Far Cry 4 Guide: How to Easily Dominate Outposts

Outposts are everywhere in Far Cry 4. These are the enemy bases of operation and liberating any of them helps you out in the long run. Liberating these positions will grant you a new fast travel point, another shop, new missions, and helps you to stick it to the man. They are also incredibly fun, especially when you succeed.

There are many ways to find success when infiltrating an enemy outpost. But, to make life a bit easier for you, here are some tips to get the job done with the path of least resistance. So sit back, relax, and find out how to make all the bases belong to you.

Tools of the Trade

As you may already know, Far Cry 4 is a first person shooter. Like in most first person shooters the enemies you encounter will most likely have a firearm of some sort or some other death dealing gizmo at their disposal. This is something you need to keep in mind when fixing to invade one of the outposts. You need to have the means to take them out before they take you out.

For the path of least resistance you may want to include some stealthy options. A bow and arrow is a must have because it is almost always a one hit kill and is completely silent (if you don’t miss, that is). A silenced weapon is good to bring along as well. These are harder to come by early on in the game but if you have a Uplay account this can be quickly remedied.

If you’ve acquired enough points throughout any of your Ubisoft games you can purchase the A.J.M. 9 sidearm. If you have the points you can unlock this weapon from the very beginning of the game. Once purchased you can buy a sound suppressor for some easy, silent kills. If you can’t get it just yet, don’t worry. You’ll still be able to take over outposts like a pro.

Other items you may want to bring are throwing knives, molotov cocktails, and bait. These will all prove useful as you approach different enemy outposts. Take a little bit of time to get a feel for how each weapon works so that there are no surprises when you’re ready to head in.

Skills of the Trade

The Knife Throw Takedown allows you to silently kill one enemy then throw his knife to silently kill another.

Weapons are extremely important. They are what allow you to pick off enemies and stand your ground. But skills can prove to be just as integral when taking over outposts. You won’t always have a clean line of sight and will sometimes have to get in there to get your hands dirty. This is when the path of the tiger comes in.

As you kill, complete missions, hunt, and pretty much anything else in the game you will gain experience. Gain enough and you will be rewarded with a skill point. You can use these skill points to add some deadly moves to you arsenal. The ones you should keep an eye out for are Death from Above, Death from Below, Cover Takedown and Knife Throw Takedown.

These are all available relatively early in the game so you should have no problem getting them all before your first outpost liberation. What makes these skills special is the fact that they are all silent and will keep enemies from triggering an alarm as long as you’re quick to get out of sight.

Once your weapons and skills are set, you can begin your approach on the outpost.

Scout the Outpost

Now that you’re ready to take on the military it’s time to do some scouting. What you want to do is find a vantage point, preferably high up, that has a clear view of the outpost you’re targeting. Next take out your camera and begin to examine the enemy base. There a few things you should be looking for.

First thing you want to do is look for the alarms which are essentially just speakers on a pole with a yellow box attached. Depending on the difficulty of the outpost the number of these alarms will change. Easy posts will always have only one, and it is usually right in the middle and clear as day. Harder posts will have 2 or 3, so you’ll want to make sure you locate each one or it won’t matter. When in doubt check your map because it will tell you how many alarms  an outpost has.

Once you locate them it’s time to take them out. All you have to do is shoot the yellow box on the pole and that’s it. Doing so prevents the enemies from calling reinforcements if you happen to get spotted, which can be a big problem. So cutting off contact to the outside world can only help you.

Once done it’s time to check if there are any snipers and wild animals kept in cages. Snipers are always easy to spot since they stand at vantage points. Animal cages aren’t always the easiest to spot but they offer strategic advantages. Once you’re done with that just do a quick scan to locate any other enemies.

Now you’re ready for some action.

Animals are Your Friends

So you’ve scouted the outpost and you saw that there was a caged tiger. For some strange reason Pagan Min’s military think it’s a good idea to keep dangerous beasts on the grounds. Now is your opportunity to teach them a valuable lesson. All it takes is one well placed shot and you can watch the magic unfold.

Finding a caged animal isn’t the only way to get nature to do your work for you. While hunting you will collect bait which can be very handy while infiltrating. Chuck some bait into a base and watch as some predators descend upon the unsuspecting enemies. Watching tigers and elephants gruesomely trample everyone in a base is pretty satisfying.

Just be careful, if they happen to survive their encounter with your enemies they will target you. After all a predator has got to eat.

Kill Everything and Everyone

If you manage to follow all the steps and liberate an outpost undetected there is a trophy/achievement in it for you.

There is a chance that there are no animals around or that the animal didn’t manage to clear out the entire outpost. Now it’s time for you to clear out the stragglers. If you followed all of the above steps you should have very few enemies to deal with after the smoke clears. Since you already took out the alarms this shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

What happens next is entirely up to you. Do you keep the stealthy approach for the extra experience and the undetected completion or do you stand in the clearing and challenge them to a firefight? You’ll still get the no alarm bonus which is better than nothing and then it’s off to the next outpost.
