Injustice: Gods Among Us is a fighting game with card collection and role playing elements thrown in, and it features some of the most popular heroes and villains from the DC universe. This mobile adaptation is a watered down version of the game set to be released on game consoles, but it offers the same fun and excitement of its big brothers. Take the mantle of the best superhuman team in the universe as you beat down on opponents and become the most dominant hero – or villain – in the universe.
Gameplay
Injustice: Gods Among Us is a game where players can battle against known heroes and villains from the DC continuity in three on three action. The objective of the game is to eliminate all members of the team first using a variety of different attacks. Coins can be earned which can be used to purchase cards that will help improve your team’s abilities and powers. The game also allows for synchronized progress from the mobile version to the console version and vice versa.
Having the right set of cards, which may include properly leveled characters and powerful support cards are only half the battle, as players must also be able to properly guide their team to victory using their fighting prowess once the battle commences.
Currency
Tokens are the main currency within the game. Tokens are won during battles, and these are used to spend in the market, for when players would like to buy booster packs or specific types of cards. Most cards carry with them a hefty price, so players must be willing to grind and do battle lots of times in order to be able to collect the necessary funds. Alternately, extra tokens can also be purchased using real life currency.
Cards
Without cards, players cannot do battle. They can acquire bronze, silver, or gold cards of characters, with each variation increasing in strength. There are also support cards that will be able to boost your players’ stats in battle. They will be able to provide the team with benefits such as increased damage, improved defense, faster special attack recharge, and many more.
In some cases, cards can be acquired as rewards when winning battles and these will be automatically added to your collection. Cards can also be evolved, such that two cards of the similar kind can be combined to create an elite card. This is a good way to get rid of excess cards, as well as to improve your roster of fighters.
Battle
Combat within Injustice: Gods Among Us is similar to Tekken Tag or Marvel vs. Capcom where teams can tag in or out. However, battle mechanics have been simplified so that attacks only include light attacks (by tapping on the screen), heavy attacks (by swiping left and right), and triggering super attacks. This last form of attack requires the power gauge at the bottom of the screen to be filled up before it can be triggered.
In addition, players may also block incoming attacks to resist damage. Swapping players will also allow the inactive team members to recuperate from damage, although they will be eliminated if their health has already been depleted completely, and they will be automatically tagged out. The team that is able to eliminate all of the opponent’s fighters is declared the winner.
Each battle will earn players experience points which will cause the specific characters in the team to level up, increasing their attack and health points. This is a good strategy especially if you already have an established team that would like to develop, although it would also be wise to level up a few characters in your roster as well as they might be better when matched up with other fighters. Each character also has specific abilities that can be unlocked once they reach certain levels.
Energy
Energy serves as your stamina within the game. It is required so that players may be able to do battle. This resource regenerates over time, so players might have to wait if their energy bar is depleted in order to be able to fight again. The Energy bar may also be recharged by using tokens, although you’re much better off just waiting for it to be refilled rather than spending precious currency.
Strategy
Aside from having a good set of cards, it is also important to be able to create a good balance of characters within your team. Having players that are good at both long and short range attacks is essential, so that you can swap them whenever the situation calls for it. It would also be wise to swap players out if they took lots of damage so that they could heal, and it would also be good to unleash multiple attacks on a weakened opponent so that they would not be swapped out. Eliminating them early will surely turn the tide in your favor especially with regards to the numbers advantage.
It would be good to focus your efforts in developing just a handful of characters that you would usually bring into the fight, and to have support cards that would complement their skills. Aside from these, do not forget to evolve cards as these are much more powerful than regular ones. Lastly, don’t forget to save up on those tokens as these are valuable resources especially if you want to purchase that all powerful card that will make your team a much more dangerous force to be reckoned with.
