see it.
Hyrule Warriors
Nintendo are releasing strong titles for their games console this autumn, including Hyrule Warriors. The game, which incorporates previous Legend of Zelda installments with a new forward-looking approach, allows gamers to select their choice of character from a range including heroes and villans. With gameplay footage having already been shown, attendees at this year’s Gamescom may even be able to get their hands on the game to try out before release. Don’t feel dispondent, even from afar the presentation could dazzle awaiting fans.
Battlefield Hardline
For those who were lucky enough to sample the Battlefield Hardline beta, the upcoming Gamescom is an opportunity to sit back and say I told you so. The week is expected to feature more news and footage of the soon-to-release cops and robbers game, showing off the electric adrenaline fuelled experience that can be had in Battlefield Hardline. From intense chases to intense shoot outs and everything in between, Battlefield Hardline will explode onto games consoles soon, but there will be a bit more to drool over in the mean time.
Super Smash Bros. 4
Mario and the gang are making a come back this winter on both Wii U and 3DS, but don’t expect everything to look like the previous games in the series. With a gang of new playable characters joining the Super Smash Bros. roster, including a customizable Mii version of yourself, your top characters list could be totally rearranged. The new weapons will diversify the game even further, which is something we can expect to witness during the Nintendo’s time in Germany.
Tom Clancy’s The Division
After the haunting trailer released by Ubisoft at this year’s E3, fans have come to form great expectations for the post-pandemic world that contains Tom Clancy’s The Division. Featuring fire-wielding enemies and factions of various natures, there is plenty to be cautious of in Tom Clancy’s The Division, but simultaneously much to keep you busy too. Impressive multiplayer features have already been revealed to the public, so you can expect something even greater to appear at Gamescom this week.
