GLOOMY MANOR
==============

A-1 Poltergust 5000
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Go up the walkway and go up the steps to the mansion’s front door. Take a left and look through the window here to see a couple of ghosts in the garage. Back away from the window when done and then return to the front doors. A rat will come out of a hole with a golden key on its tail and will scurry down the steps to escape from Luigi.
Chase after the rat. Go down the stairs and go to the left. You’ll see the rat running around the water fountain. If you try to cut it off, it will just turn around. So, instead, chase it by chasing after its tail. After you catch up to it and get the key, go back to the front doors of the mansion and use the key to enter.
Inside the manor proper, go to the door on the left to reach the garage. Examine the vehicle in here to get the Poltergust 5000. You can use this to suck up coins, gold bars, and cash, as well as a tool to solve environmental puzzles and the like. In the corner you will see a chest covered in a tarp. Use the Poltergust to rip the tarp off and then open the chest to get another key. Exit this room and then go directly across to the door on the opposite side.
Look out the window here to see a ghost dog playing in the backyard. Aim the Poltergust at the ceiling fan in this room and keep blowing at it until the fan revolves enough that the key on the blades falls to the floor. Pick up the key and then return to the entrance room. Go through the door at the north end of the room.
Sprint down this hallway by holding B. On your left, a knight will swing a sword down, so swerve. Then the next knight will try it on the right, so swerve to avoid that one as well. You need to be running at full speed to bypass the two knights at the end of this hall. Go through the door here to get to the foyer.
In the foyer, you’ll be told to find Strobulb, which is used to blind ghosts. Go up the stairs to and then turn your attention to the chandelier. Use the Poltergust to spin the blades at the top of the chandelier to lower it to the ground. Then go back down the stairs and grab the Strobulb. With the Strobulb, approach the locked door here and hold A to blast the panel attached to it. This will unlock the door and allow you to go through.
You can backtrack now and explore more parts of the mansion, but this guide is mainly to just make sure you get through the game from beginning to end. Feel free to break away from the guide and do a bit of exploring on your own if that is what you want, but when you’re ready to continue the story, go through the door mentioned in the previous paragraph and then hop on the toilet.
The toilet will swing around, putting you in a different room with a shower. Rip off the shower curtain using the Poltergust. The ghost will flee. Return to the previous room and then sue the Strobulb to blind the two ghosts in here and suck them up in the Poltergust. Then the spiritual barriers on the doors in here will remove, allowing you to return to the foyer.
Back in the foyer, use the Poltergust and Strobulb to suck up all the ghosts in here. You can suck up multiple ghosts at once if you blind two at a time and then suck them both up simultaneously.

A-2 Gear Up
- – - – - – - – -
Returning to Gloomy Manor, go back to the foyer. If you want a gem and didn’t get it in the previous mission, you can go to the Mudroom (door on the right in the entrance of the mansion) and use the Strobulb to open the locked door, then go around the back and suck the gem out of the tree.
Back at the foyer, a scene will play. Once it is over, you have the option of sort of tackling this mission in any order. There are four red ghosts that have all stolen pieces of the gear needed to run the machine in the foyer. There are two downstairs and two upstairs. As you try to go through the downstairs door, a green ghost will burst out of it with the key and retreat to the entrance.
Return to the entrance and suck up the ghost to get the key back. Then return to the foyer and go through the door on the first floor. From here, you can only get to one of the red ghosts. The other red ghost is in a room that is blocked off by dust and you can’t access it just yet.
The other room in the area can be entered, so go into it. Suck up all the ghosts in this lab, and you will then encounter a red ghost with a gear. Suck him up as well to get the gear. Back in the hallway, notice that there is a piece of the wallpaper sticking out. Yank it off with the Poltergust and then enter this small space between the worlds. At the end of it is a key, so grab it. Return to the foyer and then try to walk up the stairs. The stairs will retract and make Luigi fall down, thanks to the blue ghosts.
These blue ghosts will hide in objects and then throw stuff at you when you are far away. The trick to them is to figure out which object they are hiding in (which you can tell since it will slightly shake sometimes), then running over and shaking them out of their hiding place. Quickly press A to blast them with the Strobulb and then suck them up. There is only one blue ghost in this area for now, so suck him up and then you can go to the upstairs area.
Enter the hall upstairs. Go to the room at the southernmost part of the hall, but be ready to avoid the red spiders that drop from the ceiling. In this room, shoot the phonograph sitting on the table in the center with the Poltergust. Do this long enough and ghosts will start to appear. Suck them all up and then a red ghost will replace them. Suck him up too to get another gear.
Now enter the next room. Pull the string on the wall in here to reveal a hidden bed. Use the bed to enter the next room, which is usually blocked by a spiderweb. In this room, you will find another ghost with a gear. Suck up all the ghosts and get the gear. Pull up the rug on the floor to reveal a secret button and then step on the button to put out the nearby fireplace.
Examine the fireplace to drop into the room on the first floor that is usually blocked by dust. There are two blue ghosts in here. Get one out of its hiding spot and then start sucking him up while simultaneously avoiding the projectiles of the other blue ghost. Once the first blue ghost has been vanquished, turn your attention on the remaining one. Then fight the red ghost and get the final gear.
With all four gears in tow, suck up the dust that is blocking the door. Return to the foyer and then approach the golden part of the mechanism where the gears go. Unfortunately, the gears don’t fit because the ghosts bent them up and E. Gadd needs to fix them.

A-3 Quiet Please!
- – - – - – - – - – - -
This is a quick mission. Return to the foyer. You’ll notice that the suits of armor are no longer there. Use the turning mechanism on the machine, and this will lower the aquarium. Go up the stairs and go through the door. Take a right and go through the next door to be on the upper floor of the library. Avoid the books and make your way to the door on the other side.
You’ll now be in the dining room. Loot it, and then turn your attention to the string hanging down on the far wall. Use the Poltergust to pull the string, which will reveal a dumbwaiter. Get inside and ride it down to the kitchen area. Now you have to fight more green ghosts as well as a new type of green ghost.
This new type of green ghost is equipped with pots and pans that act as its defense. This protects it against the Strobulb. Wait for them to spin around. This will make them get dizzy, and then you are free to use the Strobulb on them and suck them up with the Poltergust. Before leaving the kitchen, check the fridge for a frozen gem. Suck it up with the Poltergust and carry it over to the stove. Use the flames on the stove to melt the ice and collect the gem.
Now go through the door in here to reach the library. These orange Poltergeist ghosts can be tough, but they certainly aren’t impossible. They will fly around and throw books at you, so blast them with the Strobulb and start sucking them up. They have a lot of health, and their buddies will chuck books at you while you’re attempting to capture them, so be ready to dodge books.

A-4 Visual Tricks
- – - – - – - – - – - -
Upon returning to the manor, try to go to the lab immediately. The door will disappear. Leave and try to go upstairs. You’ll then have to fight two blue ghosts and one red ghost. Once they’re defeated, go upstairs for real this time and make your way to the Parlor.
In the Parlor, go the fireplace and drop down into the lab. A green ghost with sunglasses will steal the Dark Light Device when you try to grab it. He will disappear behind the chalkboard. Use the Poltergust to spin him out of the chalkboard, then rip his sunglasses off. This will then allow you to use the Strobulb to blind him and then suck him up like the normal green ghosts.
Fight the rest of the green ghosts with sunglasses that appear and then grab the device. By holding Y, this will reveal illusions. Illusions will appear like shadows most of the time, but they are invisible sometimes. Hold Y to aim the device at the illusions to make them appear. Do it in this room and then suck up the Spirit Balls using the Poltergust. To exit the lab, use the Dark Light Device on the door to make it appear.
Check your map to see that there is a darkened door that doesn’t appear to be there. Make the door appear using the device. Unfortunately, the door is locked. Notice the painting in this hall that has the shape of a key painted on it. You can use the Dark Light Device on paintings to make the objects in the painting appear in “real” life. Right now do it to make the coin appear, and then go through the door.
Go to the end of the yard to see another illusion spot. Use the device on it to make a statue of E. Gadd appear. Use the Poltergust on the fan that is on the back of the statue to get another key. Pick up the key and then go through the door you haven’t been through before to get into the Kitchen.
Defeat all the ghosts in the kitchen. Ride the dumbwaiter to the dining room. You’ll now have to fight a Boo. The Boo is the one that has made all the stuff disappear with the Spirit Balls. Make the objects in the dining room appear again using the Dark Light, then suck up the Spirit Balls.
Now you have to fight the Boo. Use the Dark Light to make the Boo appear and then suck him up with the Poltergust. Repeat this until the Boo is captured.
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
A-5 Sticky Situation
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Use your map to revisit old rooms and suck up all the spider webs and ghosts. You will know that you have collected all the spider webs in the room when the exclamation point disappears, the room gets brighter, and Luigi has himself a little celebration dance. The spider web collecting is all straight-forward until you get to the Master Hall.
In here, examine the painting at the end of the hall by the candles. Grab the silk ball with the Poltergust and drag it to the candles. This will cause all the other spider webs on the ceiling to burn up, and it will give you a ball you can light on fire. Do this and then carry the ball down the hall and burn down the other large spider webs. You can also use it as a weapon to kill the spiders. Doing so will get you coins every time a spider dies using the fire.
In the bedroom, there is also a puzzle element. First mess with the heater to start a fire. Then blow the ceiling fan to light the silk ball hanging from it and keep spinning the fan to light all the other spider webs in the room on fire as well. Now just keep going from room to room and floor to floor sucking up the spider webs. When you head out to the balcony, use the Strobulb to activate the grill and use that fire to burn up the spider webs up here.
Now go to the Master Hall again. Use the string in here to reveal the stairs to the attic. Go up the stairs and then suck up all the spider webs here. There is a rafter that you have to cross. When doing this, I recommend turning the 3D off when doing this because you have to literally tilt the 3DS back and forth, and that can be disorienting with the 3D on. Suck up all the spider webs up here and that should finish up your spiderweb collecting.

Boss – Confront the Source
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Your adventures in the Gloomy Manor aren’t over just yet. E. Gadd, thankfully, puts you right by the elevator. You can open the safe on the wall for coins, and also shake the vase in the corner for more coins as well. Then when you’re ready use the key on the elevator to ride it into the cellar.
Use the Dark Light Device on the coin painting to reveal a bunch of coins. Go down the stairs and collecting all the coins that have collected at the bottom. Go under the stairs and mess with the boxes. There will be coins in a couple of them, but one of them will have a red spider jump it. Open the chest for more goodies, and then when you’re ready go to the silk ball attached to the web at the far end to initiate the first boss fight of the game.
Pull on the silk ball using the Poltergust and as you pull it all the way back, a giant spider will appear. Approach the spider and as soon as it opens its green eyes, blind it with the Strobulb. This will allow you to pull the silk ball back far enough to light it on fire using the statue in the far back part of the room. Release it to light the webs on fire. Be sure to avoid the spiders hanging from the ceiling and the purple goo that the spider shoots at you.
This will cause a ghost to appear. He will charge and then rush you. Avoid his attack then blind him with the Strobulb and try to suck him up. This will cause him to retreat back inside the lifeless spider body. Hug one of the walls to avoid being ran over by the spider as it breaks through the wall.
Aim your Poltergust up to spin the fan. This will cause the ball to catch on fire and then burn up the webs to make another statue fall down. Go confront the spider again. Blind him with the Strobulb. Drag the silk ball back and then make the stabbing statue get the silk ball. Then spin the fan again to get the silk ball attached to the fan blades on fire, which will in turn catch the silk ball connected to the far wall on fire.
Use the same strategy as before when dealing with the ghost that appears. Get to the side to avoid being ran over by the spider and the spider will break open another part of the wall. Grab the ball that appears and retreat all the way to the back of the room. Light it on fire with the original torch statue and then use it to reveal another torch statue near the spider. Grab the silk ball attached to the wall (blind the spider first) and pull it back to once again damage the spider. This time you will be able to successfully suck up the ghost using the Poltergust.

HAUNTED TOWERS
===============
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
B-1 A Job for a Plumber
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
As always, I encourage you to loot the area and explore on your own. This guide is mainly concerned with getting you to the end of the game. So, in this first area, you need to use the Strobulb on the purple plants in here to make them spit out gold and cash, but one of them will also spit out the key you need. Pick up the key and then use it to unlock the front gate.
Now head to the right and go through the door here. After the scene, go all the way to the end of this room and open the treasure chest for another key. Go back to the courtyard area and then go through the door directly opposite of the generator room. Use the key to open the door.
Suck up all the frogs in here and then turn your attention to the northern wall. Use the Dark Light to make the door appear. Go through the door to enter the Greenhouse. Walk around the rows of plants. Shelves will crash to the ground and block your progress here and there, but you can just walk around them. Once you reach the end of the room, a green ghost armed with a shovel will appear.
Wait for it to just get ready to dive at you with the shovel and then flash it with the Strobulb. Then you are free to suck the ghost up like you would normally. Another way to do this is by waiting for the ghost to taunt you. A couple more shovel ghosts will replace that one. Get rid of all of them and then go through the door.
Now you are on the other side of the little gap between the entrance and this area. If you walk under the stairs, you can find a gem. Otherwise, head up the stairs and enter the Plant Nursery. Go to the center of the room, but hug the southern wall as close as possible to avoid being eaten by the plants. If the plants do eat you, mash on the B button to escape.
Use the Poltergust to suck up a spiky ball that is sitting on the table at the rear of the room. Now look at one of the plants and wait for a cursor to appear on their heads. Hold L to fire the ball at them. This will kill the plant. Repeat the process for the other plant and then open the treasure chest they were blocking with their vines to get another key.
Go out of the door in the Plant Nursery that you didn’t enter it through. Don’t step on the rug out here because you’ll fall through a hole in the ground and then have to walk all the way back up here. Go through the door and then avoid the crows on the Skybridge. Wait for a group of them to pass through the holes and then sprint across to reach the door on the other side. Use the key on the door to enter.
Stay as close to the door as soon as you enter this room. There are a bunch of ghosts in here, and running out into the middle of the room is a good way to get yourself killed. If you stay near the entrance, the ghosts will just spawn one at a time as you slowly make your way across the room, giving you a chance to vacuum them up easier. Once the ghosts are defeated, suck up the purple bulb that is growing off the wall. Hold L to inflate it like a balloon and ride it up to the area above and go through the next door.
Now on the roof, defeat the green ghost with the bucket on its head. Wait for him to lift up the bucket and then use the Strobulb on his eyes. Then suck him up and pick up his bucket. Take his bucket to the pipe that is leaking nasty orange stuff. Hold it under the orange stuff to fill the bucket up with it. Take the bucket to the switch that is underneath the water pump machine and place it on top of the switch. Go to the switch further from the machine yourself and use your Strobulb to hit activate all of the buttons simultaneously.
A new type of ghost enemy that is yellow will now appear. These guys are fat and will not move when you start sucking them up. They have a lot of health and will just stay in one place, throwing orange goop at you. Flash him and then start sucking him up while moving around to avoid being hit by the goop. Once he’s been collected, this first (very long) mission is complete for this mansion.
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
B-2 The Pinwheel Gate
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Immediately go back to the Plant Nursery. You will see a water pump near the stairs on the way there, so turn on the water by spinning the valve using the Poltergust. Then in the nursery itself, spin the valve in there to activate the water completely. Now return to the courtyard and attempt to open the gate in the center by spinning the wheel on it. Blue ghosts will take all the spokes and hide.
Go back to the water generator room. There is a door in here powered by the Strobulb machine for its locking mechanism, as you probably noticed earlier. Release the locks by flashing it with the Strobulb and then go through the door. Go through the door to the north. Shake the wardrobe to make the blue ghost retreat again. Spin the ceiling fan to reveal a lift that can be ridden downward. Pick up the bucket of water and then step on the lift to weigh it down enough so that you can ride it to the bottom.
Avoid the plant and defeat the green ghosts in here. Once they’re defeated, examine the bookcase. This will cause the blue ghost to appear. Suck up the blue ghost to get the first piece of the pinwheel. Now backtrack to the hall where you first entered the room with the wardrobe. Go through the other door in here to reach the Tool Shed. Suck up all the ghosts in here, and also shake up the dresser against the wall to get another blue ghost and the second piece of the pinwheel.
Now head out to the Garden area through the door. Go to the far end of the garden and pull the string on the lawnmower to start it up. This will destroy all the obstacles in the area. Go south now and get rid of all the green ghosts and the fat ghost that appears as well. You can do damage to the fat ghost as well as the green ghosts simultaneously if you manage to blind them all simultaneously with the Strobulb.
Once the ghosts have been cleared out, mess with the vase here in the bottom left-hand corner of the area, by the lawnmower’s resting place, to find the blue ghost. Suck up the blue ghost to get the third piece of the pinwheel. Backtrack to the Tool Shed. Examine the fountain on the wall to reveal its actually a secret door that will spin around and lead you to the stairs.
The stairs are moving up in a weird way. Wait for them to be at the bottom then slowly move Luigi forward so that you stay on the stairs as the reach the top of the landing. A green ghost will appear. Suck him up. Go to the far door (the one against the nearest wall is fake. You can tell if a door is fake simply by looking at the mini-map. Fake doors don’t appear on it).
In the Botany Lab, pick up the bucket and then take it under the broken section of pipe. Blast the water pump machine with the Strobulb to fill the bucket with water. Take the water to the sprout in the center of the lab and throw the water on it by pressing X. This will cause a giant vine to grow. Climb the vine to the top to reach the Seedling Laboratory.
Defeat all the ghosts in here. The blue ghost will have the fourth pinwheel piece. Now go to the device in the center of the room and use it. This will activate a mini-game where you shoot the mice that are crawling around in the distance. Hit the one holding the gem to receive the gem. You can aim using the Circle Pad or by using the gyroscope in the 3DS by tilting the system. I recommend switching off 3D when doing this, remember. Once you hit the mouse, it will drop a gem that you can snag. Exit this room through the door that you did not enter through.
Now go up the stairs and go through the next door. Suck up the red ghosts in here and then go mess with the piano. Quickly flash the blue ghost as soon as it appears out of the pipes and suck it up to get the final piece.
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
B-3 Graveyard Shift
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Go to the courtyard and approach the pinwheel. After the scene, suck up the three red ghosts and then the green ghost that appears after them. Next approach the lone pinwheel piece and Luigi will attach the other ones. Now blow the pinwheel using the Poltergust to spin the wheel and open the gate. Approach the wooden door and press X to knock on it, revealing a secret passage into the hollow tree.
Go up the stairs. Notice the torches. The orange flames indicate the staircase that you are supposed to take to the top. At the top of the stairs, try to open the door. Another door will slum shut in front of it and Luigi will not be able to get back down by going down the stairs. Notice the brown silk ball hanging from the ceiling? Suck it up with the Poltergust and Luigi will be able to safely return to the bottom of this area.
Now grab the silk ball with the Poltergust. Light it with the torch. Hold X to keep it pointed upward. Walk to the spider wall at the far end and light it on fire with the flaming silk ball. Go down the stairs and then use the elevator to reach the graveyard. Go to the mausoleum and pull on the plant to rip apart the segmented brick wall.
Use the Dark Light Device on the Toad painting to free E. Gadd’s assistant, Toad! Lead Toad out of the mausoleum. If he sees any enemies on the way, he will freak out and start running around like crazy. Get rid of the enemies and then suck up Toad’s head with the Poltergust and launch him by pressing L to make him chill out. Lead Toad out of the mausoleum and back out into the graveyard.
As you walk down the graveyard path, a group of ghosts known as the Three Sisters appear. There is a fat one and two skinny ones. They spin around you in a circle with their mirrors covering their faces. Go after the smaller ones before the big one. The reason for that is the big one will remain stationary as you try to suck her up, which allows the smaller of the ghosts to hit you easily. When you suck up the smaller ghosts, they freak out and fly around all over the place, dragging Luigi around the graveyard in the process, and making it much more difficult for the other ghosts to hit you and stop you from sucking up their friend.
Each ghost that is sucked up will yield hearts for you to replenish your health. Toad will also dig up a heart here and then if Luigi’s health gets low. Defeat the other two ghosts and once they’re sucked up, allow Toad to chill out again by grabbing him with the Poltergust. Don’t drop him just yet, and instead go to the coffin on the right side of the screen and stand on it with Toad. The weight will make the coffin/elevator lower. Now backtrack all the way through the sewers and to the Gardener’s Lab. Toad will have to be picked up whenever you walk over water, however, so get his fat head sucked up in your Poltergust.
During your last visit to the Gardener’s Lab, you probably noticed the Pixelator machine on the wall. Go back to that machine and activate to return to E. Gadd’s lab.
- – - – - – - – - -
B-4 Pool Party
- – - – - – - – - -
Use L and R to zoom in and out of the photograph that Toad took of the ghostly “pool party” and E. Gadd will elaborate on whatever you zoomed in on. Do this for as long as you like. When you’re done, press B. Then return to the Haunted Towers. The courtyard area now has two giant man-eating plants. Run forward in-between them, and then hug the far wall as you sprint toward the left and go through the door. If they start eating you, mash B to escape, but they will spit you back out at the entrance of the courtyard.
Backtrack all the way to the Plant Nursery. Once here, turn on the water by shooting the red valve in the corner with the Poltergust. Now pick up the wooden bucket in here and fill the bucket with water from the pipe. Use the bucket to water the sprout in the room to reveal another large vine. Climb the vine to reach a creepy room with a playhouse. Look through the lit window on the playhouse to see…yourself? Watch for the jack-in-a-box that shakes, and then go to it to reveal a ghost. Stun him and suck him up. Then suck up the rest of the ghosts that appear in here.
Exit the door opposite the dresser. Move through the Family Room to reach the Solarium. Pull on the string to bring down the stairs. Go up the stairs to reach the West Bedroom. Shoot the ceiling fan with the Poltergust to make the wall retract, revealing three beds and three different blue ghosts. They all go into a different bed. For now, pick any bed and pull off the sheet. Then stun the blue ghost and suck him up. Now watch as the beds rotate, and keep an eye on one of the beds that actually has a blue ghost inside it. Repeat the process. Then watch where the last blue ghost ends up and suck him up as well. Doing this will get you a key.
Use the key on the door in here and then make your way across the bridge. The bridge will take you to a higher level of the conservatory. Use the balloons to make your way up an even higher level. Avoid the spiky plants on the ceiling. Remember that you can move in a three-dimensional space, not just from left to right. Go through the door to reach a different part of the Crow’s Nest area. Use the Dark Light Device on the painting to get a key. Pick up the key and use it to unlock the door in the West Hall (you moved through the West Hall to get to the bridge).
This door will lead you to the bathroom. Notice the red ghost in the mirror right behind you. Turn around and blind him, then suck him up. Suck up the other ghosts that replace him and then lay on the lawn chair in this room to reach the pool. If you recall the picture, there was a frog statue at every corner of the pool, but one is missing. Bring that one back using the Dark Light Device. Unfortunately, pink ghosts steal the key it spits out. Defeat them with the Strobulb/Poltergust combination and go for the key again, only for the Polterpup to steal it.
- – - – - – - – - – - -
B-5 Doggone Key
- – - – - – - – - – - -
This mission is annoying, but it’s very easy at the same time. Simply use the Dark Light Device to find paw prints. Then follow the prints from room to room. Sometimes you’ll have to shake an object to make the dog appear and so that he will run off to the next room. This mission can be annoying if you don’t have the upgraded Dark Light Device, which is the second upgrade gained in the game. You need at least $4,000 to get it.
Anyway, the pup will eventually lead you all the way to the West Bedroom. Use the Poltergust to figure out which bed he is hiding in. Then rip the sheet off using the Poltergust to reveal the puppy. You have to blind him with the Strobulb (I felt bad, too) and then suck him up with the Poltergust. If you take too long after revealing him from the bed, go to the bathroom and shake him out of there again to make him return to the bedroom and hide under a sheet again.
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Boss – Tree Topping
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Open the door with your new key. You’ll now be at the foot of a giant staircase. There are three sets of stairs on each level. Look up the steps to see which stairs are not lit by flames. These are the stairs you need to go on. Memorize as much as you can as you make your way up, but if you go up the wrong flight accidentally, the stairs will turn to slopes, leading you all the way back to the bottom.
A green ghost will appear. Defeat him and then make your way up the stairs again. Luckily, the flames won’t all appear again until you at least surpass the last time you fell down the stairs. At the top of the stairs, pull on the silk to destroy the wall. Move through the hole and then examine the staircase.
Compared to the first boss fight, this fight is incredibly easy. The stairs come to life and hop around. They will sometimes try to smash you. Avoid him by looking at the shadow on the ground. Then pull on the string out his…uh, mouth? to make the ghost appear. Do this two more times for a total of three (the magic number for boss fights!) and you win.

OLD CLOCKWORKS
===============
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
C-1 A Timely Entrance
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
Strobulb the gate to open it. Then go to the entrance to the warehouse. Take note of all the clocks lying around in the sand. Note their time, and then match that time on the giant clock blocking the door. You can move the hands on it by using the Poltergust on the wheel attached to it. In my game, the time I had to make was 3:25.
In the warehouse, pull the pot apart that is sitting on the machine. Then go all the way to the right. Use the Strobulb on the safe to get it open. Grab the golden pot out of there and take it back to the machine where the other pot was. Placing it on the machine will unwrap it a bit, leaving a piece hanging off for you to tug on with the Poltergust to completely unravel it. A key will pop out, so grab the key and use it to unlock the door in this room that is all the way to the right.
Suck up all the ghosts in the Workshop and then continue to the next room. Go down the stairs and examine the huge clock. When E. Gadd is done talking, green ghosts will appear as tornadoes. You can activate the bombs on the ground with the Strobulb to force them out of their tornado form, but this can be problematic because the bombs grow arms and legs and run at you, so you sort of have to trick them into doing it. Otherwise, just wait for them to be done spinning around and then you are free to deal with them like normal. You’ll get a key as your reward for defeating them all.
Use the key to unlock the door in here. In this room, blow up the bomb behind the wall to make the sand start rising. Defeat the ghosts as the sand rises to the very top. At the top, pull on the string to reveal a set of stairs. Try to climb the stairs, and you’ll be attacked by more ghosts. Defeat the green ghosts, and then red ghosts will appear, albeit using the sand as cover. Suck up the sand and then suck up the ghosts. Now go up the stairs and go through the door up here.
Follow the broken bridge. Whenever you reach a segment of missing bridge, use the Dark Light to make it appear. Be sure to suck up the Spirit Balls before you try to walk across it, however. Keep going until you reach the Drafting Office.
Inside the office, you will fight a green ghost. Loot the office completely, and then put your back against the western wall. Move the Circle Pad toward the wall and then aim the Poltergust up at the ceiling fan. As you can see, the ceiling fan will spin, which will cause the wall that you’re pushing up against to retract, and there is more to explore back there. A few pink ghosts will attack at this point, so get rid of them, and then resume the trick from before. Loot the desk to get the Special Compass.

C-2 Underground Expedition
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
Open the gate and then go to the location of the red X on your map that is displayed on the touchscreen. This leads you to a pile of sand with a strange object in the middle. Approach the object to use the Special Compass. In the next room, defeat the green ghosts. Use the Dark Light on the painting in the room for a gem. Pick up the rock dropped by one of the green ghosts and stand on the lift to force it to lower.
Move through the next area, blowing up the wall using the Strobulb-activated bomb and then in the subsequent hall, suck up the pink ghost using the mirror on the crate as a guide. Pull on the string a few times to reveal a secret chamber. Examine the sarcophagus to enter it. Watch which bucket the blue ghost hides while you’re stuck in the sarcophagus. After being released, make the bucket reappear using your Dark Light and then suck the blue ghost out of it.
Now go to the Pit Slide. Ride the slide down and make sure Luigi slides through all the piles of sand, as almost all of them contain gold. Then go through to the Quarry. Go down the stairs and pull the cart on the tracks to the middle of the room so that the sand starts building up. Get rid of the shovel-equipped green ghosts that spawn, and then deal with the pink ghosts. The sand on the ground makes it easier to blind the pink ghosts because you can see the sand they kick up as they move across the sand pile. After the room fills up with sand, go through the door to the east.
Go all the way to the spider web. Turn left, pick up the silk ball, and then backtrack to the torch so that you can light the ball on fire. Then go down the hall and use the flaming silk ball to kill all the spiders and burn down all the spiderwebs blocking the way. In the next room, examine the coffin in the center of the room.
A cut-scene will play, and then you will be introduced to a new enemy type. The green ghosts will dress up like mummies, which protects them from your Poltergust. The trick here is to blind them with the Strobulb. They will then run forward crazily in an attempt to attack you. Move out of the way and trick them into running into a wall or something. They will then fall, and a flap of their mummy bandages will be exposed. Unravel the bandages and then blind the ghost like normal and suck them up.

C-3 Roundhouse Brawl
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
As the name of the mission suggests, you need to head to the Roundhouse. Going there will prove that there is no way from your current position to get across the gap. Retreat to the warehouse. Use the lift here to get to the upper floor. To activate the lift, turn the wheel using the Poltergust.
Approach the rubble. A bomb is nestled in the rubble. Activate it with the Strobulb to blow up the debris and make yourself a path. Now head to the Clockmaker’s Chambers. Set the digital clock to 9:00 and then defeat the ghost that appears to get a gem. Then continue to the Roundhouse, or just above it, I should say. Balance across the beams to get across the gap. When you reach a new beam to your right or left that you can jump to, simply push the Circle Pad in the direction of that beam to leap across safely.
You can now reach the Transportation Hall. This hall has a gimmick in that the floor will constantly move you backward. Don’t worry, though, there is a door to the left that you can get into regardless. Clear this room of ghosts, and then exit through the other door. This will put you a little farther ahead on the track, so that you can access the door across the way.
Suck up the red ghosts in here. Pull the red string on the machine to dump dormant bombs into the lift. This will cause the bridge to lower all the way. If the bridge isn’t lowered, then you haven’t got enough bombs into the lift. Cross the bridge when it’s down and then turn around and activate all the bombs with the Strobulb to blow them up. This will allow you to get across to the door. Go through the door.
Go across the floor into the next room, which is the Kiln Room. Turn off the steam by holding L and aiming at the two valves in the room. Then aim your Poltergust upward and suck up all the steam. Defeat the green ghosts and the Boo that shows up because of this. Then open the door with the Strobulb to reach the next door that will put you even farther out on the track.
Make your way to the key painting. Make the key appear using Dark Light. With the key in tow, return to the Transportation Hall and run down it. There is a door at the very start of it that is locked, in case you didn’t notice. Use the key to get through the door. Now you’ll be able to make your way to the Roundhouse.
You now have to fight a blue Poltergeist ghost. He will turn into a giant tornado in the center of the area and spit bombs at you. Run around in a circle to avoid the bombs. Then when the blue ghost shows himself, quickly blind him and any of the pink ghosts in the area with the Strobulb. Once you capture all the ghosts here, the minute hand is yours.

C-4 Play Catch
- – - – - – - – - -
Another Polterpup segment. This one plays out pretty much exactly like the other one. Follow the footprints to find the dog. You will have to suck up green ghosts on a semi-constant basis during this one.
This one ends in the room with the furnace at the Transportation Hall. You will chase the pup to the middle of the rotating tracks, and then when you approach him, he will retreat to the furnace room. Go in there with him and then flash him and quickly suck him up to gain the hour hand.

C-5 Piece at Last
- – - – - – - – - – - -
Unlike most missions, there actually is a very minimal amount of backtracking here. You will start in a completely new area. Make your way to the lift and ride it down. Then go all the way to the right and look through the hole in the wall. A short scene will play, and then you will be told to find the Toad assistant. Go down the stairs.
Head through until you reach the Maintenance Hub. Go to the far wall and active the button here with the Strobulb. Grab onto the red chain that appears and ride it across the gap. Drop down by pressing B and then blow on the bridge. Walk across to reach the gear in the center. Pull out the other bridge and walk across. Make the door appear using the Dark Light and then go through.
In this room full of gears, walk across them to see a gap where a gear is missing. Use the Dark Light to make the gear reappear, which will make the cogs you already walked by start rotating. Go back to them and stand on them so that you can use them like an elevator. Now you are able to continue until you reach the area with lockers. Suck up the ghosts and then open the lockers for loot and more ghosts. Defeat the rest of the ghosts in here to get a key.
Now return to the Maintenance Hub and unlock the locked door in here using the key you just found. Examine the cuckoo clock to get spun around into the room behind it. Now shoot the gears with the Poltergust to shift the gears leading to the Toad painting. Get the gears centered so that there is a clear path straight to the portrait. Then go to the portrait and make the Toad spawn out of it.
Lead the Toad out of the room. You will have to carry him over the gear because he is afraid of gears for some stupid reason and will just freak out. In the next room, step on the switch on the floor to lower the steel gate. Shoot the Toad onto the conveyor belt and then activate the cuckoo clock to return to the other side. Suck up the spider web at the end of the conveyor belt to get access to the Toad.
Lead Toad to the Maintenance Hub. Pick him up and then step on top of the gear. Shoot him across the gap. Then defeat the ghosts that appear. Use the chain to ride across the gap to reunite with the Toad after the ghosts have been defeated. Continue with Toad to the Gear Chamber where you have to fight a ton of ghosts, including a super-powered version of the pink ghost. Once all the ghosts have been defeated, get Toad again and go up the stairs with him to the elevators. Shoot him into the elevator and then ride it down with him.
Rip the posters off the wall. You can see that the Rotor is hidden there. If you have 3D on, you are better able to see the depth of the hole, otherwise it’s kind of hard to tell that there is even a hole there. Anyway, shoot Toad through the hole and he will grab the rotor. Go down the stairs, pick him back up, and then lead him to the Pixelator machine to end the mission.

Boss – Showtime
- – - – - – - – - – -
Check out different parts of the picture. Then start the mission. The picture was there to show you the time you need to input into the big center clock. Change the time to 7:30 to make the clock move and a door appear behind it. Go through the door and then climb the ladder to reach the boss.
This boss fight can be VERY tough if you aren’t good at the combat in the game. Basically, there are 12 waves. Each wave contains a different enemy or a variant of that enemy. These are all enemies you have been fighting throughout the entire game, so it shouldn’t be impossible by any means, but it does throw quite a bit at you at once, so it can get tough.
Every fourth hour, the boss ghost will appear. It will shoot around the clock in an attempt to attack you. Avoid the attacks and then blind him and rip off the first layer of his ghostly skin. Repeat this two more times to defeat him. Keep in mind that as the fight goes on, the clock hands will heat up and will do damage to you if you touch them, so be careful to hug the outer rim of the clock to avoid being hit by it.
Another thing to keep in mind are the bombs that come into play during the later hours. These bombs are best avoid by running around the entirety of the clock in a circle. This makes them run around like crazy and blow each other up, making it harder for them to damage Luigi.
The 11th hour is the hardest. There will be red ghosts, green ghosts, armed green ghosts, bombs, and little monsters that have to be killed with the Strobulb.

D-1 Cold Case

There’s lots of goodies outside, so gather them up. When you’re ready go to the front porch and suck up all the snow in your way. Go inside. Suck up all the ghosts. Go to the Pixelator machine and examine it. Watch the little cut-scene, and then go to the room he designates on your map.
Pull the valve free. Then examine the stone. Defeat the green ghosts that come out. Pick up the flaming rock and use it to melt all the ice in the room, mainly the ice blocking the door. Go through the door. Walk across the lake. Use the Darklight to reveal a door and then go inside the hut.
Use the Darklight again on the back wall to reveal a hidden painting. Then use your Darklight on it again to bring the Toad out of the painting. Watch the cut-scene. When it’s over, ride the elevator down and then walk into the next room. Use the Toad to weigh down the lift and pick up the key. Then return to the previous room.
Use the key to continue through the locked door and reach the next area. Shoot the Toad across the ice gap and then make your way across. Grab the next key and then make your way outside to the rope bridge. Fix the bridge on your side the balance your way across. Fix it on the other side and then retrieve the Toad so he can get across the bridge as well.
Next you just need to get back to the room with the Pixelator with the Toad. Pull the lever on the Pixelator to complete the mission.

D-2 Hit Rock Bottom
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Go back through the area until you reach the weird gate E. Gadd talked about in the briefing of this mission. Flash it with the Strobulb to turn it on. Watch the scene, then grab the frozen key. Carry it through the gate and use the lantern to thaw it out.
Use the key to reach a room with a large ice slide. Hug the right side of the slide to get a key. At the bottom, mess with the barrel to make a wheel appear. Shoot the wheel with your Poltergust to reveal a secret door. Use the key on the door to continue.
Shut the window here and then suck up the ghosts. Pick up the flaming log and use it to thaw everything out, most importantly the door. Go through the door. You’ll be on a lift. You have to blow on the wheel to make the lift descend. A group of bats will attack about halfway down the shaft, so stop spinning just long enough to take them out with the Strobulb.
At the bottom of the shaft, go into the next room and you’ll see a gap with an ice mirror against the far wall. To get across the gap, walk behind the ice mirror. Then go through the door. Suck up the ghosts and then ride the elevator down. Activate the machine to make a rock move through on the conveyor belt. Return to the room where the conveyor belt ends and light the rock on fire. Use it to melt the ice on the chain. Pull on the chains.
Enter the next room. Shoot the valve with the Poltergust to create a flame. Light the log on fire with the flame and use it to melt the ice block holding the key. Return to the previous room once you have the key. Suck up all the ghosts and unlock the final locked door in this room.
Now examine the crystal in the back. Defeat the upgraded green ghost, and then you will have to take on upgraded versions of the blue and red ghosts as well. Once they’ve all been defeated, the mission is completed.

D-3 Across the Chasm
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
Investigate the fireplace and reach the area above it. Close the window. Then use the Poltergust on the wheel to make the chandelier rise and catch fire. Then reverse the Poltergust on the wheel to make the flaming chandelier crash onto the frozen elevator to melt the ice. Ride the elevator down.
Strobulb to activate the machine and ride it. Approach the ice wall and activate the bombs to start blowing up chunks of the wall. Once all the ice blocks have been destroyed, a bunch of ghosts appear and cover the machine in chains and then retreat throughout the mines. They have to be captured so you can use the machine.
Now it’s just a matter of backtracking throughout the entire mine and collecting the ghosts. The ghosts will be marked on your map. Once they’ve all been collected you can activate the machine.

Boss – Chilly Ride
- – - – - – - – - – - -
For this mission, you have to shoot bombs at this large ice creature and destroy the ice plating around its face. Do this and then shoot a bomb in its mouth once it comes at you. Then you have to Strobulb the ghost and rip off part of his armor.
Repeat the process two more times. It gets harder to break the ice armor because it starts spinning around and it picks up speed with each phase. After all the armor is broken, shoot a bomb into its mouth so that you can then start sucking away the armor on the actual ghost and then eventually catch the ghost.

TREACHEROUS MANSION
====================

E-1 Front Door Key
- – - – - – - – - – - – -
Make your way across the gaps by doing your best to balance. Then the Polterpup will steal the key to the mansion. Follow the paw prints like always until you catch up to the dog. This is also a good way to get used to the different areas of this mansion. Once you finally catch the dog, this mission is completed.

E-2 Double Trouble
- – - – - – - – - – - – -
Upon entering the actual mansion this time, first make your way to the Dark Age Exhibit that will be through the door on the left. Place the book on the bookshelf, defeat the ghosts, and then activate the teleportation gate. Go north to reach the Ice Age Exhibit. Activate the gate in the igloo. Then return to the main hall and this time take the door on the right to reach the Ancient Exhibit.
In here, shoot the eyes on the monument with the Strobulb to drain the sand. Go to the bottom of the room and then shoot the mummies with the Strobulb. This will cause them to charge right after you. Stand in front of the torches to trick them into running into the torches. They will catch on fire and then you can suck up all the green ghosts that were inside them. Activate the gate, then make your way to the Jungle Exhibit next.
Defeat the ghosts in here. Go to the lower level by riding the vine. Grab the log and walk under the waterfall. Activate the teleportation gate and go through while holding the log. Take the log to the Ancient exhibit now using the gate (it is the one with the sand spilling out of it; Jungle Exhibit is the one with the foliage, Ice Age Exhibit is the one with the snow, and the plain one leads to the Dark Age Exhibit). Light it on fire with one of the torches and then take it to the Ice Age Exhibit. Free the frozen Toad painting and then bring the Toad out of the painting. Now go to the Dark Age Exhibit again.
Pick up the bucket. Use the teleportation gates to get to the Jungle Exhibit. Fill the bucket with water by standing under the waterfall. Pour the water on the plant. Pick up the spike ball and then bounce on the flower pad to reach the upper level. Shoot the spike ball at the big man-eating plant to kill it. Revive the Toad from the painting it was guarding.
Now go to the center room that is to the north of the main hall. Shoot the Toads in the cages. The fountain will then disappear. Get rid of the colored ghosts first, and then focus on the Boo. Once the Boo has been defeated, use the Darklight to make the fountain come back.
Shoot the Toads back into the cages. Use the Strobulb to activate the buttons that appear on the fountain. Then go up the stairs with the Toads. Approach the Pixelator and use it to complete the second mission here.

E-3 A Train to Catch
- – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Place the rotor on the device at the foot of the stairs. Spin it so that you can reach the area to your right. Climb the stairs and then go to the study. Use the Darklight on the end table in here to find the missing book to the bookshelf. Place it on the shelf and watch the cut-scene. Then return to the bottom of the stairs.
Spin the stairs so that you can now enter the area to the left. Go to the balcony and look through the window. Then make your way to the Space Exhibit. Pull the chain in here and then activate the teleportation gate that is hanging inside the spaceship.
Now look through the telescope and then exit the telescope. You’ll then have to fight the Poltergeist. Run around in a circle to avoid being hit by the rocks it throws, and then defeat it like any other Poltergeist before. Now make your way to the Nautical Exhibit.
Shut the window and suck all the steam out of the air. Defeat the ghosts and then use the wheel that the red ghost was messing with and make the compass point North. Now pick up the book the Poltergeist took, wherever you left it, and you will be able to use the Nautical teleportation gate to return to the study (since it spun around on the wall and is now pointing to the bookshelf).
Return the book to the bookshelf. In the Train Exhibit, fix the stuff on the room using the Darklight. Examine the train set and watch the resulting cut-scene.

Boss – Ambush Maneuver
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Boss fight!!!
Woohoo!
Okay, so this fight is actually pretty easy. To get it started, make the front of the train reappear using the Darklight. Then you have to avoid the Boo when it tries to attack. It will get tired and then you can pull on the tongue. Aim it so that it hits the drill at the front of the train.
This will cause the giant Boo to split up into smaller Boos. Fling the Boos at the cages on the train. Get in as many as possible. Then repeat the process until you have successfully trapped all the smaller Boos into the cages on the back of the train.

E-5 Paranormal Chaos
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – -
This is a timed mission. Your goal is to defeat all the ghosts before the time runs out. The rooms with ghosts will be marked on your map. Free each room of ghosts as fast as possible. Don’t slow down to collect treasure or anything or else you will obviously lose.

Boss – Stop the Knightmare
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
The ghosts will possess a couple of knight statues. Make them walk onto the carpet. Once they are on the carpet, pull up the carpet with the Poltergust to trip them up. Then try to suck up the ghosts. Repeat this process a second time.
Then you have to deal with a giant knight statue. Make its giant feet each be on a piece of carpet. Run to the first foot and yank on the carpet with the Poltergust to make the knight start to fall. Then run to the other foot and pull up that carpet to make him fall for good. Then you can suck up the ghosts and finish this one.

Boss – A Nightmare to Remember

Avoid the spike balls. Then look at the shadows of the new spike balls that are falling. Trick King Book into being under one of them, which you can gauge based on the shadows, and then quickly turn around and look at him. A spike ball will then fall from the ceiling and land on him. This will allow you to start sucking him up with the Poltergust which will finish the first phase after enough damage has been done.
The second phase of the fight is you running away from Boo and avoiding obstacles. Then the process repeats, but it gets tougher and tougher each time. Just use the same strategy as outlined above, but keep in mind the hazards become more dangerous and the mansion run takes place in the dark.
