You want to test the latest patch coming to Pillars of Eternity? Well, you’ll likely want to get in on the new beta program Obsidian has for Pillars of Eternity on Steam. If all goes well it could also go live for GOG.com, too. If you want to opt-in, it’s pretty easy and the steps on how to do so are simple to follow.
So over on the Obsidian forums there’s a post about the new patch beta testing method they’re employing that allows Steam users to opt-in and beta test patches before they go live to the rest of the public.
Apart from mentioning that it’s only going to be available on Steam for now, the post also mentions…
“These patches may be unstable. We will be doing work on the patches and they haven’t gone through a full QA cycle so unexpected things can happen. To be safe, I would avoid using any saved games that you do not want to get corrupted. If you do want to use those saved games, it is at your own risk.”
So you want to get in on the beta testing? Well, it’s pretty easy. Just go to your Steam library where Pillars of Eternity is located. Click on “Properties” after you right click on the game and then click on the “BETAS” tab. There should be a menu asking for a password. Type in the following password to opt-in:
BETAPASSWORD
For real, the password is “BETAPASSWORD”. Hilarious, right?
Click on the “beta” branch from the drop-down menu and wah-la! You’re in the beta patch testing branch.
If you want to opt-out of beta patch testing branch, just head back into properties and click on the “BETAS” tab and select “None” from the drop-down menu to exit the beta branch. That’s it. It’s that easy.
If you haven’t already picked up a copy of Pillars of Eternity you can do so now by purchasing it from participating digital and retail distributors. Need more info about the game? Check out the official website.
